I do not own YuGiOh!, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Warrior of Shadows
Hello, and welcome to my first fic on aff! I’ve got others on some other sites but they are on hiatus till I get some more ideas for them.
Just to let you all know I AM A GIRL!!! Although with the eventual yaoiness of this fic you would think that this would be common but many other reviewers have thought that I was a guy.
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh (this will stand for the rest of the fic, seeming as I am way too lazy to put it in every time)
P.S. Does anyone know a good place to get the original (Japanese) version of Yu-Gi-Oh on DVD? All I can find are the 4-Kids version
Chapter 1
The bang of the game shop door awoke Yugi from his daydreams, the sign that another costumer had left. Looking at the clock, the spiky-haired boy walked over and turned the sign to say “CLOSED”. He then quickly cleaned the shop, rearranging any cards that had been misplaced, dusting, and finishing up with a register count.
Happy that the shop was still in the green, he headed out into the hallway that connected the shop to his home, locking it behind him.
He walked past the phone, checking the caller ID for any calls he may have missed, but of course, there weren’t any. There never was. Not since his friends had left for college. They said that they would call him, to let him know that they were still there for him, but they hadn’t. Yugi had thought about going to college too, but somehow he just didn’t really think that it would suit him. Besides, he wasn’t even sure about what he wanted to do with his life at all. In fact, before this his whole life had revolved around dueling, he had never had time to think about what he wanted to do for a career.
The only company he had had since his friends had moved away was his grandpa, the man who had taken him in after his parents had died in a terrible car crash. But a few weeks after he had won his title, his grandpa had gotten sick and died. Now he was all alone.
Then there were all the people that wanted to duel against the King of Games. Sure he’d beaten them all rather easily, but just the fact that all that everyone wanted to do was duel him was annoying. Didn’t they care about him as a person? Is a dueling master all they saw him as anymore?
Yugi dueled his challengers for awhile, but then soon got bored and gave up, Still though, he couldn’t go through a day of his life when some kid would knock on his door and try to get him to duel.
He walked through his living room, turning on the TV as he passed. He used to be able to go for days without watching the TV, but since no one was around anymore, he had gotten to the point where he almost needed it on to function. The news came on showing a group of children playing in a nearby park, advertising an upcoming story about how loneliness could lead to certain mental problem in children.
‘Wonderful, now I’m going to go crazy’ he thought bitterly to himself while walking to the front door.
Since he lived in town, his mailbox was attached to his house instead of being out by the roadside.
Reaching inside, he pulled out a bunch of bills, groaning inwardly as he realized that this would mean staying up late writing checks. As he pulled the envelopes inside the door, a small flash of light caught his eyes.
Lying next to his left shoe was a card, familiar back design facing up. Yugi immediately recognized it as a duel monsters card. He quickly bent down and picked it up, surprised at what the other side looked like.
The name of the card was Warrior of Shadows, an interesting name in itself. But the most particular part of this card was the fact that it didn’t have a picture on it. Well, it did kind of, but it was just a smoky-like suilette of the monster. Another interesting aspect of the card was that it didn’t have any attack or defense points written, they were just absent.
Interested in this new card, Yugi shoved it into his pocket, and continues upstairs to his office to begin paying the current bills.
*****************
Violet eyes teared as they concentrated upon signing the last signature on the last bill. A group of five beer bottles sat strewn about on the desk, along with broken pencils and crumpled up bits of paper.
Yugi had never drank before, but as soon as his friends and grandfather had left, his life had gone into a downward spiral. He was sick of no one caring about him, the only real contact he had with people is when he went to buy groceries, or paid these damn bills. His life was just a boring existence, going through the motions of the day over and over again, never feeling, never caring, he just felt like he was living in an empty shell.
The alcohol began to play upon his emotions again, and again he began to think about how horrible his life was. For the umpteenth time, he opened the drawer to his desk and pulled out a knife.
Layers of dried blood stained the razor-sharp blade, flaking off as the teen pulled it out of its black leather sheath. Yugi pulled up the sleeve of his black turtle-necked shirt to reveal an arm littered with hash marks.
He had tried to end it all multiple times, but every time he did, there seemed to be this invisible hand lying on top of his, its strength pulling the knife away from his flesh. The closest he had ever gotten was the hash marks. At first, he has thought that this was his conscious trying to tell him not to do it, but as he kept trying and trying, he had realized more and more that this truly felt like a person’s hand, except that this person was invisible. He was sick of failing, and he was sick of living.
“This time I’ll do it”, he murmured to himself, dropping his sleeve back down again. “I’ll do it so fast it won’t be able to stop me!”
And with insane laughter, he finished off the last bottle of beer and threw it against the wall, watching as it shattered into a bunch of dark brown pieces.
He grabbed the knife and quickly rolled down the neck of his sweater, pressing the point against the pulsing artery.
“See you soon Grandpa!” He yelled, as he pushed the point in, feeling it cut pierce his skin like butter. A split second later, the invisible hand was back, once again pulling the knife in the opposite direction, trying to save his pathetic existence.
“No! Leave me alone!” Yugi screamed at the hand, taking his right hand that hitting the end of the knife, shuttering as a hot stream of blood runs down his neck. It splattered upon the newly written check, leaving a crimson streak.
He falls off the chair as his body goes into shock, shivering uncontrollably. From the corner of his eye he can see the off-white carpet around him slowly turning scarlet. Yugi closes his eyes, but not before he feels the invisible hands pulling the knife out of his neck.
To be continued. . . .
Well tell me what ya think? Should I continue or not? And to all of those wondering, Yugi had been crowned King of Games without Yami. Please R &R!
