*~*~*~*

A man walked along silently, walking through nothing but darkness. Darkness surrounded him, and as he walked, it only seemed to get darker, if that was possible. There was a steady but small gust of wind, chilling him, causing his long black cape to billow out behind him. He walked with his head bowed, eyes on the ground. He felt regret, anger, sadness... betrayal. It wasn't really his fault he was so mean and psychotic back in Battle City... he was created by anger and hatred, the two feelings he'd only ever known. He didn't have much of a choice, so he went along with it, enjoying the ride.

He couldn't understand why people around him were scared of him, why they were angry at what he'd done. The only feelings he had known were anger and hatred... all the rest were nothing to him, as he'd never felt them before. But now he felt them all. He now knew how everyone around him felt back in Battle City...

He knew how Jounouchi felt when he'd trapped Mai in the Shadow Realm... he felt Jou's anger and hatred towards him, and also felt his sadness... not to mention his determination to save his friend. He felt Ryou's pain and confusion when he ended up on the dueling platform, not knowing what was going on. He'd felt the pain of Jounouchi's friends, mainly Yugi, as he brutally defeated Jou in the semi-final duels. And most importantly, he felt Malik's pain, hurt, anger... Pain of being sent to the Shadow Realm, Hurt that his own Yami could do such things to him, and Anger when he didn't listen to what he or Ishizu had to say.

Back then, he didn't understand those feelings. Now that he did... he felt horrible for what he'd done. He regretted it all. He also felt sad... sad that his own Hikari had sent him to the Shadow Realm. He didn't blame Malik though... Malik had no choice. And being in the Shadow Realm had caused Marik to see his wrongs. Now he wanted nothing more but to be with Malik... to be a real Yami to him. Like Yami and Yugi or Bakura and Ryou.

He wanted a chance to start over with Malik... to protect him, keep him safe... love him.

Malik sighed softly as he sat down at the window of his apartment. His apartment faced the city park, Domino Park. Ishizu and Odion had returned back home to Egypt, but Malik couldn't go back there. It held too many bad memories of his childhood... memories he wished he didn't have. Besides, he had all his new friends here, Ryou and Bakura especially, and he didn't want to leave.

The only thing that was missing...

Malik sighed as his thoughts drifted to Marik again. He felt horrible for sending Marik, his very own Yami, to the Shadow Realm. But he had no choice. It was either he send Marik there himself and maybe get to see him again, or let Yami send him there and never see him again. He loved Marik so much. He understood why Marik did the things he did, and he knew it was his own fault and not Marik's. And for that he felt sad.

Many times he'd tried to forget Marik... to forget the past and move on, but he couldn't. He needed Marik. Even if he didn't want to admit it, he needed him... loved him... longed for him. Longed to have Marik by his side once again.

That's when an idea sparked in Malik head. If Malik was in the Shadow Realm, couldn't he just send himself there to find him? He didn't care if he'd be stuck there forever... as long as Marik was with him.
Spotting the Millennium Rod on the nightside table, Malik stood and picked it up, watching it glow in his hands, before fading down. He closed his eyes and relaxed, preparing to transport himself to the Shadow Realm. A light glowed around Malik's body, surrounding him. He could hear the door to his bedroom open, and heard Bakura's startled gasp.

"Malik! What're you doing?!" Bakura gasped, eyes wide in shock.

Opening his eyes, Malik looked calmly to Bakura, tears streaming down his cheeks. "I can't do this anymore. Every night, I've prayed to Ra to let me forget. To forget my past... to forget... him. But I can't forget him. I-I'm nothing without him. I need him. I... I love him Bakura..."

By now Bakura was panicking as Malik was slowly starting to fade into the Shadows. This wasn't what was supposed to happen!

"Malik, stop it now! Please!"

"Why? I want to be with Marik... even if it means being trapped in the Shadow Realm with him. It's a risk I'm willing to take!" Malik said, his voice starting to sound farther away.

Malik closed his eyes again, but they snapped open as he felt a pair of arms around his waist, pulling him back into the real world. His first thought was that it was Bakura, but Bakura was standing in front of him, wearing a small smirk on his face. And the arms around his waist were from behind. Turning slowly, Malik's eyes widened as he spotted Marik.

"M-Marik?" Malik whimpered, reaching a hand up to touch Marik's cheek, to make sure he was infact real, and that he wasn't hallucinating again.

"Yes... Hikari. I'm here..." Marik said softly, his usually evil voice sounding softer and more caring now, "I've realized what I'd done wrong... and I wish to fix things with you. I love you Malik..."
Malik sniffled and hugged Marik tightly, clinging to him, not wanting to let go. Not now, not ever. And he didn't plan to, either.
