Sweet Serenade

*~* Finally edited! (I hope). Also, [[ words in between]] = a thought ^_^ *~*

Disclaimer: The only things I own are the things that I buy. Yu-Gi-Oh not being one of them *sobs*. I also don’t own any of the songs mentioned and those who sing them, including Gackt (although I wish I did ^_-).

Yami: *whack* don’t even think about it.

D-Chan: Think about what? *giggles* *whispers* don’t mind him, he’s what you’d call, the jealous type.

Yami: I heard that. -_-*

D-Chan: *giggles* ^_^ Anyway, this is my first fanfic, or at least the first I’ve actually finished. I have so

many fics in my head that it’s not even funny

Yami: Actually, it is kinda funny.

D-Chan: ^_^ Yea it . . . what!?

Yami: I said, it’s . . .

D-Chan: *whack* No who’s the one laughin!? *laughs*

Yami: This is getting a bit abusive.

D-Chan: Awe, is Yami hurtin? Me make you feel better! *kisses boo boo*

Yami: I’d actually feel better if you kiss me somewhere else.

D-Chan: *whack* Pervert! I’m not that kind of girl!

Yami: I didn’t mean there!

D-Chan: I know, it’s just funny to think that you did ^_^

Yami: Oh brother.

D-Chan: *laughs* Anyway, this is a YamiXKaiba pairing. No, on to the fic!

Sweet Serenade

Day 1

Yugi, Tea, Tristen and Joey were all sitting around Yugi’s desk in their class. Since

Yugi didn’t want Yami to listen to this particular conversation, he blocked him out.

“I thought I was the only one who noticed!” exclaimed Yugi.

“Nope. We’ve all noticed” said Tea.

“For how long?” said Yugi, looking up at Tea.

“Since the first time they saw each other,” the others turned to see Joey talking, “at least that’s how long

I’ve noticed.”

“I think it’s sweet! Yami and Kaiba having feelings for each other and not even knowing it!” said Tea with

starry eyes.

Yugi stood up from his chair. Determination was filled in his eyes. “We’ve got to do something! If they won’t,

then we will!”

“Good idea Yuge!”

“Yea, well help!” said Tristen.

“We’ll do whatever it takes to help!” said Tea.

“Great! Thanks guys!”

“No problem. How exactly do we get them together?”

“I think I may have an idea,” said Yugi. “First, I need to find out if they really do feel something. I rather

have them tell me instead of us just assuming. I’ll let you guys know what I find out.”

“What do we do if they admit it?” said Tea.

“Well, then we have to find a way for them to tell each other. Having it comes from us isn’t the same.”

“Then how about we set them up on a date?” said Joey.

“Good idea Joey! But they can’t know that their dating each other. It’ll just make them object to going,” said

Yugi.

“Then how about a blind date?” said Tristen.

“Hmm . . . once they see each other, then they might not talk the whole night. They’d feel awkward around

each other. As a matter of fact . . . they might not even stay for the date,” said Yugi.

“Then the only other option is . . . . .a double date!” said Tea.

“That’s not a bad idea!”

“Yea! We’ll set each of ‘em up wit someone else. Then their dates will sneak out the place witout ‘em

knowin. That way they can talk witout feelin weird!”

“Makes sense,” said Tristen.

“All right,” Yugi looked at Tristen. “Tristen, you’ll be in charge of finding Kaiba’s date. It has to be a girl

though.”

Tristen smiled and responded, “All right.”

“Tea,” said Yugi, as she looked directly at him once he called her. “You can pretend to be Yami’s date.”

“Sure. No problem,” said Tea with a smile.

“What do I do Yuge?”

All of them looked at Joey with a puzzled look. Then they turned to look at each other.

“Well . . .” said Yugi, “You . . . can . . . try not to act suspiciously around them or else they’d know what’s

going on.”

“I’ve already been doin that. Anything I can do with your plan?”

Joey was clearly hinting that he wanted to be a part of it. Everyone was able to tell, but they couldn’t let it be

a part of it for fear that he might ruin the plan somehow, as he normally does.

“Uh . . . . . that IS part of the job Joey,” said Yugi while putting a smile on to hide the fact that he doesn’t

really need Joey for his plan.

Yugi didn’t hide what he was thinking too well, since the look Joey had on his face clearly said that he’s upset

that he won’t be able to help.

“All right,” Joey said in a low tone as he stared at the ground.

“I’m sorry Joey, I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” Yugi said.

“Don’t worry ‘bout it.”

Although Yugi felt guilty, he couldn’t allow this plan to get screwed up.

“You know, Yugi, we still haven’t decided where they’re going for their date.”

Yugi looked at Tristen and realized he was right. Then a smile rose across his face. Excitement overpowered

the shorter teen.

“You’re right, Tristen!” Then he looked behind him to talk to Joey. “Hey, Joey! I know what you can do!”

Joey was curious as to what that would be, but he also has his doubts. Whatever he has to do is probably

something stupid, he thought.

“Oh really. I hope it’s not as complicated as the last task you asked me to do.”

Yugi laughed at Joey’s sarcastic comment. His laughter broke Joey’s anger and made Joey smile, even

though he didn’t want to.

“Don’t be silly, Joey. I’m sure you’ll like this task.”

Yugi’s laughter began to die down, but his smile remained.

“In that case, what is it?”

“You can decide where they go on their date.”

“You mean it Yugi?”

“Yup!”

“ANY place goes?”

“Uh . . . . sure! ANYWHERE.” [[Why dget get the feeling that I just made a big mistake by telling him that?]]

“Great!” After thinking for a couple of minutes, he thought of the perfect setting. “The place I choose is . . .

a karaoke bar!”

Hearing Joey say that made everyone burst out in laughter, believing that he was just joking.

“Joey stop playing around!” said Tristen.

“ Who said I was joking? And what’s wrong wit that place?”

“It’ll be hard for them to talk if people are constantly singing,” said Tea.

“No it won’t. If anything, it’ll make it easier for ‘em to talk.”

“What do you mean Joey?” said Yugi.

“Think about it. If they don’t know what to talk about, then at least the bad voices of the people singing will

give ‘em somethin to talk about. The next thing ya know, they’ll be smillin and laughin wit each other.

Before they know it, they won’t feel weird and they would feel more comfortable around each other.”

“You’re right,” said Tea. “We can go tomorrow night, since we don’t have school the next day.”

“In that case, karaoke bar it is!” said Yugi.

The excitement of executing the plan made them forget that they were still in school. They cheered out loud

and were immediately silenced by their teacher. They calmed down in embarrassment. Then the bell rang.

Once they walked outside the school they began to turn in the direction that they walk home. The direction

Joey walks is the opposite direction of everyone else. Yugi stopped when something suddenly occurred to

him.

“Has anyone seen Kaiba today?”

“Nope. I don’t think he came to school today or else I would’ve seen him in my class,” said Tristen.

“Oh. In that case, I won’t ble ble to walk with you guys today. I have to stop by Kaiba’s house.”

“That’s ok,” said Tea.

“I just hope Kaiba admits he likes Yami,” said Tristen.

“Me too.”

“I guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow then,” said Tea.

“Yea, see ya,” said Tristen.

“Bye guys!” said Yugi while waving at them.

“See ya tomorrow then!” said Joey.

Tea and Tristen were already walking. When they heard Yugi and Joey, they waved to them from the

distance.

Joey looked at Yugi. “I guess I should be goin' home to. You know how my dad gets if he sees I’m not

home as soon as school is over.”

Yugi turned around to see Joey. The look in Yugi’s eyes indicated that he was disappointed that Joey

couldn’t come with him. “Sure. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

Joey was saddened bye the expression on Yugi’s face. Yugi tightly gripped the straps of his backpack and

stared at the ground. Joey let out a sigh. Then Joey moved closer to Yugi, bent down, and softly pressed his

lips against Yugi's. Yugi’s grip loosened as he gave into the bewildering kiss. The color of his cheeks went

from honey to a deep crimson. Joey stopped the kiss and whispered into Yugi’s ear.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Angel.”

Hearing Joey’s voice made Yugi bite his lower lip and smile. Hearing Joey call him Angel made his smile grow

even more. Then Yugi whispered back to Joey.

“See you . . . . Inu.”

Joey pulled away from Yugi and made anger grow within him.

“Ya know I hate to be called that, Yuge.”

Yugi laughed at Joey’s reaction. “I know. I just wanted to see how you’d react.” Yugi began to laugh harder.

Joey smiled and sighed. “Funny how the little things make you laugh. I guess it doesn’t take much to amuse

ya.”

Yugi’s laughter slowly faded away. “I guess not. I think it’s good when someone can be so easily amused.”

“I guess.” Hating what he was going to say, Joey’s smile disappeared. “I gotta go Yuge.”

Yugi stopped laughing completely, but kept on his smile. “Ok Joey. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Ditto.” Joey smiled and kissed Yugi's cheek and turned around. He waved to Yugi while walking away.

The walk from Domino High to Kaiba’s house is longer than if he was to walk home, so he decided to talk to

Yami on the way. Yugi stopped blocking Yami and Yami began to speak mentally to Yugi.

// Yugi, why did you block me out for so long? //

/ Sorry Yami, but, I can’t tell you. I promise you’ll find out soon. /

Yami sighed. // Very well. // Yami paused to see the surrounding area. // You don’t normally walk home

this way. Where are you going? //

/I . . . can’t tell you that either./

Yami sighed deeper. // If you won’t talk to me, then I guess I should stop asking questions . . . //

/No wait, Yami. I’ll talk, but I can’t answer those particular questions. Sorry. /

// It’s ok. You don’t have to answer them. It’s just that, you don’t normally keep things from me. //

/ I know, but there’s a reason for that. Actually, you’ll find out sooner if you answer a question I have. /

// Before I do, you have to answer mine. It’s only fair I get to ask at least one that you can answer. //

/ You’re right. What do you want to know? /

// I want to know . . . how you knew you had feelings for Joey before you told him. //

Yugi raised an eyebrow and smirked, curious as to why he wanted to know, yet having an idea of why he

asked. / Well . . . at first I wasn’t sure of what I felt. I found myself constantly thinking about him, how

happy I was when I saw or was around him, and how sad I was when he wasn’t near. It made me feel

kinda.../

// Lonely. //

/ Yea. Don’t get me wrong, I have you, grandpa and the others. It’s just that . . . /

// You wanted more. //

/ I guess you can say that. I felt so nervous around him. The way I was acting around him him confused me.

It wasn’t until the dream I had that I realized why I acted so strangely. When I found out the truth, I could

hardly face him without blushing. /

// What dream? //

/ The one where Joey . . . kissed me. / Yugi blushed and smiled as he recalled the dream. / The day after

I had that dream, I couldn’t stop daydreaming about what it would be like to be wrapped in Joey’s arms.

Everyone but me noticed the look on my face whenever I did. They said I had a dazed look and that I was

blushing. /

//Oh. //

/ Did I answer your question? /

// Yes. Thank you. //

/ No problem. Why did you want to know? /

// No reason. // There was a pause between them for a few minutes until Yami spoke again. // What did

you want to ask me before? //

/ Oh right. I wanted to know if you have feelings for anyone we know. /

// Why do you ask? //

/ Because if you do, then I think I have an idea of whom. /

// If I do have feelings for someone, who do you think it is? //

/ Kaiba. / Yugi was able to sense shock and happiness from Yami. Yugi knew that he was right about the way

Yami feels but felt that he should ask Yami just to make sure. / Am I right? /

// If I told you, then you might not believe me. As a matter of fact, I should just let go of what I feel . . . //

/ What you feel? /

// I mean . . . I . . . //

/ So you do feel something! /

There was a brief pause between the two before Yami let out a deep sigh and prepared himself for what he

was about to say. // I won’t lie to you. I . . . have feelings for Kaiba. I have for a long time now. //

/Why don’t you tell him? /

//Because I’m scared.//

/Scared of what? /

//Of . . . never mind. //

/ Why do you want to let go of your feelings for Kaiba? /

// Because I feel that it’s impossible for me to be in a relationship with him. //

/Why? Is it because we share a body? /

// No. There are a few times when I can actually create a body of my own. It requires a lot of strength and it

doesn’t last that long. //

/Why have you never done that before? /

//I’ve never had to. //

When Yugi realized that he was only a few blocks away from Kaiba’s house, he apologized to Yami and

blocked him out. He couldn’t have him figuring out where he was going and why he was going there. He

quickened his pace and headed towards Kaiba’s house.

Once he got there, he was stopped by gigantic iron gates that were as tall as trees (D-Chan: I don’t know if

Kaiba’s place actually has gates, but I don’t care. I just felt like describing them, so I included it! Hope you

don’t mind ^_^). To the left of the gates was a call button. He walked up to the button, held it down, and

asked to speak to Kaiba. The voice on the receiving end was thankfully a familiar one. Mokuba replied by

saying that it’s ok for him to come in and opening the gates by some kind of remote control that lied inside

the colossal premises. Yugi carefully walked passed the gates and stopped in front of double doors that were

almost as tall as the gates themselves.

The door slowly opened. Expecting a tall assistant to open the door, he immediately looked up. He was

relieved to stare straight ahead and see someone of his equal stature.

“Hi Mokuba. Is Kaiba here?”

“Hey Yugi! Come on in. I’ll take you to him.”

“Thanks.”

Yugi walked inside as he heard the door close behind him. Mokuba walked in front of him as Yugi followed,

careful not to loose him. Yugi looked around in awe as he was mesmerized by how massive a place can

really be. Mokuba and Yugi stopped when they reached the door to Kaiba’s office.

“Before you come in, let me tell him you’re here.”

“Ok. And if he asks, tell him that what I need to say is important.”

“You got it.”

Mokuba knocked on the door. Then he heard a voice shouting from the other side of the door.

“Who is it?”

“Oniisan, it’s Mokuba.”

“Come in.”

Mokuba turned the door knob and slowly opened the door with enough room for him to poke his head

through. He saw Kaiba continuously typing on his computer without loosing focus. He didn’t even look at the

door when Mokuba opened it.

“Seto, Yugi’s here to see you.”

“I’m busy. Tell him I can’t talk.”

“He said it’s important.”

Kaiba let out a deep sigh that showed that he didn’t want to be bothered.

“Fine. Let him in.”

Mokuba opened the door some more and Yugi walked in. Then he walked out the office, closing the door

behind him. Since he was bored, he decided to stay outside the door and find out what was so important that

Yugi needed to talk about. Yugi sat on a couch that was against the wall. He sat straight at the edge of the

couch while staring at the floor. Kaiba stood up and sat on the couch next to Yugi.

“You better make this quick, I have a lot of work to do.”

“Is that why you weren’t at school today?”

Kaiba nodded. “What is it that you want?”

“I wanted to talk to you about...Yami.”

“Yami? Who’s that?”

“Right, you don’t know his name. Yami is the spirit of the puzzle. The one that normally comes out whenever

I need help.”

Kaiba began to think back to when he first saw him come out of the puzzle and knew that what Yugi said

made sense to him.

“I didn’t realize there were two of you, let alone that you both go by a different name. I thought you just

went through some weird kind of temporary growth spurt.”

Yugi looked at Kaiba and laughed at his comment.

“Nope, there are definitely two of us. We just share a body, since he’s basically just a spirit.”

Kaiba was secretly relieved to hear that the other side of Yugi is an actual person. And now he was glad to

hear that this “spirit” has a name.

“What is it about Yami that you need to talk about?”

“I don’t know any other way of asking, so I’m just going to ask the only way I know.”

Yugi stared back at the ground and became more nervous. Kaiba’s curiosity was showing through his face.

“What is it?”

“Do you...have feelings for Yami?”

Kaiba’s eyes widened. He sprung up from the couch and stared at Yugi. The anger and shock he felt inside

was expressed through the soundhis his voice.

“So I guess I’m not the only one who noticed,” Mokuba said to himself.

“WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ASKING ME THIS!?”

“I have my reasons.”

“What are they!? Tell me Yugi!!”

Yugi looked at Kaiba. “If I do then you’d only yell and tell me that I’m lying.”

“I . . .”

Kaiba knew that Yugi was right, so he tried to control his anger. He spoke again with a softer tone than

before.

“I need to know why you’re asking me. Questions like this don’t randomly come up on someone’s mind. It’s

a type of question that they think about for a long time before they work up enough courage to ask. Please

tell me.”

[[How did he know that?]] “I guess you have the right to know. Lately, whenever Yami came out of the

puzzle to help me, you’ve been a little . . . nicer to Yami.”

“What do you mean by that?” Kaiba’s anger was slowly coming back but he stopped himself from showing it

until Yugi explained what he meant.

“Like when you helped him during the Battle City Tournament. You helped him find our friends. You even

dueled as a team.”

“I had no choice. I wanted to duel him and I needed to find Mokuba.”

Yugi grinned. “Are those the only reasons you helped him?”

“What do you mean?”

“Yami would’ve dueled you whether or not you helped him. You even helped him after you found out that

Mokuba escaped. You didn’t have to help him Kaiba.”

[[Damn, he’s right. I can’t let him know that.]] “I . . . I wanted to duel him as soon as I could since we each

had enough locator cards to qualify. Your missing friends were preventing that from happening. Personally, I

don’t understand why those fools need constant rescuing.”

“Those fools are my friends Kaiba.”

“Whatever.”

“Are you sure that your desire to duel Yami was your only motivation for helping him?”

“Positive.”

Yugi’s grin grew wider. “Whatever you say, Kaiba.”

[[I don’t like the look he’s giving me.]] “Is that the only reason you thought I like him?”

“Well, I’ve also noticed that you look and act somewhat different around Yami than when you're around me

and the others.”

“Different? How?”

“Normally, your eyes can look as cold as ice, but whenever you’re around him, your eyes seem warmer.”

Kaiba looked away from Yugi and stared at the ground.

“Sometimes, your cheeks even turn a slight pink and you get a dazed look as well.” [[The same way I got

after that dream I had of Joey.]]

Kaiba’s mind went blank. He didn’t know what to think.

“That’s ridiculous. I never get like that.”

“Yes you do.”

“Stop lying! I don’t!!”

Yugi sighed. [[I knew he couldn’t resist telling me that. That’s probably why he didn’t get mad for me saying

that he’d call me a liar.]]

Kaiba continued to protest. “I don’t care what people keep telling me! I DON’T have feelings for Yami!!”

Yugi’s eyes widened as he stood up and stared at Kaiba. “Kaiba, are you saying that someone else asked

you if you felt anything!?”

Excitement was quickly developing within Yugi. Kaiba became nervous, though he'd never show it. His heart

was racing so fast that it could’ve won a marathon.

“I’ve talked about this subject before . . . with Mokuba. He asked me the same thing you did.”

“What did you tell him?”

Kaiba’s cheeks turned a slight pink as he stared at the ground. He tried to calm down so he can answer. “I

told him that IF I do feel something, then I’m not sure how strong the feelings are. Also, I’m not sure

whether to accept it or cast it aside.”

“Why would you cast it aside?”

“Because . . . I'm afraid of . . .”

“Afraid of what?”

“Nothing. Forget I said anything. Did I answer your question?”

“Yes.”

“Good. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do.”

“You work too much Kaiba.”

Kaiba sighed. “I know.”

“You know, if you want to take a break, some people are going to a karaoke bar tomorrow night. If you want

to go, I can give you the info tonight.”

“Thanks, but I rather not waste my free time that way.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. But, in case I change my mind, whose going?”

“Well, Tristen said he’d get you a date . . .”

“I thought you guys were hanging out, not dating.”

“We were all going with dates, but some of us can’t make it.”

“So who is going?”

“Besides your date, Tea and Yami are going.”

“You mean you/Yami and Tea, right?”

“No, just Yami. I have to help my grandpa with the game shop.”

“How can Yami go without you? Didn’t you tell me that you guys share a body?”

“We do, sort of. When Yami comes out of the puzzle, my body becomes his body, but Yami told me that

there are a few times when he can make a body of his own.”

A small grin rose on Kaiba’s face. [[I can use that to my advantage.]]

“So, will you be able to go?”

“Fine, I’ll go.”

“Great! I’ll tell the others. Call me tonight and I’ll tell you what you need to know.”

“Fine. I'lll call at 11. That’s when I get off work.”

“Ok. I guess I better go now.”

“I’ll have someone drive you home.”

“Thanks Kaiba.”

As Yugi approached the door, Mokuba tried to find a place to hide. As so as he attempted to open the closet

door, Yugi walked out and saw Mokuba. Realizing that Mokuba was there the whole time, he smiled.

“Hey Mokuba.”

“Hey Yugi,” he said nervously. Knowing that Yugi wasn’t mad at him for listening, he let out a deep sigh. [[I

hope Seto feels the same way Yugi does.]] He looked up at Kaiba to see that he was furious. Mokuba grew

more nervous and froze. [[Guess not!]] “Seto, let me get someone to drive Yugi home.” He immediately

turned around and rushed down the hall before Kaiba can say anything.

“You really don’t have to give me a ride home. It’s still light out. I can walk.”

“The walk is pretty far. You might as well be driven there.”

“If you say so. Thanks.”

“You already said that.”

“Oh, sorry.”

Then there was a pause between the two.

“You’re welcome.” Yugi smiled at Kaiba.

“Seto, I found someone,” Mokuba shouted while approaching them. Once he and the driver stopped in front

of them, Kaiba looked to see who it was.

“Is he new here?”

“Yea, He’s the only person that’s not busy right now.”

“Fine.” Kaiba pulled out a pair of keys from his pocket. “Here. Take Yugi to his house.”

“Yes Seto.”

“What did you call me!?”

“Uh . . . I mean . . . master Kaiba. I’m sorry, it’ll never happen again! I promise!”

“It better not, or else you’re going back to ... wherever it is you came from!”

“Please sir! Anywhere but there!”

“In that case, you better not make any more mistakes.”

“You have my word! It won’t happen again!”

“Good.”

The new assistant nodded at Yugi, telling him to follow him to the car. Yugi nodded back and said good-bye

to Kaiba and Mokuba.

“Just out of curiosity, where exactly did the new assistant come from?” said Kaiba.

“I have no Idea,” said Mokuba.

“Oh well.”

“Seto, why did you get so mad when he called you by your first name?”

“Because I only let those who I care about call me Seto.”

“I see. And just how many people is that?”

“So far, one. You. But there is someone else I think I wouldn’t mind letting them call me Seto.”

“Who?”

“I can’t tell you that yet. I need to get back to work now.”

“Before you do, I just want you to know that... if you denying you feelings to help you stop suffering, then

it’ll only cause more pain and keeps you trapped. Only when you admit and accept how you feel shall the

weight be lifted off your shoulders so you can be free from all the burden.”

“That’s pretty deep. Did you just make it up?”

“Nope. It was in the fortune cookie you gave me.”

Both of them began to laugh.

“I have some video games that are calling out to me, so I’m gonna go.” Mokuba began to walk down the

hall and shouted, “Have fun on your date with Yami tomorrow!”

“I’m not going on a date with Yami! I’m just taking a break!”

“Yea right!”

Kaiba couldn’t help but laugh. He walked into his office and went back to work.

~ * ~

It was near closing time, so Yugi decided to help his grandpa clean up before closing time, even though his

grandpa had already locked the door. Just when Yugi grabbed the broom, the phone rang.

“Kame Game Shop, can I help you?”

“Hey Yuge, it’s Joey.”

“Joey! How are you?”

“Fine. I just wanted to know if I can sleep over today. My old man’s givin me some problems . . .”

“Let me ask grandpa.”

“Did you call me Yugi?”

Yugi covered the phone. “Yea, Joey’s having problems with his dad, so can he sleep over tonight?”

“I don’t see why not.”

“Thanks grandpa!” He uncovered the phone and spoke. “Joey? He sad you can sleep over.”

“Great! I’ll be there soon.”

“Ok. Bye.”

“See ya.”

Yugi grabbed a piece of paper and scribbled something on it and handed the paper to his grandpa.

“What’s this?”

“In case Kaiba calls tonight, can you give him this information?

“When will he be calling?”

“Around 11.”

“I’ll tell him as soon as he calls.”

“Thanks grandpa.”

Both of them turned when they heard a knock at the door. Yugi’s grandpa unlocked the door and Joey

walked into the game shop. He was carrying a duffle bag that looked like it was about to burst along with

some other belongings of his.

“Hello Joey.”

“Hey gramps. So . . . where do I sleep?”

“Since the living room’s a bit of a mess, Yugi will sleep in my room you you can take his room.”

“Sure thing gramps.”

By the tone of Joey’s voice and the look on both Joey and Yugi’s faces, it was obvious that they were

disappointed. Both of them kept looking at each other and at Yugi’s grandpa, hoping that he would change

his mind. Joey needed Yugi’s support for whatever it was he wanted to tell him. He mentally cursed the

ominous wall that prevented him from being with Yugi. Yugi’s grandpa expected both of them to react this

way.

“I’m only kidding. You can share a room with Yugi, unless you don’t want too. . .”

“No, that’s ok gramps. I’ll share with Yugi.”

Joey rushed to Yugi and pulled him up the stairs by his wrists as fast as he could before Yugi’s grandpa

decides to change his mind.

“Don’t stay up too late, you two still have to go to school tomorrow!”

“We won’t grandpa! Good night!”

“Uh yea, g’night gramps.”

“Good night you two.” Then he smiled and went back to cleaning.

When they made it to Yugi's room, they immediately sat on his bed to rest and catch their breath.

“Why’d you bring me up so fast Joey?”

“Do you wanna know how I got here so fast and why I have so much stuff with me?”

“Well, I was wondering about that.”

“I called you from a payphone a few blocks from here. The truth is . . . I ran away.”

“You what!? Why!?”

“Because of my dad. I can’t stand livin there no more. He’s drivin me crazy! I had to get out.”

“Did you just decide to run away all of a sudden?”

“Actually, I had my stuff packed up for a few days now. I didn’t wanna leave ‘im behind, but I don’t have that

much patience either.”

Yugi crossed his legs and looked down while speakin in a weak tone. “I’m sorry Joey. I didn’t know you were

suffering so much. I just wish there was something I can do.”

Joey put his arm around Yugi. “Forget about it Yuge, it’s not your fault. I’m actually glad I left, so don’t worry

bout me.”

He held Yugi closer as Yugi rested his head on Joey’s chest.

“Hey, Yuge, did ya get the chance to talk to Kaiba?”

“Yea.”

“What did he say?”

“He said he’ll go, but he told me he’d call to confirm it. I gave grandpa the info he needs in case he calls.”

“Oh, all right.”

“There’s something I don’t understand though.”

“What is it?”

“When I spoke to Yami and Kaiba, the both of them said that they’re afraid of something. I can’t figure out

what is is they’re afraid of.”

“Maybe they’re afraid of each other.”

Both of them began to laugh. “I don’t think that’s what they’re afraid of.”

“I know, but I’d be funny if that was the case.”

“It would.” After a brief pause, Yugi shot his head up as if he was struck with an idea. “I got it!”

“Got what?”

“I think that one feels that the other one shouldn’t feel that way and that it’s weird that the other one feels

the way they do! Wait, that can’t be it.”

“What?”

“Wait! It’s gotta be that one is afraid to tell the other how they feel because they’re afraid the other might

not feel the same or might hate the other for it despite the fact that they might have an idea or they actually

are positive that the other really feels something! That’s gotta be it!”

“Huh? I’m not followin ya Yuge.”

“They’re afraid of rejection Joey.”

“Oh, yea, I knew dat.”

Yugi smiled at Joey. “Of course you did Joey.”

Joey smirked. “Whatta you tryin to say?”

“Nothing. It’s obvious that you understand EVERYTHING and you’re never confused about a thing.”

“Ya tryin ta be smart wit me?”

“Of course not.”

“I’ll show you smart!”

Joey grinned as he slowly raised his hands and wiggled his fingers. Yugi saw his hands and knew

immediately what Joey was planning to do.

“Wait! Don’t do it Joey!”

“Too bad, I’m gonna!”

“No ---- !”

Joey charged at Yugi and began to tickle him. Yugi began to laugh hysterically. Normally, he would use all

his strength to try and stop Joey, but he figured that he’d let him have his fun so that he doesn’t worry about

running away. Plus, it was making Yugi happy too. After a while, his stomach began to hurt from laughing so

much.

“Joey . . . please . . . stop . . .”

“All right.”

In an instant, Joey quickly stopped tickling him. Yugi felt like a part of him was ripped away when he

stopped. He didn’t realize just how happy that he felt when Joey was tickling. He didn’t actually mean for

Joey to stop. As a matter of fact, Joey rarely stops when Yugi asks him to.

“Why’d you stop?”

“You told me to.”

“I didn’t mean it.”

Joey smiled. “I know. I just wanted to see you’re reaction.”

Yugi smiled. Joey pressed his mouth firmly against Yugi’s. Yugi parted his lips, gladly allowing Joey’s tongue

to devour his own. He wrapped his arms around Joey’s neck and interlaced his fingers in his hair. Joey placed

his hands on Yugi’s waist and slowly pushed him onto the pillows. Then Yugi quickly removed Joey’s

shirt.Yugi gasped as Joey began to press gentle kisses on Yugi’s neck. He moaned when Joey put his hand

up his shirt and began to play around with one of his hard nubs. One of Joey's hands made its way to Yugi’s

pant buckle, but he was stopped by Yugi. Hardly being able to speak, he whispered softly to Joey.

“No . . . You’re the one going through problems. It should be the other way around.”

Since he didn’t feeling like protesting, Joey allowed him do what he wanted. Yugi unfastened Joey’s pants

and tossed it immediately. Yugi began to trail soft kisses down Joey’s chest. Joey bit down on his lower lip to

keep himself from screaming. Once Yugi kissed the spot between Joey's naval and member, they were

forced to stop when they heard a knock at the door. They immediately separated and pretended like they

were sleeping.

“Yugi, are you still awake?”

“Grandpa? What is it?” He sat up so he can see his grandpa better.

“You were sleeping? I swear I heard you laughing a few moments ago.”

“I was. I was trying to sleep now.”

“Well, I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“Not really. I’m just taking advantage of Joey.”

Joey immediately sat up. “What!?”

Yugi turned to look at Joey. “Just kidding! I wanted to see you’re reaction.”

“Guess you got me back.”

“Yup!”

“Well, I just wanted to tell you that Kaiba called and I gave him the information you gave me.”

“Ok. Thanks grandpa.”

“You’re welcome. You boys should go to sleep. It’s late.”

“We will. Good night grandpa.”

“Good night you two.”

“Good night gramps.”

He walked out and closed the door.

“Joey, where are you going to stay from now on?”

“I dunno. I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

“Maybe grandpa might let you stay here until you find a place to stay. I’ll talk to him if you want.”

“You don’t have ta do that.”

“But I want to. I’ll talk to him tomorrow.”

“All right. Thanks Yugi.”

“You’re welcome.”

“By the way . . .“

“What is it Joey?”

“I just wanted to say . . . I love you.”

Yugi felt his heart speed up. He felt nervous at first, then warmth and comfort quickly made that feeling

disappear.

“I love you too Joey.”

Both of them smiled at each other as they continued from where they stopped when they were interrupted.
