SUMMARY: Yugi and Joey duel tag team to get into the castle while Kaiba is given a choice to save his brother.
A/N: Okay again this chapter has been published at Yugioh slash before and again I have tinkered with it a little. It's also kind of short.
Chapter 9: Gate Guardian
Faced with no way out of the cave, the gang was forced to rely on Bakura’s ring which had once again activated, he explained about its ability to detect other Millennium items and they figured it was pointing to Pegasus’ Eye. They followed after Bakura until they came to a duel ring and two very strange brothers, the Paradox Brothers who like Panic earlier were some of Pegasus’ eliminators. They would have to duel the brothers if they wanted to go any further, and as there were two of them, two would have to duel them. That two being Yugi and Joey, or rather the spirit that dwelt within Yugi and Joey, because he took over Yugi’s body.
Elsewhere on the island Kaiba was also heading for the castle. His thought was only for his brother. Before his company, before his slave, his brother meant everything to him, and he would do anything to get him back. Pegasus had lured him to the island, as he had found a way to lure his slave to the island. Kaiba knew the man had wanted Yugi at the auction, and if he had to lose him to gain his brother, so be it.
Back at the duel, Yugi and Joey had no idea that they were being watched by Pegasus. The brothers blocked a way out of the ring, a way to make it to freedom. If they lost the duel they would be lost forever. There were two doors leading out, and only the brothers knew which one was which. They would have to guess which one if they won, and to add to all that, one brother always told the truth and the other told nothing but lies. Joey thought he knew the trick, but Yugi showed him it could go either way. They would have to win the duel to have their chance.
Kaiba was closing in on the castle where his brother had faith he would come for him, just like he always had in the past. The poor boy was chained by his legs to the wall of a cell in the dungeon. Kaiba was thinking the same, that he would never give up for his brother he had made a promise to him. Pegasus’ man Kemo intercepted him. He thought he could overpower the younger man, but didn’t count on Kaiba prodigious skills. Kaiba overpowered him and forced him to take him to his brother. Kemo warned him that Pegasus probably already knew he was there.
Yugi and Joey were doing well in their double duel, working together against the brothers. However things changed again and the brothers began to have the advantage with some hidden cards that Yugi sensed as ancient and evil. Still they toyed with them thinking they would beat Yugi and Joey, before bringing it out. The brother had drawn their third card and had the trinity to make a card similar to Exodia, the Gate Guardian. A very strong creature with the power to destroy the other two, they would need all their skills against it. Joey thought they were about to lose when Gate Guardian attacked, but Yugi saved them.
Kaiba was close to his brother when Kemo tried to scare him, Kaiba however, was confident in himself to take on the man again. Kemo set off the alarm; if he were to get to his brother he’d have to run now, which he did. Pegasus well aware of where he was, just as Kemo had said he would. Soon he was having trouble dodging Pegasus’ men as he tried to make his way to where his brother was being kept. But he was able to elude them and hear that one was going to guard his brother all he had to do was follow.
In the duel Yugi and Joey found ways to turn the game back their way, leading the brothers into traps, until they eventually defeated the Gate Guardian and the brothers Paradox. Finally they both had enough star chips to get into the castle. The only other thing there was to do was also easy for Yugi to defeat, once again tricking the brothers and choosing the right door. And they were on their way.
Kaiba finally made his way to his brother’s cell, but was then faced with Pegasus himself. The man knew he had the right bait to capture him with and with the power of the millennium eye, Pegasus took Mokuba’s soul. If Kaiba were to earn it back he’d have to beat Pegasus in a duel. Kaiba was eager to do so, still Pegasus was not finished yet, first Kaiba had to beat Yugi in a duel, hopefully humiliating the boy. It was not right that he had been defeated by his own slave. Slaves were not equal to men like them, and one that could beat them at their own game…
And if Kaiba just happened to lose, then Pegasus was way ahead. He’d have the figure head for Kaiba Corp in his hands, Mokuba. The ingenious technical knowledge of Seto, and the slave, back to the submissive creature he was supposed to be, in Yugi. And he would claim that slave and use him as he was meant to be claimed.
