The whole mansion was silent, everyone having split up to rest and try and get over the shock, and perhaps get some sleep. Yugi had cried, wtilltill crying when his Yami had stoically carried him off to bed before coming back and keeping Tristan silent companya haa had talked Kaiba into getting some sleep. She, Ryou and Bakura had sat around for a while, just resting with their knees touching, not trusting to say what they were thinking. On the other end of the couch, Yami broke the silence first.
“I will go sleep beside my Aibou, perhaps I can be of some comfort.”
Tristan nodded.
“I’ll go sleep on Joey’s floor, and look…tell Kaiba, I’ll tell Joey in the morning…I…should be the one to do it.”
Yami nodded.
“Try to get some sleep Tristan, It will be easier for you that way.”
Tristan bowed to the dark spirit.
“I hope you both get some sleep too. This has been a rough last couple of days.”
Yami nodded.
“Aibou is a heavy sleeper, if I can get him to, that is.”
“Well, good luck, and goodnight.” Tristan stated.
Yami nodded and disappeared into the depths of the hall, his footfalls silent. Tristan took the other hall to Joey’s room.

“So.” Tea whispered conspiratorially to Ryou and Bakura. From where she sat, alone, in the living room, there wasn’t a soul stirring.
“Eh?” Bakura eyed her skeptically.
“Mhh?” Ryou asked, sensing something was up immediately.
“I had a thought…”
“Was it painful?” Bakura asked.
“Yami!” Ryou chided.
“Not half as painful as I’m sure it would have been for you.” Tea shot back.
“Hey!” Bakura was getting seriously annoyed.
“Yami.” It was a warning tone from Ryou, so he tried to behave.
“ Look, I know Serenity a little, I know she wants to see her brother, despite what her mother said. It would do Joey good to see her…”
“So what do you want us to do.”
Tea smiled almost unpleasantly at Ryou, and then tilted her head towards his Yami, looking up through her bangs slyly at the tomb raider.
“How good are you at kidnapping?”
~*~
“Good luck.” Tea whispered as she handed the keys to Joey’s motorcycle to Bakura and some gas money to Ryou. “I’ll be waiting up to let you back in.” Tea stated.
“Tea, Bakura will get us killed, and if he doesn’t, Tristan will kill us when he finds out.” Ryou whispered.
//Have some faith in me Hikari, Marik taught me how to drive his motorcycle, I’m sure I can handle Tristan’s//
/That is TOTALLY beside the point, and Tea had to creep into Joey’s room, belly crawl and reach into his jacket pocket to get his keys, do you know how PISSED he’s going to be?/
//Absolutely.//
/This is insanity, how will we fit three on a bike./
//you can just hang out in your soul room…//
/Oh, absolutely not!/
//Aibou, don’t be difficult.//
/I’ll be difficult if I damn well want to be!/ Ryou barked mentally
//we will discuss it on the way, we have to make it through three cities under cover of darkness and get to Joey’s mother’s house well before dawn and…//
/Alright, alright!/
“Guys, quit chatting with each other and GO, if Tristan wakes up I can only stall for so long. Go! GO!” Tea hissed to a glazed looking Ryou.
“Sheesh, alright Tea, were going.” Ryou hissed as he bolted out the back door followed by his Yami at a slower lope.
“NO CARNAGE.” Tea stage whispered to him as he went by.
“For you my dear.” Bakura faked an insane look rather unpleasantly well. “Anything.”
~*~
Tristan woke, thinking he heard someone fire up his motorcycle. He listened again, and all was quiet.
“Must have dreamed it.” He murmured.
It was an unsettling thought though, someone stealing his motore. He. He sat up slowly, and then crawled to the edge of Joey’s bed and propped himself up on his arm’s on the mattress to watch his love sleep. He thanked whatever god or goddess that heard him that Joey was still with him. He still got a rush just watching him breathe, just knowing he was alive and warm, that he could touch him and hold him and feel his heart beating. It made him think back to Ryou and Bakura. Those two had definitely changed. And Bakura, being kind, and…he remembered Ryou telling him the story one late afternoon, how he and his Yami had had a huge fight, and how Ryou had been able eal eal him using the ring, heal his mind and his body. Tristan was wishing for that power as he found himself still awake and the sun cresting the horizon. He didn’t remember sleeping, he must have a little. But mostly he had been up awake all night, praying for wisdom and strength. Not just for himself, but for Joey.
He didn’t move for another solid hour, tracking the passing of time by the ray of sunlight that was gradually creeping towards Joey’s face. The ray finally spilled over Joey’s eyelids, highlighting his hair a beautiful gold and his pale skin, despite its bruises, a honeyed tan. Joey whimpered and tried to dodge away, only to wake himself up by moving.
He groaned as he rolled slowly onto his side, away from the sunlight, and towards Tristan. It took his honey brown eyes a moment to un-blur from sleep and soreness.
“Hey Tris.” His voice was gravely with sleep and pain.
“Hey, Jo.”
“What’s the matter man, you look like you swallowed a handful of earthworms?”
Tristan shook his head ruefully. Foiled again. Damn Joey’s powers of observation they never worked when they needed to and did when they shouldn’t.
“I need to talk you love.”
“Oh.” Joey whispered. “What’s happened? My dad, he didn’t…hurt anyone else did he? He’s not gonna try and come see me or anything, is he?” Joey looked panicky.
“No Joey, it’s not like that.”
“Is it really bad?” Joey asked, his eyes filled with terrible dread, his pulse fluttering in his throat like a trapped hummingbird.
“Jo, its real bad news. Will you let me hold you?”
“You better!” Joey whispered.
Tristan acquiesced, sliding onto the bed and resting against the headboard, pulled a wincing Joey upright and into his lap. The blonde snuggled into the hollow of Tristan’s shoulder and wound his fingers into the black t-shirt Tristan had on.
“Ok.” Joey took a shuddering breath.
“I’m ready.”
~*~
They all congregated around the mansions front bay window.
“What the hell is that blonde girl doing on Tristan’s bike and riding behind Bakura?” Kaiba growled. “And what does she think she’s doing!” He indicated towards Tea.
“ I have no idea.” Yami stated watching with mild fascination as of all people Tea, was at the control gate and letting the motorcycle in.
“And more importantly, what is Bakura doing with Tristan’s bike?!” Kaiba cried.
“Tristan is going to flip!” Yugi whispered.
“You can say that again, and so is Joey.” Yami stated, his sharp ruby eyes narrowed onto the girl as she dismounted the bike, holding on to Bakura’s arm as she got off. “Because unless my eyes deceive me, that is Serenity Wheeler.”
Two startled “WHAT?!’s” Broke the silence.
~*~
Joey was unable to comprehend it.
“I’m sorry Jo, so sorry love.” Tristan ran his hands through the tangled blonde hair, trying to sooth the shock a little. He could feel Joey’s tears dampening his shirt; feel the convulsive clasping and unclasping of his fingers against his biceps.
“Jo?”
“I…I must be some kind of monster.” Joey breathed.
“No Jo, why would you ever think that?!”
“Because I’m glad he’s dead. You would think I would feel something, you know, sad…but I just feel relieved. If I’m sad about anything, it’s my sis. I wish I could see her, I know she’s just trying to avoid moms wrath…I’ve always known mom hated me. She knew how dad was and she sent me to live with him anyways. I can forgive her, I think. But it doesn’t make it hurt any less.”
“I know Serenity still believes in you and loves you.”
“Yeah, but now, mom will never let me see her again…and I…I…Oh hell.” Joey sobbed.
“Just take it easy Jo, just, cry it out. I’m here. We’ll find away for you to see her again. You just wait and see.” Tristan reassured.
“Really?”
“Yeah, just rest. We will find a way.
~*~
Ryou popped out of the ring and reeled for a moment, feeling disoriented.
“Aibou?” Bakura reached out a hand to steady his Aibou.
“I’m fine.” Ryou grouched, it took a ton of energy to come and go from the ring when he had to force his physical body into it. “The way you drive makes me nauseated. That’s all.”
“Then don’t watch Hikari.”
“How could I not? It was morbid fascination. I wanted to know what was going to hit me before I died!”
“Oh bull Ryou. I would SO not get you killed.”
“Uhm…excuse me?” Serenity’s voice was a little hoarse, but the way Ryou figured it, it was probably from screaming in terror. The last three hours on the bike had only been pleasant for Bakura.
“I’m sort of cold, can we go inside now?”
Ryou sighed and shrugged out of his shirt jacket, handing it to Serenity.
“Thanks.” She said as she struggled into the still warm fabric.
He nodded to her, and then took her other arm.
She marched up to the front of the Kaiba mansion with Yami on one arm and Ryou on the other, and had to fight a thought about being a very lucky lady.
None other than Seto Kaiba, ruler of all thinks Kaiba Corp. met her and her escorts at the door.
“Bakura, what the HELL did you do?”
“Excuse me, Mr. Kaiba, is there a chance that I could see my brother?”
Kaiba stopped breathing. He had nearly forgotten Serenity in his haste to yell at Bakura.
“Hello Serenity.” Tea stated as she at last caught up with the trio.
“This is my doing Kaiba, so if you are going to shout at anyone, it should be me.” Tea stated calmly. “And are you going to invite her in or not?” Tea asked.
“Oes, es, of course.” Kaiba stepped back looking disoriented. “Please come in.” He stated pleasantly.
“And Tea, you have ALLOT of explaining to do.”
“Uhm, duh?!” Tea snorted, giving Kaiba the evil eye.
~*~
Tristan stared as the door opened.
“Serenity?!” He and Joey both yelped at once. It was like gir girl had just waltzed out of their conversation and into the room.
Tristan detangled himself, looking stunned, and standing quickly, bowed swiftly to Serenity and left the room to give the two siblings some privacy.
He shut the door behind him, and then leaned on it, unable to stop the big dopey grin slowly crossing his face. He had to find out who had managed this, because they were about to be kissed for foresight.
~*~
Serenity watched Tristan leave with a mild amount of interest, before she turned back to look at her brother, still staring at her as if she had fallen from heaven.
“Sis?”
“Oh Joey, just look at you, Jesus Christ in a coffee cup!”
“Yeah, I know not pretty huh?”
Serenity sat quietly next to brother, and pulled the sheets back from his chest, looking quietly over the bandages there.
“Oh Joey.” Serenity whispered. “I’m so sorry…about everything.”
“Not your fault!” Joey reassured as he offered her both arms.
“Just hug me really carefu k? k? Lotsa stuff’s broken.”
“Joey…I’m so glad dad can’t hurt you anymore. And…I wanted to ask you…do you want to go to the funeral, I’ll go with you, if you like…”
The two siblings shared a moment of silence in which Serenity gently tangled her fingers with Joey’s, being careful with the broken wrist. The corner of Serenity’s mouth began to turn up in a slow smile. So did Joey’s. Serenity started to chuckle. As a result, so did Joey. Pretty soon the room echoed with their laughter.
“We have to…” Serenity sobbed between bouts of laughter. “Be the most twisted kids ever to exist.”
“Ha…h’yah, but, its alright. I’ve still got you, and that’s what counts. You and Tristan.”
Serenity’s smile widened even more. “You and Tristan? Taylor?” Joey nodded. “Oh that’s so great Joey. I’m so glad for you, I really like Tristan.” And with that, she finally fell into her brother’s arms, totally exhausted; she had been up all night. She snuggled in tightly, stroking Joey’s hair affectionately.
“No mater what mom says Joey, you and I are always going to be brother and sister. And she nor heaven or hell are going to stop me from being here for you. You know I am here for you no matter what, right?!”
“I do now…and hey… Serenity, how come you smell like exhaust, and how did you get here, not that I’m complaining?”
“Well, you see, that’s kind of a long story…”
~*~
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY MOTORCYCLE! LOOK AT THAT SCRATCH!” Tristan howled.
“Yami passed a garbage truck on the right and hit a trash can…I’m sure that blue stuff will just rub off.” Ryou addressed his toes.
“DO YOU have any clue what could have happened to me if your Yami, who has NO LICENSE, might I add, WERE TO HAVE WRECKED MY BIKE, or gotten you and Serenity killed?! Ahhh!” Tristan screamed at the heavens.
“For what its worth I’m sorry.” Ryou murmured.
~*~
“Is he STILL raving?” Tea asked.
Bakura nodded, picking disinterestedly at a loose string on his jacket sleeve.
“Still bellowing at my Hikari.”
“Really?” Tea leaned out the window to see Ryou cringing with ever shouted fro from Tristan or dodging a particularly wild arm gesture.
“Yep.”
“Yep.” Tea confirmed.
