Answers and More Questions

Author’s Note – I wasn’t expecting the positive responses I got for this new story. Thank you to all who reviewed this tale and are hanging with me to see what happens next. A big hug goes to my sisters and hello to my RP group! You guys are great! I do apologize for the length of time it took to get this out. I’ve had a lot of personal, computer, and financial problems that have seriously cramped my muses’ ability to create. But we’re finally working on writing now! A huge thanks to SilverShadowFire for beta reading this for me!

Disclaimer – I do not own YuGiOh, as much as I would love to say I did. The only thing I own is the plot bunny and my wombat kennel!

Chapter Two – Answers and More Questions

Between the stronger males of the group, they had gotten the stranger into Seto’s limo and Isis knelt beside the unconscious figure as he was settled into the soft seat. She’d located the source of the wound that seemed to be bleeding the most and was putting pressure on it, hoping to be able to stop the bleeding before reaching the CEO’s home. Ryou was beside her, keeping slender fingers on the pale column of the man’s throat, monitoring his pulse. It was steady, although a little weak.

Malik had been guided to another car by Bakura and placed into the backseat. Since he’d seen those sapphire eyes, it seemed as if the blonde’s brain had gone into neutral and shut down. The thief had realized it and had made sure that the hikari wouldn’t be left behind, knowing that it would probably be a while before the lavender-eyed teenager regained his full senses.

Conversation drifted around him, discussing who the newcomer could be and the odd circumstances that had brought him. No one seemed to be able to come up with a logical explanation as to what happened, not that Malik could care at the moment.

After they reached the CEO’s home, Malik wordlessly followed Seto and the others to the room that had been set aside for the new arrival. Seto had made to ask him to leave as the rest of the group was going to the living room to wait for news, but Marik and Isis both shook their heads at him. So instead of insisting that the hikari go with the others, he gestured him towards a chair that would be out of the way.

Malik watched silently as the physician examined the unconscious man, tending his wounds and making him more comfortable. Once the exam was finished, he approached the azure eyed teenager and gave his report.

“There’s a large lump on the back of his skull and quite a few injuries. It almost looks like he’s been burned in several places. There’s a couple of deep lacerations, which I’ve sutured. With rest, plenty of fluids, and the medications I’m leaving you, he should be all right within a few days.”

“Thank you, Dr. Nagawa. I appreciate you coming in like this.”

“I’m glad to be of service, Mr. Kaiba. Please call me if you require my services again.”

Seto had the doctor escorted out and when he returned, he found the yamis waiting outside the slightly open door.

“Will he be all right?”

“The doctor seemed to think so, Yami. He’s patched him up. All we can do now is wait for our guest to wake up. We’re going to need someone to sit with him. He may panic, which wouldn’t be good for his injuries.”

Malik moved to the door when he heard these words and nudged it open. His lavender eyes focused on his yami as he broke his own self imposed silence.

“I’ll do it.”

Another set of eyes, this one a slightly darker shade of lavender, turned to his soul partner.

“Are you sure, hikari? You haven’t exactly been all there since he arrived.”

“I know, but I can’t leave him. I need answers, Marik.”

Their eyes met and held for a few minutes before the platinum haired yami answered Malik.

“Then answers you shall have.”

Malik nodded his thanks and moved back to his chair, pulling it closer to the bed. His eyes examined the sleeping figure as he absorbed the conversation that continued in the hallway.

“Considering his behavior, do you think it’s a wise idea to let him watch over this new guy? Malik hasn’t exactly been himself since he arrived, you know.”

“I know, Kura, but I can’t deny him this. He needs answers to the dreams, and this is the only way to get them. He’ll be fine.”

Yami responded to Marik, knowing his lover was correct. This was probably the best thing for the hikari right now.

“Marik’s right, Kura. Malik will be fine. When the guest wakes up, he’ll be able to ask the questions that have been bothering him since the dreams started. Let’s hope the patient is up to answering questions.”

“I hope so, Yami. I’m not comfortable with it. I’m not used to Malik acting this spacey. I mean, yeah, he can be a bit out there from time to time but not like this.”

Marik laughed and the group wandered away from the door, leaving Malik alone with the unconscious man.

Hours slipped by unnoticed as the blond haired hikari waited in silence, memorizing every feature of the lavender haired patient. The mature features of the silent man carried a look of innocence and sadness, making Malik wonder what he had seen in life to make him like this.

Finally, his wait was over when there was a soft sound from the bed. Malik leaned forward, and his breath caught in his throat as lavender met sapphire and held. Sorrow, pain, loneliness, and fathomless wisdom could been seen in the azure depths, and it made the hikari gasp at the almost overwhelming intensity he found there.

After a few moments, he roused himself enough to address the newcomer.

“How are you feeling?”

The man took a deep bracing breath and answered the question. The gentle voice sent chills down Malik’s spine.

“I’ve been better. Where am I?”

“Domino, Japan.”

His eyes narrowed as he tried to place the name, and the Egyptian waited patiently for a response to his answer. What he got was something he would never have anticipated in his wildest dreams.

“Japan! As in Earth?”

-“Marik?”-

After a moment, his yami responded through their link.

-“What is it, Malik?”-

-“Our guest has woken up. You know, I’m not sure he’s from Earth.”-

-“What do you mean by that?”-

-“Something about the question he asked me and his reaction. I think you guys should get up here.”-

-“We’re on our way.”-

Malik, realizing that he needed to answer the question, quickly responded.

“Yes, this is Earth.”

Lavender hair spilled over his eyes as he shook his head, trying to process what he’d just been told.

“How in Pillar’s name did I end up here?”

“That’s what we’d like to know.”

At the new voice, lavender and sapphire eyes turned to look at the door. Malik nodded as he recognized the people standing in the doorway. Seto was the one who had answered the question and moved to the bedside, flanked by all three yamis. The rest of the group scattered to stand in various areas around the room.

“I’m Seto Kaiba. You’re in my home.”

Despite his position, the lavender haired man responded with quiet dignity and authority, telling the listeners that this was someone who was used to being in a powerful position and would remain as calm and comfortable as possible, despite the situation he was now facing.

“I am Master Mage Clef, and I thank you for your hospitality.”

“How did you get here, Clef, and where are you from?”

“I am from Cephiro. As to how I arrived, I’m not certain. We’d been invaded and the last thing I remember was facing down one of the sorcerers that had accompanied their troops. We’d both thrown spells at the same time, and everything went white. The next thing I know, I’m waking up here.”

Seto looked over at the yamis, who were frowning as they listened to the explanation. Judging from the puzzled expression on Yami’s face, it was obvious they weren’t too certain as to what was going on either. The former pharaoh spoke next, trying to find an explanation as to what had happened.

“It’s possible your spell interacted with your opponent’s. The question now is how to get you back home.”

Clef shook his head. He’d been wondering that himself and knew that it wouldn’t be easy. Then again, nothing in his life had been lately.

“The only ones who can traverse from my world to Earth are the Magic Knights. The last time I saw them, they were fighting alongside their lovers.”

Marik made a wry expression, unsure of what he’d just heard. The term wasn’t familiar, and it sounded rather funny to him.

“Magic Knights?”

“Three warriors chosen to defend Cephiro. Apparently, the prophecy contains more than what we originally thought about them. At any rate, they’re the only ones who can go back and forth to Cephiro. Right now, I’m not certain how to get home.”

Seto nodded, his mind working on various things. For Malik to have been dreaming of this person for so long could only mean that something was coming and the CEO wasn’t certain of what it could be. He wrinkled his nose – more magic crap, just what they didn’t need. However, he did know that he would have to keep this new arrival close by in case something went wrong.

“You’re more than welcome to stay here until we find a way to send you home or if something else comes along.”

“Thank you.”

Seto left the room, quietly conversing with Yami about what this could possibly mean. The others followed, occasionally joining in on the conversation. It was obvious that all of them were somewhat stumped by the recent events and were wanting to find a way to rationalize it all out.

Malik turned to Clef, who was silently staring up at the ceiling. For some reason, the hikari could tell that something was lying heavily on the man’s mind and he wanted to try to help relieve the burden, if he could.

“Are you all right?”

Clef turned his head and found the slender young man standing close to his bed. He recognized him as the one who had been there when he had regained consciousness.

“There’s just a lot on my mind. I just hope my friends are all right.”

Malik ran his hand through his blond locks, trying to figure out a way to reassure the mage.

“You said they were Magic Knights, right? Surely, if they can use magic, then they’ll be fine.”

“They’re powerful, that’s for certain, but even magic users have their limits.”

The hikari gave Clef a gentle smile and leaned over to lightly touch his hand, wanting to try to comfort him. When his fingers made contact with the warmth of the mage’s hand, the blond haired Egyptian was stunned by the almost electrical pulse that went through him.

Once again, sapphire met lavender and the darker depths held the hikari’s gaze in a magnetic way. Neither one of them could break away from each other. It was almost as if they needed to stare into each other’s eyes to find something they both had lost and had spent so long looking for.

The mage’s voice held recognition, awe, and some fear as he breathed out his next question.

“Who are you?”
