Chapter One
In a kingdom set in the past, there lived a king. He was fierce and he treated his people with cruelty and very poorly. In this land they called their kings, “pharaohs.” This pharaoh created the seven most powerful and most dangerous items ever; these items were known as the millennium items. Within these items when combined would deliver upon the earth, the most deadly shadows of all.
Each item had certain power that only a selected few could hold these items without being consumed by chaos and madness that would befall anyone that were not destined to hold these items. This pharaoh whom is named Akhenamkhanen was on of those chosen. His item was the Millennium Puzzle. Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen had six other priests that were also his advisors. They were also chosen ones to hold the remaining six millennium items. These priests and the pharaoh himself would judge a person by there ka or ba monster. Then, that monster would appear on a stone slab. Now, Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen knew that his days as pharaoh were numbered. He wanted to pass his puzzle onto his son, before he crossed over to the other side to have his heart weighed by Anubis the Lord of the Underworld. He sent Mahado to go fetch his son from his studies.
Meanwhile, there was a boy who is about sixteen or seventeen years of age. He had tri-colored hair that was shaped like a star. He had three streaks that went straight up in his hair like thunderbolts. His eyes were narrow and the most unusual exotic crimson that would darker whenever he got angry. He was on the balcony overlooking the vast stretch of land. His name was Atemu, the son, and the heir to the throne of Egypt. Atemu was so lost in thought, which he been doing in the past few weeks lately. You see before Atemu can accend to the throne, he must marry first. His father, the current pharaoh, had already arranged for him to be married to a princess from a far off country. People called this country the “Land of the Rising Sun.” This said princess was coming in one month’s time. Atemu was so lost in thought that he did not even hear the knock at the door, or even hear Mahado sneaking up on him until Mahado placed his hand on Atemu’s shoulder causing said crown prince to jump ten-feet into the air.
Mahado smirked at being able to scare the young prince. Atemu turned around and mock glared at his friend Mahado. “Mahado you sarcastic old goat. What do you want?” Mahado playful side came back. “Have you thought more on the arranged marriage, my prince? The princess will be here soon.” Atemu gave an angry sigh, “I do not even know this princess, not even her name and father wants me to marry her. I still cannot believe that father even did that.” Mahado look at his friend the crown prince with sympathy in his eyes. “You never know Atemu you may end up liking this princess when you meet her.” Atemu gave Mahado a look that clearly stated, ‘You have got to be kidding me.’ Suddenly Mahado pushed all playfulness aside, “Atemu your father wishes to see you.” Atemu nodded and started to walk toward the door. “Did my father say why Mahado?” Mahado sighed shaking his head, “no I am sorry my prince. He did not.” Mahado showing respect by bowing slightly when Atemu passed him. Atemu continued on his way to his father’s chambers which were on the other side of the palace. Atemu walked into his father’s, the pharaoh’s, chambers.
On the bed, laid the ill-stricken pharaoh. Atemu walked over to his father’s side. “Father, how are you feeling?” Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen looked at his son sadly and whispers, “my son, I am afraid this illness is going to in the end take my life. So I want you to take my place as the ruler of Egypt, and also the new protector of the Millennium Puzzle.” Pharaoh Akhenamkanen took the puzzle from around his neck and then place said puzzle from around his son’s neck. He watched as the Eye of Horus appeared on Atemu’s forehead and the puzzle began to glow signaling that Pharaoh Akhenamkanen’s son was accepted by the item and the Shadow Realm. When this is finish, Atemu looked at his father with tears in his crimson eyes. “Father, please do not leave me.” Pharaoh Akhenamkanen places his hand on Atemu’s cheek wiping away falling tears, smiling softly with tears in his own eyes, then his eyes starts to close and his breathing started to become labored, eventually stopping all together. The once pharaoh Akhenamkanen died on his bed with all six priests and his son standing beside him.
