Shards of Innocence

(A/N: This story is NOT an incest story. This is written in responce to all those stories out there, written from the viewpoint of an incest survivor.)


Mokuba restlessly turned over in bed. Sleep wasn't comming easily tonight, not that it had lately anyway. Everytime he closed his eyes, certian parts of his anatomy he prefered stayed dormant came alive. He opened his eyes and sighed. The object of his dreams lately had been his brother. The very thought of them made him cringe and feel ashamed. A soft knock on the door shook his thoughts away.

"C-Come in." His voice cracked, making him wince. A blonde head poked in then Joey, his brother's current flame, entered. "Oh, hi Joey."

"Mokuba, You've holed yourself up in your room for three days now. What's wrong? I know you are going through some tough times, but Mokuba, Seto and I want to help you. Every time we try to talk to you, you run away to you room."

"Joey, I just want to be alone, that's all. I do have the right to that don't I?" Mokuba's tone turned harsh and bitter. "I am not going to play 20 questions every fucking day!"

The use of a curse word made Joey's eyebrows raise. He looked at the boy and sighed. He knew what he was going through. He'd been through a similar situation with Serenity. Sure, it was normal for siblings to harbour feelings for each other during puberty, but in Mokuba's case, something was troubling the boy. He went over and sat down next to Mokuba and took him in his arms.

"Look, if you don't want to talk to Seto, then I'll listen. I won't tell him unless I think he needs to know."

"Joey, that's what I'm afraid of. If he finds out what I'm going through, he'll hate me." The last of what he said was cut off in a wail. Tears streamed down the younger boy's face. "Seto will hate me Joey. I can't handle it if he does."

"Mokuba, you need to talk to him. I know you think he'll hate you, but I can assure you, he won't. Seto wouldn't just give up on you just like that."

"Promise?"

Mokuba's tear streaked face peeared up at Joey. The boy had deep, dark rings around his eyes, like he hadn't slept in three months. His thin, lith body shook with depression and exaustion. Joey's heart went out to him, though he knew Mokuba didn't know it.

"Joey if you promise to that you won't tSetoSeto, I'll tell you what's bothering me. Remember when Serenity had a crush on you?"

Bingo! Joey remembered fully what he'd been through with Serenity, and was still going through. He had tried to hook her up with one of Mokuba's friends who was a grade above him, but it didn't work. Serenity had overcome her crush on Joey, and was now bugging him to fix her up with another friend of his. Joey shook his head, then smiled.

"I remember, Mokuba. I know someone who'll talk to you, unless you want to talk now."

"I do Joey, but first you must promise me you won't tell Seto."

"Mokuba, the way you are acting, I think you have a crush on your brother. I can tell you now if he found out, he'd be hurt. He wouldn't hate you, but he wouldn't be very happy. I wasn't happy about the situation with Serenity, not because it's not normal, just because I didn't see her in the same way."

Mokuba's midnight blue eyes blured with tears, and he began to sob.

"You are right, but Joey, that's not why I'm scared. I don't even like him that way's 's my b-brother. I shouldn't feel this way."

"Mokuba, I know it's hard to feel that way, but I think what's wrong is you are having feelings for males. The only male you are very close to is your brother, so you place your feelings on him. I think I'll talk to him and see what he says..." What Joey was about to say was cut short by a scream.

"NOOOO.. JOEY YOU PROMISE YO YOU cant tell him.. you cant... he'll hate me!!!"
