Sisterly Problems

My muses are starting to annoy me. I'm still working on my other story, but they wanted to post up this little deal. Reviews welcome! Plus, I'll need some help on this. I'm not too sure where to go with it.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Flight 224 is arriving. Flight 224 is arriving from England,” came the announcement. A white haired young man wearing a blue striped white tee-shirt under another light blue open shirt sat up upon hearing the announcement. This had been the flight he had long awaited since one of his favorite people had written him a few months ago, asking to visit. His other self would never understand why this young man began prancing around after he read the letter.

::I am so glad I didn’t tell him where I was going this morning. He thinks I’m at Yugi’s just hanging out. But how am I going to haer aer at home with him there?:: the boy thought, beginning to worry.

All his worries vanished when he saw her exit the loading area. They could have been mistaken as twins, but the more younger, more feminine side of the young woman made her slightly different from her brother. Her pale yellow summer dress fit her nicely, and the young man almost wished she wasn’t his sister. Almost.

“Brother!” the young lady exclaimed as she smiled and hugged her near twin.

“Melanie. It’s been too long! Just look at you! You’re beautiful!” he said, hugging back, “What happened to my kid sister?”

“Oh, Ryou, stop it!” Melanie said while blushing.

Ryou smiled warmly and tugged her hands slightly. “Let us go grab your luggage and get something to eat. You must be hungry from your flight. Then maybe you can meet a few of my friends. Would you like that?”

Melanie giggled and hurried after her wonderful brother. “I didn’t bring too much, brother, but I did bring something from Mum. She and grandmother wanted you to have it.”

“It?” he asked curiously. His sister nodded before quickly spotting her bags and grabbing them.

“I could wait until we get home or would you rather have it now?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

“May I have it when we get to the car?” he asked.

“Of course, brother. Oh, I can’t wait to meet your friends. I hope they like me.”

“How could they not?! You are the example of kindness and love.” They reached the car, and Ryou put Melanie’s luggage into the trunk but not before she pulled out a normal sized box. It was covered with bright wrapping paper, and Ryou looked confused.

“Mum and grandmother missed your birthday, so they wanted to wrap your gift in birthday wrapping paper,” she explained.

“They shouldn’t have done that.”

“I know, but they wanted to. Just open it.”

Ryou carefully unwrapped the brightly colored gift and found the box. It was red and didn’t feel too heavy to begin with, and Ryou continued to open it. He glanced at his sister and noticed the bursting quality of just telling him what the gift was. The white haired boy smiled and opened the box, seeing a green tin on the inside.

“Is this what I think it is?” he asked as he set the box aside, proceeding to open the tin.

“You’ll just have to wait and see,” she replied.

Inside were homemade molasses cookies, Ryou’s favorite, and each were in some sort of shape from different cookie cutters. Ryou’s eyes widened as well as a smile and set the tin on the car before hugging his sister. He just couldn’t believe his luck!

“Oh, Melanie! Thank you! I know you helped them bake the cookies. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to bite into them!”

“Then have one, you silly goose,” she giggled as he released her and took a bite. Melanie smiled more at the look of pure bliss on her brother’s face as the cookie all but melted into his mouth.

“These are just as I remember them!” he exclaimed, finishing the cookie.

“I’m glad you like them, Ryou. I’ll tell Mum when I return home.”

“You mean I’ll tell her when I call her as soon as we get home.”

Melanie giggled once more and smiled at her brother. She loved him so much and would do anything for him if he asked. He was her only other sibling, and she cherished the time they had together, even if it wasn’t but a few days.

Ryou went and opened the door for his beloved sister and closed it for her before going to the other side and starting the car. He had picked out the perfect place for them to eat at a week in advance since he wanted Melanie to get a taste of Japanese food. The small restaurant wasn’t cheap, but it wasn’t expensive either, and it had the best food Ryou had ever tasted. It was quaint and had a homey feel to it, which always made Ryou feel safe from everything else. He’d even gotten to know the owners and were friends
with them.

Now that isn’t to say that he didn’t feel safe in his own home, but sometimes, Bakura could get a little violent, and Ryou had the scars to prove it. In fact, Bakura decided to give Ryou a burn mark on Ryou’s hand because Ryou didn’t have Bakura’s laundry pressed. Needless to say, Bakura “pressed” Ryou’s hand but not for very long. The elder gentleman of the restaurant greeted Ryou and Melanie before taking both orders of fried rice and chow mien noodles.

“This is a very nice restaurant, Ryou. You come here often I take it,” Melanie said as she looked around the establishment. “I can’t believe I’tualtually going to taste real Japanese food!”

Ryou chuckled a bit. “I could have ordered sushi if you wanted, but you never really liked seafood.”

She blushed, causing her to look more beautiful to Ryou. “Yes, I never really liked seafood. But that can’t be all they eat either.”

“That is true, Melanie. So, have all the boys started chasing you around, or does Mum still have you at that all girl school?”

“Who wants to know?” she asked a bit coyly.

“I was just wondering, sis,” Ryou said with a smile, placing a hand behind his head in nervousness.

“Well, for your information, I don’t have anyone chasing after me. I was also transferred to another school, a co-ed school.”

“Wow. So, you’ve been doing well?”

Melanie nodded and explained how the co-ed was different than the all girl school she had attended for most of her life. She had mentioned some boys taking a liking to her and that she turned them down. When she was asked why, Melanie wouldn’t give her brother a reason. Ryou thought this was strange but kept the thought to himself.

The food was brought, and both ate in relative silence, neither wanting to lose the moment of just being together. Ryou just couldn’t get over the fact that Melanie had grown into a beautiful woman. But that thought was also plagued by the demonic other half waiting for him at home. He had to figure out a way to keep Bakura inconspicuous over the next week.

“Oh, Ryou. Domino city is so much bigger than our country home in England.
How did you ever find your way around?” Melanie asked as she smiled up to her brother.

“Believe me, sister. It wasn’t easy. I even got lost a few times,” he smiled back.

They were walking through the huge park, trees overshadowing the shaded path. The sun’s rays danced as the leaves blew in the wind. Ryou thought the scenery was so romantic, but he couldn’t think such thoughts around his sister. His thoughts were interrupted as a familiar voice rang through the air. His slight and momentary tension eased as he recognized the voice.

“Hey, Ryou!” Yugi said as he ran up to the near twins.

“Konnichiwa, Yugi. This is my sister, Melanie. She just flew in from England a few hours ago,” Ryou greeted in reply.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Yugi,” the girl greeted, bowing slightly.

“It’s nice to meet you, too, Melanie. I don’t intend to be rude, but you almost look like Ryou’s twin!” Yugi exclaimed.

Melanie smiled softly. “Ryou and I used to get that a lot when we were together. And you weren’t being rude.”

“Thanks, Melanie. Ryou, may I talk to you for a moment?”

Ryou nodded and excused himself, following the smaller duelist. “What is YugiYugi?”

“Ryou, does Bakura know about her?”

The taller of the two fidgeted slightly before answering. “No, he doesn’t. And I’m not sure what to do about it. I can’t avoid the house forever.”

“Let us take care of him for a while. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to your sister.”

“Thank you so much, Yugi. I’ll make it up to you. I promise. Here’s one of my spare keys to my house in case Bakura’s not there. Be careful. He didn’t seem happy this morning.”

“I understand, Ryou.” Yugi took the offered key and said his goodbyes before heading off. Melanie looked up at Ryou with a slight smirk.

“You’re going to have to teach me some japanese, big brother.”

“Don’t you worry, imuto. I will.”

“Imuto?”

“It means ‘little sister.’”

“So what’s ‘big brother?’”

“Nii-sama. Or nii-san. Both mean the same thing.”

“I like ‘nii-sama.’” Melanie smiled and layed her head on her big brother’s chest.
