Upon A Dream
Upon A Dream
Author’s Note: I got stuck with this idea, thanks to another muse and his damned attractions. It’s rare for me to do crossovers, especially considering how difficult it is to pull two universes together in a way that would be deemed acceptable by fans of both series. However, this idea seriously would not let me go and I had to give it a shot. While I’m still learning about the YuGiOh universe, Magic Knight Rayearth is the one series I can claim that I know extremely well. So I think I might be able to pull this off in such a way that fans from both series will enjoy. Not that I choice to do it! Otherwise, one of my muses will probably never cooperate with me again, which would be a serious tragedy for me. The pairings here are as follows: Tristan and Duke, Yugi and Ryou, Marik, Yami, and Bakura, Seto and Joey, and Téa and Isis. Malik doesn’t have a partner yet. Odd pairings for me but for the story to work, it really had to be this way. Love and hugs go out to ladywolf_Terri and DracOnyx!
Disclaimer: I do not own YuGiOh or Magic Knight Rayearth. If I did, I’d have certain characters locked in my bedroom and never let them out. Oops, did I say that out loud? LOL!
Chapter One – Premonitions
Blood covered everything, making everything hard to identify. Bodies, furniture, animals, all of them could not be easily made out due to the thick crimson liquid that filled the air with its stench.
A pain-laden gasp made the watcher turn to find a figure kneeling in the once ornate hallway. A slender hand braced the figure against the wall, while another one was clasped over a wound that leaked the life giving substance all over the once pristine white robes. As if knowing he was being watched, the man looked up and sapphire eyes filled the watcher’s existence.
Sapphire eyes. Eyes that someone could easily drown in, never letting anyone go as they held their captive for eternity. Eyes that had been filled with longing, pain, and something else that drew the teenager in ways he couldn’t understand. The slender body shuddered before running his hands through the platinum blond tresses, mussing the usually well groomed hair.
“Malik?”
Lavender eyes looked up to find concern etched in both amethyst and chocolate eyes of his fellow hikaris.
“Are you all right, Malik?”
The Egyptian’s voice was soft as he answered the smallest of the hikaris. In the noise of the cafeteria, it was almost too difficult to pick out. However, they were able to pick out his words amidst the usual cacophony of the voices of their fellow students.
“I haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
“Too stressed out?”
Malik shook his head when he answered the white haired teenager.
“Nightmares. The same one over and over every night. I’m not sleeping more than a couple of hours now.”
Ryou and Yugi shared a look before questioning their friend further about what they had just been told.
“How long has this been going on?”
“Two weeks, I think.”
“Why haven’t you said anything before now?”
Malik shrugged before running a hand through his hair again. He was discomfited by the dreams he’d been plagued with and seriously wanted an answer as to why he was having them. However, despite the discomfort the dreams had brought, the last thing he’d wanted was to burden his friends with his troubles.
“Didn’t think it was important.”
Ryou broke his silence, voicing a thought that had just occurred to him.
“Have you tried talking to Isis about this?”
“No, why?”
“Well, she does know about these types of things, Malik. As her brother, it stands to reason that you might have inherited some portion of the gift that she has.”
Malik looked stunned at Ryou’s comment, not having thought about that idea at all. Obviously, Yugi hadn’t either and the tri-colored haired teen bit his lower lip for a moment before answering the chocolate eyed hikari.
“Maybe we should talk to the yamis about it when we get together this afternoon? They may know what’s going on too.”
Both Malik and Ryou shrugged, knowing that it was a fifty-fifty chance when it came to the three yamis. However, one or all had surprised them before. Yugi’s suggestion had merit, and all three decided to bring it up to them after school.
After classes had ended, the group of friends found themselves over at Ryou’s house for a study session, which also doubled as a cuddling session between the partners. Yugi and Ryou had ended up snuggled together in an easy chair, sharing a book as they reviewed for the test that would be given at the end of the week. Their small sizes allowed for both of them to fit in the chair quite easily. Tristan and Duke were nearly draped over each other, also sharing a text book and attempting to finish their math homework. Meanwhile Yami was in Bakura’s lap with Marik leaning against the thief. The three had finished their homework and was simply enjoying each other’s company, occasionally whispering something the others couldn’t hear. Téa was at a dance rehearsal and would join the study session later, although her lover would not join them.
Once the homework had been finished, the group started discussing their day. At Yugi’s nudging, Malik quietly described his dream and the three yamis shared a long look before Marik responded to his hikari.
“You definitely need to talk to Isis about this one, Malik. I don’t recognize the images you’re describing, and it looks to be a premonition of some sort. Given our track record, I don’t think it’s a good idea to ignore it.”
“Ryou mentioned the same thing. It’s just that we felt it’d be better to talk to you three first before talking to her.”
Yami frowned, biting on his lower lip as he thought about what his blond haired lover’s hikari had shared with them.
“I think it’s a warning, which is a good thing you told us about it. This way, all of us can be prepared for whatever it is that’s coming. And I also think you should start writing these dreams down, Malik, just in case something changes.”
Malik nodded, knowing that the former pharaoh was correct. He knew that Isis did this as well, so that she could look back on them and look for any detail that she might not have noticed before.
Later that night, the blond haired hikari made a call to his sister, who had been checking on a few things in Egypt. She listened quietly as he told her about his dreams, occasionally asking questions that helped her understand the imagery better. Once he had finished, the older sibling sighed.
“I certainly think you’ve inherited some of the talent I have, Malik. That or whatever it is you’re dreaming about really involves you in some way. I’ll do some meditating on this and see what I can come up with. In the meantime, follow Yami’s suggestions and be careful.”
“I will. Are you coming home soon?”
“My flight leaves in two days. I was thinking you and I could go out and spend some time together.”
Malik smiled, glad that his sister was attempting to make some time for him. Between her travels and her soulmate, it was difficult sometimes for the two siblings to spend quality time together. He missed her when she was gone and hoped she would remain in Japan for a while.
“That sounds great, Isis. Call me and let me know when your flight arrives. I’ll be there to pick you up.”
“Okay, Malik. Talk to you soon.”
The days passed quickly, filled to the brim with school, homework, and playful activities the group came up with to pass their free time. Night were filled with blood filled dreams and sapphire eyes that called to the Egyptian in a way he couldn’t understand.
After returning to Japan, Isis was quick to notice her brother’s preoccupation and spoke to his yami about it. Marik had also noted it and like Isis, was helpless to do anything about it save keep him as occupied as possible. He was just as worried and frustrated as she was, and the thought that there was so little they could do to help him annoyed and angered both of them.
Téa, Duke, and Tristan had been the one to come up with idea to spend Saturday at the park, hoping to keep their friend distracted from his troubles. They knew how much Malik loved to spend time outdoors, and the three of them had spent a lot of time putting together a picnic large enough to fill everyone’s appetite as well as plenty of games to keep the group happily distracted for most of the day.
It was during an impromptu game of volleyball when the sun seemed to disappear and dark clouds rolled in. The group of friends froze, staring up at the sky, wondering what had just happened. Despite the fact that rain and thunderstorms were common for their city, the news had insisted that today would be one of those rare good weather days. This simply didn’t make sense, and it confused them.
Bakura stood close to his two lovers, frowning as he caught a sense of very strong magic. Judging from the expressions on Yami’s and Marik’s faces, he knew that they had sensed it as well and were preparing for anything. A hastily barked command from the thief had the group standing behind the three yamis, tensing and waiting for whatever it was that was about to happen.
Two bolts of lightening raced down from the clouds, twisting into a double helix as they struck the ground. Instead of dissipating immediately, the double helix lightening stayed there for a moment before releasing in an explosion of light and sound that knocked the entire group off of their feet.
Malik was the first to regain his senses and, lifting his head up, he noticed a sprawled figure in white laying where the twin lightening bolts had hit. Heart in mouth, he scrambled to his feet and raced to where the person was laying. He didn’t hear the shouts to wait, knowing that he had to get to that person’s side. Somehow, the blond haired Egyptian knew what he would find once he got there.
Nearly tripping over an ornate staff that was laying close to the new arrival, the lavender-eyed hikari knelt beside the still figure, reaching out with trembling hands to flip over the limp body. Another set of hands, this one familiar and welcome, reached out with him and helped him turn the newcomer over.
“Sweet Isis, he’s bleeding badly.”
Seto’s voice answered Marik’s, barely penetrating Malik’s thoughts as he stared down at the face of the man laying in front of him. He knew this face from somewhere. He’d seen it before, and the familiarity was driving him crazy.
“We can’t take him to the hospital. We have no idea who he is. I don’t even think he’s from around here.”
Isis interrupted the CEO, knowing that the man had to have medical treatment. Though her voice was calm, there was a tenseness to her posture as she watched her brother. She knew that he’d recognized the new arrival and hoped that this wasn’t a sign of evil things to come.
“He needs a doctor, Seto.”
“I know he does, Isis. I’m going to call my staff and have my physician meet me at my home. This way there won’t be any questions asked. Considering how he arrived, I think we need to be the ones asking questions. Don’t you think?”
The group agreed with him, knowing that he was right, and Seto yanked his cell phone out of Joey’s backpack, quickly issuing orders to whoever it was he was talking to.
Malik didn’t pay attention to him, not hearing the words that issued from the former high priest’s mouth. He found that he couldn’t. His whole being was focused on the unconscious man.
There was a soft moan that penetrated his consciousness, releasing him somewhat from the quiet emptiness that his mind had locked itself into, and then everything seemed to freeze as the man’s eyes opened, looking up at the teenager.
Sapphire eyes.
Author’s End Note – Okay, that’s done and I’m already anxious to write more for this. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. My muses and I hope that you’ve enjoyed this first chapter, and all of us are waiting impatiently to see what you think about this story of ours. Please review!!!!
