Chapter 12: Day Seven

It’s the final day in Domino City. I’m really going to miss this place. I may take a vacation here and visit the sights…and really pay attention in them.

Ok then, maybe not.

We’re separated into groups of two. The first group will go to the surprise location, then to Kame Game Shop. The group I’m in, the second group will go to Kame Game Shop, then to the surprise location.

We arrive at the small game shop with the house in back. Some are wandering why waste our time coming here to such a small gaming shop and others are more than eager to see why we’re here.

An old man comes out the front door of the gaming shop.

“Good morning! My name is Mutou Sugoroku!”

Mutou…is he the King of Games’ grandfather?

“Judging by your reactions when I said my name, you all must realize that my grandson is the King of Games. So much intense training went into molding my grandson into the King of Games. I was so proud of him when he earned that title.”

“Sugoroku…are you bragging again?”

I look to see a tall lean woman walking from the back door. She has medium-length reddish hair. She’s wearing a simple skirt set with a plain white apron.

“Mind your own business Ashita!”

“Ah! These are the students from Kaiba-kun’s Duel Academy. How are you doing today? My name is Mutou Ashita. I’m Yugi’s mother.”

So, the mother and grandfather of the King of Games.

“Forgive Sugoroku here. He has a tendency of bragging on being the only reason for my son’s success.”

I see where the King of Games gets his innocent smile. I wonder where his father is.

“Well, who was the one who introduced his first game to him?” asks Ojii-san.

“Sugoroku!”

“My point exactly. Now, if you want I can show you the game shop and Yugi’s original deck. The one that went on tour was just a replica. We would never allow those cards to leave here.”

We all go in 10 at a time to look at the inside of the shop and the deck. I go in with the last group. On the wall just above the tournament posters is a large display board. It has every card neatly arranged by type and attack points.

“Ojii-san, did the King of Games use two decks?” a student ask.

Everyone turns around and sees the second deck display on the opposite wall.

“No. That deck is the deck of Yugi’s closest friend. He respected and loved him so much until when he passed, he asked me if I could display his deck on the opposite side of his.”

Wait, that sounds familiar… The other Yuki also said that his friend passed also…

“Some of the cards of Yugi’s friend’s deck are replicas.” Says Ojii-san.

“Wow, the three God Cards!” exclaims Sho.

“Why doesn’t the Sun God Ra have any writing on it?” asks Misawa.

“When the card was created, Pegasus-kun couldn’t decipher its power. So he used a special ink that showed the original text of the card when played. Only certain duelists are able to read the text. There are only three people known who can read the writing. One was Yugi’s friend. The second is Malik Ishtar. The third, Kaiba Seto.”

Everyone gasps, including me, when we learn that Kaiba-sama is part of a select group who could read the text of the Gods.

“Kaiba-kun once possessed The God of Obelisk. Because of that, he named the best dorm after it. Even though The Sun God Ra is the most powerful of the three cards, because it has three very devastating abilities, he decided to name the middle ranked dorm after it. Since he despised Yugi so much, he decided to name the ‘weakest’ dorm after The Sky Dragon Osiris.”

“What’s that yellow card next to the three God Cards ojii-san?” asks Yuki.

“That is Holorakti, the result of a fusion of the God Cards. No image is shown because no one can see the image because of the bright glow that shines around it.”

The three Gods are able to be fused to make an even more powerful monster?

“Only once has Holorakti ever been successfully summoned.”

“By the friend of the King of Games I bet.” Suggests Manjyome.

“You would be correct.”

“Sugoroku-Jii-Chan! I’m back to buy some more cards!” I hear someone yell from behind.

“Yuki? Is that you?” asks ojii-san.

“Oh, I didn’t know that the Duel Academy students would be here today, or else I wouldn’t have come!” whines the other Yuki.

“That’s ok! I’m sure they don’t mind. Ok, everyone this is Mushima Yuki. He is the top duelist on the KC Pro-League Tour circuit.”

“Nice to meet you all!” he says smiling.

Once again, he has on that black hat…

“I come by here routinely to hear stories about the King of Games! Jii-chan is so nice and so is Ashita-san. So jii-chan, has Yugi-sama been home lately?”

“No Yuki, he hasn’t. He did call yesterday.”

“What is he doing?”

“Working part time.”

“Doing what?”

“For I2. He’s a Duel Analyst for the Pro-League tournaments.”

“Wait, there’s going to be a Pro-League Tourney here next month! Do you think he’ll be here then?”

“I don’t know Yuki. But, the next time I talk to him, I’ll ask. I know it’s your dream and these students dream to someday meet the King of Games.”

Why is nothing making sense right now? It seems like their conversation was staged.

“Ok everyone, now it’s time to go your next destination! You are more than welcome to come back later if you choose!” yells Cronos-sensei.

We all leave Kame Game Shop before being escorted to a building just down the street.

“Our surprise location today is a very prestigious and honorable location. Someday, I hope for each and every one of you to have your names here. Welcome, to the Duel Monsters Hall of Fame!”

Wha…

We all go in and everyone scatters everywhere. I manage to stick with Asuka, Yuki, Sho, Hayato, Misawa, and Manjyome. In the first room is a display case that has the name of famous duelists. Each separate case represents a duelist. You can go up to the duelists’ case and read some interesting information and even hear them say something.

First, of course is Kaiba-kun.

“I didn’t know that he and his brother were orphans.” Reads Asuka. “It also says that he contributes thousands of dollars and countless numbers of hours at local orphanages.”

“Press the button. I want to hear what he says.” Says Hayato.

Asuka presses the button…

‘There are only two types of duelists in this world: Me and those who are not me. Now, which one are you?’

“That was kind of cold…” says Sho.

“But what else do you expect from someone who has just about the entire dueling world wrapped around his fingers?” asks Misawa.

We go on to the next display which is of the King of Games.

“His display case says that he was the holder of a Sen’nin Item, the Sen’nin Puzzle and during his entire dueling career, he’s only lost 3 times. One was to Pegasus J. Crawford, the second was to Kaiba-sama, and the third was to someone named Raphael.” Reads Asuka.

“So, Kaiser, it looks as if you have an even better record than the King of Games!” says Manjyome.

“But look at this Manjyome, he’s dueled hundreds of times against some of the best duelists in the world!” says Hayato as he looks at his Duel Log.

Asuka presses his ‘voice button’…

‘In order to win, one must believe in the heart of the cards. As silly as it may sound, if you don’t believe in the heart of your cards will to fight with you, then how can they ever be there for you?’

“Nice quote.” Says Sho. “I believe in the heart of the cards too Yugi-sama!”

“Uhh, Sho, it’s not like he can hear you.” Yuki says.

“Wait a minute guys, which one is the King of Games??” asks Asuka as she points to a picture with two identical-looking people in it.

“Listen to this.” I say noticing a small writing by Yugi-sama. “’Everyone has a twin in the world. Heh, my twin however is a man that was born in Egypt over 3,000 years ago. His name is Atemu.’”

“That’s the name of the Pharaoh on the tablet from the museum!” exclaims Yuki.

‘”He was a spirit sealed inside of the Sen’nin puzzle, until I solved it and released his soul into my body. If you are looking at the picture below, then he is the taller one on the right. Atemu was my best friend. Even after he had performed his duty and returned to his era, it still feels like his spirit still lives within me. I miss him with all of my heart…’” I finish reading.

“Does anyone really believe that?” asks Manjyome. “It seems like the King of Games has a few screws loose.”

“It sounds like they loved each other…” mumbles Asuka.

So, I wonder if Pharaoh Atemu is the same ‘Yami’ that Kaiba-sama and Jou mentioned…

“Come on; let’s go to the next display. It’s of Jounouchi-kun!” squeals Asuka.

Apparently, she must be a Jou-groupie. If she only knew that he and Kaiba-sama are lovers…

The first thing she notices is a picture of him and a female...

“Who is this?!” she asks. “According to all the web-sites Jounouchi-kun is single!!”

Single-sex minded…

“It his younger sister, Jounouchi Shizuka.” Says Sho.

“She’s pretty, just like the radiance of the sun!” says Misawa.

“You know the last time what happened when you said something like that about a female.” Jokes Hayato.

“Uhh…never mind that!” Misawa quickly says.

“Their parents are divorced and he stayed with their father while his sister stayed with their mother, in Tokyo.” Reads Asuka. “Now that Shizuka is old enough, she has moved back to Domino City to get closer to her brother.”

“Sibling love is just too sweet.” Says Sho. “Isn’t that right, nii-san?” he says as he hugs me.

“Yea, it is Sho.” I say embracing my brother for a moment.

“I have the greatest nii-sama! Neener, neener, neener!”

“Oh stick a fork in it short stuff!” Manjyome says before I give him a look of death. “You’re lucky that Kaiser is your brother.”

“And what if I wasn’t his brother?” I ask.

“Nothing….” He whispers.

Everyone has a quick laugh before we go on to the other displays. We then go on to the 2nd room, which is the video room. Here you can watch the entire Battle City Tournament and the KC Grand Prix from the 1st Annual on up. I look around and notice most of the students watching The King of Games duels from the Battle City Tournament.

Wait…the one dueling is the one that was on the picture…the one that Yugi-sama introduces as ‘Atemu’. I notice on another screen that Yugi-sama is dueling against Jounouchi-kun. That’s at the pier…

“This is getting too confusing…” I mutter aloud.

“What do you mean?” asks Misawa.

“If you look at the screens where people are watching duels with the King of Games, you notice that the one dueling is the one that Yugi-sama introduces as ‘Atemu’. So maybe Manjyome, the King of Games doesn’t have a few screws loose.” I say to them.

I notice Yuki standing and staring at a screen, paused on Yugi-sama.

“What’s wrong, Yuki?” I ask as I stand beside him.

“It just hit me!”

“What has?”

“I’ve met him before!”

“Who? The King of Games?”

“Yes! The day I was to take my Duel Test! I was running a little late, so I was running through the city, trying to make it on time when I bumped into him. He gave me Hane Kuribo!”

“Yuki that was just a dream. There’s no way you’ve met the King of Games.” Manjyome says from behind. “By the time you took the Duel test, he was long-gone. Besides, isn’t your hometown here in Domino City?!”

“Nope. I’m from Ishikawa, which is just outside of the city.” He says winking.

“You nut! You were that close to the King of Games and everyone in this Hall of Fame and you didn’t try to come and meet them?! What kind of idiot are you?!” yells Manjyome.

“I was just in grade school then. Besides, my parents never had time to bring me here unless it was for something school related.”

I leave the two to their petty argument as I walk into the 1st part, then out the door. I really need to go back to the arcade. Something still puzzles me about Yuki…

“Kaiser! Wait up!”

I stop and turn around to see Yuki racing towards me.

“Where are you going Ryo?” he asks me.

“Back to the arcade.”

“The arcade? Why do you need to go there?”

“I want to see if Yuki is there.”

“So you can ask him…”

We’re pretty much silent until we reach the arcade.

“Remember what we said about checking the high scores?”

Yuki nods. “Oh, yea, that’s right.”

“Check the dates. We have to see the intervals of ‘Yugi’ and ‘KGYM’ to see if they were ever here at the same time.”

‘What will that prove Ryo?” asks Yuki.

“To see if the two somehow came here on the same day at the same time.”

We check every game and we find numerous scores with ‘Yugi’ and ‘KGYM’ having the same day and time on them. So much for that theory of them being the same person. We then go to KaibaCorp to see Kaiba and Jou once more, but the receptionist says that they are both out.

“Come on, Yuki.”

“Where are we going now?”

“I got a hunch they’re in my hotel room.” I say as we go up the stairs of Kaiba Hotel then to the elevator and down the hall to 2116. I open the door and there are three heads poking out from the oversized sofa, looking out at the city.

“Well, it’s about time you finally got here.” Kaiba-sama says.

“Kaiba-sama, I want to ask you and Jou, when was the last time you saw the King of Games?” I ask.

“Waoh, Kaiser, aren’t you stepping out of your lines? That’s the man who can have you expelled from Duel Academy and you can never move on to Pro-League.” Yuki says as he places a hand on my shoulder.

“As perceptive as ever, I see.” Replies Kaiba-sama.

“Wait, isn’t that the other Yuki sitting between the two?” my Yuki says as he points to the obvious black hat sitting between Kaiba-sama and Jou.

“So, I guess the gig’s up.” Yuki says as he turns around and looks at us.

“What gig?” asks Yuki.

“That I am the King of Games.” He says as he takes off the black hat to reveal his gravity-defying tri-colored mane.

Yuki and I gasp at the fact that the King of Games himself is about 15 feet away from us.

Kaiba-sama and Jou turn around and laugh at our obvious dumb-founded expressions.

“Wait, so Yuki is Yugi?” asks my Yuki.

“Yep, I am.” He says with a very cheerful smile on his face. “Jou called and asked me if I would come and meet the two of you personally. Well actually, I was kind of asked to spy on the two of you. I had fun though.”

Yuki and I walk over and sit on the floor in front of the three best duelists in the world.

“Kaiser, just as you suspected my alias, KGYM does mean ‘King of Games: Yugi Mutou’. The other day at the museum and today at the Hall of Fame, the two of you saw a picture of my other self. The little log I wrote is very much true. Oh, and tell Jun that I’m not the one who has a few screws loose!”

“So, tell me, Yugi-sama…” begins Yuki.

“You can just call me Yugi if you wish.”

“Ok then, Yugi, what do you do now? I haven’t seen you since that day you gave me Hane Kuribo!”

“Jii-chan was right when he said that I am a part-time Duel Analyst. But I also work for Kaiba Corp in relation that Kaiba did come up with the idea for the Pro-League. I2 and Kaiba Corp are partners in the Pro-League. But other than that I love to make guest appearances at the KC Grand Prix and other various dueling places. Other than that…I attend Domino University. I’m getting my masters in Business. Someone’s gotta run Kame Game Shop.” He says laughing.

“But why us? Why did you want us to meet him?” I ask.

“Because, you two are the best duelists at Duel Academy.” Replies Jou.

“So, what was your true relationship with Pharaoh Atemu? Why is he not listed in any of the history books?” asks Yuki. “I remember in class one day the sensei told us about another great Egyptian Pharaoh, Abidos the Third.”

“He was my lover. As for Pharaoh Abidos, I think he was the great-grandson of Atemu.”

“If the two of you were lovers, then how could he father a child?” asks Yuki.

“With a woman…” I answer.

“No! Not that! I mean if he loved Yugi, then why would he want to father a child if his heart lies with another?”

“Back in his day, it was forbidden for two men to be lovers. Even though he was Pharaoh, he still couldn’t break that divine rule. So he married and his wife bore a child, Abidos.”

“Ok, enough on the history lesson. “ Kaiba-sama says standing. “Are you going with me Katsuya?”

“I’ll meet you back at the manor.”

“Ok, see you later.” he says as the two kiss.

“Who ever would think that the two of them would be together? They used to fight and argue over every little thing. Kaiba used to tease Jou just to agitate him.”

“Surely did.” Kaiba says before he opens the door and closes it behind him.

The four of us continue talking and joking around. Yuki and I even exchange phone numbers with the two.

“So, how long have the two of you been an item?” Yugi asks out the blue.

How did he know?

“If you’re wandering how I found out, it’s actually quite obvious. The two of you are acting the same way Kaiba and Jou did during high school when they first started to fool around. Of course your friends wouldn’t know…but I do. Besides, ‘Yuki’ saw the two of you sneaking away at KC Duel Dome. And not to mention the nasty looks I was receiving from Judai Yuki during DDR. That’s an obvious sign of jealousy and something more than just a close friendship between you two.”

“How old are you, actually Yugi?” asks Yuki. “I saw in the pictures that you look very young.”

“I will be 23 on June 4.” He replies casually. “If you listened to my quote at the Hall of Fame, then that was about 5 years ago, right before my voice changed. I actually sound more like Atemu now.”

“Believe him, he does. He matured very late. Yugi used to be the shortest of all of us at no more than 5’ and that very high pitched voice proved nothing about his age. But, as you can see now, he’s 5’9” and yes, he does sound like Atemu.”

“Since it’s getting kind of late, we’ll leave you two lovebirds here.” Says Yugi. “If you ever need me for anything or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to call me. Don’t tell anyone that you know my phone number. That’s my private cell-phone number.” He says as he shows us his phone. “Only my closest friends have this number.”

“Thank you for everything Jou. Give our thanks to Kaiba-sama also.” Yuki says to Jou.

“Ahh, no problem. I really hope your relationship continues strongly. If you ever need any more demos…”

“Demos?! When did you and Kaiba start doing this?!” interrupts Yugi.

“Heh, it’s…complicated. But anyways, if you need any more demos or advice, just call me and we’ll be more than happy to fly out to Duel Academy Island.”

“But won’t you two get caught?” asks Yugi.

“We didn’t get caught all those other times. Unless you count the last time during the Masquerade Ball when Ryo stumbled into our private room.”

Yugi stands and puts his black hat back on and then tucks his hair underneath it. “Jou and I should really be going. Well, more Jou than anything. I’m on my way back home to eat some of okaa-san’s good cooking!” Yugi says excitingly.

“Hey, what is she cooking? Is she doing her spicy sushi?” asks Jou as the two of them walk towards the door.

“I don’t know Jou, we’ll just have to see! Bye guys!”

We wave bye to them as they close the door behind them. Yuki and I turn around to look out the window at the city for the final time this week.

“This has been a great week, Ryo.” Yuki says as he lies in front of me. “I’m glad we could spend it together.”

“Same here, Yuki.” I say as I caress his hair. “I only wish I wasn’t graduating, so I could spend even longer at Duel Academy with you.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. Besides, I always have Sho and the others to keep me company. When I have the chance, I’ll go to a Pro-League game and watch you.” Yuki says soothingly, as if to make my upcoming graduation not much of a sad-fest. “Are you going to go for Tourney or Tour?”

“I really want to go for Tour, but I’ll take whatever I qualify for.” I say as I look out at the moonlit, starry sky. “Are you sleeping here tonight Yuki?”

He nods lazily as he lies on his back.

“Come on, let’s go to bed.”

He shakes his head and then opens his eyes. “We should stay here. I like the moonlight shining on me. It makes me feel like I don’t have a care in the world, except, for you.”

“Yuki…” I say as I lean over and kiss him.
