Healing Touch

Healing Touch

Author’s Note – This tale was actually inspired by one of the RP’s I’m involved in. The plot bunny kept going around and around my brain until the muses got sick of seeing it bouncing around. I guess you can say I was pretty much ordered to write it to kill it off, otherwise they were going to torture the poor thing until it went away. Can’t have that now, can we? Plot bunnies are incredibly special, especially if the story idea they bring with them is one you really think could end up being something everyone will enjoy. Anyway, here’s my new story. I hope everyone enjoys it! Huge hugs and gratitude to Silvershadowfire, DracOnyx, shy_leighc, and ladywolf_terri. You guys are the greatest friends out there and the sisters of my heart.

Disclaimer – I do not own YuGiOh in any shape, form, or fashion. All rights belong to Mr. Takahashi of Japan – lucky guy!!! The plot bunny is mine, but nothing else. I just like to play with the characters.

Chapter One – Torn Asunder

Azure eyes watched the darkened room, softened by a mixture of emotions that could only resemble pity and sympathy. His eyes, along with the rest of the room’s occupants, were locked on to the tiny form of the duelist that had been instrumental in bringing the entire group together.

Tears filled the large amethyst eyes, making them shine like jewels in the dim light. The usually gentle voice was harsh with emotion as he questioned the one standing in front of him.

“I don’t understand. Yami, why?”

The tri-colored haired spirit stood in front of his soul partner. His voice was quiet and soothing as he answered the teenager’s question.

“I am exhausted, Yugi. My life has been spent dedicated to the welfare of others, never being allowed to make a decision for myself. The time has come for me to take my rest. The gods have put me through enough and are finally allowing this. I need this; I want it.”

The tears that had been shining so brightly finally slipped free, slowly making their way down the silky skin that was looking much too pale.

“But I need you, Yami. Please don’t go.”

Yami took in a deep breath, not relishing this at all, and praying that it wouldn’t be drawn out any longer than it had to be. He had suspected his soul partner would object to this, but he’d had no idea that Yugi would take his leaving so badly.

“Yugi, I…”

The smaller of the pair interrupted him, sharing something that had been in his heart for a long time. He’d been waiting for the perfect opportunity to do so, and that time had never come. Now, the hikari had to share it, otherwise his heart would leave without him.

“Yami, I love you.”

The blue eyed listener could hear murmurs behind him, and two of the voices carried notes of disgust. Seto knew that the announcement would have repercussions later and could only wonder if Yugi would be able to handle it.

Yugi, in the meantime, had loosened all barriers on his side of the mental bond he shared with his yami. The spirit was flooded by the powerful emotions and winced internally, finally realizing just how deep the young one’s feelings for him were. He didn’t relish what had to be done next, knowing that his hikari would not take his response well. However, Yami knew he had to do it, otherwise the little one would never be able to recover from his absence.

His voice was quiet and despite the gentle tone, his words cut Yugi painfully.

“I’m sorry, Yugi, but I don’t feel the same. You are a precious friend and someone I care for as I would a younger brother. I’m sorry this hurts you but if I stayed and didn’t tell you the truth, it would hurt you more.”

The wall behind him transfigured itself from stone to light, showing the passageway into the afterlife. Yami gave each of them a smile before walking towards the door. His clothes changed from the simple school uniform into the royal garb he’d worn during his life in Egypt.

“Farewell. Be happy, all of you.”

With that last comment, the spirit disappeared through the wall, which turned into stone once again.

Yugi felt his bond with Yami snap, and the cry of anguish that left his lips echoed through the chamber.

“Yami!”

Ryou, Joey, Malik, and Duke rushed to the small duelist’s side as he dropped to his knees, staring blankly at the stone wall.

“Yugi, you all right, pal?”

The response to Joey’s question was quiet, almost too difficult for the rest of the room’s occupants to hear.

“He left me.”

Joey’s eyes met those of his friends before he quietly scooped Yugi up, carrying him out of the tomb as quickly as he could. The blond knew that his best friend needed to be out of there as quickly as possible.

The others followed, and two of them were glad that they didn’t have to go through what their fellow hikari was now experiencing. Yugi had always been the strongest of the three of them and his reaction was frightening them, as well as breaking their hearts. The anguish that had colored his answer had told them all they needed in regards to the state of his mind and heart.

Isis, somehow knowing what Yugi needed, drove them immediately to the airport and the group boarded Seto’s plane, grateful that he’d called ahead to ensure that everything would be ready for them.

Joey put the small duelist in a seat and flinched as he brushed the long blond bangs out of the way of the blank amethyst eyes.

“His skin feels like ice.”

Seto, having heard the comment, gently felt the hand of his greatest rival. As Joey had said, the flesh was cold and he knew what that meant. Shaking his head, he turned to the group, knowing that something had to be done quickly to ensure that Yugi wouldn’t slip away from them.

“Go get a blanket out of the storage compartment,” he ordered firmly. “Someone get him some tea with plenty of honey or sugar. It looks like he’s going into shock.”

Joey rushed to find the blanket as Ryou went to the galley to brew the tea. Both of them were glad to have some kind of task, wanting to help their friend.

The blond haired duelist was the first to return, bringing two warm blankets with him. He and Seto worked together, swaddling the tiny form of the duelist. Yugi’s body hung limp, unresisting as the two of them continued their task, wanting to make sure that Yugi would become warm.

Seto took the tea from Ryou as the white haired hikari joined them, stirring it with the spoon once before holding the cup to Yugi’s lips. The teenager remained unresponsive, still staring blankly at the seat in front of him.

“Great, now what?” Duke asked.

The CEO ignored the dice master and used to spoon to feed the tea to Yugi, silently massaging his throat to ensure that he swallowed the small amount before giving him another. The last thing he wanted was to choke the hikari on the beverage.

Joey’s honey brown eyes widened as he watched his rival patiently spoon feed the hot drink to Yugi. If it hadn’t have been for the amethyst eyes and tri-colored hair, one would swear that Kaiba was taking care of his young brother. There was a look of concern hidden within the blue eyes that Joey knew so well.

Once the tea had been given to Yugi, Seto stood and looked at the group of friends that had been with the hikari for so long. His keen gaze was quick to note that two people were no longer standing with the others, hiding themselves in the back of the plane. Anger filled him but did not color his calm voice as he addressed the group.

“Someone will need to stay with him and keep him warm until we reach Japan. The blankets aren’t doing enough to bring his temperature up.”

Chocolate colored eyes met lavender and the two hikaris quickly volunteered, wanting to do something to help their fellow hikari. Malik and Ryou quickly sat down on either side of Yugi, snuggling with him under the blankets in hopes their body heat might be able to help chase away the chill that had seemed to settle into the soft skin.

While Joey and Duke took turns making hot tea or hot chocolate to give to Yugi, Joey kept tossing the sight of Seto taking care of his best friend around in his mind, making him wonder if he had truly been right in believing that the CEO had hidden depths. This made the teenager all the more determined to try to get to know Seto Kaiba much better, with or without his consent.

By the time they arrived in Japan, Seto had checked on Yugi several times and then pulled Joey aside.

“I’ve called Yugi’s grandfather and explained part of the situation. By his request, he wants you and the others to bring Yugi home. My doctor will meet you there to take a look at him and see what can be done to take care of the shock. If it’s bad enough, he may recommend taking the boy to the hospital.”

Joey nodded, knowing that Kaiba had done the right thing. Yugi did need someone to take a look at him. Despite all they had done, the small teenager had not responded at all, seemingly locked in a world that he simply could or would not free himself from.

Seeing the blonde’s response, Kaiba went on, knowing that a heads up would be needed about an approaching problem. Rival or not, Yugi simply did not need more stress piled on him right now.

“Keep an eye on Taylor and the girl.”

A look of confusion sank into the golden eyes, unsure why Kaiba would say something like that.

“Why?”

One sable eyebrow arched. “Have you noticed that they haven’t been near any of you since Yugi’s little confession to the pharaoh? This may end up being trouble for all of you. Just keep an eye on them. Right now, the last thing Yugi needs is an argument over a petty matter with the people he thought were his friends.”

Joey had been so focused on his little buddy, he hadn’t realized that Tristan and Téa hadn’t offered to help with Yugi or sit near them at all during this trip. He hoped Kaiba was wrong but knew he’d have to keep an eye on the situation.

“I’ll do that. And Kaiba?”

Azure eyes met golden brown for a long moment, quietly questioning him.

“Thank you for what you’ve done for Yugi.”

A little surprised but hiding it well, Seto nodded and quietly headed towards the cockpit of the plane, intent on finding out where their position and estimated time of arrival were

Joey watched him go and turned towards the area where his best friend was sitting, hoping that he’d see the amethyst eyes sparkle with life and joy once again. Something told him that his little buddy would need time to get over the devastation today had brought to his heart and soul.

Author’s End Note – Almost as depressing as Unbreak My Heart is! But I think this should be a lot of fun. Again, please leave a review and let me know what all of you think of this.
