Chapter Nine
by Ravenx
A warm breeze blows the tops of tall trees, the sun shining brightly down on green grass. Fluffy white clouds float across the light blue sky, birds chirping happily as they fly through them. In the distance the sound of a waterfall cuts through the air. At the edge of the cliff looking out over the tops of the trees stands a crying sandy blonde, strong arms wrapped tightly around his waist. A yelp forces his honey colored eyes to look around the other elf’s shoulder to see a brown haired elf sprawled out on the grass and dirt, his arms held out in front of him for protection.
“I will kill you.” Marik hisses, his fist clenched at his sides.
“Marik, stop.” Joey wipes the tears from his eyes as he moves from Seto’s arms to stand by the tall pale blonde.
“He killed Malik!” Marik yells into the sandy blonde’s face, a fist moving back to strike him.
“I would not do that if I were you.” Seto growls, suddenly in front of Joey with his arms crossed over his chest.
“I am sorry.” Marik takes a deep breath.
“It is alright.” Joey’s voice is hoarse from crying.
“I will just have to kill this sad excuse for a kalina’quessir to calm myself.” Turning back toward the cowering Tristian he holds up a hand toward the brown haired elf’s chest. “Faina templa.”
“Lietha guldur.(1)” A voice calls out.
The bolt of white and blue energy that was heading toward Tristian’s chest is suddenly engulfed by a dark shadow and disappears. Dark violet eyes snap up to look into dark purple ones. Yami stands by a small tree, his hand outstretched from the spell. Beside him stands Yugi with Bakura and Ryou behind him.
“What is going on here?” Yami and the other new comers move closer to the other elves.
“Why did you stop me?”
“I believe I asked you a question first.” Dark purple eyes look back and forth from Marik to the shaking Tristian.
“I was about to kill him before you stopped me.” Marik growls.
“Why would you want to kill Tristian?” Yugi asks.
“I would think Seto would be the one wanting to hurt him.” Ryou states.
“He killed Malik.” Marik kicks the brown haired elf on the ground in the ribs.
“Mani?” Yugi’s large eyes widen.
“He throw him off the cliff.”
“I said I did not mean to.” Tristian cries out as another kick hits his stomach.
“It does not matter if you meant to or not, you still killed him.”
“I am not sure of that.” Ryou whispers.
“What do you mean?” Bakura asks.
“He is an elemental like us, if he were to die than we would feel it. I did not feel such a pain as Malik’s death.”
“Neither did I.” Yugi moves over to Joey.
“I did not either. I did not even think of that.” Wiping more tears from his eyes, Joey leans down to hug his small friend.
“So Malik is still alive?” Marik looks around at the smaller elves.
“He must be.” Ryou nods.
“But he must be injured from the high fall.” Seto rubs gentle circles on Joey’s back.
“So we can still get to him before it is too late.” Ryou walks over to his friends.
“But we have a bigger problem than that.” Bakura moves over to the edge of the cliff, his boot covered feet kicking small pebbles down.
“Mani?” Joey asks.
“Below us is the land of wolfhounds. Their attention has no doubt been drawn to the noise Malik made when falling.”
“Oh no.” Yugi gasps.
“He might not be able to protect himself. We must go find him.” Joey speaks up.
“You will all stay here.” Yami points at the smaller elves. “We will go and hunt for Malik.” He motions towards the others.
“I am not leaving Joey here with this thing.” Seto growls, his eyes narrowing in the direction of a still cowering Tristian.
“It will be alright. He will not harm us. Will you, Tristian?” Joey glares at the shaking brown haired elf.
“No. I promise. I will do them no harm.”
“We do not have time to waste we must go now.” Marik takes off in a run along the side of the cliff, soon disappearing into a thick brush of tall grass.
“Yes, let us go.” Yami starts to take off after Marik only to be stopped by Yugi’s small hand on his arm.
“Wait.”
“Mani?”
“One of us must go with you.”
“Why?” Seto questions.
“Malik can not heal himself and he is no doubt seriously injured. One of us needs to go with you to heal him.”
“He is right.” Joey nods.
“I will go.” Ryou speaks up.
“Are you sure? It may be dangerous, Ryou.” Yugi looks at his white haired friend.
“I am the best to go down there. If there is any trouble I am fast enough to get away.”
“And I will make sure to keep a close eye on him.” Bakura stands tall next to Ryou, a hand running down the smaller elf’s spine.
“If that is decided then let us hurry.” Yami leans down to kiss Yugi quickly on the cheek before running off after Marik.
Bakura and Ryou quickly follow the tall tri-colored haired elf. Seto kissing Joey on the lips lightly, a long fingered hand moving a strand of sandy blonde hair behind a pointy ear. Growling he looks over at the brown haired elf who shakingly stands up.
“If you touch him I will not hesitate to kill you when I get back.” Seto threatens.
“Seto, go. I will be alright.” Joey gently pushes the tall brunette in the direction the others ran off to.
Grunting quietly, Seto nods before moving quickly after the others. Joey stands watching after him for a moment before he feels a shaking hand touch his bare should, turning he stares into the eyes of Tristian.
“Do not dare to touch me.” Joey hisses, roughly jerking his shoulder from the brown haired elf’s grasps.
“Please do not hate me.”
“Why should I not? You just threw one of my best friends off a cliff!”
“Joey, please, calm down.” Yugi steps up next to the two elves.
“Why? He would not calm down when we asked him to.”
“And look what happened.” Yugi’s voice raises slightly.
“You are right. I just do not want him touching me right now.” Joey moves over to sit on the large boulder.
“Joey, you must understand that I was only trying to protect you from those mori’quessirea.” Tristian pleads with the sandy blonde.
“I do not need protection from Seto. He would not hurt me.”
“How can you say that? He is a mori’quessir.”
“I know that. But Seto is not evil.”
“He threatened to kill me!”
“Because he is afraid you will harm me!”
“Please do not yell at each other.” Yugi’s large eyes look back and forth between the other two elves.
“Amin hiraetha, Yugi.” Joey apologizes.
“As am I.” Tristian gives a faint smile to the smaller elf before looking back at Joey. “How can you be sure that this creature will not harm you?”
“Because I know. And please do not call him this creature, his name is Seto.”
“He can not love you the way I do. He will harm you when you least expect it.”
“No he will not.”
“How can you be sure? After he gets what he wants he will leave you with a broken heart.”
“And what does he want?”
“For you to be with him intimately. After that he will leave you alone.”
“No he will not.”
“Yes he will.”
“No he will not.”
“How can you be so sure?” Tristian asks.
“Because we were together last night and he has not left me. He says he can not wait to have me again.” Joey snaps.
“Joey!” Yugi stares wide eyed at the sandy blonde on the rock.
“He has taken you?” Tristian asks shocked.
“Yes. Last night in his cave.”
“He must have forced himself on you, leaving you no choice but to be with him.”
“No he did not. I willingly allowed him into my body and freely took Mokuba at the same time.” Joey’s eyes widen for a moment as he understands what he said.
“Mani?” Yugi moves closer to the two.
“Who is Mokuba? What do you mean you freely took him at the same time?”
“Mokuba is Seto’s little brother. We were all together last night.” Joey holds his head up high.
“Joey! I can not believe you.” Yugi gasps.
“You were with two mori’quessirea last night? How could you do this to me?” Tristian asks.
“What do you mean? I have done nothing to you.”
“I thought we were in love.”
“Tristian, how many times must I tell you I do not love you? I love Seto and Mokuba. I have never loved you more than just a friend.” Joey says.
“But I love you.”
“And Joey does not love you. You must understand that. You can not force him to love you, Tristian.” Yugi gently touches the brown haired elf’s arm.
“I just can not believe it.” Tristian looks down at the ground.
“Well you will have to start believing it. I am truly sorry, Tristian, but I am happier than I have ever been with Seto and Mokuba.” Joey calmly tells his friend.
“It will take me some time to understand all this. I am sorry for what I did to Malik, I did not mean to.”
“I know.”
“I just need to go and think for a while. I need to be alone.” Tristian moves away from the two elves.
“Tristian, please, do not tell any others about us being with mori’quessirea.” Yugi begs. “They might decide to banish us.”
“It is alright. I will tell no one. I promise.”
“Diola lle.” Yugi smiles.

Sun shines through the branches of the close trees, the leaves rustling gently in the breeze. A bird sits high on a branch, its beady eyes looking down at a form lying on the short grass. A pale blonde elf lies against the trunk of a large tree, his head resting on a root sticking out of the ground. The bare chest, arms, and legs of the elf are covered in small cuts and bruises, blood flows down a deep cut on his forehead. His left leg is twisted at an odd angle, a bump near his ankle indicates that it is broken. His right arm is lying limply between his body and the tree, his left wrist swollen slightly.
Light violet eyes feel with tears as Malik tries to move, a small yelp escapes his lips. Looking around at the silent woods, the small pale blonde shivers as a breeze blows his hair around his head. Suddenly he hears a snapping twig, his pointed ears perk up as he gently tilts his head in the direction of the sound.
From behind a tree several yards from Malik comes a large beast. Its dark gray fur speckled with white, small yellow eyes stare at the pale blonde. Long fangs gleam in the sun light, as the creature slowly moves forward. Malik watches quietly as the tall beast, that on all four legs would still come up to the pale blonde’s chest, growls softly. From the corner of his eyes Malik sees another beast appear, this one solid black.
Swallowing harshly the small elf starts to shake in fear and pain as four more creatures move out of the shadows of the trees. Malik cries out as his broken leg nudges against the tree trunk, the rough bark cutting into his dirt covered skin. A large black beast with glowing orange eyes sniffs the air before taking a couple more steps toward Malik. Slowly the pale blonde lays his left hand on the ground out to his side, his fingers spreading through the thick grass.
“Tintila, kemen.” Malik’s voice is filled with pain.
The ground shakes slightly, birds fly off of branches at the sudden movement. Three of the beast yelp before running into the trees, the three remaining ones growling roughly. Their teeth showing even more, eyes narrowing in anger. The black creature closest to Malik howls into the air as the pale blonde stops his attack, his strength failing quickly due to his injuries.
“Please no. Good little…good big wolfhounds.” Malik quietly speaks. “Please do not eat me.”
Large claws dig into the ground as the black wolfhound moves closer to Malik, its orange eyes staring down at the shaking elf. The pale blonde turns his head toward the tree trunk, his violet eyes closing tightly. His body tense as he prepares to feel sharp teeth and claws rip through his flesh.
Suddenly a loud howl of pain echoes through the trees. Snapping his eyes open, Malik turns his head to see the black wolfhound laying on its side, a giant hole on its side flowing with deep red blood. Malik looks around until his eyes land on Marik, his hand outstretched at the fallen wolfhound.
“Marik!”
“Behind you, Marik!” Yami’s voice booms through the trees.
Marik turns in time to see a large white beast leaping at him, moving quickly to the left he watches it fly past him to land on the ground with a growl. The animal’s claws become longer as it rears back on its hind legs, the front legs striking out at the tall pale blonde. Before Marik can more his hand to destroy the animal, Yami appears next to him to kick the beast away.
“Bakura!” Malik’s head moves left to see Ryou crying out as Bakura battles with a gray wolfhound.
The tall white haired elf kicks the animal away, his hands moving quickly to send two large energy bolts at the creature, unfortunately the wolfhound jumps out of the way. Ryou yells at the other white haired elf as Bakura begins to kick and punch the beast.
“Go heal Malik!” Bakura calls over his shoulder at the smaller elf.
Ryou quickly runs across the small space, bending down to look over the pale blonde. His light brown eyes widen as they look upon all the injuries Malik has.
“Are you alright?”
“Is that not a dumb question to ask?” Malik chuckles roughly.
“Of course it is. Just hold still for a moment. Tanka harwar.” Ryou’s hands hover over the pale blonde’s body, a bright light escapes his palms and slowly engulfs Malik’s body.
As the light begins to vanish Ryou lets out a scream as sharp claws cut through his white shirt and into the flesh of his back. Malik stares up at the large beast over them, its yellow eyes glaring down at him. Blood soaks through Ryou’s shirt, falling in drops onto the pale blonde’s bare chest.
“Vala onna en’ kemem.” Malik’s now healed hand smacks down quickly on the tree root by his head.
The old oak tree groans and creaks loudly as a large branch flies through the air, the rough bark slamming into the side of the wolfhound sending it soaring sideways to the ground at Malik’s feet. Ryou leans over the pale blonde, his eyes closed in pain. Malik quickly slides out from under the white haired elf, his eyes staying on the creature only feet from them, his hands resting above Ryou’s back as he whispers the correct spell.
After a moment both Ryou and Malik stand, their wide eyes looking at the still wolfhound next to them before snapping over at the sound of a spell. Bakura is pinned between a thick tree trunk and the heavy body of a dark gray wolfhound, the beast’s back smoking, blood running down its fur. Seto stands several feet behind it, his hand lowering from above his head.
“Bakura!” Ryou moves to run toward the other white haired elf but is stopped by a hand on his arm. “Malik let go of me.”
“No. Look, there are more of the creatures coming. We are safest here.” Malik points out at the trees where several more wolfhounds are emerging.
“We must help them.” Light brown eyes watch as Bakura and Seto remove the large beast from the white haired elf’s body.
“We will help them by not getting in their way.”
Malik gasps as he looks over to Marik to see the taller pale blonde hitting a wolfhound in the snout. Yami is several feet away from the pale blonde, his hands shooting out to fire energy bolt after energy bolt at advancing wolfhounds.
“I have to do something, there are to many of them.” Ryou winces as Bakura falls to the ground roughly.
“What can we do?”
“I know something but you will not like it.”
“Mani?”
“Wolfhounds have very sensitive noses.” Ryou shyly looks out of the corner of his eyes at the pale blonde.
“No! Ryou, you can not do that.”
“It is the only thing I can think of. Do you have any other ideas?”
“No.” Malik sighs.
“Then I must.”
“Fine.” Malik quickly moves behind the shorter elf, ducking down so that he can peak over Ryou’s shoulder. “I am ready.”
“Loomi tanya lirra amin.(2)” Ryou raises both of his hands up to the sky, his eyes staring over at the other elves and wolfhounds.
A large pale green cloud appears below the tree branches, the rays of sun piercing through it in several places. The other elves and beasts stop what they are doing to look up at the new shadow covering them. Suddenly the wolfhounds start to back up, their noses held high in the air. A black beast howls into the sky, his nose twitching slightly before turning and running through the trees. One by one the other wolfhounds quickly turn to leave, their fur covered tails tucking between their hind legs. As the last one leaves Ryou lowers his hands, looking over to smile at the confused elves.
“What just happened?” Marik looks around.
“I do not know.” Bakura holds his right shoulder tightly, blood seeping through his fingers.
“I do not know either but what ever it was has left us smelling awful.” Seto waves a hand in front of his face.
“Sorry about that.” Ryou says.
“You all stink.” Malik giggles, stepping out from behind the white haired elf.
“Malik! Are you alright?” Marik quickly runs toward Malik only to have the smaller elf run behind the tree. “What is wrong?”
“You stink.” Malik laughs, his head peaking out around the trunk.
“I was worrying to death about you and now that I am here all you can do is laugh and hide from me? I risked my life to get to you.”
“I know and I am truly grateful, I will even show you how grateful I am later but for now you really stink.”
“Want do you mean you will show me later how grateful you are?”
“You will just have to wait and see.” Malik giggles.
“How long will we smell like this?” Yami dust some dirt from his leather pants.
“Until you wash.” Ryou smiles innocently.
“Ryou, can you heal Bakura?” The tall tri-colored haired elf motions toward the white haired elf leaning against a tree.
“Oh! Bakura!” Ryou runs over to Bakura, his hands quickly moving over his bleeding shoulder and casting a healing charm. “Better?”
“Much better. Thank you, elle kua.” Bakura leans down to kiss Ryou only to have the smaller elf back away quickly. “What is wrong?”
“Like Malik said, you all stink.” Ryou giggles.
“And whose fault is that?”
“I know and I am very sorry but it made the wolfhounds go away.”
“Enough talk. Let us get back up to the others so we can wash this hideous smell off.” Yami pinches his nose.
“I agree. I want to get back up there to make sure Joey is alright.” Seto moves quickly through the trees.
“Yes, let us go so that I can find out how grateful my lirima ronyo is.” Marik smirks.
