Chapter 4

Hello again! Sorry for the late update, I had started typing this a while ago, re-read it, and thought it sounded like crap, so I had to completely re-think it over.

Thanks again for all who reviewed, I appreciate them very much!!!!

I’m not sure if this chapter will be considered “long” but it’s about an important part in the storyline so I wanted it to be separate (and the fact that I don’t know what comes after this either!!!) Really, I just make up a chapter in my head once a week, I’m not all organized like some people.

Ok, now that all proper messages have been said, on with the fic!

Warrior of Shadows
Chapter 4

After what had seemed like only minutes (even though it had been almost eight hours) Yugi woke to find a rather hard thing poking him in the back (not “that”! geeze people, do you really think I’d move this thing that fast! He he he). He looked to his left side and found the hilt of the Warriors sword pushing up against him.

Under him he noticed his bed was a completely different color . . . huh? Was this even his bed anymore? Sometime during the night, it (the bed) had seemed to get swallowed up into a blackish/purplish abyss. Looking around, he saw that his entire room seemed to be covered in it. The fog/mist/abyss/whatever it was, was floating everywhere, and was so thick that he couldn’t see any of the walls.

A groan from behind him made him start, and he looked back to find the Warrior curled up around him. He was turning his head slightly from side to side, as if trying to get something out of there. His hands clutched at his fishnet shirt, pulling at it so hard that it had begun to rip off of him.

Yugi was horrified, and tried to wake up the monster. Grabbing the Warriors shoulders, he lightly shakes him, increasing his intensity until the monster’s eyes fluttered. As the eyes slowly opened, Yugi’s widened, as he saw what was underneath those long-lashed lids.

The Warrior’s eyes were black. Completely, and utterly black. There was no pupil, no white, and no crimson. Nothing except that blackness.

The Warrior looked at Yugi (or at least Yugi thought he was), tanned arms reached out and grabbed the teen’s shirt, pulling him closer to the monster. As Yugi got involuentary closer, he saw small tears forming at the corners of the Warriors eyes.

‘He’s not trying to hurt me’, Yugi thought to himself as another thought dawned on him; ‘He needs my help”. A strangled moan snapped him out of his thoughts, as he watched his “bed” slowly start to suck the Warrior into its swirling black sheets.

With a shout, Yugi leapt across the bed (he had gotten up to try and see the walls of the room) and held on the Warriors belt, hoping that the accessory was strong enough to heave up the monster.

Bracing himself on what felt like solid ground, he grabbed the belt and pulled. His legs burned with the effort; the monster seemed to be a bit heavier than he looked.

‘This is the first time I have ever helped someone else out in a long time,’ he thought as he breathed deeply, trying to replenish his quickly fading leg muscles. ‘I feel more for this stranger than I have felt in a while, I guess I finally have something to live for now.’

He grinned to himself, but the expression not lasting long as the bed gave another large tug on the monster. Yugi gasped as something hit him in the back, making him fall onto the Warrior, his grip loosening on the monsters belt. An icy coldness swept through him as a whimper escaped from him. Pictures of his childhood flashed through his head, and for what seemed like hours, he saw his friends leave him over and over again.

The pain that he had felt every time he had tried to take his life came back in a rush, and for a moment he was completely lost. Then the strangled cry came again, and something within Yugi’s mind snapped.

‘The warrior,’ he thought, remembering why he was in this predicament in the first place. He then realized that the cold feeling and memories were coming from this shadow mist; that it was trying to drag him in also.
With new found strength he grabbed the hilt of the Warriors sword, wrenching it out of its sheath, and hoping that in doing so he hadn’t injured the Warrior in any way. He opened his eyes fully to reveal that he was actually inside his bed, and looking above him, could see a small window to his room.

As he brandished the sword in various directions, having really no clue what he was doing, he noticed that it felt like he was moving through water. Once again grabbing the Warrior’s belt, he kicked his legs and saw that he was actually “swimming” through the shadows. Luckily, before all his friends left and his grandfather died, Yugi had been one of the better swimmers on his high school swim team; because pulling the Warrior with one hand and holding his sword with the other was a rather difficult way to swim.

He finally reached the “surface” of his bed and dragged himself and the Warrior onto what was left of his bed. Looking down, he saw that the Warriors sword was glowing a bright crimson color. Not knowing what to do, and thinking that it was the best idea at the time, Yugi threw the sword spear-style into the hole in his bed.

And it seemed to work rather quickly. Like a giant toilet flushing, the shadow mist swirled down into the hole, the wind whipping Yugi and the Warriors hair in all directions. In less then a minute, all of the mist was gone, and the room looked as if nothing had happened.

Yugi picked up the sword that had suddenly re-appeared on his now whole bed, and placed it back into the sheath on the Warriors belt. That action seemed to wake the monster from his nightmare, as long-lashed eyes blinked a few times. To Yugi’s relief, they were back to their normal colors.

Also to the small teen’s surprise, the current state of the Warrior left him (Yugi) slightly breathless.
Small beads of sweat ran down the monster’s forehead, making his blonde bangs stick to his slightly flushed cheeks. His whole body shone in the light from the windows, making him look extremely exotic to Yugi. The monster shivered slightly and panted, obviously tired from the recent ordeal.

Remembering what had transpired the night before; Yugi suddenly embraced the monster, wrapping his arms around his neck and briefly resting his head upon his shoulder.

“Thank you” was all that the teen could get out before the monster quickly pulled back, and a look of surprise and uncertainty flashed through his features; before his face once again settled into its non-emotional state. He looked at Yugi, his crimson eyes hiding his true emotions.

Yugi quickly looked down, trying to get away from this uncomfortable moment, when a hand briefly set upon his shoulder. Looking up he saw the Warriors lips slightly turn up in what seemed to be . . . a smile?! But before Yugi could truly think about it, the moment was gone, and the Warrior was on his feet and walking out the door just like nothing had happened.

A slight heaviness in his back pocket makes Yugi stick his fingers inside to reveal the Warrior’s duel monster card. Where the silhouette of the Warrior had been, there was now only the shadow mist, swirling as though it was trapped inside. Writing that Yugi had never seen before had also appeared.

“Warrior of Shadows: A brave, strong, and loyal fighter of the shadows, he protects all from them while searching for his true mate.”

A clang from downstairs made Yugi look up, and realizing that the Warrior must be attempting to make breakfast, tucked the card into his pocket and walked out of the room.
