“Thanks for
leaving me some hot water, Tsunami, there’s nothing I hate more than a cold
shower!”
Stepping
out of the tiny bathroom, one towel draped around his slim hips and using a second to dry his hair, Joey found Marko sitting on the bed, sporting a simple,
white loincloth, his head resting in his palms. Smiling, he went over to the
elder teen and sat down beside him with a heavy sigh. Pausing his hair-drying
actions, he placed an arm around the other one’s naked shoulder.
“Come on,
cheer up, buddy, I’m sure, we’re gonna find Weevil and punch the living
daylights outta him, when we get your stuff back.”
Nodding, Marko drooped his
head a little lower, hiding his eyes behind his dark bangs.
“Marko?”
asked Joey hesitantly, as he felt the larger teen shudder.
Silent,
bitter tears ran over Marko’s tanned cheeks, as he tried to swallow the sobs
rising form his chest.
“Hey, come
on, man, don’t go soft on me, ya hear? Marko?” At loss, what else to do, Joey
acted on instinct and pulled the weeping sailor into a tight embrace, letting
him cry on his naked chest.
Letting his
hand stroke his dark tresses, Joey hushed soothingly into Marko’s ear:
“Shh, it’s
ok, everything’s gonna be ok. I promise. Everything’s gonna turn out right,
just hang on, ok?”<
Finally,
with a few tiny hiccups, the crying subsided. Sniffling, Marko drew away from
Joey, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“Man, sorry
about that, it’s just, all shit hits me at once, ya know? I mean, I was so sure, I’d either find my father or at least get into the finals. Then
first, I loose my two best cards to you-well, I don’t mind that all that much-
but then, I loose my father’s track yet again, and then Weevil just
takes off with my deck and all my belongings..”
Tsunami had
regained his composure, his slight, familiar frown resettling on his features.
Joey kept
silent, then rose and went over to the table, where his deck and DuelDisc sat.
Shifting through his cards, he soon found what he was looking for. He then
turned back to Marko.
“Listen,
Marko, I know what it means, to reach pitbottom. I also know, that you’re not
the kind of person to just roll over and die, whenever he’s faced with a
challenge.” Sitting down, he locked eyes with his confused counterpart.
“We’re both
very much alike, you and me: we never give up, never mind how hopeless the
situation seems. And even if that
little fuck Weevil has your deck, remember, a part of it is still safe and
sound.”
With that,
he handed Marko the card, backside facing up, and smiled reassuringly.
Blinking,
Marko flipped the card over and stared at-
“My
Mysterious Fisher?"
For a moment
he remained silent, then his surprised look changed into one of anger and hurt
pride.
Shoving the
card back to Joey, he snarled:
“I don’t
want your pity, Wheeler-“ Slender, firm fingers wrapped around his wrist, as
Joey replied:
“It’s not
pity, but a promise.”
“Huh?
A..promise?” The blond nodded, a serious expression on his face.
“Yes. I
promise, that you can keep your fisher, until you get your deck and
wallet back. If need be, I’ll fight the Battle City Finals without him.”
Baffled,
Marko’s eyes flew from Joey to his favourite DuelMonster and back. Finally, he
managed:
“Joey,
this..this-why are you doing this for me?” A soft, tender smile grew on the
blond’s face, as he moved closer.
“Isn’t that
obvious?” A shy brushing of lips was followed by a hushed:
“Suki da,
Marko-chan”, before Joey sealed Marko’s mouth with a chaste, longing kiss.
