The Young and the Hopeless
Chapter 0ne
“You-you’re such a-a jerk!” A woman in her mid thirties yelled at a slightly older man. “What about your children?” She asked enraged.
The man smiled, causing his lips to get extremely thin. “What children?”
The woman started to cry. “You know I won’t be able t-to provide for our children, especially not when we have to buy m-medicine for me and Alyssa!”
“Don’t worry you’ll get your child support.” He rolled his eyes and headed for the door.
“Keep your money.” She screamed slamming the door after him.

“Why’s daddy leaving?” Said a mousey little a blond boy, looking out the window. (He was about 4) He was wearing light blue pajamas with fluffy white clouds.
“What did you say Sam?” asked a slightly older boy, franticly. (About 6)
“Daddy’s leaving! H-he’s got all his s-stuff with him too!” Sam said, sounding a bit scared. He woo yoo young to know what was really going on, but by the way his brother was acting, he knew it wasn’t good.
The older boy raced out of the room, quickly followed by Sam.
They ran down the hall past their older sister, Alyssa. “Sam, Tyler! Get back to bed!” She hissed quietly, so their weeping mother couldn’t hear her.
“No!” The older boy, Tyler, yelled
He glared at his sister. She’d recently gotten into the ‘Goth’ thing. She wore dark, thick mascara. She’d cut and dyed her waist length brown hair so it was black and shoulder length. She often wore it up in 2 sloppy buns on each side of her head.
She had spiked bracelets and necklaces that she wore along with a black long sleeved shirt, a black mid-thigh skirt and black stockings and combat boots.
She looked out of place in the all-white house, very out of place.
Her face softened. “Mom doesn’t need this right now OK? She’s been through a lot.” Nothing could change the fact she’d always love her mother and brothers, no matter what.
How she felt about her father, now that was a completely different story.
“What about Dad?” Tyler asked not taking his eyes off his sister, as though she was a poisonous Cobra, ready to strike.
“Don’t worry!” Alyssa’s black lips stretched into a tight smile. “He’ll come back; he always does, doesn’t he?”
Tyler eyed Alyssa one more time before turning to go to bed, quickly followed by Sam.

Three years later…
“I’m hungry ‘Lyssa!” A two year old cried. He’d been born shortly after their father left.
“O.K. Give me a second would’ja Cory?” She said and turned back to her homework, just a few more math problems then she’d get something for he and her brothers to eat and then hurry to work, come home and get 5 hours of sleep. She could’ve gotten at least six, but she’d have to stay up half the night with Cory, because he had nightmares and didn’t go back to sleep until late.
“Done!” She said, practically jumping for joy. She hated math with a passion and was happy to finally glad to get it finished.
She made dinner (Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for her, Sam and Tyler and some mashed up banana for Cory.)
“Is that it?” Tyler glanced at his plate with the small sandwich on it.
She glared venomously at him “Money’s tight. Eat it.” She said slowly, as though talking to a toddler.
“I’m not hungry.” He said and put his plate on a nearby table.
Alyssa closed her eyes, trying to remain calm. “I’m not making you anything else.”
“Fine, I’ll just starve then.” He crossed his arms.
“You go ahead and do that.” She ate her sandwich in two bites and went to get ready for work. She put on her mascara, no black lipstick today. The manager didn’t like that. She quickly pulled on her red uniform shirt and headed down the stairs
Great, another exciting day at McDonald’s. She scoffed and as she walked out the door she called “Be in bed by ninove ove ya lots!” and she closed the door.
But before Alyssa left the house she noticed a white slip of paper taped on the white painted wooden door. At the top, in blood red ink were the words ‘Eviction notice’
All of a sudden the world started to spin. Quickly. Very quickly. Eviction? What am I supposed to do? What gonna happen to us? A thought crossed her mind What’s gonna happen to Mom? We can barely afford her medicine! Hell, I don’t even get the medicine *I* need…
She suddenly felt sick, very sick. Not the kind of sick that you can get rid of with a pill or a shot. The guilty kind of sick that stays with you for life. Second by second the sickness gets worse, until the pain is unbearable. Until it feels like your being pushed deeper and deeper into the dirt by guilt and responsibility. Until you can’t breathe. Until your stuck in the ground, the darkness, for good.
Alyssa broke down and sobbed for the first time in years…
To be continued…
A/N: What did you think? I know, the ending was a bit odd…BTW this ain’t gonna be one of those fics where the all the main characters fall in love with the original character. I’m gonna try to make my characters seem a lot less than perfect. I think it’ll make them seem more real, more interesting, and most important less Mary Sue! Pleez review ppls!
