Project: Destiny
Chapter One
by Ravenx
Seto Kaiba sat at his desk in the back of the classroom. His dark blue eyes scanning over a file in front of him. One of his long fingered hands slide through his thick and silky brown hair. A leather clad boot taps quietly on the old dirty white tile floor, the fingers of his other hand taps along in a tuneless beat on the wooded desk.
As the young CEO works the rest of the classroom is slowly filling with students. A tall sandy blonde watches the brunette closely, his honey colored eyes roaming over the standard navy blue school uniform the other wears. His nimble fingers subconsciously pulling at the loosened collar of his own uniform. He jumps slightly as a small hand waves in front of his face.
“Hey, Joey. Are you alright?”
“Oh, yeah, Yug. I’m fine.” The sandy blonde turns back around in his seat, smiling at the small tri-colored haired boy beside him.
“You’ve seemed out of it all day.”
“Nah, just thinking.”
“I didn’t know you knew how to do that.” A voice chuckles from a seat in front of Yugi.
“Shut up, Malik.” Joey hisses.
“Behave you two.” Yugi laughs.
“What have they done now?” A shy voice asks as a white haired boy takes the seat next to Malik, turning so that he faces the pale blonde with his light brown eyes looking at the smiling tri-colored haired boy.
“Just the usual. How has your day been Ryou?” Yugi ask the quiet boy.
“Fine. I’m just glad it’s the last class of the day.”
“Me too!” Malik grins.
“Are you all still coming over to my house after school?” Ryou asks.
“Yep.” The pale blonde pulls out a thick text book from his backpack.
“Yes, Yami is supposed to meet me outside after the final bell.” Yugi smiles widely.
“How about you Joey?” Ryou’s light brown eyes look at the sandy blonde as he doodles on a scrape of paper.
“Yeah, I’m coming. I ain’t got no place else to go.” Joey sighs.
“What’s wrong, Joey?” Yugi frowns at his unusually quiet friend.
“Nothing, Yug. I just always feel like a third wheel when I’m with you guys. I mean you have Yami and Malik has Marik and Ryou has Bakura. I don’t have anyone.” The sandy blonde pouts.
“We need to fix you up with someone.” Malik grins.
“Oh no. There is no way I’m letting you set me up.”
“Why not?”
“Cause knowing you, you’ll get a real weirdo.”
“I think it would be a good ideal to set you up.” Yugi smiles.
“Not you too!” Joey groans.
“We could have big date night Saturday at my house. Just us four couples.” Ryou suggests.
“That sounds great.” Yugi silently claps his hands together.
“No!”
“Why not?” The smallest boy pouts over at his sandy blonde friend.
“Because that’s tomorrow night. I’m not going on a date with someone you guys pick in only twenty-four hours.”
“Come on, Joey. It will be fun.” Malik practically jumps up and down in his seat.
“And you’ll be there with us. So if you don’t like your date we can have our yamis get rid of him.” Ryou smiles.
“Yeah, just give it a try, Joey.” Yugi turns wide, innocent eyes to the sandy blonde.
“I don’t know guys. Who do you have in mind?”
“Tea.” Malik grins evilly.
“No way! I swear if you set me up with her I’ll kill you.”
“Don’t worry. We aren’t going to fix you up with Tea.” Ryou gently slaps Malik’s navy covered thigh.
“Besides, she isn’t exactly your type.” Yugi smiles.
“What about…Tristian?” Malik asks.
“No way. He’s like my best friend.”
“And he is with Duke.” Ryou reminds them.
“Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.” Malik scratches his head.
“We can decide later. Class is starting.” Yugi whispers as he opens his book.
A tall gray haired man with small glasses steps into the room. His dark brown leather briefcase swinging by his side as he smiles over the students as they stop their conversations and prepare for the days lesson. Setting the briefcase down, the teacher slides an ugly brown coat off his shoulders and places it on the back of his torn black leather chair before turning to the board and picking up a marker.
As his voice floats around the room the tall brunette in the back of class rolls his ice blue eyes, his paperwork quickly disappearing in his silver briefcase to be replaced with his textbook and binder. Listening to the dull voice of the teacher he lets his eyes wonder around the room. Several students are paying close attention to the man in front of them while others are quietly passing notes back and forth. A small brown haired girl in the middle of the room rests her head on the palm of her hand while she reads a thick book of stories by Shirley Jackson. A tall black haired boy near the windows let his dark chocolate eyes scan the passing traffic out in front of the school.
A movement in front of the boy catches Seto’s attention, turning his deep blue eyes to the sandy blonde siting in the seat a head of the black haired student Seto smirks. Joey leans back dangerously in his chair, his pencil flipping around his fingers as he stares blankly at the older teacher. He yawns loudly before being quietly hushed by the small boy next to him with gravity defying hair.
Seto’s eyes narrow as he watches Yugi silently scold his friend, Joey rolling his eyes before setting his chair back on all four legs. His hand quickly writing the notes currently on the board. A giggle forces the brunette to look at the desk in front of the sandy blonde. Malik grins widely as he sneaks a hand under the table to pinch Ryou’s thin leg causing the white haired boy to slap his hand away only to have it return a moment later. Malik sticks his tongue out at shy boy as Ryou continues to try and ignore the pale blonde, his light brown eyes staring straight ahead at the teacher.
Suddenly the bell rings, snapping Seto out of his thoughts. Looking at the board he quickly scribbles down the homework assignment for the weekend before packing his items in his briefcase. Most of the students are already out the door and down the hall, excited that it was finally the weekend. Seto stands up and makes his way to the door, his shoulder bumping into the slightly shorter sandy blonde as Joey stands up.
“Watch it Kaiba.”
“You shouldn’t get in your master’s way, inu.” Seto says as he leaves the classroom, his icy eyes never looking at the other boy or his friends.
“Man that guy can be rude.” Malik picks up his bag, throwing it over his slim shoulder.
“Yeah.” Joey replies, his honey eyes staring after the brunette, a hand lingering on the arm that was bumped into.
Yugi carefully watches his sandy blonde friend, his eyes widening and his lips curving into smile. Ryou raises an elegant eyebrow at his small friend who just smiles wider, his light purple eyes looking over to Joey before drifting to the door. The white haired boy follows his eyes before smiling shyly.
“What are you smiling at?” Malik pinches Ryou’s rear end.
“Nothing and would you stop pinching me.” Ryou swats the pale blonde’s hands away.
“Why? What are you going to do if I don’t?”
“I’m going to tell Bakura.” Ryou sticks his tongue out at the slightly taller boy.
“You wouldn’t dare!”
“Just try me.”
“Are you two finished yet?” Joey asks, his honey colored eyes looking back and forth between the two boys.
“Come on guys lets get to Ryou’s house.” Yugi moves toward the door in a hurry.
“You just want to see Yami.” Malik rolls his eyes.
“And you don’t want to see Marik?” Yugi throws over his shoulders as he rushes out the door.
“Well, since he puts it that way. Let’s go!” Malik runs out the door and down the hall, following the bouncing tri-colored haired head down the hall.
“They are such children sometimes.” Ryou giggles as he walks out of the classroom with Joey.
“You can’t say you aren’t excited to get to Bakura.” Joey chuckles.
“I am but at least I act mature about it.”
“So what are we going to be doing tonight?”
“I don’t know. Bakura and Marik were supposed to pick up some movies today.”
“So we’re in for some gore tonight.” Joey laughs.
“Probably. But I told them to try and get at least one comedy for Yugi.”
“For Yugi or for you?”
“For the both of us.” Ryou wriggles up his nose at the taller sandy blonde. “Do you want to stop by your locker?”
“No. The only homework I got is this class so I already have all I need.” Joey holds up his textbook and binder. “How about you?”
“I don’t use my locker. I just carry all my books in my bag.”
“All your books?” Joey looks surprisingly over at the white haired boy.
“Well, kinda. My teachers let me hide the books I don’t need to take home in their rooms. I only carry the ones that I’ll need for homework.”
“Then why not use your locker?”
“It’s all the way upstairs and I only have one class up there. I don’t feel like running up and down the stairs all day.”
“That makes sense.” Joey nods as he opens the large dark gray metal doors that lead out of the school building.
“What took you two so long?” Malik whines as he balances across the small stone wall only a couple feet off the ground that separates the steps from several different colored flowers.
“We didn’t run out like maniacs like you two.” Ryou smiles.
“Can we go know?” Joey leaps down the steps.
“In a second. We have to wait for Yami.” Yugi readjust his dark blue backpack on his narrow shoulder.
“He wasn’t here?” Ryou asks.
“Yeah he just had to go do something right fast.”
“What?” Joey glances around the schoolyard for the other tri-colored haired head.
“Just a little something I asked him to do. Nothing important.” Yugi smiles.
“If you say so.”
“Malik get down from there. You’ll hurt yourself.” Ryou scolds the pale blonde.
“Yes mother.” Pale violet eyes roll as Malik hops off the small wall.
“And don’t call me mother.”
“Hey, Yami.” Joey waves at the taller boy as he rounds the corner.
“Hello, Joey.”
“Did you do want you had to do?”
“Yes I did.” Yami winks down at his light as he takes the book bag from his shoulder and carries it.
“So it’s all taken care of?” Yugi asks mildly surprised.
“Yes. It took a little persuading but now it’s all set.”
“Good.”
“What are you two talking about?” Malik asks.
“Nothing. Come on lets get to Ryou’s house.”
“Yes. Hopefully the house is still in one piece.” Ryou smiles as he follows his friends down the sidewalk.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“Shit. Hurry up, Marik.” A white haired boy yells from across the room.
“I’m moving as fast as I can.” A pale blonde mumbles.
The two boys stand on opposite sides of a large kitchen, the once forest green walls now speckled in white powder. The dark, hard wood floors covered in upturned pots and pans, more white powder covering them. The once white stove now covered in black ash, a small remains of smoke floating up to the ceiling and out of the opened air vent. The smell of burnt flour lays heavy in the air.
On one side of the room a tall pale blonde hurriedly sweeps up some flour off the floor. His black cargo pants and light violet tank top covered in spots of white. Spiky pale blonde hair is matted down on one side by a light yellow substance. Opposite him a white haired boy quickly washing several dishes, the black counter top piled high with more dishes. The boy’s dark blue jeans and white short sleeved shirt are soaking wet, his normally spiky hair hanging down in his dark brown eyes. His pale face wet and covered in flour, his arms reaching up to swipe some long strands of hair out of his way.
“Hurry.” Bakura growls.
“I’m hurrying. Why don’t you hurry?”
“I am.”
“You’d move faster if you quit pestering me.” Marik hisses over his shoulder as he continues to sweep up the flour.
“I have a right to pester you.”
“Why?”
“You were the one that wanted to make cupcakes for tonight.”
“I didn’t hear you disagreeing.”
“I thought you knew what you were doing.” Bakura runs the soapy dishrag over a long metal pan before setting it aside and picking up a large glass bowl.
“Since when do I know how to cook? You’re the one with the hikari that’s almost as good as a real chef.”
“That doesn’t mean he taught me. Enough talking, we have to get this cleaned up before…”
“Before what? Before we get home?” A strained voice quietly comes from the doorway of the kitchen.
“Koi!” Bakura quickly turns around, the glass bowl slipping from his wet and soapy fingers to fall on the floor, clear pieces scattering around the floor.
“Don’t ‘koi’ me. What are you doing, Bakura?” Ryou stands just inside the door with his hands on his slim hips.
The others stand behind the white haired teen, Joey and Yami laughing out loud as they hold their sides, silent tears running down their cheeks. Yugi’s wide eyes look around at the mess, his mouth open in shock but no sound coming out. Malik glares daggers into the taller pale blonde’s back, Marik refusing to turn around and look at his hikari.
“Marik! What have you done?” Malik yells.
“I didn’t do anything, kitsune.” Marik slowly turns around, smiling innocently at the smaller pale blonde as he tries to hide the broom behind his back.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“Bakura, explain.” Ryou narrows his light brown eyes at his yami.
“I…I…It was Marik’s fault.” Bakura points to the other end of the room.
“It was not! He is the one that said it was a good ideal.” Marik points back at Bakura.
“Enough!” Malik yells causing the fighting to end and all eyes snapping to him. “You two are going to clean this up. We are going in the other room and you are not coming out of this kitchen until it is spotless again. Understood?”
“But Malik…”
“But kitsune…”
“No buts! I swear I’ll have Yami send both of you to the shadow realm but not before he mind crushes you both. Understood?” Malik hisses.
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
“Good.” With that Malik turns around, slipping by Joey who is still chuckling and wiping his eyes.
Yami, Yugi, and Joey quickly move after him back into the living room. Their hushed voices the only sound in the silent kitchen. Ryou still stands, his hands on his thin hips, light brown eyes staring at the nervously fidgeting white haired yami.
“You are in so much trouble.”
“I’m sorry, koi.”
“That is not going to make up for this.” Ryou gestures to the messy kitchen before he quickly turns around and heads into the living room calling back over his shoulder. “And you’re buying replacements for anything you broke.”
“I’ll just steal them.” Bakura mumbles.
“I heard that and no you won’t! You’ll pay for it!” Ryou yells through the now closed swinging door.
“He told you.” Marik chuckles.
“Like you stood up to your hikari?” Bakura hisses before moving back to the sink, his hands digging for more dishes to wash.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“I can’t believe them.” Malik groans, his hands rubbing his eyes.
The pale blonde lays across a large over stuffed, white chair, his legs hanging down the side. The white cargo shorts he now wears clinging to his lower body just as the black tank top does. On an overstuffed white sofa sits Yami, his black leather clad legs crossed and resting on the low glass coffee table. His black, no sleeved shirt hugs his chest tightly, showing off smooth muscles. A head of tri-colored hair lays on his chest, a small hand making patterns on his thigh. Yugi’s legs are tucked neatly under his body, his new attire of light blue jean shorts and short sleeved, white shirt fitting him comfortably. Yami’s hand rest gently on his hip, both of them watching the television that sits on a small cabinet in front of them.
Ryou sits on the other end of the couch, his arms crossed over his chest, the loose fabric of his blue and white horizontally striped, short sleeved shirt getting plucked at by thin fingers. His light blue jean covered legs are crossed at the knees, his light brown eyes staring blankly at the moving screen in front of him.
“I knew it was a bad ideal to let them stay in the house with each other all day with no supervision.” Ryou mumbles.
“Why weren’t you here, Yami?” Malik looks over to the couple on the sofa.
“I was at home trying to avoid those two.” Yami says, his eyes never leaving the screen.
“Well, next time you are defiantly coming over to yami-sit.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Why not?” Ryou looks over at the taller tri-colored haired boy.
“I would have them tied up or killed within the first hour.”
“I don’t think I’d complain.” Malik mumbles under his breath.
“What were they trying to do anyway?” Yugi asks.
“Make cupcakes.” Ryou says.
“How do you know?” Malik’s light violet eyes glance over at the white haired boy.
“Bakura’s been apologizing to me for the last hour.” Ryou rolls his eyes.
“You aren’t buying it, are you?”
“No. I’m too upset to buy it.”
“Good.”
“You think Joey will be back soon?” Yugi tries to change the subject.
“Probably. Why didn’t he bring a change of cloths over this morning like the rest of you?” Ryou asks.
“He was running late as usual.” Yugi giggles.
“Of course.” Malik chuckles.
“What are we going to do tomorrow?”
“What do you mean, Yugi?” Ryou looks over at the two snuggling lovers.
“If we’re having a date party we need to come up with stuff to do and eat.”
“Oh, yeah. I think it would be great if we could have a romantic, home-made dinner.”
“If we have a kitchen to cook in.” Malik whispers.
“What are you thinking about cooking?” Yugi sits up in the middle of the sofa, turning slightly to look fully at the white haired boy.
“I don’t know yet, but whatever it is you guys are helping me. I’m not making a whole dinner for eight by myself.”
“And Marik and Bakura are banned from the kitchen from now on.” Malik speaks up.
“I’ll help you. I’m an okay cook.” Yugi smiles.
“He is a terrific cook.” Yami rubs his hand up and down Yugi’s side causing the smaller boy to blush.
“Okay, how about…chicken parmesan?”
“That’s one of my faves.” Yugi nods.
“I can make a nice salad.” Malik suggests.
“What about desert?” Ryou leans forward slightly.
“Yugi should make his chocolate pound cake with chocolate sauce and cherries.” Yami kisses the top of Yugi’s head.
“That sounds delicious.” Malik licks his lips.
“It is delicious.”
“We can go shopping tomorrow for what we need.” Ryou smiles.
“Sounds good.” Malik nods.
“What are we going to do after dinner?”
“Watch movies?” Yugi shrugs.
“Maybe, how about playing some games too?” Ryou asks.
“What kind of games?” Yugi moves his legs down so that they hang over the edge of the sofa.
“How about truth or dare?” Malik sits up straighter.
“No! Not after the last time.” Yami almost shouts causing the other three to burst out laughing.
“You didn’t like that?” Ryou chuckles.
“I still haven’t gotten the image of the Tomb Robber running down the street in the middle of a rain storm naked out of my mind.” Yami shivers slightly.
“Okay, no truth or dare.” Malik sighs. “But what other fun can we have?”
“We can duel.”
“Only you would find that fun on a date, Yami.” Ryou smiles.
“I say we just eat dinner and then have a big orgy.” Malik grins evilly.
“Shut up, Malik.” Ryou throws a small gray pillow at the pale blonde.
“Just some wishful thinking.”
“Well I don’t share.” Yami tightens his hold on his small hikari.
“And neither does Bakura.” Ryou smiles.
“You guys are no fun.” Malik fakes a pout.
“Why aren’t they any fun?” A new voice joins them.
Looking toward the large entranceway of the living room, the boys find their sandy blonde friend. The navy school uniform is gone to be replaced with light blue jeans than hand loosely over bare feet and a slightly tight red, sleeveless shirt. A small torn, black duffel bag is held in one hand while his honey colored eyes look around the room at the others.
“They don’t want to have an orgy.” Malik turns his fake pout to Joey.
“You can just sit your bag by the door until we go up to bed tonight.” Ryou tells the tall sandy blonde.
“Okay.” The bag is placed on the outside of the living room before Joey walks over another overstuffed white chair beside the sofa and in front of Malik’s chair.
“What movies did Bakura and Marik get?” Malik jumps up, walking over to the cabinet the television sits on he starts looking through a stack of plastic cases.
“I hope they didn’t get all horror movies.” Yugi snuggles into Yami’s side.
“Let’s see…we have…The Grudge, Saw, The Village, Gothika, and…American Pie 2?” Malik laughs as he reads the last title.
“I told Bakura to get a comedy, I should have been more specific.” Ryou runs a hand down his pale face, shaking his head slightly.
“Where are Bakura and Marik?” Joey’s honey colored eyes look around the living room.
“In the kitchen cleaning up their mess.” Yami smirks.
“They’re still cleaning?”
“Yep.” Ryou sighs. “I swear it had best be back to normal when they get done.”
“Good thing your dad is overseas.” Malik plops back down on his chair.
“I can’t believe you guys are letting them clean it up by themselves. Aren’t you afraid they’ll do something worse?” Joey crosses his ankles on the coffee table, just an inch away Yami’s feet.
“Why don’t you shut up, Wheeler.” Bakura snaps as he exists the swinging door of the kitchen, his clothes and hair half-way dry.
“Be nice, Bakura.” Ryou warns. “Are you finished?”
“Yes. The kitchen is clean.”
“What all did you break or destroy?” Malik asks.
“That bowl and then a couple of pans had stuff to burnt onto them to get it off, I had to throw them away.” Bakura stands behind Ryou with his arms folded across his chest.
“And where is my tornado at?” Malik’s pale violet eyes look over to the kitchen door.
“Right here.” Marik steps out of the kitchen still covered in flour.
“Are you still mad at me, koi?” Bakura leans over the back of the sofa, his arms reaching down to wrap around Ryou.
“Don’t even think of touching me or this sofa. Go get a shower and then we will see if you can touch me.” Ryou speaks, his eyes staring straight ahead at the television.
“Fine.” Bakura mumbles under his breath as he disappears out the room, his footsteps pound on the wooden stairs.
“The same goes for you.” Malik points at his yami. “Go use the guest bathroom.”
“Just don’t start watching any movies until we get back.”
“We’ll see.” Malik smiles at the back of his yami as Marik follows Bakura up the steps.
