Taking care of the wounded
Jou woke up, seeing figures conversing above him. He rolled away towards the wall, covering his ears not caring to here what they were saying. They mumbled on, but the talking slowed, and eventually stopped. Soon someone sat down on the bed near him, running their fingers through his hair. Jou grabbed the hand to stop it from moving, holding it there near his ear. He was still very sleepy, but he rolled over to see who was sitting there with him. Jou looked up to see Kaiba studying his face, Jou quickly let go of his hand and went to sit up.
“Hold on,” Kaiba said, pushing Jou back to the bed. Jou silently questioned Kaiba, but only got the most beautiful face from Kaiba he’d ever seen. “He looked at your ankle and said you shouldn’t move it or put pressure on it for a while. You also need to rest as long as you feel necessary.” Jou moved his hand up to check Kaiba’s forehead, “Are you sure you aren’t the one that’s sick?” He laughed out. Jou smiled, mumbling a thanks as he rolled away again.
As Jou drifted off to sleep once more, he thought about the face he’d just seen from Kaiba. It was one he’d almost seen before, of course it was directed at Mokuba at that time. That caring, ‘I hope you’re all right face’ almost like the moment the two had gotten their souls back after Pegasus
defeat. Jou was elated with the fact that the same Kaiba who called him a ‘mutt’, would focus a look like that towards him. A look of caring and desire to fix any problem in the world.
Kaiba began running his hand through Jou’s hair again watching the boy sleep. His door opened as Mokuba walked in, and over to his brother.
“We didn’t talk like you promised about the other night.” Mokuba informed his brother. It had been a week, which was nothing to a Kaiba, but it was obviously important enough to Mokuba. Kaiba looked down at Jou, before responding to the younger Kaiba. “Mokuba, it was a night of recklessness, neither of us could even remember in the morning. What else is there to really talk about?” Kaiba questioned, attempting to keep his voice down, leaving Jou sleeping peacefully. There was a touch of hurt in his voice, especially as he mentioned that neither could even remember.
“Well for the main thing, the fact that you actually have feelings for him!” Mokuba said, annoyed at his older brother for ignoring his own feelings.
“It didn’t mean anything to the puppy,” Kaiba answered, slipping up in his nicknames for Jou. It was a caring nickname similar to the one he called Jou most every day in High School, but it was one that was obviously said to himself just as often.
“Well it meant something to you,” Mokuba stated regardless of how obvious it seemed, because sometimes that’s what Kaiba needed. “Please, just try to see how he feels, it’s almost better to be told you have no chance, than to sit here and never know what could be.” He pleaded, wanting to see his brother happy.
Kaiba looked down at Jou once more, and sighed. He knew Mokuba was right, but he could never bring himself to ask when he had the opportunity. “I’ll ask him before he leaves, I promise.” He said sincerely as he went to hug Mokuba.
“This one better mean promise for real…” Mokuba glared at Kaiba, to remind him of the last promise made. “It will be,” Kaiba said as he laughed a little.
The Kaiba brothers hugged, before Mokuba was shuffled off to bed. Kaiba came back, getting ready for bed. He took his time, thinking over what his options were. When he was done, he softly nudged Jou to one side of the bed before sliding under the sheets with him.
Jou tossed and turned a little before completely falling back asleep. Kaiba smiled, finding out how cute the other boy was. Once they had both settled down a bit, Kaiba softly grabbed Jou, and pulled him into his arms. This moment was worth any pain or rejection when it came, so Kaiba took it while it lasted.
-----~~~~@@@~~~~-----
When Jou awoke in the morning he found a similar situation to the last time he had been in Kaiba’s bedroom. Neither of the them were naked this time at least, but Kaiba had a strong hold on his waist and grabbed harder anytime Jou would move.
Jou knew that there was nothing he could do about it this time, seeing as his foot was so bandaged up he wasn’t sure he could even walk on it. Kaiba soon drifted to consciousness, seeing Jou stare up at him.
“You like to hold on to me…” Jou joked intrigued by what Kaiba might say.
Kaiba worked methodically to find a somewhat true answer, never skipping a beat, “I got used to it when Mokuba would sleep with me when we were younger.” Jou looked at his suspiciously, but knew that it was probably true so there was no point in questioning it.
The two stared at each other for a bit, tension mixed with curiosity filled their eyes wondering what to think of the situation, until Jou’s stomach decided to growl. Jou would normally have felt embarrassed, but realization of the fact that he hadn’t eaten in about a day made him know there was nothing he could do, but eat.
“I guess the mutt needs to eat sometimes…” Kaiba said as he let go of Jou to get out of the bed.
“I thought we agreed to stop with the dog jokes.” Jou retorted as he attempted to get up as well. Jou was pushed back to the bed by Kaiba as he had the night before. “We may have, but it’s still true,” Kaiba said smirking, he lowered the smirk so a softer smile which for a second dazed Jou, “You’re going to have to stay here, or be carried around. And since we all know how much you hate to be carried princess style, I assume you’d rather stay here.”
Jou blushed slightly remembering the fit he had last time, refusing Kaiba to carry him down the stairs. Jou just sighed looking up at Kaiba who knew he was right. Kaiba disappeared from the room while Jou looked around. It wasn’t like Kaiba had moved anything since the last time he was here, but Jou couldn’t help but be entranced by some of the rooms items.
The room was a bit dull, very mansion like… but something was special about it that made Jou know that it was Kaiba’s. The obvious themes of blue and white popped up all over the room, which made Jou laugh lightly with the other’s obsession with the Blue eyes white dragon. There was one thing though that didn’t seem to fit, a small bookshelf that held unused bookends where a Blue eyes was paired with a Red eyes. Jou attempted to look more carefully at them noticing that while as a pair, instead of being used to their job, the two dragons tails locked together.
Jou was so focused, that he didn’t notice when Kaiba slipped back in the room with food for both of them. Kaiba placed the food on a coffee table he had near his bed. He came over to Jou and moved him around until there was a nice place for him to place the food and for himself to sit. Jou found it weird that Kaiba would physically move him instead of just ask, but guessed that it had to do with his wrapped foot.
They sat in silence, the mute room eating away at Jou’s sanity. He sat there stuffing more food into his face, hoping that Kaiba would say something. Nothing was said, which made Jou fidget on the bed. Jou looked around once again attempting to find something to occupy the time, only noticing a clock that he had missed before. It was noon, and Jou knew instantly that it wasn’t the weekend. “Fuck….” Jou said as he tried to push aside the tray to get up. “Stop.” Kaiba said calmly, but stern enough to make Jou follow his order.
“I’ve got class I need to be in,” Jou said, he stared into Kaiba’s eyes, mentally trying to fight the other.
“Doesn’t matter, you need to rest.” Kaiba said fighting right back.
“I can’t miss class…” His determination faltering, realizing that Kaiba was probably given orders by the doctor from before.
“You’ve got an acceptable excuse, deal with it.” Kaiba replied, “If you’re done with food then I’ll make you go back to sleep.”
Jou wasn’t exactly happy with the response he got, but hoped that maybe Kaiba would leave him alone enough that he could sneak out soon enough. Jou growled at Kaiba, before turning over in the bed, hiding under the covers. Kaiba rolled his eyes as he took the food away, leaving the room.
Jou waited, Kaiba hadn’t come back after apparently returning the tray and dirty dishes back downstairs, after which Jou waited for a good 10 minutes to see if Kaiba was coming back. He guessed that now was his best opportunity to get away. Jou uncovered himself, then turned to the side of the bed slowly easing his foot to the ground. He was afraid to stand up, knowing he had to, but felt the unmoving fabric of the bandages wrapped around his foot.
Jou breathed in slowly before heaving himself off the bed. To his surprise his ankle didn’t hurt much when he stood, but as he took his first steps to the door began to limp pretty badly. Jou grabbed the door handle opening it to find Kaiba standing there, his usual disapproving look at Jou. Jou grumbled, before Kaiba grabbed him off the ground by his waist and took him back to the bed.
“I guess I’m going to have to watch over you all day.” Kaiba noted.
“Just let me go to school,” Jou cried, like a child throwing a temper tantrum.
“You’re worse than Mokuba,” Kaiba said as he headed to the door, “I’ll be right back, don’t move.” Kaiba glared as Jou, freezing him in place.
Jou pouted, being compared to Mokuba and being worse, hurt his pride. He wasn’t sure where Kaiba had gone, but it sounded like Jou had gotten himself locked in after his first escape attempt. Jou grumbled to himself more, until the door opened and Kaiba came in the room with a laptop. Kaiba shuffled Jou over to half the bed as he got situated. Jou looked skeptically at Kaiba, with no response. Kaiba took the blankets, hoisting them over Jou before repeating his earlier advice, “Sleep, you need to, and it will help you feel better.” He said before starting up his work on his laptop.
Jou resigned, knowing there was virtually no way to win this battle without getting hurt worse. He messed with the blankets, grabbing some to bury his head under so he didn’t have to listen to Kaiba’s constant typing. After calming down for a bit, he was finally able to return to sleep as he had been instructed.

Thank you all for the nice reviews, it really makes me want to go write more...which I'm actually planning to do in just a bit. I'm also planning on sharing the love, reviewing some of your stories(if you've got 'em) or just reviewing someone else, so that they can feel the same way I do.
Thanks for reading.
