From Rivals to Lovers

Chapter 6

* * *

(That afternoon):

Both were on their way back from Jounouchi's house to collect the rest of his belongings. It had been a quiet ride to and from the house. Kaiba frowned just thinking about that small yet horrible place where the blond had lived for most of his life. The living room smelt of booze, it was unbearable and overwhelming. Bottles were scattered everywhere, some of them were even broken. The furniture was old and worn out, the carpets were stained, the kitchen was never cleaned, most of the dishes, pots and pans were dirty. The brunet shuddered at the image of that horrible house. The only room that was actually large was the master's bedroom, Jounouchi's room was very small, smaller than a walk in closet. There wasn't very much to pack either, considering that the blond teen didn't even own much. The CEO sighed softly and took a quick glance over at the blond teen, who was just staring outside through the car window. He then swiftly faced forward as the car came to a stop at a red light.

"What's with you?" Asked Kaiba sounding a bit concerned yet annoyed. "You've been quiet all day... It's not like you at all..."

"Shut up..." His voice was low and sad. "I'm fine... Quit worrying so much..."

"I don't see why you're so bent out of shape..." His voice was a low growl. "It's not like your father was there. It made our trip a lot quicker by going in, grabbing your belongings, and leaving..."

The red light turned green and the CEO began driving again. The silence filled the air again between the two of them. Jounouchi stood silent not responding anymore to the brunet. It was another four streets before they would reach the mansion. Kaiba took a quick glance at the clock in the car noticing it was nearing 5 o'clock. He decided to change the topic quickly to something else.

"Would you like to grab something to eat before we head back home then...?"

The blond's eyes look at the clock in the car before looking at Kaiba. ". . .Sure. ." He then shifted his gaze back out the window. 'This is going to be so awkward... Going out to grab a bite to eat with Kaiba...'

Instead of continuing straight back to the mansion, Kaiba took a left and continued driving after that. Soon they approached a nice little and quiet restaurant and as soon as the car was parked they immediately got out of the car. Jounouchi never seen this kind of restaurant before, so he was taken a bit back. Then again, he's never been on this side of town before in Domino. The CEO began to head quietly into the building with the blond following quietly behind him. In the background country music was playing but the volume was very low. The younger male also noticed that most of the costumers were elderly people. The scenery was weird to him and not to mention the fact that the diner looked like something right out of a 1960's movie.

"This is place is so weird..." commented Jounouchi.

"Stop complaining..." Kaiba lead them quickly to a table to sit down at. They didn't need no waitress to seat them and the both they sat at was small. So it was a small couch-like seat on each side meant for one person and a table that separated them. "The only thing I like about this place other than it's quiet is the food.."

"What kind of food do they serve here?" He asked sounding a bit curious as his eyes wandered off, catching the sight of a bright neon clock on the wall.

The CEO thought to himself that the question was so dumb. "It's American food.."

"This restaurant doesn't make sense..." The blond frowned some as he made a sulking expression."

The brunet groaned out of annoyance. It was like he was dealing with a child. "I really don't give a rat's ass, mutt.."

Jounouchi growled lowly and slammed a fist down at the table. "Don't call me a dog, Kaiba!"

Kaiba quickly snatched the others hand and gave him a hard cold glare. "Quit acting like a fucking child already!" His voice was low but stern.

Soon a waitress approached them with a pencil and pad in her hand. "My I take your order?"

The CEO released the others hand and looked over to the waitress. "I'll have a chicken ceasar salad.."

The waitress then looked over at the blond teen. "And you?"

Jounouchi pulled his hand away from the brunet's and looked up at the waitress. "I guess I'll have a cheese burger with fries."

The waitress jotted down the two orders and smiled at them. "Your orders will be here shortly." She then walked off to go deliver the orders to the cook.

(Later on that night):

Jounouchi flopped down on his new bed and stared blankly up at the ceiling. The bed felt so wonderful to him. The sheets, blankets, and pillows were amazingly soft to the touch. The bed set was colored in different shades of greens and it matched his curtains too. His carpet was a darker shade of green compared to the curtains and bed set. The vanity drawers and bed frame was made of pure oak to which went well with greens of the bedroom. The walls and ceiling was colored the shade of mint green.

Kaiba probably went through a lot of trouble to get this bedroom set up just the way he liked it. He already had the servants put Jounouchi's clothes away neatly into the vanity drawers. The blond sighed and groaned out of boredom. There was absolutely nothing to do in the house for the young teen. Mokuba wasn't around, Kaiba was probably busy on his laptop in his room. The servants, maids and butlers had the rest of the night off.

'Tch... Maybe I should just go to bed early...' He thought to himself as he went to change out of his clothes and into his pajamas. Once he was done changing his clothes, he climbed into his bed and curled up into blankets and drifted off to sleep.

Kaiba had just finished developing another program for his company on his laptop. He saved the work before shutting the device off. A sigh of relief came from him as he left his desk and headed over to his bed. He was already changed into his night clothes, he was relieved he finished early for once tonight. He laid back in his bed and closed his eyes. Today was a very, very long day for him, he had to deal with blond's bullshit all day. It started with their fight during the morning to their short outburst after leaving the younger teen's old home to another short outburst at the restaurant right down to where they argued as they got home. The brunet couldn't really remember what their last argument was about but it lasted a good whole hour.

During the middle of the night somewhere between 12 or 1 am, Jounouchi woke up and was a bit startled. He felt a cold shiver down his spine as he leaped out of his bed. He slowly walked towards his window and peaked out through the curtains. To his surprise no one was there yet the blond teen swore he felt someone watching him. Or maybe he wasn't use to being in a giant house that was quiet. Even the neighbor that surrounded the Kaiba estate was surprisingly quiet. The young teen was quite sure that the CEO's home was not haunted, if so he would have heard some disturbing sounds by now. Somehow Jounouchi found himself leaving his room and going over to the sleeping brunet's room. It was like a scared child running to his mother's room.

The door slowly opened and the blond teen tip-toed inside and walked over to the others bed. The shadow on the wall that was caused by the moonlight and a tree branch frightened Jounouchi. That made him crawl onto the bed which then woke up Kaiba. The CEO quickly turned on his bed lamp and then quickly glared at the younger male that was on his bed.

"Do you have any idea what time it is, mongrel?!" He snapped as he sat up straight in bed.

"I'm sorry alright!" He snapped back. "I-I just couldn't sleep is all..."

"You're like a child that can't sleep at night who crawls to his mother..."

"I felt like someone was watching me or something..."

"Ugh... Stay here then, I'm going to check out your room..."

Jounouchi stayed put on the others bed as Kaiba got out of it and left his room to investigate the blond's room. He thought to himself that this was stupid, that he should not act like a child and act his age and get over the fear of the dark. That's probably what is was about, being alone in the dark at a new house. The CEO checked under the bed, inside the walk-in closet, and every where else in the room. He checked outside the window as well to be sure. A groan of annoyance slipped out from the brunet. He never had to deal with this sort of thing with Mokuba. And the only time Mokuba did come crawling to him in the middle of the night was if the smaller boy had a nightmare.

Kaiba then left Jounouchi's room and headed back into his room. As he entered his room he found that the blond teen was passed out asleep in his bed. The brunet sighed and then got into bed himself and drifted off to sleep. He didn't have the energy to waste to kick the other out of his room. He figured that he'll let it slide just this once.
