Chapter One
by Ravenx
A gentle breeze floats across the sky, blowing bright green leaves back and forth on the branches of tall, strong trees. Birds sing loudly as they glide through the large fluffy white clouds, their wings spread out casting moving shadows over the ground. A little family of tan rabbits hop around a field of yellow flowers, the sweet fragrance filling the cool air.
A giggle is the only warning before small feet run across the field, the flowers seeming to move out of the way to form a path. The feet continue running until they reach the other side of the field, stopping when they feel cool, crystal clear water lap at their skin. Another giggle sounds before a small slash is heard, ripples in the water quickly disappearing.
Another set of feet come running after the first, stopping at the edge of the water. A reflection in the smooth surface shows a boy with long pale blonde hair standing by the small pond. An airy, pale green piece of cloth hangs around his hip, showing off his thin legs. A necklace of brown cord hangs around his neck, the small round stone of dark orange attached to it rolls slightly around his bare chest as his light violet eyes look around the pond.
“Where did he go?” Another reflection joins the first, this slightly shorter one with long white hair. A thin cloth of white hangs low on his slim hips with another piece of matching cloth wrapping lightly around his chest and shoulders, his arms bare. A necklace of black cord wraps loosely around his neck with a small round stone of white laying on top of his shirt. His light brown eyes look around the pond like the pale blonde.
“I think he went into the water.”
“Is that not cheating?” The white haired boy whispers.
“Yes, it is.”
“Has he already last you two?” A voice asks from behind the other two boys.
A taller boy with short sandy blonde hair stands with his hands on his thin hips. The light, pale brown cloth he wears around his hips blowing gently in the nice breeze. A shirt of the same colored cloth is around his chest, only a small potion of the material covering one shoulder, the other bare. A brown cord lies around his neck with a small round gem of dark red hanging above his shirt. His honey colored eyes almost twinkle in the bright light of the sun over head.
“He is cheating. He dove into the pond.” The pale blonde whips his head back around to the pond when he hears a giggle only to find the smooth surface unbroken.
“You know using our powers is not permitted in the game, Yugi.” The sandy blonde steps up onto a large boulder at the edge of the water, his bare feet warming on the sun bathed stone.
“We know you can hear us, Yugi. Come out.” The small white haired boy slowly sits down on the bank of the pond, crossing his legs and resting his elbows on his knees.
“You guys are no fun.” A small tri-colored spiky head pops out of the water, the surface barely moving as the boy swims over to his friends.
“We can not swim like you, therefore you are cheating.” The pale blonde states as he sits next to the white haired boy, his feet dipping into the cool water.
“But what fun would it be without our powers?” The tri-colored haired boy tucks a lock of blonde hair behind a slightly pointed ear.
“Quit whining, Yugi.” The tall sandy blonde sits on the edge of the rock facing his friends.
“Why do you get to make the rules, Joey?” Yugi floats on his back, his light purple eyes looking up at the sandy blonde. His black cord necklace with a small round light blue gem floating on top of the water.
“Because I am the oldest.”
“I am just three years younger than you.” The pale blonde states. “Why do I not get to make rules?”
“Because you would have us doing crazy, dangerous things, Malik.” The white haired boy giggles as the pale blonde pushes him playfully.
“I would not.”
“You can not say that Ryou is not telling the truth.” Joey smiles down at the two on the grass.
“Maybe he is right.”
“You know I am.” Ryou giggles as he moves to lean against the rock, his light brown eyes watching as Yugi climbs out of the water.
A light, pale blue fabric hangs wet on the boy’s hips, a matching shirt with short sleeves clings to his upper body. Sitting between Ryou and Malik, Yugi leans back to lay on the soft, warm grass, his shirt riding up slightly to reveal a smooth, flat stomach.
The boys are silent for several minutes letting the sun beat down on their cool flesh. A splash is heard as a small duck waddles into the pond on the opposite side from the boys. The branches of the surrounding trees wave a little in the nice breeze blowing, a few green leaves floating to the ground.
“Amin fauka.(2)” Malik speaks into the quiet air.
“Then go get something to drink.” Joey’s honey colored eyes look over the field of flowers behind the four boys as he runs a hand through his thick sandy blonde hair, his slightly pointed ears twitching as they listen to the surroundings.
“Will none of you come with me?”
“Are you afraid to go looking alone?” Ryou asks.
“Of course not. I am far braver than you, wilwarin.(3)” Malik chuckles as he turns and runs off through the field.
“Is something wrong, Joey?” Yugi sits up on his elbows, his bright purple eyes watching the sandy blonde.
“No, I just thought I heard something.”
“Mani?(4)” Ryou glances over his shoulder at Joey.
“It was nothing. Probably just the animals, they have been more active lately.”
“Yes, why is that?” Yugi sits all the way up, moving his attention to the field of yellow flowers.
“I do not know. Maybe something is coming that has them worried.”
“Like what?” Ryou wonders aloud.
“I am not sure.”
“Even though you did not wish to come with me, I was nice enough to bring you guys something back.” Malik says as he reemerges from the flower field, his arms filled with different kinds of fruit.
“That was kind of you, Malik.” Joey smiles as he reaches for a ripe, red apple.
“Diola lle.(5)” Yugi and Ryou giggle as they speak at the same time, Ryou taking several small, bright red strawberries while Yugi grabs a light green pear.
“Lle creoso.(6)” Malik sits down next to Yugi, his fingers digging into the large orange he has left for himself.
“Did you see anything while you were gone?” Joey asks around a mouthful of juicy apple.
“No. Why?”
“Joey thinks he heard something.” Yugi answers, his own mouth full of pear.
“I did not see or hear anything. Are you sure you heard something, Joey?”
“Like I told them, it must have been the animals.”
“Either that or you are getting too old.” Ryou giggles, his lips stained red from his berries.
“Aiya, dina!(7)” Joey sticks his tongue out at his white haired friend.
“I am getting bored. Can we play again?” Yugi starts to chew around the core of his pear.
“If you do not cheat this time, then yes.”
“I will not. I promise.”
“I say we try to catch Ryou this time.” The sticky juice of the orange runs down Malik’s chin as he eats the sweet fruit.
“No, he is always to hard to catch.” Yugi pouts.
“That makes it more fun. I agree with Malik.” The sandy blonde jumps down off the large boulder, tossing the apple core out into the field of flowers.
“Fine, I guess I agree as well.” Yugi stands next to the sandy blonde after throwing his pear core to follow the apple core, his now dry pale blue clothes hanging loosely from his small body.
“Do I not get asked about this?” Ryou looks up at his friends as he plays with the green tops of the now eaten strawberries.
“Do you not wish to play?” Yugi pouts.
“You had best agree, Ryou. No one can resist that look.” Malik chuckles as he throws the orange peel into the field and leans down to wash his face in the cool water of the pond to remove the sweet juice of the fruit before standing up.
“Then I guess I am the one you are after.” Without warning the white haired boy leaps up and dashes across the field of flowers, his hair flying behind him.
“Remember no powers.” Joey shouts after his younger friend.
“How long should we give him before we chase?” Yugi asks.
“Not long. Even without the use of his powers, Ryou is very fast.” Malik stretches his hands over his head, his light violet eyes looking after where Ryou disappeared.
“I think that has been long enough.” Joey takes off after the white haired boy, Malik and Yugi right behind him.
As the three exit the field of flowers they split up, Joey continuing straight ahead into a sparse group of large oak trees. Yugi moves to the right, his bare feet gently crushing the crisp, green grass in his way. Running around a tree to the left, Malik keeps his eyes moving back and forth, his pale blonde hair flying out behind him.
Honey colored eyes glance up into the tall trees around him, his long legs carrying him easily over the roots sticking up from the ground. As his slightly pointed ears hear a faint noise he stops running, turning to the left he sees a small movement behind one of the older trees. Walking slowly, his feet making no noise, he sneaks around the tree one of his hands reaching out to grab at a wisp of fabric. Suddenly his hand is pulled around the tree.
Joey comes face to face with a slightly taller boy with brown hair and matching brown eyes. A piece of light, pale orange fabric wraps around his waist, his bare chest glistening in the sunlight. His fingers clasps around Joey’s slender yet strong wrist to pull him up against him.
“Quel andune,(8) Joey.”
“Quel anduna, Tristian.” The sandy blonde smiles nicely into the dark brown eyes of the other boy.
“What are you doing out here by yourself? You are usually with the other three elementals.”
“I am. We are playing a game.” Joey begins to gently tug at his still held wrist.
“Really? I am sure they will not miss your presence if you decide to spend some time with another friend.” Tristian pulls Joey’s wrist until he is against his chest, his other arm wrapping loosely around the sandy blonde’s waist.
“I must keep an eye on them. You know they are always getting into trouble. I am sorry, Tristian, but I must go find them.”
“Why can we never have some alone time?”
“Tristian, please release me. I have told you many times that we are just friends. I do not like you the way you like me.”
“Maybe because you have not given it a chance. You know I would treat you well. Why do you not wish to be with me?” Tristian frowns down at his friend.
“You only wish to be with me because I am an elemental.”
“No, I wish to be with you because I have known you since we were elflings. We have grown up together and in all these years I have fallen in love with you.”
“I am truly sorry, mellonamin(9), but I do not feel the same way as you. Now please release.”
Tristian looks deeply into Joey’s honey colored eyes before sighing, letting go of the slim wrist he holds. His arm moves away from Joey’s waist as he leans back against the rough, tree trunk.
“Very well. Maybe one day you will come to love me as I love you.”
Joey smiles sadly at his friend before turning and running into a group of closely growing trees, their branches casting cool shadows over the ground.

Yugi’s bare feet dig into the wet ground of a small stream, the water reflecting the rays of sun that cut through the surrounding trees. His light purple eyes glance around but only sees a couple of bright red birds picking worms from the ground. The small elf’s ears wiggle slightly as he hears a noise behind him.
“Ryou?” Yugi turns toward the noise to see a figure walking toward him. “Amin sinta lle?(10)”
“I hope so.” A soft feminine voice comes from the approaching form.
“Tea? Is that you?”
“Yes, Yugi. Quel re.(11)” A girl with short brown hair and wide brown eyes smiles as she reaches the small elf, her loose, light pink skirt flowing in the wind. The same type of fabric wraps around her breast, the skin on her bare stomach and shoulders is smooth and pale.
“Quel re. What are you doing out here, Tea?”
“Just talking a walk.” She looks over her left shoulder before continuing. “Truthfully I am trying to get away from Tristian.”
“Is he talking about Joey again?” Yugi giggles.
“Yes. He will not stop. He keeps talking about their future together.”
“Does he realize that Joey does not love him?”
“He should. Joey has told him so many times. My brother just has a very thick head.” Tea smiles, her brown eyes sparkling in the light reflecting off the stream.
“I would have to agree with you on that.”
“So, where are the others?”
“We are playing, trying to catch Ryou.”
“Good luck then, Yugi. Ryou is a hard one to catch.”
“That he is. Do you wish to join us?”
“No thank you. I should get back to Tristian. Besides I must start gathering some fruit for tonight’s meal. Will you and the others be joining us?”
“I do not know. Most likely, it just depends on what the others want to do.”
“Well, if you choose to join us then you are welcome.”
“Thank you, Tea.”
“Have fun.” The girl slowly walks off the way she came.
“I will, namaarie.(12)” Yugi turns letting his small legs carry him through a patch of tall grass, the blades reaching up to his waist.
A nice cool breeze drifts off across the tall grass causing Yugi’s spiky hair to blow into his face. Stopping, he brushes the silky strands of hair out of his eyes. A snapping twig to his left catches his attention, looking over he sees a his pale blonde friend walking toward him.
“Did you find him, Malik?”
“No. The little wilwarin is quick. Have you seen Joey?” The taller boy moves to stand next to his shorter friend.
“N’uma.(13) Perhaps he has caught him.”
“I do not think so. We have never been able to catch Ryou.”
“Then why did you suggest he be the one running?”
“I was wanting a challenge but this is too great of one.” Malik chuckles.
“You do not find him so you decide to stop and laugh?” A voice calls from behind an oak tree near them.
“Have you found him, Joey?” Yugi asks.
“No.” The sandy blonde moves out from behind the tree.
“Then you have no room to talk.” Malik crosses his arms over his bare chest.
“I say we call for Ryou to come out from hiding. This is getting boring.” Yugi brushes a hand over the tops of the blades of grass.
“You are the one that wanted to play in the first place.” Joey smiles.
“I know and now I try of playing. Let us work together to find Ryou.”
“Where shall we search?” Malik’s light violet eyes look around them.
“Let us search in the woods to the north.” Joey points in the direction of a large row of trees.
“The north? Is that not dangerous?” Yugi frowns.
“We have searched this area and have not found him. So we move to the north.”
“Ryou would not venture that far.”
“It is alright, Yugi. Ryou knows not to go far to the north.” Malik smiles down at his small friend.
“Come, let us go find him.” Joey runs through the tall grass.

Ryou slowly leans around a tall, dark oak tree, his bright brown eyes looking around in the shadows. Walking quickly to the next tree, he presses his body up against it. Leaning around to the left he glances around, a soft moan causing his head to snap to the right. Edging around the tree he sees the top of a pale blonde head laying on a thick root a couple feet away from him.
“Malik? Is that you?” Only a moan answers him. “Are you injured?”
Ryou quickly moves to stand over the pale blonde only to gasps and move a step back. Lying on the ground is a pale blonde elf, his hair wet with sweat covering the ground around his head showing off his pointed ears. Tight, dark brown, leather pants encase his legs and cover the tops of leather boots. Thick, dark brown leather straps are wrapped around his wrists. The loose, slightly lighter brown sleeveless shirt he wears is ripped across the middle. Several large holes can be seen through the cloth on the pale elf’s stomach.
A pair of dark violet eyes snap open to look directly at Ryou. An arm reaches out to the smaller white haired boy as Ryou backs away slowly. Only moving a couple of feet back, Ryou bumps into a solid yet soft obstacle. Quickly he turns around to look into dark purple eyes. A tall elf with multi-colored hair, similar to Yugi’s, stands with his hands on burgundy colored leather hips. A form fitting black leather tank top covers his chest. He smirks down at the frightened boy.
“Well, look what we have here. A kalina’quessir.(14) Just what we need.”
“What are you?”
“I think you know what we are.” Another voice speaks from Ryou’s left, the white haired boy looks over to see a tall brown haired elf with ice blue eyes. The boy wears tight, black leather pants that hang over black leather boots. A long black leather trench coat is wrapped tightly around his upper body, latched shut by silver buckles, but the bottom flares out around his legs. As the boy moves around Ryou can see a design of a large dragon in silver stitching on the back of the coat.
“Mori’quessirea?(15)” Ryou’s voice squeaks out as he tries to keep his eyes on all three of the other elves.
“Yes.” The tri-colored haired elf nods.
“Why are you in this part of the world? You are forbidden to be here.”
“We are forbidden from no where, elle’quessir.(16)” The tall brunette snaps as he bends down next to the pale blonde on the ground.
“Enough of this mindless talking. We must get Marik better.” A new voice speaks from Ryou’s left, turning the white haired elf stares in shock at a taller version of himself. Long, spiky white hair falls over a loose, black long sleeved shirt that is tucked into a pair of tight black leather pants. The leather boots he wears crunches the ground under him as he walks closer, his dark brown eyes looking Ryou up and down.
“You are correct, Bakura. You, elle’quessir, will heal our friend.” The tall tri-colored elf motions to the pale blonde.
“I will do no such thing.” Ryou tries to move away, only to be grabbed around his upper arm by the elf named Bakura.
“You will do as we say or else.”
“I think not.” Ryou whispers before vanishing out of Bakura’s grasps and reappearing high up on a branch in a nearby tree.
“What? Where did he go?” Bakura turns around in a circle, his dark brown eyes searching the area.
“Up there.” The brunette points to the branch holding Ryou’s squatting form.
“So he is not just a kalina’quessir but an elemental as well.” Moving forward, the tri-colored haired elf smiles.
“How are we to capture an elemental?” Bakura growls.
“How ever we do it we have to get him fast. Marik is slipping.” The brunette moves the brown shirt away from the pale blonde’s stomach, a large amount of blood runs down the pale side to pool on the ground.
“Come elemental. Would you really allow another elf to die?” The tri-colored haired boy steps up to the tree holding the white haired elf.
“Mori’quessirea do not care what lives or dies. By law I should not help you.”
“We have no time for talking. Faina templa.(17)” Bakura raises his hand to the branch that Ryou squats on, an electric blue and white bolt of energy leaps from his palm through the wood near the trunk.
Ryou squeaks as the branch under him breaks, sending him toppling to the ground only to be caught in a firm grip by Bakura. The taller white haired boy wraps his arms around Ryou’s waist tightly as the smaller elf begins to struggle, his arms flying out behind him and connecting to a solid jaw. When the arms around his waist loosen slightly, Ryou quickly squirms out from them and starts to run to a group of trees.
“Tempa en’tessa!(18)” The tall tri-colored elf points two fingers at the fast moving boy’s back, an invisible force throws the white haired elf to the grown with a scream. “Go get him, Bakura.”
The other white haired boy nods as he turns and runs the short distance to the fallen form. Moving closer to the pale blonde and brunette, the tri-colored boy kneels.
“How is he, Seto?”
“He is not doing good, Yami. He needs to be healed soon or it will be too late.” Ice blue eyes look up as Bakura lays the still boy next to Marik.
“Let me go, ksherea.(19)” Ryou screams only to have his mouth covered by Bakura’s hand.
“Calm yourself, elle’quessir. All you have to do is heal our friend and you shall be let go unharmed.” Yami speaks.
“I suggest you release him now.” A voice calls from behind Yami, who turns to see a sandy blonde elf between two others.
“So the elle’quessir has friends?” Seto’s ice blue eyes glance over the three new arrivals, mainly focusing on the sandy blonde in the middle.
“Be off with you elflings. Your friend will be returned to you after he helps us.” Yami stands.
“We are not elflings.” Malik growls.
“Give us our friend, I will not ask again.” Joey tightens his fist into balls at his side.
“And I shall not tell you again, you will have him after he has helped our friend.” Yami moves closer to the new arrivals.
“Tua amin!(20)” Ryou cries out.
“It will be alright, Ryou. We will get you away from these foul creatures.” Malik falls quickly to the ground, his bare knees digging into the soft earth. His hands move to lay palms down on the ground. “Tintila kemen!(21)”
The earth under the elves’ feet begins to quake, the trees shaking causing leaves to fall like rain. Yami looses his footing and falls back landing across the legs of the unconscious Marik. Seto gracefully stands up, his ice blue eyes watching as the sandy blonde lunges forward to knock Bakura away from Ryou. Seeing the opportunity he reaches out and grabs the loose fabric of the sandy blonde’s shirt, yanking the boy over Marik and into his arms.
“What do you think you are doing?” Seto hisses into Joey’s close ear.
“Remove your hands from me.”
“I do not think so.”
“Koron en’ naur.(22)” Joey thrust his palm against Seto’s chest, the brunette yells into the sky as dark orange and black ball of fire hits his chest, sending him backward into a tree trunk.
Yami finally gets back to his feet on the still shaking ground, looking over his dark purple eyes see Malik with his hands still pressed to the earth.
“Neuma en’ templa.(23)” Yami raises his hand in the direction of the kneeling pale blonde.
A yell is heard as Malik is wrapped in a clear gray force field. The ground stops quaking as Yami turns to cast the same spell at the sandy blonde that is currently trying to unbind Ryou. Another yelp is heard as Joey is covered in the same gray field as Malik.
“Bakura, Seto, are you two well?”
“I am fine.” Bakura stands, dusting the dirt out of his hair.
“I am well if not a little burned.” Seto rejoins them with a large round scorch mark on the front of his leather coat.
“These elementals are powerful.” Bakura leans down to brush a lock of white hair out of Ryou’s eyes.
“Get your hands off of me.”
“Be silent.” Yami commands.
“Yes, be silent, elle’quessir.”
“I was talking to you as well, Bakura.”
“Why me?”
“Because their were three beside this one.” Seto motions toward the scared Ryou.
“Where did the other one go?” Yami’s dark purple eyes look around.
“He was small, easy to loose.” The tall brunette moves away from his friends.
“Perhaps if we kill one of his friends he will show himself.” Bakura smirks.
“No!” A voice calls from behind a small tree.
“Come out here so that we shall see you.” Yami watches closely as a smaller version of himself steps out from behind the tree.
“Please do no harm to my friends.” Yugi’s wide light purple eyes glance at his friends.
“You and your friends will be unharmed if you heal our friend.” Yami points down at the still pale blonde.
“We have no time to waste. Heal him now.” Bakura growls.
Yugi yelps as his arm is roughly grabbed and dragged to the ground next to Marik. His eyes take in the large amount of blood pooling on the earth and the large teeth marks embedded in the skin of the pale blonde’s side.
“What has happened to him?”
“A wolfhound got a bite of him. Can you heal him?” Yami bends down next to the shaking elf.
“Yes.” Yugi rest his hands several inches away from the marks on the pale blonde and closes his eyes. “Tanka harwar.(24)”
A glowing white light escapes from his hands and flows down onto the wound. Slowly the dark red blood runs from the ground back to the cuts, disappearing into the body that it came from. The flesh starts to pull back together, within a couple minutes the skin is flawless. Marik takes a deep breath before sitting straight up, his dark violet eyes wide. His hands fall to his now healed side.
“How are you, Marik?” Yami asks.
“Much better.” The pale blonde coughs slightly as he is helped to stand by Seto.
“Next time you will have to be more careful on a hunt.” Seto smirks.
“Who are they?” Marik looks at the smaller elves.
“Just some kalina’quessirea. This one saved you.” Yami runs a hand lightly down Yugi’s arm causing the small tri-colored haired boy to shiver.
“I guess I owe you my life, elle’quessir.” Marik steps away from Yugi and moves over to Malik who is still kneeling on the ground, his body froze in the clear gray force field. “Who is this beautiful one?”
“We do not know his name.” Bakura says. “Only this ones.” He runs a hand over Ryou’s soft cheek. “Ryou.”
“Please let me go.” The smaller white haired elf pleads.
“We promised we would so we will. We thank you for saving our friend.” Yami says.
Seto and Marik walk to a line of dark, tall trees. While Bakura winks at Ryou as he gets up.
“I hope to see you soon, elle’quessir.”
“Namaarie for now.” Yami begins to walk after the white haired elf.
“But what of my friends?” Yugi quietly calls out.
“Oh yes.” Yami moves back to Yugi’s side and leans down to whisper in his ear. “Just cast the spell ‘tyela neuma’(25) on your friends. Unfortunately Ryou will have to wait for his spell to wear off. It should in a couple hours.”
Yugi blushes as the other elf’s breath ghost across his cheek as he leans back, a smile on his smooth, pale face.
“Mani naa essa en lle?(26)” Yami whispers.
“Yugi, morier.(27)” Yugi whispers back.
Yami nods his head as he runs off after his fellow elves into the forest that is covered in darkness. No light can be seen through the spaces in the trees as the tall tri-colored hair boy disappears with an unseen smile on his face.

Chapter One
