Chapter 10: Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon
Pegasus had promised to restore Mokuba’s soul if he dueled and defeated Yugi. Kaiba knew that Pegasus knew Yugi was his slave, he had been at the auction, Kaiba had beaten him there, winning Yugi as his own. But there was much more at stake than that. His brother and his company were also at stake.
Yugi and the others escaped the tunnels and where ready to enter the castle now they had enough star ships to get in. Unfortunately at the door stood his Master and he was not about to move. Yugi asked anyway.
“You may have won enough star chips to qualify for the Duelist Kingdom playoffs, Yugi. But I can’t allow you to face Pegasus, he’s mine. You and I are going to have one final duel, you will lose and I will win. The winds of change are blowing, Yugi Mutou.” He had wanted this duel even if he didn’t like being forced into it.
Yugi however, did not want to duel his Master again. Kaiba bullied him by calling him a coward, he was surprised to see that Joey had also qualified and teased him too. He wanted Yugi because it still ate at him that he had been defeated at all, let alone by his own slave. He still didn’t understand how he had done it. Now of course, he no longer had Exodia to aid him. He was ready to face him now, and he would do it for his brother.
The spirit inside Yugi accepted the duel and he was led to the top of Pegasus’s castle. Bandit Keith arrived and decided to check out his competition. Kaiba pulled out his duel disk system as he and Yugi got down to their duel. This Yugi did not see a Master before him, just an opponent, and it was the same for Kaiba.
“All right, are you ready to duel Kaiba,” he said confidently.
“This is it Yugi, whoever wins faces Pegasus and whoever loses, well, you’ll be left a broken man.”
“We’ll see who gets broken, Kaiba. I will defeat you once and for all.”
And the duel began. Kaiba was impressed and admitted Yugi was a talented duelist, but he also said he was not as good as he was. He was so sure he would be the one to face Pegasus. He had to be. And as they went on he told Yugi he was predictable, and set out to prove it. Yugi surprised him, but then he had something hidden from Yugi and he could not wait to use it against him.
Still Yugi suspected something was up, Kaiba usual toyed with his opponents, he wondered what he was up to. He forced Kaiba to show his hand and was surprised to see a Blue Eyes White Dragon already in his hand, and yet he had not used it against him. He was confused and yet fought back. Kaiba tried to taunt him, and also decided to pull out his Crush card. Again he was confusing Yugi who knew he could beat the card he put out, which he attacked only to have the realization that he had been tricked. With the Crush card he lost all but his weakest cards in his deck, all those weaker than 1500 were all he had left. Kaiba was even more confident that he was unbeatable, that he had even more ways to hurt Yugi. Yugi was not about to give up either, he had to get defensive.
Kaiba had two Blue Eyes in his hand, but he did not use it, he had his plan to look forward to. He laughed at Yugi trying to force him to give up, but Yugi remembered he had his grandfather to fight for. He got a hand up with a weak card in combo.
Unknown to him Kaiba drew his third Dragon, then after strengthening his Life Points, drew one of his Blue Eyes and destroyed Yugi’s last advantage. Yugi defended yet again, but Kaiba got Polymerization and set his plan in motion, creating with his three dragons the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon certain that he was not able to be beaten.
Yugi could see that he was cornered, but he still would not give up. His defense was again destroyed by the Ultimate dragon and Kaiba tried to force him to concede. His friends were on his side too, reminding him of his commitment to save his grandfather. Kaiba was glad he did not give up too, he wanted to take him out fighting, it was better that way.
Then Yugi announced that he had drawn the card to save him, Kuriboh. Kaiba was not impressed by the weakest card in the game, and he said so. But this time Yugi was confident that he could destroy Kaiba’s Ultimate Dragon. He combined Kuriboh with Multiply. The Dragon attacked, but they continued to multiply. Yugi announced he was about to attack with a combo, taking the Dragon down little by little while protected by his little Kuriboh’s.
Kaiba could see that Yugi had found a way to rescue himself from defeat. Kaiba could not lose; he had to save his brother. He attacked, for nothing.
“No, I will not, cannot be defeated,” he said and attacked again, but the Kuriboh’s multiplied again.
Yugi was winning and he knew it. Kaiba was seeing that too, he could not lose his beloved brother. He had made a promise, he could not break it. There had to be a way to save him.
Yugi drew a card that would harm the Dragon and attacked. Still he had some Life Points left.
Then he had it, it was a gamble, but he would do it to save his brother. “Yugi. It can’t end this way. If I don’t defeat you in this duel, Pegasus will keep Mokuba prisoner, forever. I can’t let that happen and even though I don’t have a card that can keep you from attacking, I think I still have a strategy that will stop you in your tracks.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m going to force your hand and win this battle, Yugi.” And he began to back up until he was standing on the edge of the wall; there was a long fall to the ground. It would kill him.
“Kaiba, stop this!”
“Your move Yugi. You can attack my Blue Eyes again and wipe out my remaining Life Points, but if you do the resulting shock waves might cause me to lose my balance.”
“Don’t tempt me,” said Yugi.
“My fate is completely in your hands Yugi. You’ll decide this duel one way or another. Of course if you don’t surrender I might be hurt, you wouldn’t want that, would you?”
His friends thought he was bluffing and that was Kaiba’s plan. He would force Yugi to surrender.
But Yugi had his grandfather to rescue, he had to get in the castle, he had to win too. However, Kaiba was willing to risk anything to do it. He was sure he had the advantage. He drew a card and was able to restore one of his Blue Eyes Dragon’s. Still Yugi had his turn to attack and destroy the Dragon, the damage might knock Kaiba off the wall.
Within Yugi the spirit was not about to give up on Yugi’s grandfather. But Yugi himself could not hurt his Master, could not hurt another human being. The spirit set off the attack but at the last minute Yugi won ending the attack. He collapsed in tears, he was afraid that he had very nearly destroyed another person.
Kaiba attacked and won the duel. He knew his slave would not hurt him in the end, there was too much at stake. And it would have been worse still if he as a slave harmed his Master.
But Yugi wasn’t thinking of anything like that. He was afraid of the spirit inside him now, he was afraid the spirit would harm others, and he couldn’t let that happen. He vowed never to duel again. He had lost everything. He had lost his grandfather, and he doubted Kaiba would keep him after what he had forced his Master to do. He was a worthless slave and there was nothing he could do about that now.
