Chapter 3
Is it safe?
I’m SOOOOOO sorry for not updating on time. I’ve been scheduled to close at my job every night now. And my town (in northern Illinois, about an hour from Chicago) just got clobbered with over a foot of snow, so I’ve been digging out all of my older relatives too. Oh well, guess that’s what you get for living up here.
So yeah, thanks to all of you that have reviewed, it really means a ton to me that there are people out there that actually read my blabber!
Warrior of Shadows: Chapter Three
A few weeks had passed, and Yugi was slowly getting used to this silent duel monster staying at his house. No matter how hard the teen had tried, the monster would not talk. All he would do is nod or shake his head, and stare at Yugi with those powerful crimson eyes.
The Warrior of Shadows took care of him, being just nosey enough to make sure that Yugi didn’t attempt suicide, but not enough to really annoy the violet eyed duelist. Yugi had noticed many other strange things about this monster; other then the fact that he was the only one he knew of that didn’t talk.
This Warrior always seemed to know what he needed, even though most of the time he stayed out of Yugi’s sight. When Yugi felt hungry, the Warrior was there, when he was hurt (inside or out), the Warrior was there. It was almost as if they were connected in some manner.
Another weird thing was this monsters lack of emotion. All of the other monsters Yugi had either used in a duel or spoken with, they had all seemed to have their own personality. But the Warrior didn’t. Yugi suspected he did of course, but only because he could see the colors sometimes swirling in his blood-red eyes.
Yugi had re-opened the shop (after having it closed for a while due to his condition at the time) and was currently working on stocking a new shipment of cards. The shop was occupied only by a few duelists here and there, most of them just talking amongst themselves as the searched the shelves.
The Warrior was currently in the house-part of the building (Yugi’s house was connected to the game shop, the house-part is upstairs) probably cleaning, or in some way trying to help Yugi out. Without the monster though (although Yugi didn’t want to believe it) he felt very much alone. It seemed that the Warrior was like a kind of fire blanket to him; when he was around, he seemed to put out all the flames from Yugi’s depression.
Yugi pulled open another cardboard box, cutting open the tape with scissors. As he began stacking the shiny foil packages upon the shelf, two twin girls sauntered by on the other side of the shelf (Yugi could see through the self, in between the card packs). They stopped just a few feet from being directly in front of him.
“Do you think he can hear us here?” One of the twins said. She had bright red hair pulled back into a bun, and her bright blue eyes twinkled.
“Oh I doubt it, he’s so immersed in those stupid cards that he never pays attention to anyone,” replied the other, quickly glancing around with her jade green eyes. She also had carrot red hair, except hers was twisted into a long braid that slinked down her back.
Yugi leaned towards the shelf, raising on his tiptoes and turning his head so that he could hear better. He was almost positive that they were talking about him.
“I’m surprised that he even opened the shop, I mean, haven’t you heard what he did?” said the blue-eyed teen.
“Of course I did! Everyone knows he tried to commit suicide. But did you know how he survived? I heard that he had hurt himself pretty bad.”
“I’ve got no idea. All I heard was that some guy apparently stopped him from going all the way.
Yugi stifled a gasp. How could news have gotten out? He never told anyone, and he didn’t remember anyone coming to the house while he was recovering. The Warrior doesn’t even talk to him, so he doubted that he would have spoken to anyone else. He was jolted out of his thoughts as the twins continued to talk.
“How can he still be alive? I mean he’s tried to kill himself so many times, I’m getting so sick of hearing about it!”
“Yeah me too, what’s he have to live for? His grandpa’s dead, and all of his friends are in college----“
“What a loser he is! All of his friends have gone to college; wouldn’t it make sense for him to go too? It’s not like he can’t afford it.”
Yugi turned around before he could hear anymore. They were right, what did he have to live for? When his grandpa had died his friends were there to help him get through it. When he had to take over the shop and he messed up with the financial side of it, his friends had loaned him money to help get the store going again.
He walked up into the house, not even bothering to close the store. He didn’t even care anymore. Absent mindedly, he went into his room and shut the door. Lying on his bed he pinched his nose shut with his fingers and took in a deep breath.
‘If I’m going to do this right, I want to feel it burn,’ he thought to himself as he held his breath.
His lungs burned as his body fought to make itself breathe. He felt his pulse slow down, attempting to cope with the lack of oxygen to his brain. His vision dimmed, his brain felt fuzzy.

The Warrior looked around, noticing that Yugi had not finished his stocking. He thought this was odd, seeming as Yugi always make a point of finishing what he had started. He walked about the store, looking for the small teen. Girls stared at him as he went; captivated by his tight jeans, black boots and white racer-back shirt (He had changed from his “monster attire” so that he would fit in better).
//If I’m going to do this right, I want to feel it burn//
Immediately after he heard the voice of Yugi in his head, he immediately headed up to the youth’s room, being able to sense where he was. He found the boy lying on his bed, his face a light shade of purple.
Grabbing the boy’s shoulders, he shook him hard. In all of his worry he lost track of his shadow magic, and he reverted back into his normal attire. He put his head down next to Yugi’s, only to hear that he wasn’t breathing.
Feeling extremely uncomfortable with what he had to do; The Warrior placed a long-fingered hand under Yugi’s chin and pushed up his head. Using his fingers to pinch the teen’s nose, The Warrior took at deep breath and placed his mouth over Yugi’s.
He repeated this twice, before a fluttering of eyelashes met his crimson eyes. Yugi slid his eyes open and looked around, having no idea how he could have failed again.
‘It’s true! I can’t even kill myself right!’ he screamed in his head. He saw The Warrior look into his eyes, seeing an emotion he hasn’t seen in a long time: Compassion, and possibly love!?
The duel monster reached foreword with his long arms and picked up Yugi. He placed the small teen into his lap, and wrapped his arms around him.
Yugi froze, unused to this caring gesture. Then, without warning, his emotions flooded his brain, and tears started flowing down his soft ivory cheeks. The Warrior just sat there, holding Yugi in his arms as long as the small teen would let him.

Well I hope that that was worth the wait. Sorry again for not updating on time! So R&R please!
P.S. I do not mean to offend anyone out there who didn’t, or does not want to attend college. I have plenty of friends that have never set foot in a college and are very successful. I only used the college reference because I thought that it would fit into the story well, not because it is my actual feelings.
