Chapter 1: New Student



Jayze walked across the field to the Domino High School.

//What a strange place...// She thought. //I thought it would be...more cheerful to say the least. // She shrugged and pushed the main entrance doors open and walked in. A small, chubby woman sat behind a counter. She looked up and a smile broke out on her face.

''Hello there, you must be Jayze Amon. Welcome to Domino High! Please follow me and I can show you the way to your first class." She motioned for Jayze to follow her.

// Things here might not seem so bad anyways!// Jayze nodded and followed the woman across the hall.

"Jayze?" A question took her out of her thoughts. She looked at the secretary and tilted her head. "As i was saying, there are four types of hallways in Domino high. White, Blue, Green. and Yellow. The White hallways are the school main hallways; the Blue hallways are for the 10-12 grade classes. The Green hallways are for the 7-9 graders and their classes. The yellow hallways are study halls, there is no noise allowed since there are students studying there. Do get it all?"

//Yeah, I do. Thank you for explaining.// Jayze nodded.

"Good, now I heard you are a tenth grader? So here we are in the blue hallways. Your first class is math class, unfortunately this is the last period of the day and there is only 15 minutes left of the class. Hope you have a nice day Jayze!" The woman smiled and walked away waving goodbye.

//Alright. Here we go nothing can stop me now. // She closed her eyes and knocked on the door.

A smart looking man opened the door and took a look at her.
'' Hey there, you must be Jayze. Welcome to Domino high."

//I'm sensing Deja Vu...// Jayze thought
The math teacher smiled and continued. "My name is Mr. Hakiro and welcome to math class."

He led her into the center of the room and announced "Everybody, this is Jayze Amon the new exchange student from Kyoto. I'd like you to all welcome her to our school!"

//Oh boy, I hate these introductions.// Jayze thought and smiled to the room. "Now, let's see where should I sit you? I know, between Yugi and Seto Kaiba. Yugi is the tricolore...”

//I know, there IS only one seat vacant in the class. // Still, Jayze nodded and took a seat between Seto and Yugi.

//So, remember Jayze, Yugi is the short one with the weird looking hair...... but looking at my own I think his looks normal.// Jayze twisted her fire red colored hair around her finger and continued her musings.

//Seto Kaiba...wait, isn't he the president of Kaiba Corp? So this is what he looks like. // Jayze stared at Yugi, then to Kaiba from the corner of her eyes.

"Hi, I’m Yugi. Nice to meet you!" Yugi extended a hand to her and waited. She accepted and shook his hand and smiled.

"Now, before we finish class I’d like to inform you all a couple of things. Jayze, can I tell them about..." Jayze nodded,

"Jayze has a disability, but don't worry we won't treat you any different."

//Oh boy, this usually means I’m gonna get all the special attention...//

"Jayze cannot talk." She registered the slight widening of Kaiba's eyes and the classes gasps. Jayze rolled her eyes and took a small Gaelic cross from her pocket and placed the tip in her mouth.

//Habit.//

"Now, class, introduce yourselves to Jayze so she can get to know you better. Starting with you Mai.''

"Hello." A tall pretty looking blonde said. "My name is Mai Valentine welcome to Domino." She finished and turned to a small green haired boy behind her.

"My name is Weevil Underwood welcome to the school."

//Stressed much? //

"My name is Joey Wheeler, nice to meet ya!" A blonde haired boy waved and grinned.

//He looks fun. Although he also looks like a womanizing pig.//

"I'm Tristan. Hey welcome to domino high!" Brown haired boy leaned back in his chair. "Your turn Tea!"

"Hi! My name is tea gardener and hope you have a nice time here in Tokyo!"

A silver haired boy who sat at the back smiled. "I'm Bak It' It's nice to meet you." In an English accent.

//Wow, cool accent! He's handsome too. I like his silver hair. // She thought

"My name is Marik." A blond boy with spiky hair said.
//All right. That's a cool name. Marik...// She nodded and smiled.

"You know me already. My name is Yugi Motou. It's nice to meet you!" He smiled and his violet eyes twinkled.

//He looks like he came out of a very happy fairytale! He's cute too. Now, Seto Kaiba it's your turn. //

"Seto Kaiba." He didn't even look her way.

//Ok, I get the picture… sheesh.// she nodded his way.

"Ok, since everyone has introduced themselves I’d like to say: math is over have a nice day kids!" Mr. Hakiro announced as all the students packed their bags and headed for the door.

//Briefcase Seto? That's weird i thought the school only allowed backpacks. But in the case of Kaiba Corp CEO's I think they make an exception.//

She opened her backpack. Inside were her pens, pencils and other school things. But among them all was a dueling disk.

//I never dueled before. I hope my deck is good enough. Before I came here, I studied hard around all the monsters. And I practiced duels against myself. I hope I can do this right. //

She stood up and walked over to the door. She waved to Mr. Hakiro goodbye and walked out the door.

//Now, where is my map...Here it is! This map shows me all around the school and it says that there is an exit to the field two doors down. //

She pushed open the doors and walked out.

"Hey kid!” Weevil called out. Jayze turned around and waited for Weevil to finish. "Hey new kid, can you duel?" Weevil asked.
Jayze nodded and Weevil and his cronies grinned. "Then I challenge you to a duel! Prepared to get toasted new kid!" He pulled out his dueling disc,t's t's get started already!"

Jayze nodded and took out her dueling disc. //Grandpa gave this to me. He said I would need it here. I'm not too used to it but let's go! // by now a crowd of kids had gathered around the two of them and were cheering for the duel to start.

"All right then. I'll go first!" Weevil stated and Jayze smiled in agreement.

*~The duel begins! ~*

"We each begin with 8000 life points. Now I will draw my cards!"


Jayze drew five cards from her deck and waited for Weevil to make his move. //I hope I’m ready for this... If I’m not this will be embarrassing.// Jayze gulped but made sure no one noticed it.

Weevil grinned. "My first move will be to summon a monster is face down defense mode and the magic card "Swords of revealing light." The swords stop you from attacking for 3 turns. I will place one more card face down and end my turn." He paused “Let’s see what you can do.”

Jayze drew a card from her deck. //”Trap hole” and my hand looks good too.” Fairy's Gift”, “Cyber Jar”, “Blackland Fire Dragon”, “Shining Abyss”, and “Hourglass of Courage”. // Jayze placed “Trap hole” face down on the field. // I summon "Blackland Fire Dragon" in attack mode! And end my turn. // Jayze showed a thumbs down that signified the end of her turn.

"Ok, but my "Swords of Revealing Light" stop you from attacking my monsters. I place another monster in face down defense mode and my turn is over." He grinned and said "Come on... I don't have all day! "

Jayze drew. //”Summoned skull”. I would sacrifice my monster for it but there are two problems. One is his face down monsters. From what I’ve heard Weevil likes insects and that means he coulve “ve “Man Eater Bugs” there. Another problem is that face down card of his. I could be a trap. It's not worth my “Summoned Skull” getting destroyed. //

Jayze placed “Fairy's Gift” in attack mode on the field and showed thumbs down. //That ends my turn. I wonder what Weevil will do now. //

Weevil drew his card and laughed. "Prepare to lose your life points! I sacrifice both my face down monsters and I summon “Insect Queen”! With and attack of 2200 and a defense of 2400 your monsters are toast!"

Jayze grinned //Not so fast Weevil! I activate my "Trap Hole", which destroys any monster on your field with an attack 1000 or higher. Take that! // Jayze watched as his “Insect Queen” was destroyed.

"NO! My “Insect Queen”! '' Weevil was red now. "You'll pay for that new kid!"

Jayze wondered about his dueling. //It was a hasty decision to summon a monster that powerful on the field right away. He didn't even wonder about my face down card and by the way, your turn ended! //

Jayze drew her next card, “Maiden of the Moonlight”. //Not a bad card at all. His “Swords of Revealing Light” would wear off by now. // She placed “Shining Abyss” on the field in attack mode. And ended her turn. The swords of revealing light was destroyed meaning that 3 turns had ended.

"I summon “Flying Kamakiri #2” in attack mode. Now attack her “Fairy's Gift!" His monster slashed away her fairy and lowered her attack points to 7900. "I will place another card face down and end my turn."

//Not a bad move at all Weevil. Let's see what i can dish up for ya'. // Jayze looked at the card she drew. //"Axe of Despair" all right!!! With this card my monster's attacintsints get raised by 1000! But, what about his two face down cards? I won't use my axe just yet. If I equip one of my monsters with it and should he destroy that monster with a trap card...it's not worth risking it. //

Jayze drew her "Maiden of the Moonlight" and placed it down on the field. //I summon my maiden in attack mode!//

"Not so fast new kid! I activate my trap card Torrential tribute! This destroys all the monsters on the field!"

//I knew it! Good thing my "Summoned Skull" and axe are still here. // Jayze didn't let her expression falter. //One wrong sign of weakness on your face and you're cooked. // she thought.

Jayze showed her thumbs down sign.

Weevil grinned. “I summon "Mechanical Spider" in attack mode! “Mechanical Spider", attack her life points directly!"

Jayze's life points lowered to 7500.

//Why would he place a weak monster on the field like that? Only an attack of 400, it's not going to do much damage. But his remaining face down card is another story. //

//Now, time to draw my card. Come on, I’m counting on you to help me! //

Jayze picked up a card. //Cool! "Ceremonial Bell". Even with only a defense of 1850 I can place it in defense mode. Its effect is to see all the cards in the opponent's hand! //

She placed her "Ceremonial Bell" in defense mode on the field and ended her turn.

"I activate dark hole and destroy all the monsters on the field including your monster in defense mode! Now I place a monster in defense mode and end my turn"

//What the hell is wrong with this guy?! Hell, if he keeps doing this no one is going to get anywhere!//

Jayze drew a card. //Aha, "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp". this guy is really gonna help me out here! //

She placed Jinn in attack mode on the field.

//Now! Attack his face down monster! //

"Nu uh! I use my trap “Mirror Force” which sends all your attacks back to you! So say good bye to your genie! ''

//No! Oh well. It's ok. I end my turn. //


"I summon another monster in defense mode and my turn ends."

//Ooook..Draw my card and voila! “Monster Reborn”! Now I can summon back any monster in the grave yard! and i think I will use his "Insect Queen!"//

Jayze placed monster reborn on the field. Weevil's eyes widened.

//That's right bug boy! Now, I summon your "Insect Queen" to the field in attack mode!// The large insect appeared on the dueling disc.

"No!'' Weevil looked angry.

//Hey, you shouldn't have destroyed my monsters like that! What about his monster? I don't know what they are so I have to be careful. Ok I’ll end this turn then. //

Weevil drew a card from his deck.

''All right. I sacrifice my two face down monsters and i summon another monster in defense mode!''

//Uh oh, I don't know what that thing is, but I bet it has high defense points. At least now I know it's not a materater bug! //

"I now end my turn. Go ahead new kid try to beat this one! I can see your monsters are strong but they are no match for mine!! Hahahahhaahahha!!!"

Jayze cringed. //Jesus Christ kid, keep the horribly done laughs to a minimum ok?//

Jayze drew her card. All right! “Mirror force”!!

//Ok, I summon "Hourglass of Courage" to the field in attack mode and I place my trap card face down on the field and end my turn. // Jayze showed thumbs down to Weevil.

"Ok, first I summon "Steel Scorpion" on the field in attack mode. Now, I turn my face down monster to attack mode." Weevil grinned as his "Insect Queen" showed up on the field.

"since my queen has to have a monster sacrificed for her to attack, I sacrifice "Steel Scorpion" and attack your hourglass!"

//What?!?!? He has two of those cards is his deck?!?!?//

"Now, I attack your hourglass! Go "Insect Queen" wipe out her life points!"

//Sorry dude, I activate mirror force. Bu bye "Insect Queen".//

"No! Not again! How dare you destroy my most powerful card! I'll get you for this!"

//ok//

"I end my turn."

//Now, draw my card and I get....."Yami!!" With this field card all spellcasters and fiend's attacks are raised by two hundred points. Now i sacrifice my “Insect Queen" and bring out "Summoned Skull". I attach "Axe of Despair" and raise its attack points by 1000! // She watched as Weevil took a step back.

//Next, I use "Yami!" And my "Summoned Skull'' raises its attack power even more! Oh and by the way, my hourglass? Its effect is to half its attack points for one turn on the field and for the remaining of the duel...double it! // She smiled

//So, now I have an hourglass with 2200 attack points and 2400 defense points, and my "Summoned Skull" whose attack points are 3700. Huh? Oh yeah, you also have no monsters on the field to defend you, nor any trap or magic cards. All right! Summoned skull! Hourglass of courage attack his life points directly! //

Weevil's life points lowered to 2100.

//Hehe. Serves you right for being so arrogant. A real duelist depends on his trust in his own abilities, not in the cards. With a level headed strategy and a belief in yourself, you can do anything. With or without strong cards. // She waited.

"I will get you for this!" Weevil nearly screamed. "How can you...you. A puny little amateur duelist defeat a champion like me????"

//I dunno... that's actually a good question. Since this is my first battle and all.//

Weevil drew his card and grinned. "Now, i use "Torrential Tribute" again and i destroy all monsters on the field. Including yours!"

Jayze face didn't falter. //No! My two monsters. But I can still turn the tables on him.//

"I have no monsters so I end my turn."

//Ok, my next card is my ancient elf! All right, I saved this card incase of an emergency so now I have to use it! I place “Cyber Jar" on the field in defense mode face down! And end my turn. //

"All right, and I drew a card that will end your life points! I summon Girochin Kuwagata! Attack her face down monster!"

//Hehe, you fell right into my trap bug boy. You see "Cyber Jar's" flip effect is so destroy all monsters on the field and we duelists are obligated to draw five cards from our decks. Any monster that does not require a sacrifice is immediately summoned to the field in attack or defense mode. It's your choice.//

"Why you..." Weevil drew his cards.

//Since you attacked my "Cyber Jar", your turn is over it's my turn now. // Jayze watched as from the five cars that Weevil drew only his "Steel Scorpion" was placed on the field.

//Now my turn.” Elf’s Light", "Vorse Raider", "Gemini Elf", "Harpie's Feather Duster", "Dunames Dark Witch" and "Graceful charity".//

//"Vorse Raider", "Gemini Elf" and "Dunames Dark Witch" are placed on the field in attack mode. Now, Dunames! Attack his "Steel Scorpion!"//

Weevil’s scorpion was destroyed and his life points were at 600. "Steel Scorpion's" effect was activated. The monster that destroyed "Steel Scorpion" Had only three turns until it was destroyed.

//No more monsters...I think you know what that means! Go "Vorse Raider" attack his life points directly!//

Weevil's life points dropped down to zero. Jayze's monsters disappeared from the field.

*~Duel Over! ~*

"NO, no, no! I can't lose, I can't!" Weevil fell to his knees and pounded the floor with his fists.

//That was my first duel. Not bad if I do say so myself, but best not get in over my head. // She looked at Weevil.

//Hey there, I’m sorry. // Jayze stretched out a hand but Weevil slapped it away and stood up. "I will get you for this" Were the only words and Weevil walked away.

//Did winning mean that much to you? I'm sorry! // She watched as he disappearedng tng the throngs of ki
"
"Good job Jayze." She heard. Jayze turned around to see Yugi coming up to her. "That was a good duel. Hey for your fist day here, would you like to come to the arcade with us Jayze?" He asked

Jayze nodded. //Yay! My first new friend! //

"Jayze?" Yugi turned towards her and smiled. "Where did you learn to duel like that?"

Jayze took out a piece of paper.

~I never actually dueled before; this was my first duel against anyone. My grandmother taught me how to duel in Kyoto. ~

"No way!" Joey exclaimed. "Was that really your first duel? Your creamed that creep, Weevil."

//I guess I did, didn't I? Is he really a champion like he said so? // She turned her head towards the street. //Alright arcade! Here I come. My first day out in the city of Domino! //
