Chapter 3: Illusionist Faceless Mage

“Mr. Pegasus sir, Seto Kaiba of Kaiba Corp., has been defeated in a duel.”

“Mmmm.” Pegasus’ eye gleamed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things at the mansion had been decidedly quiet. Fuguta was very short with him each time they met in the morning. All he had been told was that the Master had gone away and had not said when he would be back. His younger brother was extremely worried about him. But Yugi was to have no contact with the younger Kaiba; Master’s express orders were for them not to meet under any circumstances. Mokuba knew nothing about the slave in their home.

Of course it felt so good not having to give his Master sex, not that he hadn’t enjoyed their first experiences, but lately his Master had been rough, and it had hurt.

And Yugi was also still very worried about what had happened between his grandfather and his Master. He still had not worked out what had happened with the duel between himself and his Master. Why hadn’t he recognized him? It had seemed at one point that he had, but he had gone on with the duel. What kind of trouble was he going to be in when his Master came back from where ever it was? And what was with the not knowing what had happened after the duel?
One minute he was defeating his Master then the next he was out on the street being picked up by Fuguta, and the brown haired man seemed very angry at the time too.

Yugi was counting the days to the weekend, hoping that Fuguta would be letting him have time off again. He’d done very little all week, just stayed in his room with the Duel Monsters cards Fuguta had left with him, studying them further. He had to admit that he enjoyed the duel with his Master. He had been scared, but he had also won, and that had exhilarated him like nothing else had. Then he remembered his backpack, which he went to and looked inside. It was where he kept the Puzzle his grandfather had given him. The puzzle box was in there too. He pulled them out and looked at them. He set aside the puzzle reluctantly, and opened the box he had assembled it from. As he looked inside he found another deck of cards. He took them out and found them to be the deck his grandfather had given him, there were the five Exodia cards, and his favorite, Dark Magician. Afraid that he would be caught by Fuguta he quickly put the deck back in the box and returned to box and puzzle to his backpack. He hadn’t realized that he still had the deck with him, but it made him glad that he did. These were two things his grandfather had given him; they were the only belongings he truly possessed.

All week at school Yugi’s friends Tèa and Joey played the game too, and Joey kept losing. He also hoped to see his duel winning friend, the one that had defeated Seto Kaiba.

Everyone was waiting for the weekend it seemed.

On the Saturday morning Yugi met Fuguta at breakfast.

“Get dressed, I’m going into town and I don’t want you here alone. Master Mokuba might take to wandering around the house and I don’t want him accidentally running into you. The Master would never forgive me. My brother is having the weekend off too, he usually watches the younger Kaiba, but he’s free this weekend and I want to be… want to spend some time with him. Here is a keycard to a hotel room, use it tonight; I will pick you up on Sunday evening. Take some extra clothing with you; put it in that backpack of yours.”

“The whole weekend free?”

“Yes. I do not know when the Master will return, and I don’t know what happened for him to leave so suddenly. He will be back though I’m sure of it.”

Yugi nodded. A whole weekend to visit with his new friends and his grandfather,

After being dropped off, Yugi hurried towards his grandfather’s game shop.

“Hey Yugi, wait up,” he heard from behind. He stopped to find he was being hailed by Joey. “I’m so glad to see you Yugi. Every since I saw you beat that Kaiba snob, I’ve been practicing Duel Monsters…. But, I just can’t seem to win. What is it Yugi, why can’t I ever win, teach me what I’m doing wrong.”

Yugi shivered at the mention of his Master, but Joey didn’t see that. He didn’t want them to know who owned him, and he was sure his owner wouldn’t want that either. He’d have to be careful there.

“Let’s start by checking your deck,” said Yugi.

Joey reached for it, “Huh, okay. Here you go,” handing it to Yugi.

“Thank you.” Yugi looked through the cards Joey had given him, and suddenly he could see what was wrong. “Hey what you got here? Your deck’s filled with nothing but aggressive cards.”

“You got it, I packed it with every butt kicking monster there is.”

“That isn’t good at all.”

“Huh?”

“Duel Monsters is all about taking your Monster cards and combining them with spell cards, combining’s important, with no spell cards in your deck your monsters will get creamed every time.”

“See,” said Joey grabbing Yugi, “that’s the kind of thing I need to know. Yugi you gotta help me.”

“Huh?”

“Isn’t your grandpa a Master of the game?”

“Uh huh.”

“Good, let’s go see him.”

So Joey and Yugi did so, and with a month until a Duel Monsters Tournament coming up that he aspired to, Joey took up training with grandpa.

“I have the weekend free, Grandpa,” said Yugi.

“That’s great Yugi.”

Yugi went to the hotel that night, but he did spend the weekend either with his grandfather or his friends. He said goodbye to them all, wishing Joey luck in his training.

For the next month it was the same, Yugi got the weekends off. Fuguta had given him a laptop as he found that if Yugi did some more schooling he would have something to do until the Master returned. There had still been no word from him in all that month.

At the end of the month Joey only got as far as a finalist in the town preliminaries which Yugi learned of at his next weekend off. They all sat down to watch the finals between Weevil Underwood and Rex Raptor. While that was going on Yugi got a package from his grandfather which really surprised him, who would know about him? Or his connection to his grandfather? Obviously his grandfather found nothing unusual in it. But the finals were more important and they watched it. Weevil won and was given his prize from Maximillian Pegasus.

Later grandpa reminded Yugi of the package which they opened and pulled out the video tape, Yugi placing it in the machine.

“Hello there, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you Yugi boy.”

While the others spoke about who the man was on the tape, Yugi found himself shocked, how did this man know him?

“I’m sending this as a personal video letter to you Yugi.”

“What?”

“When I’d heard that you defeated young Kaiba, I decided to test your dueling skills. The rules are as follows we’ll play with a time limit, life points are set to 2000, when fifteen minutes are up the player with the higher life points wins, sound good?”

Yugi couldn’t believe this, neither could his friends, and then he was pulled into the Shadow Game, which he knew it to be, but how? The strange feeling he had felt before filled him again, and he began his duel with Pegasus. Wondering how the man knew what cards he drew, and what he was holding. The man was strange to say the least, and he also worried Yugi. He was a very rich man like his Master. And he had invented Duel Monsters. Still, Yugi had the confidence of a Master Duelist just like he had felt in the duel with Kaiba.

“I know how shocked you must be Yugi boy, but this is very much real, there is no way you can beat me. And once you lose you will have to participate in the event that I will soon sponsor.”

“What?”

“This event was designed to prove who is the rightful King of Duelists in the Duelist Kingdom.”

“The rightful King of Duelists?”

“He who is crowned King will earn great honor and a greater monetary prize.”

“I’m not at all interested in your event. What if I were to say no.”

“But you see no is not an option for you. Since there is absolutely no way you can defeat me, you are not allowed to escape.”

“I have not lost yet.”

The game continued and Yugi wondered even more how the man was reading his hand. Was he using magic or hypnotic control? What was it about this man that made him so powerful? But soon Yugi had the upper hand, until Pegasus pulled the Illusionist Faceless Mage and Yugi struggled. But he nearly won when the time ran out.

“The game is over, that was very close. If this game had finished I would have surely lost to you Yugi boy. Yugi you are a lot more skillful than I thought. I have a strange feeling that you and I will battle again in the Duelist Kingdom.”

“And If I were to say no?”

“There is no way you can escape me Yugi,” and he revealed the eye, “Mine is the shadow power of the Millennium Eye.”

“Millennium Eye?”

“We shall meet again in the Kingdom that is if you want to claim what is most dear to you.”

And with that he took Yugi’s grandfather’s soul. Yugi felt himself regain himself and the last thing he heard from the video over his grandfather was Pegasus saying, “I know who you really are.”

Yugi screamed at the TV, not knowing what to do as his friends came too behind him, they too did not know what was going on.

He explained to them what was going on, as far as he could. They all headed for their homes and Yugi had to go back to the mansion. Fuguta would be waiting for him.

That night as he lay in his bed, the last words of Pegasus played over and over in his mind as he drifted off.

His dream that night was of the day he was sold at the auction. He remembered being very scared of what was about to happen. He was completely naked, but that was not an unusual thing in his life, but this time he was to stand in front of very rich people he had never seen before.

The auction arena was in the round and he was made to stand in the center, a bright light making him stand out, and all eyes drawn to him. He heard the announcer telling the small crowd about him, his height, weight, age. How long he had been in the complex, how long he had been in training and that he was a virgin. Yugi could only vaguely see the shapes of the people in the background; hear the calling of the bids once the auction had begun. Only once did he make out a face in the crowd of a man dressed in red with long white hair, and there was a gleam of gold around his eye.

Yugi woke up with a start in his bed, panting in fear. Could it have been that Pegasus the owner of Industrial Illusions had been at his auction?

He lay back down and pondered the idea. If the man knew who he was how did he expect him, a slave, to participate in the Duelist Kingdom Tournament?

Oh Gods, what was he to do? How was he going to get his grandfather back from Pegasus? How was he going to do anything while he was a slave? Even his Master was missing and no one seemed to know why. What would he do if his Master did come back and knew what he had done? Would he be punished? Would he be sold or sent back to the complex in disgrace? What the hell was he going to do?
