Mirror Outside

Summary: Yugi's dreams frighten him and cast doubt on his entire reality, except for the unwavering presence of his best friend who stays loyally by his side. Jounouchi/Yugi shounen-ai, angst, romance for now.
(No abuse or darkness for once from me....strange, huh?)
Rating:PG
Disclaimer: I own nothing save the plot which has been kicking around inside my head for a while.
Distribution: Anywhere, so long as you ask me first.

A/N:I have been tossing this idea around for a while, it's been nagging at me, but I waited until I felt I could given the initial thought justice. All in all I'm very happy with how this turned out.
I enjoyed writing this fic more than most of my others, it has no abuse, no swearing, it's just honest emotion and I hope you all like it. I really would appreciate it if you would review this piece. It's a departure in tones for me and I'd really like to know how well it worked out from other people's POV.

Mirror Outside
~*~*~*~*~*~*~

He stood forlornt tht the window, staring out with wide eyes as the moments passed by before him in an endless moving tapestry. The world flickered and dimmed for a moment, life speeding up and slowing down like the reel in an old home theater projector. It gave the memory a stilted half-dream like quality that confused the boy and he turned from the scene back into his room. He was helpless to stop it when he heard the high pitched squeal and the crystalline tone of breaking glass. The shads flew inward from the window, now gaping like an open wound. Alarms and cries were raised in that terrible strangely moving picture, but he kept his back turned towards the commotion with uncharacteristic ferocity. He didn't want to watch the movie any longer, he didn't want to know what happened next.

~*~*~*~*~

Amethyst eyes opened slowly to see the same ceiling, the same wallpaper, the same room as it had every day before this. Despite the overpowering familiarity of his own bedroom, Yugi Muto felt distinctly out of place, lost within the comforts of home.

His hands absently went to his bedpost, fingers grasping around the familiar links of the chain he had hung his puzzle on. He gratefully retrieved the Sennen Puzzle and slipped the chain over his head, settling it around his neck and letting it hang across his chest as always. As usual, this simple morning ritual returned to him the sense of comfort and stability that his dreams sought to rob him of.

He sat up slowly and scratched one arm absently, before padding barefoot to the bathroom and takcarecare of such morning necessities as showering. Standing in the shower, it occurred to him briefly that only recently he had begun to wear the puzzle even in the relatively safe bathroom, it wasn't as though many would come to take his treasure while he was two feet away scrubbing down. Yet, even now as he lathered up, the puzzle hung from his neck, gleaming wetly, and Yugi silently hoped that whatever the puzzle was really made of proved to be rust-proof. It didn't appear to be affected by it's daily baths so far, which boded well considering he'd been bringing it along for well over a month now.

He dried off his hair carefully and stared hard into the bathroom mirror, one small hand wiping away the moisture that distorted his image. His hand froze in midair as he went to clear the mirror, shapes moving within the mist, far away and unclear, but clearly there. His eyes went wide as the image in the mirror came closer, two people standing across from one another, one had hair that was bright blond and the other was shrouded in darkness. The blond turned towards him and Yugi felt as though he were almost physically thrown back, the shock and pain that coursed through him from the eyes of this image in the clouded mirror.

/Mou hitori no boku...what was that?/ Yugi asked hesitantly, searching the quiet of his mind for the voice of the familiar spirit.

//I'm not sure, aibou.// came the soft reply, the normally firm tone become apprehensive, uncertain. //It is not a good omen.// the spirit warned before falling silent again.

Yugi cautiously approached the mirror again, but the moisture had evaporated and he stood looking only at a watery reflection of himself. "Perhaps I was seeing things..." he murmurd doubtfully to himself, picking up his towel and retreating to the supposed safety of his bedroom to prepare for school. He threw on his uniform, the comfortable outfit which had seen him through the last two years and he would be wearing for two more. At least the uniform was well designed and in a colour he himself was partial to.

"Yugi!" a rough voice called from downstairs, bringing a smile to the small teen's face. "You'll be late for school!" Jiichan warned as he walked down the stairs, into the kitchen that lay hiddehindhind the game shop, the place he'd lived for most of his life. "There's toast on the table, Yugi. Have a good day, okay?"

"Un, of course Jiichan!" Yugi exclaimed happily, grabbing two slices of bread and picking up his green backpack from beside the door, the place he'd left it the night before. His homework was already finished and tucked inside, ready for corrections. He smiled as he pulled the straps over his shoulders and waved goodbye to his grandfather, out the door and off to school like every day.

Nibbling quietly at his breakfast as he strolled casually to Domino High, which wasn't too far a walk from his home, he barely noticed the tall presence stalk up behind him, eyes glinting, ready to pounce.

"Yugi!" the stalker proclaimed, clapping his hands down firmly on the shorter boy's shoulders. Yugi's eyes went wide and he tilted his head back until he was staring up directly into the warm eyes that stared down into his upturned face. "Nice morning, huh?" Jounouchi inquired lightly, giving Yugi's shoulders one last squeeze before releasing him and falling into step alongside his friend. Yugi noticed rather mournfullyt Jot Jounouchi had to shorten his regular stride by quite a bit in order not to outdistance the small teen. It had always seemed that other people were forced to adapt to compensate for his, his mind shrunk from the pun, shortcomings. Jounouchi never showed any signs that he resented the fact, he smiled and continued on talking animatedly about the deck he'd put together the night before, and about how as ras ready to wallop Seto Kaiba.

"Do you really think you can take on Kaiba-kun?" Yugi inquired timidly, still not fully shaking off the rattling events of this morning's encounter with the phantom in the mirror. "Kaiba's a master gamer, Jounouchi-kun, one of the best."

The blond looked down at him, the grin slipping from his face, thenlooklooked away quickly to conceal his hurt. "I'm a pretty good duelist too, y'know. I've come in as a finalist in the past two tournaments we've been in." he blustered, bravado straining to hide his lack of confidence.

"Yes, you are a really good duelist, Jounouchi-kun. Kaiba-kun has access to better cards than us, and he's been playing a lot longer than either you or I. If you and Kaiba had begun playing at the same time..." Yugi left it hanging, not truly certain whethiminiming or extended training really would've made a difference when it came to a champion gamer like Kaiba.

"Yeah!" Jounouchi exclaimed excitedly, fists pumping the air. "If I'd been playin' as long as he has, I'd be the winner, hands down!"

Yugi smiled indulgently and agreed half heartedly with his friend, though he still had his doubts. As he was clearly demonstrating now, having walked headlong into a mailbox, Jounouchi lacked the necessary concentration to become a real champion. Yugi was happy with his friend just as they were, Jounouchi was certainly an excellent duelist and they had fun competing in tournaments together. Yugi hoped someday that Jounouchi would win a tournament and hopefully find some measure of the confidence he sought so desperately, but had always managed to allude him. It didn't help that no one seemed to know who he was, and standing next to such dueling legends as Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba, he was always overlooked or never given fair credit.

"You look deep in thought, Yugi." Jounouchi had begun to walk more slowly, looking down at his friend with a serious expression not usually found on the carefree blond's face. One hand was stuffed deep into his pocket, the other held his book bag, tossed negligently over one shoulder. Yugi noted dismally that several sheets were sticking dangerously far out of the bag and more had probably fallen unnoticed long before. As he lo int into the worried honey coloured eyes of his best friend he wondered absently why his mind was paying such close attention to such minor details.

"Uh," Yugi looked away embarrassed, "It's nothing."

The blond stopped in his tracks and grabbed his friend by the arm, pulling him to a halt as well. He looked away, messy blond hair fluttering around his face in the breeze, his eyes turned away towards the horizon, distant and intent. "You can tell me anything, you know that, right?" he asked softly, voice barely audible above the low rush of the wind.

He thought about it carefully a moment, looking at those far away honey eyes, and he felt suddenly very small and alone. The ground tipped away beneath his feet and he fell downwards into blackness, scrabbling shadows clawing at his body and engulfing him until he became a part of those transparent shadows, his eyes hazing and the world an inky cloud. His feet touched down onto what seemed to be firm ground, and he pushed on forwards blindly waving his hands before his sightless eyes.

In a clea bef before him stood two figures, one tall and imposing, a dark aura that was even blacker than the shadows swirled around him, distorting his features and hiding his face. The other figure was slightly smaller, but no less impressive. He was bathed in a radiance that seemed silver and golden and any number of other beautiful colours he could give no name to.

"He wakes." the first voice stated, a low rumble, though it wasn't unfriendly, it sounded even concerned.

"I know, he can't be bound like this forever." the second person spoke, his voice light and melodic, strangely warm and familiar.

"What would you have me do?"

"Nothing."

"If he wakes, then this world shall become as nothing."

The light turned away and Yugi felt something in his stomach wrench at the sight of this being, filled with such sadness and hurt. "We can't keep him against his will," the light replied, voice nearly breaking.

"We sent you to protect him. You were best suited of us all to stay at his side."

"I can't protect him from himself. I won't."

"You would let him go?" The dark voice prodded gently.

A stifled sob, and a sigh, "I must." he said.

"It hurts you so much to know he will leave us..." the darkness reflected quietly, reaching out to comfort his companion. "How can you still say that we must let this happen?"

All was quiet for a moment, and as he heard the words of the hushed reply Yugi opened his eyes. "I love him."

Yugi blinked, pushing away suddenly, mind still confused and panicked, locked into the strangeness that still clung to him from the strange vision. A pair of honey eyes were hovering over him, wide eyed and shining damply. They closed a moment and when they reopened they were filled with warmth and happiness. "You're okay!" Jounouchi exclaimed thankfully, pulling his friend to him in a quick hug. To cover his embarrassment and the blush on his cheeks, the blond stood again and walked to the window, staring outside as he leaned casually against the wall. "You had me worried," he said after a moment of silence had passed.

"Where-wha--?" Yugi blinked again and rubbed at his eyes, the bright aura of the one figure still shining in his eyes, clouding over the room and the sight of his best friend standing with him. It was a small room with the distinct smell of disinfectant and alcohol. Before Jounouchi even said it, Yugi knew where he was.

"Nurse's office, you collapsed." the blond replied, turning to face Yugi again, back and shoulders pressed against the wall, legs stretched out long before him. "You okay now?"

"Hai...I think so Jounouchi-kun." Yugi nodded, patting about his outfit for the Sennen Puzzle, which was noticeably absent from his neck. The blond pulled it out of his bag and stepped up beside the small cot, slipping it gingerly over Yugi's spiky hair and pulling it to rest properly against his chest. "Thank you."

"No problem," Jounouchi smiled, picking Yugi's bag from the floor and slinging it around his shoulder along with his own. "Time to get you home."

"What? I'm fine, I don't need--"

"Nah-unh. Nurse's orders, buddy. I'm supposed to walk you home and make sure you're okay."

"But class!"

Jounouchi grinned and began to usher the other teen out of the room and down the empty halls, poking and prodding him to keep the shorter boy from veering of course. "C'mon, it's a free day off school! I'm sure Anzu'll grab our assignments for us, not that I wouldn't mind missing them altogether."

"Jiichan's not home today!" Yugi exclaimed, trying to stall his friend, who turned out to be obstinate and pushy at all the wrong moments. "We can't just--"

"You've got a key, I know you do. It'll be fine, just one day of school..." By now they were out of the building and already to the sidewalk that stretched along the front edge of the schoolyard. "Why are you so upset?"

"It's just--I don't--"

"Whoa, just calm down, it'll be fine." Jounouchi soothed, keeping one arm on Yugi's the whole time they walked. "You can tell me what's up, promise it won't bother me."

"I don't want to go back home, it feels--off."

"Off?" The blond looked quizzically at him, honeyed eyes confused and concerned.

"Everything's been feeling unfamiliar lately, strange. It's like I wake up in a house I don't belong in, surrounded by people I don't know. It's been happening more and more frequently. When I--passed out, it was....It happened again. There were two people in my dream and I think they were talking about me. It had something to do with waking up. One of them didn't want me to, and the other--" Yugi trailed off hesitantly, the last words of the other spirit making waves in his stomach. "He wanted me to wake up, but he said he'd miss me." Yugi lied, feeling somewhat ashamed for not telling his best friend the entire truth.

"Do you have any idea what they meant?"

"No! I don't--I have no idea why this is happening. Yami doesn't either, he's been very quiet lately. In these dreams, I--I don't think he's with me. It feels like I'm alone except--"

"Except what?"

"Those other two spirits...one of them said that they were watching over me. What do you think it means, Jounouchi-kun?"

The blond looked down at the ground thoughtfully, his eyes upset and uncertain, but when he looked back his expression was resolute. "I think you have to find out what it means. You have to go back to these dreams and find out what it really means."

"I'm scared..." Yugi admitted quietly as they reached the back door of the shop, leading into the living room. They both placed their shoes by the door and donned the waiting slippers, walking softly through the silent house.

"It's okay, Yugi." Jounouchi smiled, hugging the smaller boy again, with no sign of embarrassment now, "I'ght ght here with you, aren't I always?"

Yugi smiled and leaned thankfully into the hug, resting his face against Jounouchi's chest for a moment, while the taller blond ran a hand softly through his hair. When they parted, Yugi noticed again that Jounouchi was blushing, but Yugi was grateful for the comfort they shared.

"Let's go to my room, Jounouchi-kun." Yugi suggested, grabbing the blond's hand and pulling him through the rest of the house.

"What?!?" he cried, sled led and his face now completely crimson.

The smaller teen laughed and pushed open his bedroom door, "No, I mean...I'm going to try and go to sleep, but I want you here in case anything happens. I fit looks like I'm having a night mare, I want you to wake me up, okay?"

"Good plan."

"Turn around so I can put on my pyjamas, 'kay?" the blond stood in the corner and kept faced away while Yugi changed back into his night clothes and climbed under the covers, snuggling down into the warmth. As an after thought he pulled the puzzle from around his neck and rather than hang it on the bed post, offered it to Jounouchi. The taller teen accepted it somewhat hesitantly and sat down beside the bed cross legged, watching calmly as Yugi closed his eyes and hoped to fall asleep.

After what seemed like ages passed, Yugi growled and opened his eyes, declaring loudly that it wasn't working. He was laying sleeping in the middle of a roadway, his blankets strewn across the oncoming lane. Gasping and jerking away involuntarily as a car came close, it streaked past the place where he's been sleeping ten seconds ago. He wiped off his brow with one hand and pulled the blanket around his shoulders, holding it tightly against the phantom wind.

A large white house was at the edge of the road, front lawn sloping down to meet the asphalt without a sidewalk to boarder it. As he walked curiously up the front step he felt it prickling along his skin, the eerie sense of being watched. He turned his head slowly, but the watcher remained out of his vision, but the warmth of it's aura proclaimed it's identity. The light spirit continued to follow him in his dreams. Ignoring the invisible viewer for now, Yugi continued to march hesitantly up the low hill to the front door of the house. He reached out with one hand to grasp the bright brass knob when it turned and flew open in front of him, his shock sending him stumbling to the grass behind.

A small boy about the age of four came rushing out of the house, a tall dark figure walking behind him, eyes heavy and unfocused. "Shhow's what they know, s'right, Yugi?" the man slurred slightly, clumping wearily down the front walk and to the car in the driveway.

"Don'wanna." the little boy replied, only to be ignored by the man who seemed to be his father.

"S'alright, we'll jus go find ourselves another place, shhe'll never notice."

"Don'wanna." the small voice was firmer this time.

"Shtupid bitch." the man grabbed the boys arm and dragged him inch by inch to the car which gleamed like a sleeping demon in the driveway, anticipating the ride to come.

"DON'WANNA!" the little boy screamed, kicking and biting at the man holding him, until a hand was raised and the sharp slap of skin cut through the air like a bullet, startling both the man, boy and the frightened teen who watched the strange scene from distant years in the future.

"This didn't happen--" Yugi, the teenager gasped, not believing in the script being played out before him, the plot seeming terrifyingly familiar and still completely alien. He shut his eyes against the horrible vision, turned his back against it and refused to turn back. "No."

"Please watch, Yugi. You need to. I'm sorry, but you need to." a soft voice coaxed, and warm arms enfolded him, pulling him around so that he faced the little boy and his father once more.

"No..no! I don't want to, don't make me!" Yugi sobbed, turning his face aside as he leaned back heavily into the comforting arms, tears streaming freely down his face.

"Please." The spirit asked and unable to resist, he looked as the scene continued.

"Shtupid boy, were leaving! You don't wanna be left behind, do you? You don't want me to leave you all alone!"

"Don'wanna!" the little boy whimpered, twisting in the rough hands that held him firm.

"Fine! I'll leave ya here, leave you all alone and you'll never have nobody never. S'here me, boy? Alone forever!"

The small Yugi broke finally from the grasp and ran blindly from the man, short legs pumping as fast as they could away from the horrible person who had seemed to replace his father.

"No...oh, god, no!" The Yugi held in the spirit's arms whimpered, one hand reaching out towards the small boy in a futile gesture, a gesture that was over twelve years too late.

It happened quickly, the small boy scampering fearfully onto the roadway, the sudden noise of the approaching car, the bright streak as the vehicle sped into view, the sharp hiss of brakes that were applied too late to matter. The dull thump as the boy was tossed into the air like a rag doll, and the sickening crack of his body coming down onto the harsh pavement echoed like a bell in this dream world. Moments ticked past in mere seconds, the alarms began to sound, the people came to gawk, and the small boy who looked so pale and lifeless was tucked into the back of the ambulance and carted away.

"Oh god, no!" Yugi wailed, collapsing into the spirit's embrace, trying to drown his mind and feelings in the warmth of this strange other who had made him watch this, made him remember this awful truth that he'd buried away. "My life--" he sobbed. The arms tightened against him and he hugged back, face buried in the spirit's chest, tears flowing down his cheeks hopelessly. The other rubbed his back and one hand wound through his hair, stroking him comfortingly, whispering soothing sounds in his ear as he was held against the pain and sadness that he'd tried so hard to bury. He closed his eyes and felt his sorrow overtake.
.

"Yugi? Yugi..." a voice called out softly to him, prodding his eyes open once more though he wished they could shut forever. Jounouchi was shaking him softly, eyes large and worried, his smile replaced by a worried frown. "Please wake up..."

"No!" he cried hoarsely, digging down deeper into the blankets that covered his bed. Or perhaps that didn't. "This isn't real!" he cried, shoving friefriend away from him, fleeing the room and the fake room that had been spun for him, an entire world that had been no more than a lie, made to pacify his sleeping mind. His real self was somewhere out alone in a cold unhappy place, his mind here trapped inside a coma dream of someone else's making. "Who did this? Who put me here?" Yugi demanded angrily, screaming up at the ceiling as he darted through the shop, a home he'd never really had.

The world slowed and stilled as Jounouchi trailed behind him down the stairs, and a dark purple mist began to form in front of Yugi. His face no longer obscured, the Black Magician's formidable presence towered over him, watching him with deep saddened eyes.

"You!" Yugi accused, pointing up at the phantom mage, "You did this to me!"

The magician nodded sadly. "We thought it was best. We tried to protect you. In the outside world you were alone....your father and mother have both died since that day....you have no other family, no friends. We kept you here to keep you safe."

"What gave the the right to play with my head? You invented all these friends for me, an entire world, my....Mou hitori no boku...he's not...not...real....."

"Your aibou is real. He is your other side, the part of your heart that wanted you to grow strong enough to wake from this realm, that wanted you to be able to care for yourself once your left us. He is till within you, still within the puzzle. He is the eternal spirit of the puzzle, and he waits outside this world for you now, the puzzle waiting at your bedside for you to piece it together." the mage replied.

"Everything else is a lie? I only have him to wait for me?"

"Yes."

"I have no friends, no family...I'm alone. I don't know if I can put the puzzle together out there. I'll be all alone....why? Why have you done this?" Yugi sobbed, collapsing to the ground, arms wrapped tightly about his small frame as he shook helplessly.

"It'll be okay, Yugi. I promise." Jounouchi whispered in his ear, wrapping around his friend and holding him close to his chest.

"You're not--" Yglanglanced up, his violet eyes empty and hopeless, into Jounouchi's shining face. His honeyed eyes were bright with worry and his hair melted smoothly into his golden aura as he held his small fd tid tightly. "Jounouchi--" he breathed, amazed at the change in the person closest to his heart.

"I'm right here with you, aren't I always?" the spirit smiled, resting his cheek against Yugi's. "I promise things will be okay. I believe in you."

"I don't understand--how...? Who are you, Jounouchi-kun?"

The spirit grimaced in distaste. "It's not really necessary for you to know, I'm me, okay?"

"Do you really think that's fair, ookami?"

"Aw c'mon..." the blond protested.

"Ookam--Silver Fang???"

"Geez, y'had to go and say it. I really thought we'd gotten off the whole dog thing a long time ago."

The Black Magician smiled slightly. "You get too full of yourself if I don't pull your leash short every now and then." the mage looked back to Yugi. "I considered carefully which of your familiar spirits to set as a guard over you, though each wanted the honour."

"Familiar spirits?" Yugi murmured, still looking more than slightly dazed by his friend.

"Your cards, Yugi...Us. We're yours." the blond supplied.

"Jounouchi was chosen because of what he is."

"Was." the other spirit corrected in a growl that more than slightly defeated his purpose. He pulled back and sulked in the crook of Yugi's elbow, still holding on the the teen possessively.

"He is fierce and loyal, a companion at heart. I knew he would dedicate himself to you completely and would never let any harm come to you if he could prevent it. I needed someone who would give you everything they had to offer, who would die for you if necessary. Jounouchi more than lived up to our hopes.

"Thanks," the former ookami said dryly.

"We used all our magic to give him a human form so he could be with you in all ways. It would get suspicious if a giant dog started talking to you out of the blue, and we wanted you to believe everything was normal." the magician laughed briefly. "Not that our Jounouchi is anywhere approaching normalcy, but in the end, he did very well."

Yugi leaned back into the arms around his chest and closed his eyes fearfully. "W-What happens next?"

Jounouchi's arms tightened and the blond leaned into him, his face sled led close to Yugi's. "You get to go home." he whispered, tears beginning to form in the corners of his eyes.

"Home--no! I don't--I don't want to be alone!" Yugi struggled vainly, but the spirit held him tight, preventing him from breaking free.

"It's for the best. It's where you belong." Jounouchi smiled sadly, turning the boy around in his arms. "This isn't really your place, Yugi. It's ours. We're always here watching you though, I'm always with you, right?"

"It's not the same." the small boy sobbed broken heartedly. "Don'wanna."

"I want to thank you for all our time together, it meant a lot to me, Yugi." the blond beamed happily, tilting the other boy's face up. I'm not sure if you were upset, or embarrassed earlier, but...." the blond blushed deep red before swooping in and capturing Yugi's lips in a kiss. When Jounouchi pulled back Yugi stared up at him with wide eyes before flinging his arms around his protector.

"I love you too, Jounouchi-kun...I love you!"

"He's waking up!"

"Doctor, come quickly, he's awake!"

"I love you Jounouchi....love...you...."

Amethyst eyes fluttered open reluctantly, finding themselves staring up at a blank white ceiling with bright fluorescent lights that jabbed painfully. He looked down uncertainly at himself, eyes traveling in disbelief over his small wasted body, the tubes and machines that connected him to this outside d and and kept him from re-escaping. "Jounouchi....."

The rest of the morning was taken up by the flurry of nurses and doctors flooding through his room, all astounded to see the child wake up after twelve years had passed. Yugi saw the excitement in their eyes tinged with sympathy and decided not to give any of the young doctors the hard task of telling him he was alone. On his bedside sat a golden box with a curious pattern, a large Egyptian eye, carved into the front. Yugi smiled and patted the familiar box with love. "I'll be seeing you soon, Mou hitori no boku. I hope you're keeping Jounouchi-kun company right now." his eyes began to tear up uncontrollably and he reached down to pick up the treasure box and look inside. Stashed beneath the puzzle piece was an old set of cards, careworn and obviously well loved too.

"Jounouchi..." Yugi whispered as he sorted through his deck for the card he now particularily treasured. He paused as he reached the Black Magician and silently thanked the dark spirit. The card at the bottom of the pile bore only the inscription 'Silver Fang' at the top. The picture however, was blank.

Yugi smiled and held the card tenderly to his chest, eyes clouding with tears, but it was less painful while holding his friend's card. His love.

"Uh, excuse me...." a rough voice asked from the doorway and an old man shuffled silently into the room. "I noticed you were holding Magic and Wizards cards there....My grandson used to play with those before...." the man trailed off sadly. "I thought I'd introduce myself, my name's Sugoroku, but everyone around here calls me Jiichan."

Yugi's eyes whipped up suddenly to meet a familiar face and a feeling of peace swept over him. He should have already known, after all, Jounouchi had promised that everything would be okay, and his love had never broken his word.

FINI
~*~*~*~*~*~

A/N: Damn! That was some good sweet angst. Nothing violent or harsh, just some good ole sweetness!! To those who think I arbitrarily made Jounouchi's card out to be Silver Fang, just because of my own personal affinity for wolves, you'd be wrong. While I find it nice personally, I considered each and every card we've seen Yugi play and I chose the one that best personified Jounouchi. Considering the dog comments everyone's fond of, and his extreme loyalty, I thought it worked out nicely.
I rather liked writing this short and sweet little fic, and I will admit to having cried once when they're separated in the end. Sigh. I do like angst, though this one is more innocent than my usual tormenting of our poor Jounouchi-kun.
