Chapter 6
Flashback.
Ryou was more excited than he had ever been in his entire life! Somehow, he had convinced his irritable yami to come with him to *the* festival! Granted, he probably shouldn’t have been so happy now that the thief had his own body…But, he could actually escape if he wanted to now, instead of warring with his mind! A confusing task that… Having Bakura on the outside gave him hope! He even went so far as to think he had a fresh start with the tomb robber, and he would start tonight! Ryou loved going to the Blossom Festival, and this year, he could share it with Bakura!
Ryou shyly walked up to his obviously miffed yami.
“Bakura?” Ryou shyly asked.
“What, you little shit?!” Bakura barked. He hated crowds! The little hikari knew that! Ever since he’d gotten his own body, the clingy bastard was acting more cuddly than usual. Why hadn’t his torturing worked yet? He’d had years of control over the boy’s mind, and yet still the little light kept shining… How did Ryou convince him to come? Speaking of the annoying brat, the little hikari was currently at another booth ignoring his guest. Bakura fumed as he waited for the runt to return, and shot him a death glare as the boy bowed for forgivness… Ryou squeaked when he saw Bakura’s face and looked down at his feet.
“What took you so long?!” Bakura barked.
“I-I was making a wish charm…but…”
“A wish charm? What the fuck is that?!”
“Well,” Ryou blushed. “You…you…uhm…”
“You’re wasting my fucking time,” Bakura drawled dangerously, tapping his fingers against his forearm.
“Ah, sorry! I mean, it’s where you write your most cherished wish on a slip of paper and tie it to a tree and hope the gods will grant it,” Ryou blurted out.
Bakura snorted at that. “The gods don’t listen. What a waste of paper…”
“Erm…I was wondering if um…you could…”
“What,” the thief barked!
“I-I’m sorry! I just wanted to know of you’d tie this to the tree for me…I’m not tall enough to get to the higher branches.”
Bakura snickered… “Of course you’re too short, you little fuck! You’re an insignificant speck of filth!”
Ryou looked down at his feet again, trying to hide the blush of shame.
“But just this once, I’ll take pity on you,” Bakura purred. “After all, I’m not completely evil.”
“Ah, Th-thank you Bakura!” Ryou stammered, smiling slightly. Bakura rolled his eyes and briskly walked towards the tree, the little hikari in tow.
As he headed towards the tree, he haphazardly looked down at the small charm in his hand. This was a stupid custom! Writing wishes on some scrap of dead tree, then sticking it to a living tree in hopes of getting some pathetic dream fulfilled. It was damn sad…and yet it was sweetly tempting to see just what kind of wish Ryou thought a tree could possibly grant. The thief wickedly read the flowy script that was Ryou’s wish.
‘I want to be loved.’
Bakura couldn’t help himself from sneering, the sneer quickly turning into an evil grin... It was perfect! He’d HAVE to take advantage of this, it was too sweet a chance! Maybe then Ryou would stop being so…light-ish and beau-, er, annoying!
“Hey, Ryou!” the Thief King called over his shoulder, instantly in a better mood.
“Yes?”
“The night’s still young, and we just got here,” he grinned happily. “Why don’t we take in the festival first?”
Ryou’s face lit up with excitement, “O-Okay!”
They had a wonderful time at the festival, or so Ryou thought. Bakura poured on the affection, making the hikari deliriously happy. They spent so much time together, playing games, sampling food, and talking amicably; Ryou was convinced that Bakura might actually be able to change, and maybe Ryou himself could be the catalyst! Near the end of the evening, Ryou gently reminded Bakura that they still needed to place his wish on the tree…Bakura chuckled lightly as he lead his hikari by the hand to said tree. Ryou felt his heart skip a beat as his hand was taken by his yami. As they approached, Bakura began to slow and tightened his grip on Ryou’s hand.
The young man felt his face flush with a combination embarrassment and excitement! His heart raced seven fold as Bakura sat upon the ground beneath the tree and gently coaxed Ryou down with him, pulling the smaller man comfortably into his arms. The light sighed contentedly, wondering if someone had heard his wish…This was something he’d always wanted. Something he’d dreamed about…Bakura showing affection and caring for him in return. Maybe all his suffering had been worth it, and maybe things would be better from now on!
Ryou felt Bakura nuzzle his neck gently, and he could do nothing but melt into the caress, his breath hitching in excitement! The Thief King gently pressed his lips against the soft skin of Ryou’s neck, mischieviously hiding the malicious grin.
Ryou let out a sigh of happiness as he felt the tomb robber’s lips upon his neck. His whole body tingled with sensations before unknown or unwelcome, but now, he embraced! His heart raced, his face flushed, and his body was on fire! His heart felt lighter than it had ever been! He’d never been this happy in his entire life!! Here he was, at a romantic Blossom festival, cuddling with the one person he cared most about in the world, and said person was showing signs of acceptance, finally!! He just couldn’t believe it was real! And now…now it was the perfect time!!
“Bakura…” Ryou murmured, his voice thick with the combination of excitement and emotional elation. “I-”
“Shh, hikari. Just…just enjoy the moment,” Bakura coaxed, his own body betraying him. He did NOT feel any attraction to the pathetic weak creature in his arms…his body was just reacting to a warm body! Yeah! But his raging hormones were beside the point, he still had scrumptious work to complete!
Ryou obeyed, relaxing back into Bakura’s arms, his head falling once again against his yami’s chest. Bakura gently entwined his fingers in Ryou’s hair as lowered his lips to the shell of Ryou’s ear, brushing softly. The hikari involuntarily shuddered in pleasure, awaiting the sweet nothings he so badly wanted from his dark.
“Do you actually believe in this bullshit?,” Bakura cooed softly, placing a kiss below his light‘s ear. Ryou felt his smile melt away, the blood draining from his face slowly.
“How the hell do you think you deserve to be loved?,” Bakura whispered gently, his voice a mockery of caring, yet his soft nuzzling continued. Ryou felt his whole body stiffen as his heart went painfully ice cold.
“You’re weak…” Bakura continued, his once gentle fingers gripping harshly into Ryou’s hair, but his voice and caresses were still just as tender. The hikari bit back a yelp of pain. “You’re pathetic… Everyone who gets close to you leaves one way or another. The only reason I’m still here is because I have to keep your lame ass alive to keep myself alive. Other than that, I’d fucking kill you to put you out of your misery. You don’t deserve love, you selfish little shit!”
“Ba-Bakura,” Ryou gasped, tears escaping his eyes, his whole body a lead weight. Bakura gently placed a finger against the light’s lips and he sweetly kissed the younger one’s cheek.
“I fucking hate your guts,” he purred into Ryou’s ear.
The words took to the boy like a physical blow, making him nearly wretch from the pain!
Hadn’t they just had a lovely time together? Ha-hadn’t they?
Hate?!
Never…Never had Bakura said he hated his light!
Never!
Ryou felt his heart being crushed!! All hope he had rushed out of his chest in one choking sob of disbelief!
Bakura hated him!?
Terror, shame, and betrayal flooded his mind as his heart screamed in agony! He had to get away, he had to run! He struggled to get out of the thief’s grasp and found it surprisingly easy. Bakura just let him go, laughing manically at the tear stained face and stumbling run.
Ryou ran home, weeping hysterically and trying to convince himself that it was not real…
Unfortunately, no matter how hard he prayed or hoped or cried about it, it didn’t change the truth.
After that incident, Ryou’s will finally began to bend under his yami’s skilled manipulations. The hikari tried again and again to win Bakura over, but everything was flung rudely back in his face. His fragile will began to crack. The insults became worse, then Bakura began to beat the boy, and finally, the torturing began… Ryou could never be the same again. The boy was just short of complete destruction by the time he realized his plight.
He had cared…He had loved…
“I fucking hate your guts.”
Those brash and violent words were the catalyst, Bakura was the one to wield them, and Ryou finally began to fade…. After all, what was there to shine for?
