Chapter 1
A long time ago in a galaxy far away…
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yugi stood on the bridge of the ship, looking out into the vast darkness of space. His eyes drifted over the patterns that the stars made, and managed to make out a nearby planet, that he suspected was probably uninhabited.
“Sir, we have an incoming message from King Yami.” A woman announced, and Yugi nodded.
“Put it on.” He said.
“Yes sir.” She said, and a screen lowered out of the ceiling. Yugi looked up to the platform in front of the screen and narrowed his eyes, then vanished, only to reappear on the platform before the screen. It flickered for a moment before a face, much like Yugi’s, only older, appeared on it, and smiled at Yugi.
“Hello Yugi. Good trip so far?”
“Fine, Yami.” Yugi said, smiling at his older brother, and the King of his people. “We should be approaching the ship with the Assyrian’s Ambassador within the next two hours.”
“Excellent. I’m counting on you, Yugi. We need this alliance with Emperor Bakura if either one of us are to live to see Pharaoh Marik fall.”
“I know, 'ni-san.” Yugi said with a nod. “From what I’ve heard, Bakura’s ambassador is his little brother, and he hates war. Honestly, the Assyrian Prince sounds like he has a lot in common with me. I’m sure that a treaty will be drawn up and signed in no time.” Yugi said, and Yami smiled.
“I have faith in you, Otouto.” Yami said, just as some lights began flashing. Yugi turned.
“What’s going on?” He demanded. An officer teleported to Yugi’s side, his face grim.
“Sir, I was going to wait until you finished your meeting with his Highness…” And the man bowed to the frowning King on the screen. “But we had picked up the Assyrian Ambassador ship on our scopes.”
“And?” Yugi said.
“Then we picked up an unidentifuied ship.”
“And?” Yugi promted. A woman appeard, making the platform a bit crowded
“Sir, the Assyrian ship just sent us a distress call, but before it was finished, both ships dropped off of our scopes.” The woman said, and Yugi turned to look at his alarmed brother on the screen.
“Get to the sight of their last transmission immediately!” Yami ordered, and the two officers teleported back to their stations.

~My lord….~ A tentative voice encroached upon the thoughts of the man standing before a great window out onto the stars. The sender of the message entered the throne room on the Imperial Star Ship.
“What?” A young man snapped, turning fierce brown eyes on the man, obviously preferring to discuss this vocally, rather than telepathically.
“I’m afraid I have bad news.”
“Great. Fuckin’ great. This day can’t get any worse.” Bakura grumbled, and slumped into his throne, rubbing his forehead. “So what is it?”
“It, it’s about Prince Ryou’s mission….”
“Fuck. The damn telporters refuse to make peace, eh? The stupid little Sumerian Runt of a Prince wouldn’t make a treaty with Ryou?” The Emperor of the Telepaths grumbled.
“Um, on the contrary, sir. We are in contact with Prince Yugi as we speak. It seems that Prince Ryou never, um, made it to the conference….” The man trailed off when he saw his Emperor stiffen. Slwoly, Bakura lowered his hand, revealing furious, but worried eyes. He stood.
“Put me in contact with him.” He ordered, and the window before him was suddenly filled with the picture of the Sumerian Prince, and, on a screen behind him, the King of the Sumerian Teleporters. “King Yami. Prince Yugi.” Bakura said, bowing slightly to them.
“Emperor Bakura.” The pair said in unison, returning the bow. Now finished with the formalities, Bakura’s eyes narrowed.
“Where’s my brother?” He snarled, and Yugi bit his lower lip.
“Well, sir, not long after Prince Ryou’s ship appeared on our scopes, a second ship appeared. Then, the Prince’s ship sent out a distress call, and then both dropped out of our sights. We got to the sight as soon as we could, and, well…….” Yugi trailed off.
“AND?!?” Bakura screamed, heart pounding.
“Turn on the outside vision for Emperor Bakura.” Yami called over his screen, and a moment later, a view of what was outside of Yugi’s ship appeared before Bakura. His heart froze, and his eyes widened as he slowly fell to his knees. The twisted burning piece of metal was barely recognizable as Ryou’s transport. But there, on the hull, was the circle with the triangle in the middle with five points pointing straight down from the circle; the Assyrian Imperial Crest. And now, he knew who the other ship was. For it had left it’s mark; burned into the Assyrian Crest was the Egyptonian Imperial Crest; a circle with wing-like shapes coming from the sides. This attack was the doing of the Egyptonian Telekinetic ruler, Pharaoh Marik.
Yugi and Yami appeared on the screen, but Bakura did not see them. He had his eyes closed and had his head down as he sat on his hands and knees, trying not to cry.
“Bakura…” Yami called, softly, feeling his heart go out to the man who was his enemy. “Should we play the distress call?” Slowly, Bakura nodded. It began with static, but every now and then, a voice came through.
“—came out – owhere, invaded the – went straight for the Prince! Took – captive, and -- killing us all!! Help, please---arming weapons---Prince captive — taking fire—have the Prince--MAYDAY!! MAYDAY!! MAY---------“
Two words continued to echo in Bakura’s head. ‘Prince captive, Prince captive, Prince captive…’ Not caring that Yami and Yugi were watching him, he slammed his fists into the floor.
“NO!!! GODS, NO!!!”
“Bakura…” Yami called, gently. “It is safe to assume that your brother is alive and is being taken to Egyptonia. Peace conference or not, may I consider our planets at peace?” A ragged sob came from Bakura as he nodded and slowly stood.
“Yes. Yes. We are at peace, Yami.” Bakura said, quietly.
“I shall send word to my forces. They are to team up with yours and recover the Prince.” Yami said, and Bakura nodded, slumping into his throne.
“I am in your debt. And I will gladly relinquish my crown to you if your forces should return Ryou safely.” Bakura mumbled, and Yami gave him a small smile.
“As enticing as that is, I will not take advantage of you like that. Until later.” And the screen flickered off, leaving Bakura staring out at the stars. And only then did he stop fighting his tears.

Well? What do you think? Not sure where the idea came from, I’m not much into Sci-Fi like this, but oh well. It came to me while I was playing HALO, and there you go. It kind of reminds me of Star Wars and Star Gate. Who knows, right? Anyway, next chapter will be a flashback of Ryou’s capture, and we see where he is now.
