The Hearts of Darkness and Crystal

Zypher Dragon: Well, here’s the sequel to Crimson Tinted Yami, I though about it after reading my chapters again so I’m making the sequel to it and also this will introduce the meeting of Aqua with Yami and Yugi since I never truly told how Aqua showed up with Yami in my other stories.

Warnings: Shounen-ai, maybe some yaoi in later chapters, lots of fluff, Tea bashing (and I may consider death again), AU, tidbits(maybe more depending on how the story progresses) of Kingdom Hearts will show up in this story but it only ties to the storyline (if you want characters from the game to show up, then say so in your reviews) and last but not least, some angst.

Disclaimer(haven’t put many of these up): Do you see a lot of fluff between Yami and Yugi, my characters showing up in the series, Sora and Riku sharing tender moments together in the game, Tea’s dead and her soul tortured by the duel monsters in the Shadow Realm, then I don’t own them. The Hearts of Darkness and Crystal

~*Prologue*~

After the accident a year ago, everyone was doing fine except for Yugi, even thought a year has gone by, he still couldn’t tell Yami his feelings for him even thought he still remembers what Diamond told him before she left him to work things out on his own. Yugi wished that Diamond was here to help but she wasn’t anywhere to be found although somehow Tristan and Tea were brought back from the dead and he knew that she must be somewhen thn the city still.

But a new problem has arisen in the city and Yugi is thinking about taking care of it and his own problem, will he succeed and maybe love the other or with he fall into more depression as Tea starts to advance on her own love for the spirit and the other when she meets him.

Chapter 1

A year later after the accident with Bakura and his vampire form, Ryou and Bakura were living peacefully together even thought Diamond was gone but they knew she would come back soon; but at the Game Shop, Yugi was having problems himself. He wanted to tell Yami how he felt about him but it was so hard to do so without encouragement from Diamond like he had before.

Right now, Yugi was taking a nightly walk outside to clear his mind of the imposing thoughts when he heard something in the woods nearby and he shivered slightly from fear. “Who’s there?” Yugi asked quietly. No one responded and Yugi act on his curiosity and started walking towards the woods. “Is anyone there?” Yugi asked once more as he walked into the forest.

He saw a shifting form and walked over to it and gasped at what he saw. A black dragon that looked similar to a Red Eyes Black Dragon but different in many ways was laying on the ground, blood pouring out from a wound on its leg that looked like a bullet hole. He kneeled beside the dragon and placed a hand on its side. “Who done this to you?” Yugi thought aloud as he ripped a piece of his shirt and wrapped it around the dragon’s wound.

The dragon cried out softly and started thrashing a bit and Yugi frowned as he tried to calm down to dragon, wondering who would do such a thing to a creature like this dragon. “Don’t worry, I’lay bay by your side, I can’t leave you alone here where you can be hurt even more.” Yugi said, rubbing the dragon’s back, ceasing its thrashes and even though the dragon was unconscious, a small smile showed upon his muzzle.

Yami looked outside the window, worried about Yugi and where he could be right now. He heard the bell of the Game Shop door ringing and he got up quickly, going over to the door, hoping it was Yugi but sighed when it was only Tea. He knew about her feelings for him but he never returned them for he had his eye on Yugi ever since the incident but he, like Yugi, was afraid of admitting his feelings for the small boy for he thinks that Yugi wouldn’t love him back.

“What is it that you want Tea?” Yami asked half heartedly. “Oh, nothing, just wanted to come and see you Yami.” Tea said as she came inside. Yami shook his head as he closed the door again and went into the living area of the Game Shop, sitting down on the couch, not paying any mind to Tea sitting beside him.

“What’s the matter Yami?” Tea asked as he scooted up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He sighed. “I’m worried about Yugi, he went out for a walk and he hasn’t came back yet.” Yami said quietly. Tea growled to herself, remembering when Yugi told them about his feelings for the spirit and wasn’t going to let him get the chance of having Yami for himself. “Why don’t you give Yugi some time, sometimes maybe he wants to be alone.” Tea said. Yami looked to her, thinking over what she said and nodded.

“Yeah, you might be right Tea, I’ll just wait for him and hopefully he’ll come back before the night’s over.” Yami said as he shrugged Tea’s hand off his shoulder as he got up. She got up with him and wrapped her arms around one of his. “Would you like me to stay with you Yami?” Tea asked, hoping he will say yes.

“No, that’s ok, you should get home anyway.” Yami said as he took his arm from her grip and started walking towards the door, Tea following him. She pouted slightly as they reached the door. “Are you sure you don’t want me to stay with you Yami?” Tea asked once again, hoping he will reconsider his choice. “No Tea, I’m fine on my own.” Yami said as he pushed her out non-to- gently and closed the door behind her.

He sighed again as he headed upstairs silently. ‘Yugi, where could you be? I’m worried about you.’ Yami thought as he lied down in his own bed and fell asleep.

Back in the woods, Yugi was asleep on the dragon’s side, never noticing the dragon waking up slowly. The dragon looked down to him and smiled softly, never meeting anyone in his life that would actually care about him after all he’s done in his past life. He nuzzled Yugi’s side softly before moving him over quietly and got up, wincing slightly from the wound and looked down to it, seeing the ripped cloth tied to his leg and smiled. ‘Someone actually cares for me. Even after all these years being sealed in Hollow Bastion.’ The dragon thought as he looked down to Yugi.

‘Maybe, you might just be the one to help me from what I became and maybe even love me.’ The dragon thought again as he started limping off, not wanting to leave Yugi alone but he couldn’t stay just in case the person looking for him will come through the woods. Yugi woke up when he didn’t feel the dragon’s side and looked around.

‘Where did the dragon go, its wounded and shouldn’t be walking out on its own.’ Yugi thought as he got up and started walking through the woods, hoping to find the dragon again before it could get hurt anymore.

The dragon continued limping through the woods, stopping when he heard a shout nearby and recognized the voice easily. “That dragon can’t be far men, we need to bring him back to the castle where he belongs. He’s one of the only Heartless* left awake and he needs to stay sealed like the others before he can find that crystal emblem.” The voice said and the men that are with that person agreed. “Let’s split up, we should find him faster that way.” The same voice said and the men agreed and the dragon heard shuffling and started to limp another way, hoping the he will avoid them.

Yugi heard the shouting nearby and when he heard ‘dragon’ he knew they must be talking about the dragon he helped earlier but he didn’t know about the Heartless and the castle but to him, it didn’t sound good. ‘I hope the dragon is ok, I can’t let him get caught by those people.’ Yugi thought, starting to run through the woods, determined on finding the dragon again.

The dragon stopped by a small river, panting slightly since it was hard to run with a injured leg and his wings were sealed so he couldn’t fly. He heard shuffling by the bushes and was about to run away when he saw the boy coming through the bushes. Yugi looked up when he saw the dragon and smiled, running up to him. “I heard everything that man said and I couldn’t let you get caught, especially in your condition. You must come home with me, that’s the only place you can be safe until you wound is healed.” Yugi said.

The dragon looked to him, pondering on whether he should follow the boy or not. ‘He helped me when I needed it, I can trust him since I’m too weak to look for the crystal now.’ The dragon thought and nodded. Yugi smiled and placed a hand on the dragon’s neck. “Come on, we better hurry before they can find you, I don’t know about you or what they were talking about but to me, it didn’t sound good at all.” Yugi said and started leading the dragon away from the woods, keeping a wary eye out for anyone elhat hat were in the woods with them.

The men reported back to their leader. “We haven’t found trace of the Heartless dragon sir, the only thing we found was blood from the wound we gave him before he ran off from us.” One of the men said.

The leader nodded. “Come on, we better get back to the base but I know we will find him soon enough.” The leader said and they started heading out of the woods and back to their base. ‘Don’t think this is over yet Aqua, we won’t let you get the crystal emblem. We will find you and seal you back into Hollow Bastion like you should be.’ The leader thought.

Once they reached the Game Shop, Yugi quietly walked in with the dragon and stopped in the living room and the dragon sat down beside him. Yugi turned to the dragon quietly. “You can understand me, can’t you?” Yugi asked quietly, knowing that Yami must be asleep by now. The dragon still trusted Yugi and nodded. “Of course, I would feel stupid if I didn’t.” the dragon said just as quiet. Yugi was shocked to hear the dragon talk but this was his first time seeing an actual dragon so he didn’t really know much about them.

“That’s good, tell me, what is your name anyway? My name is Yugi.” Yugi asked again. “Oh, I’m Aqua.” The dragon known as Aqua said. “Well, Aqua, can you tell me a bit about yourself?” Yugi asked once more. Aqua nodded. “I’ll tell you my story so I suggest you sit down since it will be long.” Yugi nodded and went to sit down on the couch.

“Now, where to start? Oh, well for starters, you may have never heard of this ever but I am a Heartless Dragon and to people who have heard of them think of us as monsters but were not, at least some of us.” Aqua started. “What is a Heartless Aqua?” Yugi asked, curious.

“Well, a Heartless is almost like a demon in a way, that’s why most people think of us as monsters cause our true goal was to collect pure hearts to locate the crystal emblem that will get rid of this dark insignia that sealed us, freeing us from a place called Hollow Bastion where all Heartless are sealed in eternal sleep but some of us want to use their regained power to take over Hollow Bastion and free other worlds other than this and gain power over those worlds.” Aqua said, turning his back to Yugi, where his insignia was located. Yugi looked to the insignia and nodded as Aqua turned back around.

“Now as for my story, I was born millenniums ago as a carefree dragon in the midst of Ancient Egypt...”

~*Flashback*~

A small black dragon ran through a vast palace hallway, another person following behind him who was the Prince of Egypt, Atemu or Yami as he like to be called. “Come on Yami, Father will be mad if we’re late for our studies again.” Aqua chirped as he stopped, waiting for him. “Oh don’t worry about it, the studies are not that important, once I become Pharaoh, I’m not going to be like my father, you know that Aqua.” Yami said as they stopped by the library doors.

“I know, I’m not going to be like him ether, he’s too power-hungry but he’ll regret it soon enough,” Aqua said as they walked into the library to do their studies. After their studies, it was getting well into the night so they went to get something to eat before going to their room. Aqua went up to the window and looked outside. “Yami, do you think there are other places we can visit that just the sands of Egypt?” Aqua asked.

“Yeah, one day we will go out on our own and look for new places, maybe even new worlds.” Yami said as he sat on his bed. Aqua nodded and left the window, climbing into his own bed. “I hope so, it gets boring after seeing the same thing everyday, sand, sand and more sand.” Aqua said and lied his head on the pillow. Yami lied down himself. “Don’t worry Aqua, we will find new places to go, just give it time.” Yami said as he fell asleep.

Aqua nodded again as he looked out the window once more. “I hope you’re right Yami.” Aqua said quietly.

The next morning, the council was bustling around in panic when they woke up. “What’s going on Ardon?” Yami asked to one of the council members. Ardon turned to Yami and Aqua. “Last night, there was a murder, your father is dead and here was no evidence on whold’vld’ve done it.” Ardon said.

Aqua looked shocked. “But wasn’t their guard posted by our father’s door?” Aqua asked. “Yes but it seemed the murderer has sneaked through the window quietly so as to not alarm the guards or your father.” Ardon said once more. “Great, so that means were Pharaoh and pharaoh dragon right?” Yami said dejectedly. “I’m afraid so Atemu.” Ardon said.

“We’re only 15, we don’t need to take any responsibility like this but there’s no way to back out of it. Oh well; come on Aqua, let’s get ready for our first order of business.” Yami said as they walked to the their chambers where their cloths set out for their place as pharaoh and pharaoh dragon laid.

“After three years of being rulers of Egypt, our 18th birthday came up and we were to choose a personal slave. None of them didn’t impress us except for one.” Aqua said. “And who was that Aqua?” Yugi asked, quite surprised that Yami and Aqua were blood related brothers even though Aqua is a dragon. “It was a small boy but at the age of 16, he was perfect for us but the thing is, you remind me of him Yugi.”

“Really?” Yugi said. Aqua nodded as he continued with the story.

Children between the ages of 14 to 16 lined up in front of them, some frightened and some starting to cry but didn’t let the tears show for their sake of not being whipped. They were lined up for Yami and Aqua to choose for a personal slave. So far, none of them has impressed them much and they were about to signal the guards to kill them when they spotted a small boy close to the end of the line.

It wasn’t their size that caught their eye but the resemblance to Yami but a lot more innocent. Yami smiled. ‘He’s perfect.’ Yami thought and turned to Aqua who had the same idea and signal one of the guards to bring the boy to them. The boy cried out as he was brought up to the two rulers.

Aqua walked down to him and looked him over quietly. “What is your name and age?” Aqua asked but to the boy, it sounded like a command. “I-I-I’m Euji a- a-and I-I’m 16 summers o-o-old.” The boy known as Euji said, trembling in front of the dragon ruler. He nodded and motioned to their High Priest. “The Pharaoh and Pharaoh dragon has chosen their personal slave, they rest of you will be slaves to work around the palace.” The High Priest announced and the other children were led out from the throne room.

Yami got up and walked down to stand beside Aqua. “Come on Euji, time to go to your new room.” Yami said as he and Aqua headed out the throne room. Euji stood there a bit longer, frightened of what could happen when he gets into the two rulers room but followed them before they could find out that he wasn’t following them.

Once they reached the room, Aqua opened the door and Yami walked in then he looked to Euji, who stood by the door and he knew why. Most slaves that they had in the past were nothing but bed slaves and were used only once and he must thought they were going to use him for that. “Don’t worry Euji, you’re not like other slaves, you’re special in your own way.” Aqua said quietly and Euji looked uphim,him, shocked.

“Do you really mean that master?” Euji asked. “Yes, I do mean it and please, don’t call me master, call me Aqua, the same goes for Yami. Like I said, you’re special in your own way so there’s no reason to call us master.” Aqua said as he placed a claw on his shoulder and led him inside their room.

A few months later, Yami, Euji and Aqua spent most of their time together, Euji developing feelings for the two rulers but didn’t want to say anything about it yet but it was bad for him that he should’ve told them sooner for a great evil has arisen and was planning to destroy the palace and getting someone that they lost years ago.

Aqua woke up when he heard a faint explosion from on of the corridors away from their room and got up, Yami doing the same. Euji woke up to and looked up to Yami. “Yami, what’s going on?” Euji asked sleepily. “Don’t worry about it Euji, we’ll go check what it is.” Yami said as he got up from the bed and walked to the door, Aqua behind him. Euji watched them quietly, praying to Ra that they won’t be hurt from whatever is attacking the palace.

Once they came up to the destruction, they saw a group of beasts attacking the guards and they were helpless to stop them but what shocked them the most is when some of these beasts pulled out a heart, not a real one but like the soul of the heart and some guards would slump down to the ground while other were killed.

“What’s going on here.” Aqua asked and one of the beasts turned to him and gasped as it came up to him. “You are a dragon are you not?” the beast asked and he nodded, confused a bit. The beast took one of his claws in his own as his looked up to him with glowing yellow eyes. “You are the one that will help us find the crystal emblem, you must help us Heartless.” The beast said and Aqua took his claw from its grip.

“Why should I, I don’t know nothing about this Heartless or the crystal emblem.” Aqua said and the beast gasped once more. “Something must’ve happen to you, you are the master of us Heartless but we have lost you during the ceremony. You must come back with us.” The beast said and Aqua was about to give a response when they heard a scream back at their room.

‘Euji!’ Yami and Aqua both thought and started running back to their room. But it was too late, Euji lied on the bed, motionless and barely breathing, one of the Heartless but of a wolf like form standing over him, holding his heart which glowed with innocence. “Euji, no.” Yami said as he and Aqua walked up to him. Euji turned to him, a weak smile on his face. “I’m sorry this had to happen to me Yami and Aqua...but all I wanted to tell you...was..that...I love you both..but I should have told you...sooner...but...now..it..my...time...to....go.......” Euji’s eyes closed, never to see the light of day again.

“Euji, Euji!! Please, don’t go!!” Yami cried as he held Euji’s pale, lifeless hand and for the first time, tears slipped down his face, the same for Aqua. Aqua looked up to the Heartless wolf that had Euji’s heart. “Why did you do this?” Aqua said quietly. The wolf looked to him. “We are looking for the crystal emblem and pure hearts are the key to finding it. But that not the only thing we need, we also need you master.” The wolf said.

Aqua looked to Yami and saw him nod and mouthed to him ‘Do it, I have something that will get rid of them but you’ll have to sacrifice yourself and so will I.’ He sighed and looked back to the wolf, nodding. “Ok, what do I need to do?” the wolf smiled as Euji’s heart disappeared from his claw and he walked up to Aqua. “Just close your eyes and I’ll do everything for you.” Aqua nodded once more and kneeled down.

The wolf placed a finger to his forehead and the emblem of the Heartless glowed on his forehead. After a while, memories started flooding his mind as Aqua remembered what happened then a dark glow appeared over him and once it died down, a emblem appeared on his chest but that disappeared and another appeared on his back right between his wings and it permanently stayed there.

The wolf moved his claw away from his forehead on the change was done. “There, now you’re back to your regular self master.” Aqua nodded quietly and looked over to Yami who was now holding a upside down pyramid and he knew what he was going to do.

Yami looked to the wolf. “You have taken my only love away and now you’re taking my brother away from me, I hate to do this but it’s the only way. I call upon the powers of the Millennium Puzzle to seal away all the Heartless to Hollow Bastion in eternal sleep in return to sacrifice my life.” Yami said and a bright glow came from the Puzzle. A golden light surrounded all Heartless and they were forced into eternal sleep as they were transported to Hollow Bastion.

Aqua was the last Heartless standing. “I’ll miss you Yami, hopefully we’ll be able to see each other later in the future and maybe a reincarnation of Euji.” Aqua said quietly as the golden glow started surrounding him. Yami nodded. “I hope so too Aqua, I hope so too.” Yami said just as the last of his spirit was transferred into the Puzzle and it dropped from his lifeless hands to the ground, shattering into pieces as Aqua disappeared to Hollow Bastion in eternal sleep.

After that night, many people in the palace were worried about what happened the night before but when Ardon found the broken pieces of the Millennium Puzzle near Yami’s soulless body, he knew what must’ve happened and picked up the pieces, placing them in a gold box and hid it for someone else to find later in the future to solve and free Yami’s soul once more.

~*End Flashback*~

“And that’s what happened. I became part of the Heartless and Yami was sealed into the Puzzle” Aqua finished. Yugi looked to him, a few tears trailing down his face after hearing what happened to his past self. “I never knew this happened to Yami and you, I’ve been trying to help Yami regain his memories but I couldn’t do a thing, but now that you have told me your life story, that changes everything.” Yugi said before he yawned.

Aqua smiled softly. “You better get to sleep Yugi, I can’t have you sleeping here now can I?” Aqua said and Yugi nodded. “Will you sleep with me tonight Aqua?” Yugi asked sleepily. Aqua nodded and got up from the floor, picking Yugi up off the couch and started walking up to his room quietly so he wouldn’t wake anyone that was in the house.

Once he reached the room, quietly placed Yugi on his bed and covered him. “Goodnight Yugi.” Aqua said and lied down beside him on the floor, falling asleep in the comfort of Yugi’s room.

The next day, Yami woke up and got up quickly from his bed, wondering if Yugi came back last night and left his room, heading to Yugi’s and was surprised at what he saw behind the door. “Aqua, is that you?” Yami asked quietly as he came up to the dragon sleeping beside Yugi’s bed.

Aqua woke up when he heard a familiar voice then turned to Yami. “Yes it’s me Yami, it’s been so long since we seen each other.” Aqua said quietly as he got up. Yami ran to him and wrapped his arms around him in a hug. “I thought I would never see you again after sealing you in Hollow Bastion with the other Heartless.” Yami said. Aqua smiled and returned the hug.

“The same with me, even though I was in eternal sleep, I beaitiaiting for the day when I could escape Hollow Bastion’s walls and I had the chance now but soon, I might have to go back.” Aqua said quietly, leaving Yami’s embrace. “What do you mean Aqua, you can’t go back.” Yami said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

“I know, I wouldn’t have to worry as long as Arados and his men doesn’t catch me.” Aqua said. “Don’t worry Aqua, as long as you stay with us, you don’t have to worry about them or Hollow Bastion.” Yami said and he nodded, unknown to both of them, Yugi was awake and listening quietly and like Yami, he wanted to protect Aqua since that night, he started developing feeling for him and that just adds to his current problem of telling Yami his feelings.

‘What am I to do? I don’t know if I’m able to love them both.’ Yugi thought sadly to himself.

Later on, Yugi check on Aqua’s wound and saw that it healed overnight and smiled up to him. “Well, you’ll be able to walk better now Aqua. Your wound is healed good enough.” Yugi said and Aqua nodded. “Thanks Yugi.” Aqua said and nuzzled him softly before he left the room.

Yugi blushed and then left the room too, hinghing Aqua. “Aqua, would you like to go outside for a while, I can show you around just in case you want to leave the Game Shop to go out by yourself?” Yugi asked. Aqua turned to him. “That sounds good Yugi.” Aqua answered and left from the window he was looking out of and walked up to Yugi.

“Ok, let’s get going.” Yugi said and they left out the Game Shop to walk around the city. As they walked around Yugi looked to Aqua. “Aqua, I’ve always been wondering, what caused your wings to get sealed up?” Yugi asked. Aqua looked down to him. “I don’t really remember but I’m having a feeling it had to deal when I first encountered Arados, he must had magic and sealed up my wings and it took me a while to noticed since I had been running from him and didn’t bother to fly.” Aqua said and Yugi nodded.

“It must’ve been hard to do all this Aqua, I’m glad I was able to help you before Arados could catch you and seal you back into Hollow Bastion.” Yugi said. Aqua smiled and nodded. “Yeah, I thank you so much for doing that for me.” ‘Even thought I can’t play the charade forever, I will have to show who I really am soon. I am a demon and I have to get the crystal emblem soon but I will do my hardest to not use Yugi’s heart to get what me and the rest of the Heartless need.’ Aqua thought sadly and lowered his head.

Yugi looked up to him. “What’s the matter Aqua?” Yugi asked, wondering what could have ruined Aqua’s mood. “Oh, it’s nothing Yugi, I’m fine.” Aqua said. ‘For now at least.’ He thought to himself as they continued to walk through the city.

After the walk through the city, they stopped at the park. Yugi looked up to the sky quietly, sighing. Aqua turned to him. “What’s the matter Yugi?” Aqua asked. “Well, the thing is that I like someone but I also like someone else, I don’t know what to do. I like them both but I don’t know how I should tell them, especially the person the I liked for a long time.” Yugi said as he lowered his head.

Aqua wrapped an arm around him. “It’s ok Yugi, you don’t have to be scared, just tell the two people you like you feelings about them and everything will be ok.” Aqua said. Yugi nodded. “Ok Aqua. I’ll hope you’re right about this cause I’m still a bit scared about it.” Yugi said as he got up from the bench, Aqua doing the same.

“Well, who is it that you like Yugi?” Aqua asked as they started heading back home. “It’s Yami. I really like him, no, love him but I’m too afraid to tell cause I think he might reject me and maybe go for Tea, she wanted to be with him more than I wanted to since it was only a year till I found out about my feelings for him.” Yugi said.

“Don’t worry Yugi, I’ll help you. Since Yami must not remember what happened millenniums ago, he would need my help to remember and like I said the night before, you remind me of Euji, our first love and surely Yami will love you just like we loved him.” Aqua said as they stopped by the Game Shop door. “You’re right Aqua. I’m ready then. Tonight I will tell Yami my feelings for him and if I can do that then maybe I can sort out my feelings for the other person I love.” Yugi said.

“I have a feeling everything will work out Yugi.” Aqua said and they walked inside. ‘Hopefully everything will work out for me too and I can find the crystal emblem and go to a different world. I’m the master of the Heartless and I’m not going to let them hurt anyone in this world.’ Aqua thought.

*: The Heartless in the story are not like the onesKingKingdom Hearts and I can’t explain them the best right now but I can tell you that they are like anthros (half animal/half human) or mythical creatures that have been possessed with the insignia of the Heartless like Aqua and changed into demons. Later on in the story, I’ll see about explaining then more better.
