*Prologue: Leaving*

Yami had decided to go to America to pursue a music career that he had been dreaming about since he new about such a thing. Yugi, of course, didn’t take it all too well.

“WHAT?!!”

“I…I’ve decided. I’m going to America. A place called California. On of the guys that declined me here sent my tape there and they want me to come.”

“So……So you’re leaving? Just like that?!”

Yami hesitantly nodded while looking at the ground. He couldn’t stand looking at his beloved while in this state…especially that he was the cause of the pain.

“How can you do this? Just up and leave? Leave on Joey? Tea? Tristan? Ryou and Bakura as well as Malik and Marik? Kaiba and Mokuba and Mai? Just when we all were getting along finally? HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME??!!!”

“I…I’m sorry, koi. I just…I don’t have a future here. You know how I tried to get a record here but was turned down each time. I just want to see what the rest of the world has to offer and…”

“Stop!”

Yami looked up.

“Stop…please…stop making excuses…” begged Yugi.

“Excuses for what?”

“Just come out and say it…stop beating around the bush like a coward and say it.”

“Say what, Yugi?”

“That you don’t really love me!”

Yami’s eyes widened.

“What?! Yugi, how could you even think that? I love you! I really do!”

“Then stay here.”

“I…I can’t.”

“Then let me come with you!”

“What? Yugi, it’s going to be very hard, moving from place to place, never having a permanent home…That’s not the life you deserve.”

“But Yami, I don’t want to live without you. I CAN’T live without you! Please, reconsider!”

Yugi’s eyes were trickling large tears staining his face making him look so desperate and miserable and heart wrenchingly heartbroken.

Yami had to turn away again from the scene before him.


As much as Yugi argued, Yami never swerved his answer.
Since then, Yugi never came from his and Yami’s room.
Now it was just Yugi’s…well, after Yugi threw all of Yami’s stuff down the stairs and the Puzzle at Yami himself.

The day that Yami was to depart from Japan, Yugi didn’t come to the airport to see him off.
The only people present were Tea, Joey, Mai, Tristan, Kaiba and Mokuba, Ryou and Malik.
Marik and Bakura did not approve of what he was doing to his hikari in doing this so they stayed at Yugi’s out of pure sympathy.

Yami couldn’t have felt worse. His insides felt like they had all melted and his heart had stopped and exploded.

“Flight 252 is now boarding. Fight 252, now boarding.”

“Well, guess this is it,” said Joey as he and the others stood at the terminal to watch him walk down the bridge to get to the plane.

“Good luck,” said Ryou.
“Yeah,” agreed Malik.

“Write to us when you get settled or just when you get the chance,” said Tea.

Yami nodded and turned around. How he wished he could give one more good-by to his one and only love. The only one who had completed him. His light in his darkness…

“Why am I leaving again?” he asked himself.

I know it’s for the music…but Yugi…No. Stop. If you think about him, you’ll only turn around and never leave that city ever. Never look back. Never…as much as it may hurt. And who knows, you may see him again…but who lives life on pure dreams?…

Yami kept walking as a single tear strolled down his cheek.
