My Pharaoh's Life

A/N: This is a pretty bad story, it’s my first being detailed, or even really writing one, I sure hope its good enough. ^^ It roughly starts in the past for this first chapter. It will be detailed and it’s all from Merrick Ishtar’s point of view. Please enjoy.

Never, had I thought that Yugi, the pharaoh, would ever make me feel this way. As I sit there in the hall, poised across from his room. It had been days since I first took up this job. Gifted with the talents of being a very good watchman, I was his personal guard.

I saw many people enter his room, but I really only saw him once. Usually, he was surrounded by a group of advisors. But not today, he was free to do, as he wanted. I know I may sound weird, but I fell in love with him, not for his power or his looks, but because of his personality. He was of a kindred spirit, wild at times, but mostly serious. I loved that, and I loved him.

But I am getting ahead of myself. It all really started when I was sitting at my father’s farm, outside of a desolated Egyptian town. I, myself, was carrying on my daily household chores, my sister was feeding the chickens. We were happy as a family, never have been before. Even though my mother died, birthing my sister, I never really seemed to notice we just got right back to track and gathered up our nerves.

It wasn’t until the 3rd day of March, that it all changed. It started to rain, not a nice soothing rain the dessert usually brings, but a rain no person should ever endure. It was like one long huge nightmare, as I stepped slowly from the premises of my room, I felt a strange vibe. I could see the strange fog of my breath escape through my semi-parted lips as I slowly walked down the hallway towards my destination. Pushing open the outside door, I was greeted by the bright flash of a fire, I lifted my right arm to my face, hoping to shield myself from bright light.

Only when I was use to it, did I fear what I saw, before me, sprawled out on the ground was the remains of my family, and to their left, the sparse guards of the Pharaoh. Apparently gaining victory over Rome with the use of the ‘Duel Monsters’ was not enough for the young farmer. He had to ruin my life as well, fortunately for me, I had my own deck. I would get revenge, right here, right now. I gave the guards little warning of my approach, until summoning a monster upon the field.

I know it didn’t fit me, but it was a card my father had bestowed upon me, I felt it necessary to kill his murderers with his card. It appeared, through all the anger, all the hatred I now felt made it possible, it was Freed the matchless general, a powerful warrior, I felt fit to take them on.

They turned with such surprise, but it was too late for them. Before they were able to open their mouths to scream in terror, there heads fell to the ground. Unfortunately, my rage had gotten the best of me, apparently a few more guards, and a certain priest had stopped by to watch. They got an eye full of my summoning skill, and decided I was useful. It was then I was clubbed, directly to the back of the head, my sight went black and my world changed, as well as my life.

When I awoke, I was laid out solemnly upon a large white bed, it was silent, dead silent. I slowly rose and felt the pains arouse on the back of my head and spring down my spinal column, I arched my back in pain and winced. I felt my long blonde hair, hearing stories of men being de-spirited by the removal of their hair, and was relieved to find it all there in all its glory. Though I was wearing something much different, a pair of shaggy long black pants and no shirt. I had a painful carving of the symbol of Rah on my left breast and an Aunk on my right. I was confused, where was I?

It was then, that he came forth, tall and slender with dviolviolet eyes, and tri-colored spiky hair. He was sleek and defiantly beautiful, I only recognized him, when I spotted the Millenium puzzle attached around his neck. I let my eyes narrow and my lips curl into a snarl. He only found this ammusing, and chuckled and sat before me, in a powerful gesture.

“Ah, what is it, the name that you bare?” He said playfully, looking to me with eyes, showing no real interest in the ideal of fun. I was hesitant, but gave in, not wanting more to be done.

“Merrick.” I wouldn’t give my last name, not to be recorded that my family ended up becoming mere servants instead of respected merchants and farmers. He seemed interested in my name, taking his time to pronounce the syllables.

“Merrick is it? Well Merrick, I have a job opportunity for you. Of course, you will have to pledge loyalty by signing over your life to my services.” He said this, his emotions turning from a childish gesture, to a more serious note. I could feel the tension increase on him as he shifted his weight.

“ And if I sign my life over, what exactly will I be doing? Pharaoh.” I said a little more rudely then I meant. It caused him to snap forward and almost hit me. Not that I would mind, I was ready for anything, even this.

“To be my personal Body guard. A person able to summon a monster with out use of a sacred item, is a worthy talent. And you are of a rare breed, Merrick. So I order you to sign the oath, I order you to guard me.”

I hadn’t a clue what he was afraid of, that he needed someone like me to help him. I never thought it rare anyway, my entire family was able to do it, until he killed them. I hesitated thinking of my opportunities. Slowly I answered weakly.

“Yes, I shall, Pharaoh.”
