Chapter 8: The Accident
(Kaiba Corp: Yami's Office)
Kaiba sits and looks at Yami in awe of what he just said to him.
'Love...Do I love him back or do I just lust after my former rival?'
"I understand if you love Jounouchi-kun. I just thought I had to
tell you that. Over the past 9 year or so...you've been challenging
me to games and I've been getting to know you...the real you. And
then there's our connection to ancient Egypt."
"Come on, let's go and eat." suggests Kaiba.
(Kaiba Manor)
Yugi and Jou are watching the last of the DDM Tourney when Yugi's
cell phone rings.
"Moshi moshi."
"Yugi? Where are you?"
"I'm with Jounouchi-kun."
"I need you to close the shop tonight at 8. I'm have to go to Tokyo
for business."
"Ok. No problem. I'll be there in an hour."
"See you then. Bye."
"Bye."
Yugi hangs up the phone and puts it back on his clip.
"Is there shinghing wrong?"
"Nah. Okaa-san has to go to Tokyo tonight and she needs me to close
the shop."
"Oh. Ok."
~~About 45 minutes later~~
"What time is it?" Yugi asks.
"7:35."
"I need to go now before it gets too dark out."
"I can take you home if you want."
"No thanks. The cool air will help me calm down."
"Ok then. I'll see you later. Call me when you get home."
"I will."
Yugi gets up and walks out the door. He takes a different route home
tha usu usually takes.
'I wonder where Yami is now?'
Yugi stops at the corner and looks both ways. He walks across the
street...
(La Mer Restaurant)
Yami and Kaiba are talking.
'I wonder where Yugi is now?'
"Are you ready to go?" Kaiba asks.
"Yea." Yami says taking a $50 from his wallet and leaving it on the
table.
They stand up, but Yami falls.
"Yami? Are you ok?" Kaiba asks as he extends his hands to help
Yami up.
"I don't know...my legs...they got this sudden pain..." He says as he
takes Kaiba's hand and gets back to his feet.
Yami wipes his pants off.
"Are you sure you're ok?" Kaiba asks.
"Something doesn't feel right all of a sudden."
"You just neo reo relax."
"Yea, maybe I'm so inteabouabout what's been happening
between Yugi and I that it's affecting me physically."
(Kaiba Manor)
Jou is watching the championship game of DDM when his phone
rings. He looks at the caller ID.
'Mrs. Mutou...why is she calling me?'
He picks up the phone.
"Moshi moshi."
"Hello, Katsuya-san...has Yugi left yet?"
"Yea. He left about 30 minutes ago."
"He hasn't made it in yet."
"What?!" Jou says jumping up. "He's not at home yet?! Have you
tried his cell phone?!"
"I did, but all I'm getting is a busy signal."
"Ok, I'm going to go and look for him and I'll call you when I
find him."
"Thank you so much Katsuya-san."
Jou hangs up the phone and puts his shoes on. He runs downstairs.
"Hey Jou, sit. Have a drink with us." Kaiba says.
"I can't. Yugi's mom just called and said that he hasn't made it
home yet."
"How long has he been gone?" Kaiba asks.
"About 30 minutes or so. I know that a walk her here to
Yugi's is no more than 10 or 15." Jou replies. "I'm going to
look for him."
"Wait on us!" Yami says.
Kaiba and Yami jump up and run outside behind Jou. They stop in
the driveway.
"Which way Jou?" Kaiba asks.
"I don't know. He takes 2 different ways home from here. One is
the South Boulevard route. The other goes near Kaiba Corp. It's
a lot of back roads."
'Aibou?? Did something happen to you?! Please tell me that my
bad feeling has nothing to do with you...'
Yami closes his eyes as Jou explains the 2 routes to Kaiba.
'I feel it...our link is weakened...but I know you're hurt...Ra...please
be ok! I...I can see you...'
"He's near Kaiba Corp." Yami yells as he takes off running.
"Wait!" Jou yells, then runs after Yami. Kaiba follows in close
pursuit. "How do you know where he is?!"
"He could be anywhere between here and home." Kaiba yells.
"Trust me. I just know." Yami says as he finds another burst of
energy and speedrtherther ahead of Kaiba and Jou.
They weave and run through many streets until Yami suddenly stops
and drops to his knees. When Kaiba and Jou fianlly catch up, they
see what Yami's looking at...Yugi's motionless...bloody body in the
middle of the street.
