"Jounouchi!”
“Hey Yuug!” Jou smiled down at his friend
“Want to duel for a bit during lunch?” Yuugi beamed up at him.
Jou twitched slightly “As long as its against you and not Yami, he kicks my ass every time”
“You don’t usually mind” Yuugi frowned slightly
“I’m not really in the mood today Yuug” Jou’s smile faltered slightly, lately he had been increasingly uneasy around Yami, being slightly worried that the spirit would tear his soul into a thousand pieces if he found out how he felt about Yuugi. Jou had always seemed to be prone to random unexpected outbursts, he didn’t really want to blurt out “You know what? I love Yuugi!” when Yami was around. Or when anyone with ears was around for that matter.
“Okay just you and me then,”
“Great” Jou grinned as he bounded off to class.
“I can’t believe you beat me!” Yuugi pouted, his amethyst eyes widened sorrowfully as he stared up at Jou
“Neither can I! You almost always win against me even without Yami’s help.”
Yuugi slumped back into his chair and smiled at his friend “I must have been distracted”
Jou tilted his head to one side, if anyone should have been distracted it was him, throughout the game he had been desperately trying not to think too much about how close he was to Yuugi. Even now he was having trouble, that pout didn’t help, it brought to mind thoughts of how soft Yuugi’s lips looked, how they would taste … Jou shook himself slightly, hoping Yuugi hadn’t noticed him staring “Why?”
Yuugi bit his lip and looked down “Nothing important”
“If you say so Yuug”
Later that day Yuugi flopped onto his bed and looked up at the almost transparent manifestation of Yami that stood looking down on him, concern evident in his dark eyes.
“What’s the matter”
“Nothing” Yuugi rolled onto his stomach, “things feel a little weird around Jou lately that’s all”
“What do you mean?”
“Well I’ve always been so happy to have him as a friend, and now… I don’t know, things seem different”
Yami frowned “He’s not upsetting you is he?”
“No” Yuugi smiled slightly “Its ok Yami things just seem different that’s all… maybe theirs something on his mind… its sort of hard to explain”
“If your sure your ok…” Yuugi nodded, “Ok then goodnight aibou” Yami retreated to his soul room.
“Goodnight Yami” Yuugi sighed as he stared up at the ceiling, he wished he knew what it was about Jou that was bothering him…
Jou sat at his window staring out at the stars, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about Yuugi. He loved everything about the boy, from the tips of his spiky hair to the toes of his scuffed trainers. It was ridiculous. He wanted… no needed to be around Yuugi, but the more he was, the more he wanted to kiss him, touch him, to tell him that he loved him and always would. The most he could do now was get a hug once in a while, and that only made him want more. Everything made him want more, but he couldn’t have it.
He knew if he tried he was at risk of loosing the friendship he had now, and he felt like that would kill him.
The next day everything pretty much went on as normal, at lunch Jou sat with Honda, Anzu, Ryou and Yuugi, no one seemed to notice that he was unusually quiet despite the fact he was normally the most vocal of the group. Even Ryou was talking more than he was. At least it seemed like no one noticed, but as Jou excused himself explaining that he needed the toilet, Yuugi rushed over to him.
“Are you Ok?” Yuugi laid a small hand on Jou’s arm, concern written all over his face
“Of course” Jou plastered a huge fake smile over his face and walked into the bathroom, Yuugi followed.
“You were very quiet… its not anything to do with me is it?”
Jou stopped his eyes widened slightly “What do you mean?”
“Its just that things seem different between us lately”
“How?”
“Well… I haven’t done anything wrong have I?”
“No! Of course not! You know me Yuug, nothing you could do would ever upset me”
“Really? Promise?”
“Of course” Jou smiled down at his friend
“Great!” Yuugi instantly perked up and for a minute Jou thought he was going to let him off, but deep down Jou knew even he wasn’t that lucky “So what is the matter?”
“Nothing to worry about Yuug” Jou looked affectionately at his friend, normally he would be annoyed at someone being so persistent, but he knew Yuugi’s questioning was only out of concern.
“You’re sure it’s nothing to do with me?”
Jou looked away, lying to such wide innocent eyes was just too difficult “sure”
“You don’t sound sure…”
“Its not your fault its mine” Jou slumped against the wall past the point of being able to deny that his current mood was something to do with Yuugi “You didn’t do anything wrong… far from it”
“What do you mean” Yuugi’s eyes were beginning to shine with unshed tears he looked up pleadingly at his friend “It is to do with me isn’t it? If it is I deserve to know!”
“Please don’t make me say it…” Yuugi only stared back at him “Please Yuug… you don’t understand… your friendship means too much to me to let something like this ruin it”
“Tell me Jou”
“Please…”
“Tell me
“I’m in love with you! I’ve tried to change the way I feel… I can’t I’ve never met anyone who I care about as much as I care about you… I love you and I always…” Jou’s words were cut off as lips closed over his own. For a second he froze, his eyes wide open as Yuugi’s lips pressed gently against his own, then suddenly what was happening sunk in. With a slight moan he closed his eyes, looping his arms around the smaller boys neck, entwining his fingers in the wild spiky hair as he deepened the kiss.
Suddenly the Yuugi pushed Jou away and he was left staring into dark angry eyes…
“What the HELL do you think you were just doing to Yuugi?” Yami snarled.
“Hey Yuug!” Jou smiled down at his friend
