Chapter 2

AHHHHH! So yeah, I’m making a cosplay for Anime central (for those who don’t know it’s a giant Midwestern anime convention), and I was downstairs sewing my costume, when I came upstairs and found out that my puppy had torn up my walkman!!! Not only just the walkman, but the headphones were ripped in half! Now I don’t know about all of you, but my life revolves around music, I listen to it constantly.

Ok but enough of my current musical problems. For those of you wondering why I’ve waited so long to update this: I try to update once a week, this will usually happen on the weekends, when I have time to type. So yeah, just an FYI there, so none of you are wondering if I’m dead or not.

I would also like to thank all of my reviewers for giving me their thoughts, I really appreciate it.

And now, on with the fic!

Warrior of Shadows: Chapter 2

A warm ray of sunlight pierces the room, hitting the sun catcher in the window and sending thousands of tiny rainbows around the room. One small rainbow settles itself upon a small teen seemingly lost in a jungle of violet-colored bed sheets.

Long-lashed eyes flutter open as Yugi wakes up. He glances around without moving his head, his body still sore from his wound. Looking down, he can just barley see the white gauze wrapped around his neck; holding the blood in. He moves his fingers and toes, realizing that other than his neck, he is perfectly fine.

Desperately he tries to remember how he had gotten here, but his memory is still somewhat foggy. The last thing he could remember though was the feeling of the invisible hand, the one who had inevitably saved his life.

A soft click is heard, and the door to his room slowly swings open. He looks over to the edge of his bed as a total stranger in some rather interesting clothes walks in. Yugi’s eyes drift up and down this new character, studying him suspiciously.

Angular crimson eyes stared right back at him; not showing fear, but not showing love either. Blonde bangs framed his face, along with bold streaks throughout his raven black-crimson-tipped hair.

Bat-like wings sprang from well muscled shoulders, making his dark tan complexion even more exotic. He had on a black sleeveless fishnet shirt, letting Yugi see just enough of his skin to know that his shoulders weren’t the only part of him that was muscular.

Hip hugger leather pants hugged his frame like a second skin, with chrome buckles running down the side seams. Two chrome-accented belts also hung from the lithe waist, accenting the body part even further.
Black boots finished off this look; which would have made him seem like a rather tough character even if Yugi hadn’t seen the faded scars and bruises that adorned the person’s body. A long sword was strapped to his left side, along with a matching dagger on the other.

The stranger continued into the room long legs carrying him to Yugi in only a few strides. He was holding a tray consisting of a bowl of cereal, orange juice, and yogurt. He set it on the table next to Yugi and leaned his left side against it, his left ankle crossing over his right.

Yugi stared at the stranger a bit longer, then at the food. He wasn’t hungry at all and proceeded to tell this strange man so.

“I’m really not hungry at all,” Yugi said quietly, slightly intimidated by the man.

The character shook his head, apparently not taking no for an answer. Yugi pleaded with him over and over, just wanting to be left alone.

“WHEN I SAY I’M NOT HUNGRY, ITS MEANS I’M NOT HUNGRY!!!” he finally yelled, so upset with the stranger that he felt his blood pressure rise. The scab on the wound cracked open (with it being less than 24 hours since Yugi’s incident, the slash hadn’t had a chance to really heal yet) and a small river of blood quickly soaked through the gauze and onto his pajamas.

The stranger quickly grabbed some more gauze from under the bed (where it had been put by him just for this purpose Yugi had assumed) and pressed it to Yugi’s neck. Yugi, still angry, fought against him desperately trying to push the strangers arm away. But of course in his weakened state (and probably even in his strongest) he was no match for those muscular arms.

He finally gave up, letting the stranger tie a knot in the gauze so that it would stay around his neck. The stranger got up and grabbed the bowl of now very soggy Frosted Mini Wheats and pushed it towards him. Yugi shook his head no again, but more gently this time. The stranger sighed and suddenly reached out to grab Yugi’s nose.

Yugi obviously knew what he was trying to do (open his mouth), the same thing that his grandpa had done when he had been trying to feed Yugi cough syrup. Yugi had become an expert at evading this. He clenched his teeth as he parted his lips, so he could breathe relatively easy without fully opening his mouth.

The stranger gave another strangled sigh, as if to say ‘enough with these childish acts’, and set the cereal bowl back down on the table. With one hand still on Yugi’s nose, he shoved his finger under Yugi’s chin, catching his jawbone. He pressed upwards, HARD. Yugi squeaked in pain, momentarily forgetting about the cereal. That was all the time the stranger needed to slip in the spoon and deposit the gooey food product into Yugi’s mouth.

Yugi swallowed, and then gave up completely, taking the bowl and feeding himself. The stranger leaned against the table once again, crossing his arms over his chest in contentment. He stayed and made sure that Yugi ate everything on his tray, then picked it up and left to clean it.

Yugi couldn’t help but feel as if he had seen this person before, he searched his memory the best that he could, until his brain began to feel fuzzy with sleep. He looked at the clock, and realized that he had been fighting with this stranger for over three hours. Yawning, he settled down into the sheets once more, as a flash of light caught his eye.

He looked at the table once more, and noticed the duel monsters card that he had picked up yesterday. He reached over and picked it up, once again staring at the mysterious silhouette of the Warrior of Shadows. He moved the card up closer to his eyes, just barley picking out what looked to be bat wings from the monsters shoulders. And . . . . was that the hilt of a sword?

Just then, the stranger came back in, dragging a chair from the corner of the room and placing it beside Yugi’s bed. He turned it around so its back was facing Yugi, and then sat in it, both legs on either side of the chair’s back. Crimson eyes stared calmly at Yugi, no emotion showing at all.

Yugi turned the card around so that the stranger could see it, with what energy he had left. He could already feel sleep coming over him quickly.

“This you?” Yugi asked with a yawn, his eyes beginning to close.

The stranger gave him a curt, but sincere nod.

“Oh, ok then. Good night.”

As Yugi drifted off to sleep, the last image in his mind was of the duel monster with the dark crimson eyes.

&*&*&*&*&*&*&*

So, how was that? This wasn’t originally how this chapter was supposed to go, but I just got this idea and ran with it. Another update coming next week hopefully! R & R please!
