Toys

Short little drabble. Just to kick start me on writing again so I can finish the request for my series of break up fics. Won't make much sense but that's okay.

Marik had been thinking about things a lot lately, about Malik a lot. He had come to one conclusion. "It's sad really."

The blonde looked up from his Duel Monster cards with a sigh. "What is?"

"The random thoughts that roll around in your mind"

"Why's that?"

"Well you have random mental ramblings. I hear them and I think you're talking to me but you aren't."

"So?" He went back to slowly shuffling his deck. "Everyone does."

"Yes, but not like these."

"You know if my sister see's me talking to nobody again she'll send me back to the shrink. After all you don't exist. Remember?"

"See that's what I mean! Weird things. You know I exist. I know I exist."

"That wasn't weird."

"Okay how about the time you spent three days asking people where spit goes when you swallow?" That had been an interesting time. So many odd looks from his family.

"I still want to know the answer to that." Malik put his deck down carefully. He leaned the chair back to rest on two legs and made a show of carefully studying the ceiling of his small room. "I'm like a little kid. If I want to know something I'm going to ask about it until I get a good answer."

Marik nodded. Sure his other half couldn't see it but he could feel it. "So why am I here?"

"You're my way of dealing with emotions that I'm not comfortable with."

"Huh?"

Even white teeth worried at his lower lip. He wanted to bite down but then his sister would start to ask questions. Questions he didn't want to answer. "You're the embodiment of my smart ass-ness, the rage I'm not allowed to express, the child I was never allowed to be. At least that's what Isis and the head shrinker told me. They could be wrong though. It's been known to happen before."

Marik grinned. "So, basically, you're insane."

"Yep."

Transparent hands hovered over Malik's shoulder. "And this doesn't bother you?"

"Nope." He let the chair fall. Leaning forward, he fanned the deck across his desk and started to pick out random cards.

"Why not?"

"I always have someone to talk to." Broad shoulders lifted and dropped carelessly.

"Again with the jokes. I think it does bother you."

"I've found that in the grand scheme of life it doesn't do any good to worry. All it does is give you heartburn." He drew out a card, considered it for a moment then tossed it onto the floor with a low growl.

"And the pink bunnies?"

"Hey, those are part of your problem, not mine" He smiled at the memory of the first time Marik had seen the pink marshmallow candy before promptly declaring them evil and not in the good way. "Besides my mind is a wonderful thing."

"How do ya figure?" Marik mentally nudged his other into adding a trap card that would do wonders for their deck to the slowly growing pile.

"How many people do you know who can be amused for hours by a single thought?" That trap card, yes, this magic card but not that one. This monster was perfect. Stack the deck in his favor in case Bakura failed.

Marik tilted his head to the side. What was his other thinking?

"I figure it's healthy to have a few weird quirks. That way I never bore myself. Nothing really exciting happens in the world. Nothing that can make you stop and say I changed the way the whole world viewed the era I was alive. No one person can do that."

"But in your mind..." Marik grinned. A person may not be able to change anything but a god could.

"I can do anything I want. I can be any person I want to. Look like anyone I want to. I can be perfect in my eyes and pretend that I am in everyone else's as well." Not that his sister understood that.

"So your whole existence..."

"Is based on the toys in the attic of my mind. Do we want this card? It would be good against that damn Dark Magician."

"Talk about making the waters murkier. And no. It will make our overall deck weaker. There's nothing else we have to compliment it."

"That's why Isis said I didn't have to go back to the shrink. I think I confused him too."

"I never liked him anyway."

"Me either."

"So, it doesn't bother you that you have me in your head all the time?" Marik looked down at the other blonde. The expression on his face could have almost been called adoration. A twisted version maybe but his none the less.

"I like you." Malik nodded, mostly to himself.

"Toys in the attic of your mind." The darkness smirked. He could handle that.

"Yep, but don't worry you're fun to take out and play with now and then." Malik gathered his newly formed deck. Standing he stretched to pop his back and shoved the cards into his pocket.

No one would ever understand him. No one would ever accept him. No one except the darkness in his soul. His love and his punishment. "Let's go end this."

High above the streets below the final duels of Battle City started.
