Chapter One
A young boy sat in the corner of a darkened room. Knees drawn up close to his chest, arms draped loosely around his legs. He stared into the darkness as if in a daze, his mind as blank as the shadows around him.
Rain poured steadily outside the window. Flashes of light brightened the interior now and then when lightening struck. Amethyst eyes shone in those seconds when the room was washed with light. His own lightning kissed bangs fought the darkness that came back with frightening intensity and yet the dark would enclose him once again.
His breathing was easy and light as seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours. The night slowly moved on as the storm strengthened bringing howling winds and even more lightning.
The sound of wheels pulling into a drive way stirred the first signs of life within the boy. His slouch state tensed slightly eyes blinking in the darkness, his brows creased as he turned a cramped neck to eye a small green lighted clock sitting across the room.
The numbers 3:38 shone into the dark. He blinked again as the sound of the front door closed making the house shudder even though it wasn't slammed. Loud foot steps filled the hallway, there was a bang when the feet stumbled then the footsteps continued on before stopping in front of the boys room.
The handle turned and there was a pause and then the door was pushed the entire way open. Light from the hallway flooded the room, Young features stared up into the woman standing the door way, slightly blocking some of the glare.
Glazed eyes took in the empty bed widening for a second before sweeping the room and landing on the boy in the corner. Confusion slid across the features of the young woman.
She cleared her throat, her hand gripping the doorframe. "You should be asleep." Her words slurred at the end. The boy only stared at her. "Why are you st-still awake?" His unwavering gaze made her uneasy. Made a distrusting emotion fill her drunken mind, an unwarranted anger at his refusal to answer her filled her heart and mind. Her brows creased, "Answer me Yugi." Her voice rose only a pitch, not yet yelling.
The grip she held on the door way tightened as he continued to stare somewhere behind her head. Anger swarmed her hands the emotion strong and almost alarming as she had an urge to make the child listen to her. To obey her. It was too strong, she loosened her grip on the doorway and nearly stumbled to the child as he continued to stare dazed in a direction behind her.
Her arm whipped out and a crack sounded loud in the room. "Answer me!" Her voice rang with anger. The boys glazed look flew from his eyes and awareness flooded his senses. He looked up at his mother with confusion in his eyes.
"Im sorry Momma." The look in his eyes aggravated her even more. His beautiful eyes stared at her sadly and the urge to wipe the look from that childish face was so strong that her hands clenched. She leaned down and grabbed for his arm. Alarm flushed his features as he was roughly pulled from the crouched position.
Yugi's legs felt like dead weight from his night spent in the same position. They gave way as his mother flung him forward into her even as her other hand rose. "You Listen to me!" The anger raced through her veins. Anger at him, anger at herself, at the world. An almost rage pushed through her, the urge to hurt, to make him listen, to make him understand her even when she didn't understand anything herself.
The hand raised came down in an arch hitting. She brought her arm up again as he stumbled into her. Her other hand gripping hard into his shoulder holding him in place. Again and again she hit him in fast repetition screaming at him. Wanting him to listen needing him to hear her to acknowledge her.
Her voice was hoarse, tears streamed down her face as she finally collapsed to her knees, she gripped the boy to her hugging him to her chest as she cried. When her own sobs quieted she heard the whispering against her chest. She looked down with anguished eyes at the boy in her arms. Straining to hear she made out what he was chanting his fingers clung desperately to her shirt.
"Im sorry, Momma. Im sorry Momma." She breathed in sharply. As if sensing her look at him, he looked up at her. Blood ran from his nose and lip a scratch ran down his cheek. Disgust filled her stomach.
"Oh God." She pushed her son away from her flinging herself back away from the boy. She stumbled to her feet backing away from the child on the floor. He lay still on the floor for a moment before lifting up to face her for only a second. His mouth still moving in whispers. Her stomach recoiled at what she had done. She rushed from the room emptying her stomach in the bathroom across the hall. "Oh god, oh god, oh god."
Yugi lay crumpled on his floor. His whispering had stopped only moments before. He listened quietly as his mother removed herself from the bathroom and slammed her door shut to her own bedroom. Only then did the tears form, the salty water ran from his eyes stinging his open lip. He pushed himself up from the hard wood of his floor, with a grimace he gripped his bedding to help pull him onto the bed. Not bothering to cover up he shut his eyes and slept.
A/N: This fic stems from the fact that most of the fics that portray Yugi being abused in a home environment are not realistic. While still good! I read and love Yugi Angst!!(im not bashing any one!) Im trying here to be realistic in this form of abuse, its both psychological and physical. I am trying very hard to keep this fic as real as possible. I'm not sure where its going to take me even though I have a general direction. It's a AU so some characters may be a little OOC and some may not show up at all. Yami will be Yugi's father in this fic although I am a huge Yami/Yugi fan Im a sucker for a good fatherly fic. lol.
