“Mr Kaiba?” A nervous looking doctor said as he approached.

“How are they?” Seto asked anxiously.

“Well, Mr Wheeler will be fine after a few nights in hospital. Luckily there wasn’t any lasting damage caused when he was nearly strangled. The emotional scars may take longer to heal though.”

“Was he… raped?”

“No, but he has been abused rather badly. The skin on his legs was practically ripped off and he’s covered in cuts and bruises, the bruising around his neck being particularly severe.”

Seto clenched his hands into fists when he thought about what his puppy had been through, “What about my brother?”

“I’m afraid there’s not much more we can do for him.”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘NOT MUCH MORE YOU CAN DO FOR HIM’!” Seto shouted.

“Mr Kaiba, he lost a lot of blood and there was heavy internal bleeding. We managed to close the wound but he’s very weak.” The Doctor took a deep breath and braced himself, “At this stage the chances of him waking up are small.”

“WELL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR ARE YOU!” Seto completely lost it.

“Kaiba, you need to calm down.” Yami said.

“CALM DOWN! MY LITTLE BROTHER IS DYING! WOULD YOU BE CALM IF IT WAS YUGI WHO WAS DYING?”

“Joey needs you too Kaiba. You need to think about him as well.”

Seto opened his mouth but found he could not think of a response, so he turned back to the doctor, “Can I see Joey?”

“He really shouldn’t have any visitors, but I think we can make an exception for you Mr Kaiba.”

Joey cautiously opened his eyes, “Where am I?” He asked no one in particular.

“Puppy?”

“Dragon?” He turned his head and saw Seto quietly enter the room, “What happened?”

“It’s over, he’s dead. You’re in hospital.”

“Duke’s dead? How?”

“Yami shot him.”

“Is Yuge alright?”

“I think so. I was too busy worrying about you and Mokuba to even consider Yugi.”

Joey growled at the mention of Mokuba’s name, “Yeah, where is the little brat?”

Seto narrowed his eyes, “He’s in the ICU.”

“Huh, why?”

“Duke shot him.” Seto blinked furiously as tears welled up in his eyes, “They say he probably won’t ever wake up.”

Joey carefully put his arms around his Dragon and pulled him down so he was lying next to him, “Mokuba’s a tough little kid, he’ll pull through.”

“I know he’s not your favourite person in the world right now puppy, but do you think you could ever forgive him?”

“Honestly, I don’t know Seto. I mean, I went through hell cause of him.”

“If I have to choose between the two of you I can’t promise you anything.” Seto tenderly brushed a few stray strands of golden hair off Joey’s face.

“I wouldn’t make you choose between us Dragon.” Joey yawned, “Hey, why did he do it anyways?”

“He was jealous of you. He thought I didn’t love him anymore so he wanted to get rid of you and take your place.”

“He wanted to be your… lover?”

“Pretty much. Duke messed with his mind and made him think it was the only way I’d ever love him.”

“Hey Dragon?”

“Yes love?”

“Thankyou for saving me. I’m sorry about the thing with Yugi.”

“Don’t worry about it. Mokuba told me everything.” Seto noticed how tired Joey looked, “You’d better get some rest puppy. I’ll come back later on.”

“Mmmm, night Dragon.”

“Yami? What happened to everyone else?”

“Kaiba’s fine, apart from a few bruises, Joey’s pretty beat up but all he needs are a few days rest, and Mokuba… He still hasn’t woken up.”

“Poor kid. Duke exploited him and his insecurities.”

“You should be angry at him for helping Duke Aibou.”

“I know, but I know that he’s not a bad person. He was tricked into doing what Duke wanted him to do.”

“You are completely amazing Yugi.”

“Why?”

“You’re so sweet and forgiving. After everything that you’ve been through you haven’t changed a bit.”

Yugi looked away, “I’m not innocent anymore Yami.”

Yami embraced Yugi and gently turned his face so he was looking at him, “You’ll always be innocent Yugi. No one can take that from you.”

“I love you Yami.”

“Mr Kaiba!”

Seto was harshly awoken by the sound of the annoying Doctor calling him, “WHAT!?”

“It’s your brother Mr Kaiba. He’s awake.”

“Let me see him!”

“Of course sir, if you’d just wait a few minutes while we check him over.”

***A Few Minutes Later***

“You may see him now Mr Kaiba.”

“About time.” Seto snarled as he shoved past the Doctor to get to his brother.

“Seto…”

“How are you feeling Mokuba?”

“Like shit.” He gave a weak smile.

“Watch your language.” Seto laughed quietly.

“Is Joey okay?”

“He’s fine. Just needs a lot of rest right now.”

“I’m so so sorry big brother.”

“I know you are, and so does Joey.”

“He must be really mad at me huh?”

“That is to be expected Mokuba. But he doesn’t hate you, and with time I’m sure you will make it up to him.”

“I don’t think there’s anything I can do that can fix what I’ve done.” His eyes filled with tears.

“I know exactly how you can make it up to me Mokuba.” Joey grinned from the open doorway.

“Puppy! You shouldn’t be out of bed.” Seto exclaimed worriedly.

“Yeah, probably not, but they told me Mokuba had woken up and I demanded they let me visit.”

“I’m so so so so sorry Joey. I wish I’d never listened to Duke.”

“No point wishing for that cause you can’t undo what ya did. But like I said, I know exactly what you can do to make it up to me.”

“What?”

Joey grinned and whispered his request into Mokuba’s ear, so that Seto couldn’t hear.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“Nope.”

“And then you’ll forgive me?”

“Yup.”

Mokuba sighed, “Okay. I’ll do it.”
