The day had been too much for Yugi. The memories crowding him making him remember what he had lost. All he wanted to do was crawl into bed and forget. Forget that it had been one year since his Yami had left. One year devoid of the other’s friendship, kindness, loyalty, and his love. As he walked into his room his head bowed in misery he almost missed seeing the package and the letter. It was from the Ishtars. He walked over to where the package and letter stood just looking at it. He hesitated for a moment before reaching down for the letter. As he opened it and read what was inside his eyes blurred with tears. The letter told him the package had come to them about a month ago and that they had sent it on to him seeing as it belonged to him. He looked puzzled for a moment but shrugged it off. As he reached for and opened the package hope burned in him for the first time in a year. As he finally unwrapped the last layer of paper and opened the box he gave a gasp of joy for inside the box was the puzzle.
(Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye)
Yugi sat and looked at the package and its contents that had been waiting for him when he had arrived home from school. It was from the Ishtars. The letter that came with it said it had showed up one day and when they realized what it was had sent it to him straight away. A tear rolled down his face, it had been a year since Yami had went away. He missed him desperately. He dreamt about him every night.
(And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance)
As he picked up each piece of the puzzle the tears continued to fall. Each piece seemed to gleam in the light and Yugi began to remember. He remembered everything they had gone through together. He thought about Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, Virtual World, Fighting Dartz and finally going into the past. That was where everything changed. As he placed each piece into place the tears kept falling. Yugi remembered Yami’s smile, his touch, his voice, all of it.
(Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all)
The final Duel had been tense as he didn’t want to loose his Yami, his friend. Life was going to be meaningless without him but he knew what he had to do. Afterwards he had walked around in a daze for months hiding how he felt. Crying himself to sleep at night mourning the lose of his friend, his other half. He knew his friends were worried about him and he felt bad about causing them to worry but he couldn’t help it. He just wanted his Yami back. He had talked to Ryou about it and it seemed he was also missing a piece of himself as well. It had brought them closer together and for that he was grateful. But it didn’t fill the gaping hole where his heart had been.
(And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance)
As the puzzle came together each piece clicking together he mourned for the lose of his Yami. He could never be happy again. He would give anything to get him back, to feel those arms wrap around him again. The tears had run their course as he put the last piece in remembering the first time he had completed it. He sat and looked at the puzzle hoping to hear the voice he had been only hearing in his dreams for the pass year telling him he would be back and that he loved him. Exhausted he collapsed onto the bed holding the puzzle tightly to his chest not noticing the light that began to shine. He closed his eyes tightly missing the person appear and bend down to whisper gently in his ear. “Yugi I’m back. Wake up Aibou.”
Yugi felt a smile appear on his face and did as the voice asked. He knew he would be okay.
(Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance)
