Chapter 19: No More Us
Yami closes his eyes for a moment then hears a thud and a crash. He
looks to see Yugi laid out on the base of the steps.
"Yugi?! Aibou?!" He says running down.
Mrs. Mutou runs from the kitchen to where Yugi is.
"What happened Atem?" She says as she helps Yugi up.
"I don't know, we were walking down the steps and he fell."
"Why didn't you catch him?!"
"I couldn't!" Yami says.
Yugi opens his eyes and looks at his mom.
"Okaa-san?" he says looking at her.
"Yugi are you ok?!" she asks as she searches his body for any
broken limbs or cuts.
"I'm fine." he says standing to his feet.
"Aibou?" Yami says.
"Get away from me you fiend!" Yugi says pushing Yami away.
Yami swallows as his heart threatens to jump out his mouth.
"I remember it all. I remember everything." Yugi says. "I remember
how you have sex with Kaiba."
Yami slowly backs away.
"Do you remember me, really? And daddy and grandpa?" Mrs. Mutou
asks.
"Yes. I do. But I have a blank spot in my head. The last thing I really
remember is coming home and as I cross the street a car comes flying
out of nowhere. I tried to dodge it, but I the car ran over my legs. They
didn't even bother to stop to see if I was ok."
Yugi reaches to feel his legs, but he feels the synthetic legs.
"Where are my legs?!" Yugi asks.
"You had to have an amputation. You were left for dead on the road for
so long that the wounds became infected." Mrs. Mutou says.
"Ok..."
"You almost died if it wasn't for Yami."
Yugi stares daggers at Yami.
"What could he have possibly done to save my life?!"
"He located your body. Then you had to have a blood transfusion."
"I have an unknown type. Whose blood do I have in me?"
"Yami's. He was a perfect match. He stayed in the hospital with
you for a year, helping you during your rehab."
"Must have been for sympathy reasons."
Yami looks sadly at Yugi as he continues to stare daggers at him.
"Well...let's go eat." Mrs. Mutou says.
She, Yugi, Yami, and Grandpa sit at the table and eat.
"Well, isn't this a quiet breakfast." Grandpa says.
"I have nothing to say." Yugi says as he continues to stare daggers into
Yami.
"Don't the two of you start it. I don't want to hear any arguing
from the two of you." Mrs. Mutou says.
Yugi and Yami put their dishes into the dishwasher then go back to
their room. Yugi sits at the desk chair and Yami sits on the bed.
"Why are you looking at me so pathetically?" Yugi asks.
"I just want to make sure you're really ok." Yami says sadly.
'It was wonderful while it lasted. I guess he doesn't remember about
us after his accident...'
Yami buries his face into his knees and begins crying.
"Why are you crying? I should be the one who's sad. You were the one
who ruined us." scolds Yugi.
Yami could do nothing but keep his head buried in his knees. He couldn't
even look at Yugi.
'Stupid memories...why did they have to come back now?! We were so
happy together.'
"I love you aibou."
"Huh, what was that?" Yugi asks. "Did I hear the 'L' word from you.
That word was so abused."
"How can you talk?! You went and started fucking Jou.""Heh"Heh, we were in different boats, going down the river together. Unlike
your boat, mine didn't sink."
They sit in silence for a while until Yami gets up and goes in the
bathroom. He comes out then opens the closet door and picks out
a suit to put on.
"In a hurry to get back to Kaiba Corp I see."
"I have work to do. There's a lot I've missed these past 2 years.
Besides, anything's better than listening to you right now."
"Couldn't wait until I got my memories back so you can go and fuck
Kaiba again."
"I don't have to listen to this, ai..I mean Yugi." He says putting
his tie on. He slides his shoes on then grabs his briefcase from
under the bed. "Sayonara."
The door slams then Yugi lays his head on the desk and starts
to cry.
'I wish there was something that can be done to get us back together.
I lied, I remember what happened after the accident. I remember
how we were. I wish that we can be like that once more...'
Yami walks past Mrs. Mutou who is headed into thop. op.
"Going back to Kaiba so soon I see. I told you this wouldn't last."
Yami sighs. "He doesn't want to be around me. So I'm going to
work. I will see you later."
He walks out the back door and to his car. He gets in and starts it up
then backs out the garage.
'Too bad aibou. You, as well as I know that now, there will be no
more us.'
