The Hourglass of Lost Souls
Back in the time when Pharaohs still ruled the land, Egypt was under the tyranny of a young, maybe their youngest yet, Atemu. He was merely six-teen, his advisor was always like a father to him, since his real father died in war, and his mother died when he was even younger. Shimon was an elderly man, but still cared for ‘Atem’ like he was his own. Yet. As happy as that town in Egypt was under his rule, they still had one problem. A thief, the king of thieves as people referred to him, his real name was Bakura. No one other than he knew why he and his large band of bandits constantly robbed tombs of Pharaohs and attacked the town and tried to steal from the royal treasury. Sure he was a thief, but he always attacked the tombs of Atem’s distant relatives.
Atem was sitting at the throne, perfect posture, head held high. It was early in the morning; Shimon was going over the daily schedule while he was given his glass of wine. He despised the taste of the alcohol. There were several young women around him, one sat at his feet, another on his lap, another on the arm of the throne, another standing beside him messaging his shoulders, and two fanning him. Moments later he motioned them to leave and they did so. The young Pharaoh got up and went down to his prized garden, angel trumpets, lilies, tulips, roses, anything and everything was there, even in assorted colors. Amongst all of it was his true prize, sitting by the small lake, her long sky blue hair shimmering like the waters’ ripples, his fiancé hadn’t seemed to notice his presence, for she still smiled looking to the pond fish that nipped at her slender fingertips.
“You look more beautiful than ever Kisara…” She looked up with a shock and sighed seeing it was Atem.
“You don’t need to continue flattering me all the time…” Her voice seemed to trail off as she looked back to the water, even though her expression was hidden by her hair, he could still feel the uneasiness around her. “What is it Kisara? Something seems to be troubling you…”
