Author’s Note: Set when Raphael is around nineteen.
Punishment was hard on an Inu. Especially when he hadn’t done anything wrong for such a long time.
Straining against the thick metal links of the choke collar, Raphael sat out in the shed, whimpering as he looked out of the window in hopes that his Master would come by soon. He knew exactly what he’d done to deserve a punishment, but it was so cold out now and it was beginning to snow.
He sighed and wandered back over to the worn out Inu bed in the corner. It was flat and uncomfortable and more than ever, Raphael wished for the comfort of his own large bed or that of his Master’s. He heard stirring outside and tried to run for the door, forgetting the chain.
It tightened and he hacked, falling on the ground. He recovered and continued to pull, tail wagging furiously as the door opened ever so slowly. His ears perked and he began sniffing madly as the scent of food came to his nose.
That was also something he hadn’t had in a while. Food.
He hadn’t eaten in a whole day and he was starving. He let out a brief howl and pulled against the chain, enthusiasm dropping a bit when he realized it wasn’t his Master, but one of his maids. The woman came in and smiled, calling back behind her.
“He’s awake Honey. Come on.”
A little girl came in behind the woman and Raphael smiled. He liked Talia’s children and wagged his tail when the girl came up and scratched behind his proud golden-brown ears.
“Raphy!” she chirped. “We brought you blankets!”
The woman smiled and set food on the ground, pouring the Inu fresh water in the food station near the corner. “I also brought food. I’ll be in tomorrow and for the rest of the week too.”
Raphael frowned. “Rest of the week? Where’s Master? I’ve been good!”
Talia smiled kindly. “He had to go on a business trip and didn’t say anything about letting you out, so we brought blankets and warm things for you! It’ll be getting cold here pretty soon...I don’t know why Mr. Pegasus insists wintering in places that actually get cold. I’d figure with his money he could go to the summer home.”
Raphael absently licked the little girl’s hand as he considered Talia’s words. Master had left him to go on a business trip. He didn’t understand. He always went with Master everywhere. It was for protection unless he wanted to -
It hit Raphael in the face and the Inu growled suddenly, the girl drawing back.
“Mommy?” she cowered behind her skirts.
Raphael yelped as he was smacked on the nose. “Don’t growl at her!”
His ears drooped and he apologized. Talia was nice and so was her daughter .
“I’m sorry...is Master going to be home soon?”
“Probably not till after the holiday. Sorry Raphy.” She dropped a heap of blankets on the worn out bed and patted him on the head, escorting her daughter out.
When she was gone, the food that Raphael had so desperately wanted no longer seemed so important. He went over to the bed, rubbing his neck where the collar had restrained him and arranged the covers before he flopped down on them with a heavy sigh.
Master’s gone...for a whole week...without me. He’s with someone else. Without me.
He gave a keening whimper and his ears flattened against his skull. The teenage Inu didn’t like being separated from his Master and had even been sent to an ECC psychologist for “separation anxiety behavior modification”, but it hadn’t worked because Pegasus refused to follow the training guidelines.
The Inu burrowed under the blankets and curled up, a tiny whole for his nose to breathe through.
Maybe Master will miss me and come home tomorrow....
****
When Talia returned the next day she saw that the food hadn’t been touched and the water was nearly at the same level. She refreshed each bowl and went to give Raphael a few pats then left to continue her work inside the house.
Raphael knew he’d have to eat soon, but he was lonely. He’d been watching the window all day and straining to sniff at the door, but he couldn’t smell his Master at all, or at least, nothing fresh. He ate a few bites of Inu Formula 1 kibble and settled down back into sleep.
****
The staff that remained stood outside in their coats, some with their hands over their ears.
“Is he going to howl like that forever?”
“He’s been howling since yesterday!”
It was the middle of the week already, nearly the end and tree days had passed. Pegasus hadn’t returned, which meant leisure for the staff and half days, but for Raphael it meant more loneliness which he let everyone know about through song.
“And if you go in there and try to tell him to be quiet he’ll just start snapping at you! I can’t believe Mr. Pegasus owns such a vicious creature!”
“Wish he were better trained! I’m so glad he’s out there too, if he’d stayed in the house there’d be no telling what we’d have to fix or clean up! He still chews the furniture when he’s bored!”
They stood around gossiping until the snow came down heavier, causing them to disperse, howls filling the air.
The kibble bowl was empty and Raphael’s throat was tired. He’d already taken the night’s bath -Master wouldn’t have him unclean so he’d installed a bathroom in the shed. It wasn’t much, but it worked just fine.
The mixed Guard Inu lay on his side, shirtless in the chilled air, his breath coming out in puffs. His leg kicked and he whined, working himself into a frenzy as he jerked himself to completion, panting as it was done.
If Master were here....
He growled again, knowing that somewhere perhaps his Master was with someone else, loving them, giving them sweet kisses for Christmas that should by all right belong to him. He was loyal, why wasn’t Master?
He gave a satisfied grunt and turned over, pulling the covers with him to sleep.
****
It was the eighth day, longer than a week Raphael knew that much, but he didn’t care. He’d been lying in bed for days now, staring at the wall. He’d been eating enough to stave away hunger and washing enough to keep away the stink, but he really didn’t care anymore. Talia had come by a few times in the past few days -he didn’t know he wasn’t counting that anymore -and he’d barely reacted when she’d tried to get him to play or pet him.
Where was his Master?
He’d stop howling around the fifth day when one of the servants whapped him with a newspaper. He hated the butlers anyway. Earlier, someone had come by to wish him a “Merry Christmas” and left a present by the door. He gave a long range sniff and it was beef jerky.
He didn’t care.
It was night now and it was getting really cold against so Raphael shrugged the covers up. He’d stop bothering to put his shirts on, disliking the buttons up even though they fit better when he was chained like this. His tail thumped in boredom and he sighed, listening to feet approach the door.
Why wouldn’t the stupid servants leave him alone?
The door came open and Raphael growled as he was sure snow had blown in. He didn’t turn around, he just curled up more, trying to ignore it.
“Well if that’s how you greet you master then maybe I should just go back to America for a few days?”
The right smell was there.
Like lightning Raphael was out of the bed and headed for the door, forgetting the collar. He choked himself and reached out for Pegasus, straining, his neck muscles bulging. The man panicked and came forward.
“Oh no! I told them to change your collar! Oh dear....” He began to take the collar off, leaning his head back as eager licks aimed for his mouth became desperate kisses.
“Raphael! Down!”
The Inu’s tail was going a mile a minute and he wasn’t listening. Free of the collar he tackled the man to the floor and licked his neck and face, getting in a few kisses and beginning to rub against him, whining and whimpering.
“Raphael I said ‘down’ or you’ll stay out here a few more days!”
The Inu withdrew, backing away some distance but pacing eagerly, his tail still going.
“Master, I was behaving myself! Please let me back in the house I’m sorry!”
Pegasus wiped his face with a handkerchief and nodded, “I can tell.” He went over to the Inu and held up his hand.
“Still.”
Raphael stopped pacing and stood in front of the man, already a head taller.
“Now...” Pegasus put a different collar on him. It was a rich brown leather with a tiny gold plate that said Raphael’s name. Pegasus stepped back a bit. “...Perfect...I got it from a leather worker in New York. Like it?”
The youth moved his neck around. “It’s new...”
“I know you hate your collars, but they look so cute...I like the thick kind on you too, not that thin one you’re always wearing...” He came back up to the Inu and checked him over, pushing up the boy’s lips to look at his teeth and gums. “Did you eat?”
“A little...” he murmured, licking at Pegasus’s fingers through his fangs. “Missed you Master.”
“I know.” Pegasus patted his cheek and looked around. “I’ll have them get these things later....why aren’t you in a shirt? It’s freezing out there!”
“I don’t like those shirts...”
The white haired man nodded absently, moving hair out of his face. “We’ll take you shopping tomorrow then...” He turned and went for the door. “Heel Raphael!”
The Inu went to his side and they walked through the snow to the house.
The first thing the Inu did when he was back inside was rub himself on everything and anything, nearly knocking over the huge Christmas tree in the living room. Pegasus laughed and bid his main assistant take pictures, talking about how cute his “puppy” was at Christmas. The Inu tore open his presents, actually beginning to chew boxes open before he was corrected with a spray bottle and squeaked, chewed, and shook every toy he got, puzzling over his new cell phone and enthusiastically sniffing the lining of his leather jacket.
“Thank you Master!” he said, moving over to the couch and burrowing his head in the man’s lap. Pegasus leaned hi face up.
“Stop sniffing me there! Bad dog!”
Raphael’s tail wagged and he sat on the couch, leaning his neck out so Pegasus could snap on some more collars to see how they looked.
“Hm...” he took one off and put it around the Inu’s arm. “There. And you’ve got nice biceps too so that’ll be nice.”
They spent the rest of the evening, Pegasus sipping hot drinks and watching the fire as he told Raphael about New York and what he did there. The Inu leaned on him, licking his neck occasionally, sniffing his hair.
“Master...I’m tired, can we go to bed?”
Pegasus patted the youth’s cheek and got up. “We’ll go then. Come on.”
**
Upstairs, Raphael made himself at home on the bed while Pegasus finally wound down from his day and the long flight back. He came out to the bed in pajama pants, moving his hair behind his shoulders and pressing the remote for the fire. The Inu watched the display for a second and laid across the bed in his boxers, tail swishing against the sheets.
This was all he could want for Christmas and more.
A hand smoothed up his back and lips touched his ears. “Raphael.”
“Master?”
The man leaned over the Inu, cupping his face in one hand. “I spent over ten thousand dollars fixing what you did. Do you understand?”
“But Master -.”
“Exactly. I am your Master. You are my pet. I can invite anyone into this bed I like. How many times do we have to have this discussion? How many do I have to bury?”
Raphael gave a small growl and promptly smacked.
“Kaiba runs an adoption Center. I’m sure someone would want you after I give you away.”
The Inu whimpered and Pegasus frowned. “Do we understand each other?”
“Master I’m sorry.”
Pegasus kissed his forehead. “I know Puppy Dog...”
They kissed and Pegasus removed the Inu’s boxers, moving over him and letting the youth remove his pajama pants.
In the rutting that followed, Raphael knew for certain that he wanted this mas as his own, the he wanted his Master to be something more. He’d tried last year and been severely punished, puzzled a to why his Master had bandaged the perfect marks he’d made in his neck but no matter...he’d just have to try again...
“Merry Christmas....” he breathed into the man’s ear.
He got a kiss and his tail wagged.
He’d gotten what he wanted after all.
