WHAT JOEY KNOWS ABOUT VOICES
TITLE/S: What Joey Knows About Voices
PAIRING/S: I guess it could qualify as a slight Joey/Tristan: read into it what you will!
DISCLAIMER/S: Almost forgot - I don't actually own any YGO related money-making things... oh, some cards, yes, but not the important things, like hothot boylove.

WHAT JOEY KNOWS ABOUT VOICES
Joey knew all about voices breaking and shit, and, you know, -puberty-. You just -knew- that sort of stuff when you were, like, fourteen or whatever. So it wasn't really -surprising- how their voices changed, but it was still sort of, you know, weird. And also... well, Tristan's voice just went so... -stupid-.
He'd never noticed how much someone's voice was like a part of them. You just -don't-, until they go and change on you, and they sound like -idiots-. And Tristan -did- (sound like an idiot). Even dumber than Joey (not that Joey admits to sounding stupid).
Anyway, so Joey couldn't get his head around this new Tristan, because suddenly Tristan's dumb comments weren't really that funny. They were just... -dumb-. But, you know, Joey wasn't gonna -tell- him or nothing, coz it didn't seem -fair-. You know, Joey's accent was a bit put on or whatever (well, overemphasised or whatever), but Tristan couldn't -help- sounding like a stupid fuck. So Tristan only copped a little bit, but something about the voice really, -really- annoyed Joey. Annoyed him in a -What the fuck, pal, can't ya just freakin' COUGH or something?- kind of way. But, yeah, he never said anything back then, so it sort of sat there between him and Tristan, like a secret -he- knew, but Tristan didn't (which, he supposed, was exactly what it was).
But something changed one day, and Joey can't think exactly when it was, but it must have been some time between the start of Duellist Kingdom and now, and it didn't really happen -one day-, or it might have, except Joey never noticed it changing, so it couldn't have been that abrupt, could it? And he can't figure out -why- it happened, and he doesn't want to, coz, man, he doesn't want to -know- if it has anything to do with Serenity (or Duke), and he doesn't want to know if it happened because of something he said at a drunken party (because sometimes Tristan and him go to those without the others).
Actually, he doesn't want to remember -what- he's said on those nights, you know? Because he's pretty sure that, one time, he and Tristan were joking around, stumbling home, leaning against each other -perfectly sober, thank you-, and they'd been talking about hot chicks (and Joey knows what a cliche is, and he knows that's one of them, coz he's not -that- stupid), and about who they'd rather kiss, and Joey said Mai, and Tristan said Serenity (so maybe they weren't -that- sober, coz, hey, Tristan -knows- he's gonna get whacked when he says that shit to Joey). And after they stopped fighting, Tristan said that he reckoned Joey would rather kiss him than let him kiss Serenity, and Joey saw that as a challenge, obviously, so he grabbed Tristan around the back of his neck and pulled him down to the same height, and then murmured that Tristan was pretty much right about that, but that he couldn't bring himself to snog someone with such a -stupid freakin' voice-. So Tristan jabbed him in the guts, which made them knock noses (and that's a head-butt in -anyone's- terms), and the fight was on again. And Joey doesn't want to think about it, because he ended up with a black eye, and Tristan sprained his finger pretty bad. Although it -was- a speccy black eye, and Tristan didn't have to do homework for a week (bastard).
But it was -some-time around then, anyway, that it happened. Joey still can't figure out why (because even if he knows all about puberty and shit, and sex and that stuff, doesn't mean that he knows -everything-, alright?). In fact, he really only noticed it just before, when Tristan came up to him at the lockers and said -Hey, Wheeler, what?s up?- and asked if Joey wanted to, you know, come over to his place tonight to watch "Die Hard With a Vengeance", coz it was on telly. And Joey noticed, finally.
Tristan's voice was normal.
