SUMMARY: Kaiba comes to Duelist Kingdom to rescue his brother, recovering his deck from his slave who he leaves to fight his own duels.
A/N: Yeah it’s been a long time since I’ve touched this, but the writing bug is back with me at long last. This chapter had been released on Yugioh slash, but I tinkered with it since, as I was not happy with it, now I am.
Chapter 8: Call of The Haunted.
Elsewhere on the island Pegasus was having to deal with the Big Five and the fact that Kaiba was no doubt on his way to the island to rescue his brother. Pegasus assured them that he had his own plans for Kaiba and Yugi. He wanted more than just a slave from the young CEO; he wanted his technical knowledge as well. But ownership of Yugi was what he wanted more. And to get that he’d have to get Kaiba.
The gang had finally returned to their camp and while most slept, Yugi and Ryou talked about their items and why the Ring was pointing towards Pegasus’ castle. Yugi had just started to think about the other presence inside when he heard a helicopter arriving. Waking everyone up it landed and out of it got Seto Kaiba. Yugi’s owner.
Yugi watched as they man stepped out of the chopper, his eyes surveyed them all, alighting on his momentarily before flicking away. Yugi was pretty sure Kaiba was not about to give their true relationship away. He confidently approached his Master, not as his slave, but as a duelist. “I haven’t seen you since our duel, Yugi,” he said as he looked down at his slave.
Being called by his real name meant that his master was not about to give him away. If there were consequences to be had later, then that was for later. Yugi smiled and was reminded that he had his Master’s deck, and handed it over. His Master was grateful. But said he would be compensated for his trouble, dismissing Yugi completely. Then he explained that he had come to save his brother from Pegasus. Yugi was surprised, he knew his brother was more important to him, he didn’t care what Yugi was doing on the island.
Still Joey just couldn’t let him go without a fight. He went and pushed Kaiba’s buttons enough that he turned to accept the challenge of a duel, if they used his new system. Joey agreed and they got down to a duel, which Kaiba won easily. He had tested his system because that was the only way he figured he could beat Pegasus. He knew the man’s tactics, having watched him duel and beat Bandit Keith at a tournament. Even though Pegasus had the greater advantage of being the creator of the game, he wanted more than anything to rescue his brother; his brother meant everything to him. And he knew why Yugi was there. So that meant he knew about his meeting up with his grandfather, and that Pegasus had taken him.
Pegasus had taken his company and his brother, chasing after a wayward slave meant nothing. And considering that he had lost to Yugi before, he was not about to lose again. Yugi hoped he would succeed and Kaiba answered him with the same wish, but warned him about their paths crossing, it was more than just a warning. This freedom he had now was exactly that, for now. Yugi had no doubt that once this was all over, his Master would claim him back. And who knew what would happen then. Kaiba headed off for the castle leaving his slave with his friends.
Yugi didn’t let that bother him right now; it was enough to know that his Master was letting him be for now. He was able to sleep without worrying. Of course Joey’s dreams weren’t so pleasant, dreaming of having Kaiba as his master, but with him as a dog, not a human slave. The next morning they awoke to find Mai had left them, and with a new determination, they headed off to continue their duels.
They knew the duelists were thinning out, and they would face stronger opponents. Yugi still wanted to free his grandfather and Joey wanted to money for his sister. Little did they realize that they were being stalked by other duelists, and they knew who Yugi was of course they were being led by a vengeful Bandit Keith, he wanted to avenge his defeat to the duel Kaiba had talked about earlier, he wanted to beat Pegasus because he did not like being treated like a fool.
He chose to go after Joey first though. Joey was convinced that they were being stalked and decided to go off and find them first, unaware of the trap being set for him. And waking up to a scary duel arena was enough to scare him speechless for once. However, once he realized that he had been trapped into a duel, he went along with it, especially when they taunted him and reminded him of the dream with Kaiba.
The others finally realized that Joey had been missing for too long and worried that he had taken on another duel. They split up to try and find him, but got nowhere. Regrouping Tea finally found Joey’s wallet with the picture of his sister inside it. He would never let go of that easily. Then they saw the cave up ahead and went into it. The cave was dressed out as a haunted place with coffins and skulls and such, some of Pegasus’ sick sense of humor. Still trying to find Joey, they found themselves were being scared out of their minds by the things Pegasus had put in the cave for that purpose. Including a giant ball of rock al la “Indiana Jones” which wound up being a balloon and speaker. Maybe Yugi should have begged his Master to take him with him.
Dragging themselves up, they finally discovered Joey and they duel he was forced into against Bonz and his zombie deck. He was getting close to the point of losing when Yugi was able to help him by remembering that he had a card in his deck that could beat Bonz. Getting it, he easily won the duel. However, thinking that their troubles were over, they soon found themselves trapped in the same cave by Bandit Keith and his flunkies. The rock was impossible to move, they’d have to find another way out. Bandit Keith also turned on his flunkies, stealing the star chips they had won so that he could get into Pegasus’ castle.
