Part Twelve
Honda paced, as well as he could on crutches, while Kaiba lay back trying not
to blow his top at Honda.
"All you have to do is tell them about..." Honda started to spouted off, his voice trembling
when he was interrupted by the door.
"Tell them about what?" The same detective who had questioned Honda had let himself in.
"Why now?" Honda asked,. irritated.
"It's fine, Hiroto..."
"He seems pretty coherent to me." the detective said as he helped Honda out.
"Wait, please. Seto?"
Kaiba looked up, calm and cool as ever.
"I..." he looked the detective in the eye, stiffened, and turned back to Kaiba, "I love
you..."
The detective could feel his skin crawl, but stayed professional and started to
help Honda out the rest of the way when Kaiba stopped him.
"He stays, or you get nothing." he said sharply.
Honda slapped his forhead, The hell is he doing?
The detective glared at Honda, who quickly looked up to meet it with a smile.
"It's not like he's going to hear anything he doesn't already know."
He let go of Honda, pulled up a chair next to the bed and got comfortable.
Honda stood back, trying to disappear into the corner. This cop was going to arrest them.
They were going to jail, he just knew it.
Seto, please be careful!
Kaiba smiled at the detective, and very plainly said;
"I have a lot of enemies..."
Honda nearly fell back. Why hadn't he thought of that?
Kaiba caught Honda's expression relaxing and gave a quick wink.
"Any one in particular that would want to actually do you harm?"
Oh shit!, Honda winced.
"All of them."
Yes, yes, "Yes!" The last one came out a bit louder than he wanted. The detective looked
over to be met with the same pathetic smile from before.
"Are you sure you want him here?" he asked, only to be answered with a cold, narrow stare,
"Ok, then, um, all..."
"Every one. I didn't go into business to make friends."
"Ok, what about the foreigner they found? You've been known to..."
"Hmph", How you morons fell for his fony death trick... oh well, I'll go with it...,
"Wasn't that a while ago?"
Shit! He is going to lie! Or...
"Then investigating him won't do any good then, will it?", Though we will anyway.,
He looked over to Honda and smiled. It was the worst attempt at, and time for, humor Honda had
ever heard. But he still kept his smile, "I guess we'll just have to investigate the rest of your
enemies then.", Starting with this foreigner., "Get well soon." he started to leave.
"You do that." Kaiba said flattly, making sure to wish him and his detectives luck, "By
the way..." he stopped him, "Someone is still working on getting the low life that did
_that_ to him?" he asked, in a rather cold, demanding tone, pointing to Honda.
"Y-yes, of course. Matter of fact we got him and we'll need to see Honda-kun about it
when he's ready." he answered quickly and left.
Honda could feel his legs weaken. He thought sure they were done for, or at least Kaiba
was.
He took a breath to calm himself, he was still shaken, and looked up to find Kaiba standing
over him.
"You shouldn't be up..."
"Neither should you. Are you going to be ok?"
"Y-yea, I was... so scared..." he said softly.
"I know."
"You knew what you were doing all along though, didn't you?"
"All along. Did you ever doubt me?"
He had to think about this one, when another thought hit him, "You realize you did Sieg a favor
too..."
"I like to think of it more as having done you and Mokuba a favor."
"Right... what about Otogi? What if he..."
"He won't."
"How can you be sure?" was answered with a shrug.
"I don't like this though..."
"??"
"You're getting away with murder. It's not right..."
"No, I'm not."
"But you just..."
"You'll never forgive me for it, will you?"
"No." he said without hesitation, taking Kaiba a bit by surprise, though it was the answer
he was expecting.
"Then I'm not getting away with anything."
"..."
He stood at the door, hesitating; not only were there cops out there wanting to question him
further, but he had almost forgotten about his parents.
"What's wrong?"
"My parents are out there."
"Do they know?"
"Yea, I'm sure the doctors told them...", I was kidding myself telling them to leave the
room., "You know they're going to want me to come home..."
Kaiba didn't answer. It wasn't something he wanted to think about at the moment.
Honda took the que and slipped quietly out the door to find everyone, but his parents and a few
cops, had disapeared.
"Where is everyone?" he asked.
"When Yugi got here they went in to see Ryuuji." his mother answered.
"If you wouldn't mind coming back into your room," the new detective said, "I'd like to
speak with you... and your parents."
"S-sure...", Damn it.
Sieg had been healing nicely. Taking it easy in a home his family owned in America, as far
away as possible from the excitement as requested by Leon for his brother's health when
Leon recived the news.
"What?! Who?! Why?!" shattered Sieg's moment, and nearly the glass of wine he was enjoying,
ordering his butler to wheel him in the direction of the questioning.
"What is it, Leon?" he demanded, waving the butler away and reaching for the phone, "Hello?!
What is..." Leon watched his brother's lips curl into a sick sneer, "Really? Well that's too
bad, isn't it...?"
"Brother, that wasn't the..." Leon became visibly upset. Sieg raised his hand to shush him.
"Well, give my reguards." he finished and hung up the phone, "Well, what goes around comes around
they say..." he said nonchalantly, sending a slight sting through Leon. He knew his brother was
cold, but this?
"I admit, I wanted nothing more than to take Herr Kaiba out myself, but two wrongs..."
"Speaking of comes around..." he ignored his little brother, "Would you mind taking me back
outside, it was so nice..."
"What about Herr Otogi?! He had..."
"Who cares..."
"?!"
"I'm sorry, little brother.", Sorry I had nothing to do with it., he waved his hand around,
silently ordering Leon to wheel him back.
Leon, a bit taken aback by his brother's attitude, blindly obeyed.
"Don't worry, we'll get him another day." he had either taken Leon's concern
as being for their slight defeat, or had not listened to a word he tried to say to begin with.
"I'm not through with him."
"He was easy enough to catch of course," the detctive assured, "Man had no fear..."
"Why would he do something like this?!" Honda's mother sobbed.
"Sick man. All his victims..."
"All?" Honda, and his father, asked.
The detective explained how they had tried to hide him, but it was difficult and some students
saw. Word spread and as things died down, several students, anonymously, came forward.
"They all had some things in common; bad grades, attitudes..."
Honda's parents glared at him.
"My grades and attitude are fine!" he defended.
"Anyway," the detective interrupted before a war errupted, "They all had something to hide
from parents and he used it to his advantage."
"But, I had nothing to hide..." Honda said softly.
"This will be kept quiet, right?" his father asked, "It's embarassing enough..."
Honda shot a gaze his father could have sworn he could feel right between his eyes.
"Embarassing?" he snarled.
"Yes, it's embarassing! Your mother hiding things from me, my coworkers hiding things..."
"How is it possible to hide things like that?" the detective wondered aloud.
"Please, don't..." his mother pleaded calmly.
"I know my son is gay! I know he's "married", it's embarassing enough! Now this?!" it was all
coming out now.
"Get out. All of you." was the quiet, refrained request from the other end of the room.
"Hiroto..." his mother went to approach him when he lashed around, one of the crutches
nearly missing her.
"Get out!" he roared, throwing said crutch across the room.
His father quickly grabbed his wife out of the way, throwing her to the detective who quickly
pulled her out of the room.
The two stared eachother down.
"Real cute, Hiroto..."
"You like that? I have more..."
"Keep it up..." he warned, feeling a vein about to pop.
"Yea, I call that one 'Ode to my Father'!"
"What?", he was too hurt to notice if the vein had popped, "How could you... that was so
long..."
"Leave me alone."
Without looking back, he huffed out passed his wife.
"??"
"I'll be in the car when you're ready." he said in passing.
"..." she made a quick bow to the detective, nodded toward Honda's friends who had heard the
commotion, and walk-jogged after her husband.
None, but Jounouchi, knew what to think.
Damn it, you two. You were doing so well...
to blow his top at Honda.
