Title: Toon Change of Heart

Chapter 2: Never

' There he is again, like so many other nights, standing on the balcony, gazing out into the night. What could e the thinking tonight I wonder . . .' Ryou thought to himself as he peered at the white haired founder of Duel Monsters from his bed. He could not help but find himself staring more and more at the President of Industrial Illusions that he had lost his freedom too all but two months ago. A tall and charismatic man with one shining amber eye and that white silver highlighted hair covering his curse. The curs the the Millennium Eye. Ryou could not staythesthese thoughts for long as a cool breeze blew in from the balcony and shot us exs exposed pale thighs. He shivered as goosebumps prickled along his skin. Somewhere in his sleeping he had managed to squirm and kick the covers off his body, a very bad habit he had since youth. The urge to pull the covers up and his creeping shirt down were nearly overwhelming, but he couldn't move if he was to keep his facade of sleeping up. He had gotten rather good at faking being asleep; it got really easy after the first week or so.

Chocolate eyes closed completely when a soft click echoed on the cool breeze, the curled body could feel the eye gazing over him as another click, and this one sounding more like flesh hung in the air. Warm, but slightly chilled covers came up over his body as well as soft and seeking fingers. Ryou had to bite his inner cheek to keep the noise as lighting raced over the chilled skin and up his spin, but not before he uttered a soft: "Oh." Finally he could move! Shifting Ryou moved onto his back, moving his left arm to rest above his head. The soft sliding of fabric was accompanied by a soft 'clink' as the Millennium Ring came to rest at his side. Thoughts of the Yami resting inside him bubbled to his mind, but vanished, for three days and three nights he didn't' have to worry about that grave robbing demon.

"Hello Yugi-boy." The slightly snide and tired voice crooned, Ryou shifted as Pegasus set the little sand tabby kitten down on his chest. The kitten, once Yugi stretched before curling into a ball atop his friend. Ryou took the opportunity to shift and cuddle to the small ball of fluff. Had it really been two months since that fateful duel? Since everything. . .literally everything was put on the line? Seemed more like years. . .long and tired years with some smiles in between.

The end of the Duelist tournament had been such a shock that the white haired boy didn't know where to find himself. He, as well as Tea, Joey and Tristan were certain that Yugi, with his powerful counter part were sure to defeat the one-eyed demon that had stolen the souls of the brothers: Seto Kaiba and Mokuba Kaiba. But as they stood on the walkway, watching the intense battle below, they all knew it was a loose, hearing those digital numbers countdown to zero was like a bomb going off. Before little kne knew it, he was the only one left, glancing to his deck he nodded and stepped up the challenge, part of him telling him to duel for the cursed eye of the demon, but his better half won out, challenging for his friends.

' I lost so badly. . .and he seemed to enjoy ripping each little piece off of me bit by bit, flashing their soul cards or sneering at my 'futile attempts.' I despised you at first, Pegasus J. Crawford, for how you toyed with everyone like your little cards. But now. . .after all this time have I found myself enjoying your company, our small talks. I-I can't believe I am soon to lose the one thing I have left to me, the most personal of things!" Little Change of Heart curled down a bit tighter, hugging the purring Yugi neko closer to him, sighing inside of his mind.

Yami Bakura, the grave robber, had made that bet seeming so sure of his own victory. He had lost even worse than his bleeding heart counterp Aft After so many duels the one-eyed teaser had easily figured out the strategy of the young failing hero. So is the fate of any duelist he supposed.

Ryou peered out from beneath his eyelids again to find Pegasus touching the cool glass of a window, touching it right in the reflection of that damned Millennium Eye that shined like warm gold in the moonl. He. He, or rather, Bakura had attempted several times to snatch that eye from the mirthful face of its' owner. He sighed and thought back into his mind about what he had discovered about the founder of Duel Monsters in the past month or so.
Well, to begin, the man was insane! Oh, sure that was a given, but you didn't know how much of a given until you actually met him and stuck around for more than ten seconds. Like most rich men, the silver haired, smooth spoken demon rode in a limo. . .correction, he liked to drive himself.
Not to weird, until you stop! The first time it had happened, Ryou had wondered if maybe Pegasus was doing it to simply mess with him, but soon found out he did it on a regular basis.
"It" was the habit of driving the limo, parking and getting out. Getting out only to get back in. . .in the rear passenger side and then getting back out again and walking as calmly as if James, the imaginary driver himself had opened it! Ryou soon found himself getting out of the limo quickly and walking on as Pegasus did his little ritual everytime they stopped. Someone had to be embarrassed for them! Overtime things began to seem almost normal, evhe ahe animals, once his human friends, that ran around the manor.

The first was the warm fluffy sandy kitten currently held in Ryou's arms, Yugi, his tag was really his millennium puzzle turned id tag. Sure the kitten was cute. . .then it got made and became Yami, the jaguar. Tea had become a bird of paradise always singing a soft song on a silken perch in the garden. Tristan was a slow, but beautiful cougar who often lumbered around with a small blonde puppy in toe. Tristan defended that puppy with his life. Certainly all can guess that Joey was that sweet little ankle bitter? Pegasus had a somewhat sick sense of humor sometimes. . . And what of Kaiba? Well he became a rat snake, a baby one currently in a glass cage in the main hall. These were Ryou's constant reminders of what he was dueling for.

Ryou had had enough already, seeing Pegasus standing there was finally getting to him enough to rouse him from the doze he drifted off into.

"P-Pegasus-sama?" He spoke, voice tired and heavy with drowsiness. The cartoon-loving founder turned around. Ryou remembered the first time Pegasus had told him to give his name with respect, at first he had done it grudgingly or with constant reminders, now it was common tongue, something uttered as easily as any name or reference.

"Yes Ryou?" He asked.

"Go to sleep Pegasus-sama, its 4:30." At that Ryou let his head flop back down into the pillow, eyes closing into a true sleep, more relaxed now, knowing Pegasus would be sleeping and stop his insomnia for tonight. The bed shifted slightly and sighed contently as he felt warm contact with another body. Ryad bad been so cold, but found his heart warming. . .was he becoming his favorite card and working it's magic on himself? No, he'd never give himself up. Two more days and two more nights. NEVER.
