Chapter 9 Changes Part I

Seto and Yami’s Story

Seto watched as Jou went through the changes that would make him like he was. He couldn’t feel any remorse for him it had been too long, and he needed the companionship of another. He smirked and let out a wry laugh at this thought. All he had ever done since he was changed himself was destroy everything he touched. That included his family who he had killed in his madness for that first taste of blood. The elixir that would keep him alive, the drive for that taste was overwhelming for him. After he had killed them he had blamed an intruder in his quarters and one of the slaves had paid with their life.

He had felt no remorse or sadness at this act of cruelty. He had then pretended to go into mourning and resign from his post as high priest but not before he turned his best friend and cousin into what he was. He didn’t want to live in solitude for the rest of eternity. At first the Pharaoh had been very angry with him for changing him into a creature that craved blood, that which kept people alive, vibrant.

FLASHBACK

“Why Seto, why did you do this to me? It was you, not the slave who killed your family?”

Seto looked at his cousin and sighed “To answer you I need to tell you a story that you are not going to like.”

“I had heard of someone wiping out entire towns so I decided to go and see if this were true. As I entered the first town I was appalled at the carnage I saw.” Men, women, and even children lay dead or dying in the streets. At first I thought it might have been the Tomb Robber Bakura who had done this. But it was not his way. So who then had slaughtered all of these people? One of my guards found someone who was still able to speak, barely. He told us of a man with long silver hair that came into the town the night before and started to kill everyone. He slipped into the homes and attacked entire families. He attacked those on the street. Nothing could stop him. Those that he didn’t kill out right he tortured by letting parents watch as he showed what he truly was; a demon, a creature of the night.”

“He drained their blood and just dropped them where he stood and moved on to the next one methodically killing everyone in sight.” Seto paused at this point in the story and closed his eyes and sighed “He begged me to kill him, not to let him become like that creature. So I did. I also destroyed the town by burning it and all the people in it because I knew it was cursed.” Seto stopped and waited for the Pharaoh to say something to him, anything would have been better than this silence.

Finally the Pharaoh said something “How did you become one of them?”

Seto sighed he wondered how he was going to answer this. He still wasn’t sure of all the details of his change. “After we burned the town, we went into the desert looking for this creature to destroy it. We camped out for the night at an oasis and posted guards. Telling them to be careful and stay alert. Little did we know this creature walked among the shadows. He didn’t attack the guards; but me. It happened so fast there was nothing I could do to stop him. He was just too powerful. The guards heard the struggle and came running but by that time it was to late I had been bitten. I ordered them to return me back to the palace. When we got back I was so weak from the loss of blood. The healers said there was nothing they could do.”

The Pharaoh looked at him “I remember that but what amazed everyone was by the next day you where fully recovered like nothing had happened to you. It was then we discovered that your wife and child had been killed along with your personal guard and servants.”

Seto smirked “Yes I needed to sate something within myself that I didn’t understand. It was a craving.”

“When my wife walked in I could smell her blood and needed to taste it. No not taste it, needed it, and wanted it, to survive. She didn’t understand what was happening to her as she gave up her life to keep me alive. My daughter walked in just as she died and she was next, by this time I needed more wanted more of what I had tasted. The craving was overwhelming. By the time I had finished all of my guards and servants where dead and I told everyone that an intruder had broken in and killed them all.”

The Pharaoh looked at him and couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He was curious about something though. “Why me, why did you attack me, will I go through the same thing or will I die as well?”

Seto looked at him and smiled “No you will not die. Well you will be dead but you will still be breathing at the same time. Don’t ask me to explain it to you I still have a hard enough time accepting what I have become. To answer your next question I didn’t want to survive in this existence by myself. I want to have someone I can talk to, to be with. I know that doesn’t make much sense to you. Instead of trying to survive I should be trying to destroy myself instead, but the drive to survive is much stronger than to die.”

Seto sat back and watched his friend, his cousin, his Pharaoh, slowly go through the changes. He wanted to help him but Seto knew that if he tried to help him he would kill him. No one in the palace knew what was going on in the Pharaoh’s chambers. All they knew was that the high priest was there talking to him and the one thing you didn’t do was interrupt the Pharaoh and the High Priest when they where talking privately.

By the next night it was complete and the Pharaoh had changed. To keep down suspicion Seto and the Pharaoh left the palace and sought out the first of many victims that the Pharaoh needed to complete the change.

They came upon a caravan at a nearby oasis that had just left the city, Seto knew these people would be perfect and wouldn’t be missed for awhile. Figuring they had fallen victim to desert bandits like Bakura and his men.

Seto watched as the Pharaoh tore into the neck of his first victim and sate himself. The look on his face was one of pure ecstasy. Seto too fed also in need for that sweet elixir to keep him alive. While Seto and the Pharaoh were feeding unbeknownst to them they where being watched, Bakura found the whole situation very interesting. He needed to follow them and find out just exactly what was going on. The High Priest and Pharaoh killing like they where and enjoying it. All he could do was smirk at this and he thought he enjoyed killing; this was something on an entirely different scale. He planned to find out why.
