Dearest

Marik leaned his back against the wall, holding Yugi to his chest. The spike haired boy leaned back too, closing his eyes. They were going to be here awhile so hey might as well try and relax.

“Damn you two, get a room!” Jou took his seat, ducking before Varon could smack him in the back of the head. “Yugi, what’d you do?”

The boy opened one violet eye. “I threw a rock at the principal’s car. It was my ‘protest’ against the unfair imprisonment of my comrades.”

Bakura lifted his head off the desk and chuckled. “You’re full of it Chibi.”

Yugi grinned. “Yeah, but at least Marik has company now, hm?”

Marik kissed Yugi’s neck and used one hand to look through a magazine. “And this way, we can hang out before I go to work! Ha!”

Bakura rolled his eyes. “Hell’s frozen over for sure. You’ve got a job?”

“Yeah...” Marik smiled. “Because Hikari’s are suckers for gifts.”

“Hey!” Yugi elbowed him and turned to look at him. “I’m not a sucker!”

The Egyptian just looked at him and Yugi blushed.

“Shut up Marik!” he whined.

Bakura laughed again and put his head down. Seto had gotten off as expected and was probably at home doing some kind of work. Maybe he should just skip detention too and go see him.

Right after his nap.

“Look...I’ve got something to tell you.”

The boy blinked, pushing hair behind his ear. He shifted in his seat and looked up, not sure if he wanted to hear what was going to be said.

“You know I haven’t been by a lot lately.”

“You’ve been busy. I get that.” he smiled, the expression quickly fading when the other boy looked at him in the eyes.

“It’s not just that. Look -.”

“I don’t care if it’s some one else!” he cried, reaching for him. “I’ll do whatever you want!”

The person smirked. “Oh, I know you will. That’s why you’ll never see me again. Right Espa?”

The boy whimpered and began to cry, Honda cracking him against the side of the face.

“I don’t want to hear that!”

The boy nodded and sniffled, staring down into his lap. “I’m sorry. I -.”

“Yeah, you are sorry. I had to cancel a lunch date because of this. You know how hard it is to just walk off of school grounds to go see someone? Then I have to deal with you -.”

“Please don’t do this Honda! I’ll -I can be on the sidelines, I can! Just don’t get rid of me please!”

The boy lit a cigarette and tilted the boy’s face up. “Oh yeah, and why not? You’re only good for the sex.”

The boy’s eyes began to tear up again and Honda pushed him away, leaving the small room.

“Tell your mother I said Hi.”

Yami slipped back into his uniform pants, looking over his shoulder at Amelda who was coming out of his short sleep. He was pulled back down on the bed, turning his face for the kiss.

“You wanted to talk to me?”

Amelda ran his hand through his hair. “Yeah...about that...I wanted to talk to ya first thing...but you know how you get to me Yami...”

The pharaoh smirked and kissed him again, Amelda stopping him, sliding his hand up his chest.

“Yami...look, I like you a lot I do...but ah...I’ve been seeing someone else.”

“Hm. Is that who you were with last night after you left? Telling me you had work today?”

“...So you knew?”

The boy just looked into his eyes and kissed Amelda, standing up and getting his shirt. He put it on all at once, Amelda standing to put on his boxers.

“So...you like Honda better than me. Is that it?”

“Yami...Atemu come on.”

Yami went for the dresser and took a few swipes at his hair with Amelda’s brush, tensing when arms came around his waist.

“Please don’t be angry. We can still be friends.”

“Honda can’t be your boyfriend. He won’t go out with you he won’t dance with you -.”

“He has.”

“And you know what he did to Otogi -.”

Amelda kissed Yami’s neck. “He isn’t like that, not with me.”

Yami stared in the mirror at himself, at Amelda. “Why are you still touching me.”

“I don’t want you mad.”

He shoved the other boy away and slammed the brush to the dresser. “I”m not mad Amelda. I’m fucking pissed.” He leveled his gaze. “I just have control of myself that’s all. I’m not a pharaoh any more. I can’t have you castrated or eaten by scarabs or raped by my guards till you bleed to death. I’m a normal teenager. A normal...fucking...teenager.”

He got his school jacket and bag, made sure his keys were in his pocket and left, slamming the door to Amelda’s apartment.

Malik sat on the counter in Otogi’s store, greeting customers as they came in and helping with general questions. He’d become quite adept at it recently and every now and then Otogi gave him a little commission in cash or...otherwise.

The raven haired boy came from the back and put some more cash in the register, looking up at Malik and smiling.

“Aren’t you cute and helpful?”

“I am.” Malik motioned to his ear. “This dice earring is great. You sell them?”

“No.”

“You should...”

“I leave all that crazy merchandise to my Tokyo store.”

Malik was shocked to hear this. “You have franchises?”

“Just in Japan.” He looked at the boy and closed the register. “Why?”

Malik shrugged. Otogi really was rich then. The Egyptian looked around the shop. “Holy shit, fuzzy dice!”

The boy cracked up and shook his head, watching as Malik went to inspect new merchandise.

Ryou held his school bag in his lap, jerking his head up every now and then as he tried not to nod off. He glanced at the clock and then at his watch, resolving to stay just a little longer.

“Bakura-san?”

He stood and approached the receptionist. “Yes?”

“You may go in now. Be mindful, it’s the end of the day. I’m sure the chairman would like to get home as quickly as possible.”

He bowed his head. “I understand. I know he’s busy.”

Ryou walked down the long corridor, finally pushing down on the silver handle that opened one of the double doors. He went inside and turned to close the door behind him. He turned around and stopped, his breath leaving him.

Dartz sat behind a huge cheery wood desk, typing away, glancing every now and then at reports. On the couch nearby he saw a few text books that had to do with business and smiled. Dartz was a college freshmen this year.

“Yes what is it?” the youth said without looking up.

“Are you...very busy?”

Dartz stopped and looked up immediately. “Ryou?”

The boy blushed and looked down at the floor. “If you’re busy, I can leave. I can just call later I -.”

“No, I’m not busy. Come sit down.”

Ryou approached the desk, sitting in one of the mammoth chairs -well, they seemed huge to him. He put his school bag back in his lap and tucked a strand of hair behind his ear.

“H-how are you?”

“A little busy with work and college, but fine. I started early, right in August.”

“Oh...” Ryou said softly, realizing that was why Dartz hadn’t been by. “Well, what are you taking?”

“Business courses. But you knew that.”

“I did...” He sat there and just looked at him, smiling gently. “You look good.”

“They force me to go to lunch. And you?”

“Ah, just fine!” he said cheerfully. “Junior year is not as tough as I expected and calculus is a breeze though Yugi and Malik insist it’s absolute murder I...” He stopped and looked at his lap. “It’s different...without...you.”

“Well, we all have to move on don’t we?”

“Yes, yes!” He smiled again, running his finger over the bag clasp. Why couldn’t he look at him?

“I think maybe I should take some advanced classes, maybe get into University with you...”

“I wouldn’t rush it.” Dartz looked Ryou over. He seemed pale and withdrawn. “How’s that cat?”

“Oh, you know Akefia...still biting people, still hissing. He really is sweet though.” Ryou looked up then, noting that Dartz had begun to type again. “He fell into the dishwater this morning.”

“Hm. Any clubs?”

“Me? No...I thought about maybe calligraphy...but I don’t want any ink stains on my clothes and what would I do with it anyhow. Everyone is doing well...though Yami and Yami Marik have relapsed and seem to be taking Yugi with them. They’ve all got a month’s detention now. I worry about them.”

Dartz nodded absently. “You do worry quite often. Sure you’re eating well?”

“Yes, of course!” He gripped his bag. “Maybe...one day...or this weekend could we maybe -.”

“Sorry, I’m booked solid for a while. Why?”

Ryou’s breath hitched softly. “I just...wanted to see you.”

“Well, I wouldn’t worry. I’ll be over as soon as things let up.”

The boy’s head snapped up. “Really?”

Dartz chuckled and looked at him. “Yes Ryou, really. Geez, you act as if it’s been months.”

The pale boy smiled, his brown eyes disappearing. “Yeah...seems like...” He got up and smoothed his sweater vest. It all just seemed so wrong. Why was Dartz so...far away from him?

Ryou placed his bag in the chair and walked behind the desk tentatively. “Dartz?”

“Hm?” he looked up, alarmed when he saw Ryou wasn’t in the chair, but behind him. “Oh god, Ryou, don’t do that. Scares the hell outta me!”

He gave a small giggle. “It’s just me silly...” He reached out his hand and cupped the other boy’s cheek, leaning in for a kiss. The brief shock of making contact with Dartz’s cheek instead of his mouth sent waves through him, his eyes beginning to burn.

“I...love you Dartz.”

“Mm hm. See you later Babe.” he said, already turned around.

Ryou retreated then, taking up and his bag and looking over his shoulder again before he left.

It’s Dearest...
