Chapter 9
Bakura Breaks the Ice
Bakura sighed as thunder gently rolled over the ship. He had been awake for over an hour, contemplating the mystery that was Ryou. The boy still slept by Bakura's side, or, more accurately, nuzzled into Bakura's side. Bakura had been surprised to awaken to find himself cuddling the smaller boy, but for some reason, wasn't angered by it. So he simply stopped cuddling the boy, and let his captive do as he wanted; as long as he was asleep. At this point, the small one had curved his body to fit perfectly against Bakura's body, and his arm rested lightly on the pirate's chest.
Bakura sighed again, and looked down at the angelic face as it was illuminated by the lightning. He pondered what the boy had gone through over the last two days. He had lost his father, and he had forced the child to watch his father's demise. Bakura had always prided himself on not feeling guilt, but now the feeling overwhelmed him to the point of pain. He had made this innocent young boy watch the murder of his father. He and the other pirates frightened him with the idea of a painful death, and he himself had nearly carried it out. He absently rubbed at Ryou's stomach thinking of the burn he had inflicted upon the smaller one. Ryou had then been tossed into a small frightening room and locked up for the night, and had surely been scared out of his wits that morning. Then, Seto had made the boy nearly wet his pants, Jono and Otogi hadn't made it better and then Mai went and scared him to death with the idea that he, Bakura, may rape the child. He scowled.
'Never.' He thought, fiercely. The very idea of raping someone made his stomach turn. He sighed yet again, and unconsciously put an arm around Ryou's shoulders as he continued to think. The boy had been taken to have his first meal in at least 18 hours, and had been ganged up on by some idiots that Bakura didn't trust, and had nearly been skinned alive, only to be "rescued" by the very man who had ordered the murder of his father, and the rescue method wasn't exactly reassuring either. He had been glared at by the entire crew, which was enough to make any other boy his age piss his pants, had been told three horror stories, and then basically told "join us or die." Bakura snorted. Even then, the kid had wanted to help when the storm came up, and had saved the life of the one he feared more than any other on the whole ship, being injured in the process, but didn't give up. Bakura looked at Ryou again. He truly was a remarkable boy. Even after all of that, Ryou was sleeping soundly without a trace of the nightmares Bakura had expected him to have all night. Heck, the boy was even smiling slightly in his sleep! Bakura felt a smile tug at his own lips.
After another fifteen minutes or so of staring out the window at the stormy sea, Ryou began to stir. Bakura scooted away, not wanting to let the kid know that he had let him snuggle up to him.... Yet. He watched, intrigued, as Ryou's body arched, stretching out sore and stiff muscles. Bakura swallowed; the boy was incredibly seductive, moving like that. He looked almost as though he were squirming in great pleasure, and that look on his pale face only added to his sex appeal at the moment. Ryou relaxed his body, and only then attempted to open his doe brown eyes. They opened slowly, and flickered every now and then, and even after they had opened, it took a while for him to focus and really see anything. Finally, the large eyes looked around, and rested on Bakura. Ryou sucked in his breath, and grew tense. Bakura blinked.
"Good morning." He said, after a moment. Ryou blinked, and slowly sat up, wondering how Bakura knew it was morning. He kept his large eyes locked on Bakura, but didn't answer him. He and the pirate stared at one another for a few minutes before Bakura decided that he had to do what he had to do.
"I'm sorry." He said, and Ryou's eyes widened, and he cocked his head, making him a bit too adorable for Bakura at the moment. "I feel so ashamed for what I've done to you. I had no right. I just.... Lost my temper, and took it out on you. I wanted to hurt someone so badly, and you were just the easiest one at the time. I never should have forced you to watch me... Kill your father." Bakura looked down and stopped before his voice cracked. Ryou looked down as well, and kept his eyes focused on the bed sheet fisted in his hands when Bakura continued. "I'm sorry I hurt you, and I'm sorry for how I treated you. And after all of that, you saved my life. Why?" Ryou looked up at Bakura's piercing eyes, and frowned slightly.
"I..... I don't know. I've seen so many men die in the last few days, I didn't want to see another die where I could have saved him." Bakura nodded.
"I owe you my life. And one day, I will return the favor. A life for a life. And until that day, you may seek sanctuary with me, and you will not be denied. You have my word." Ryou stared at the pirate in surprise. The pirate was claiming a life debt! Ryou couldn't believe it! He knew very well of life debts. When one saves the life of another, that life belongs to them until the debt is repaid. Bakura was offering Ryou not only protection, but his life. He just hadn't put it in those terms, most likely because of his ego, but Ryou didn't care. He slowly nodded.
"Thank you....." He said. Bakura looked down, slightly embarrassed by what he had just said.
"You surtained injuries on my behalf." Bakura continued, taking Ryou's bandaged hands. "The least I can do is care for the wounds that were inflicted over me." He turned, and opened the door. Marik, Malik, Yugi and Yami looked up from where they sat, looking over a map of the surrounding ocean. They were silent when Ryou slid out of the bed and into the room. No one said a word as Bakura went to a closet to gather medical supplies. He returned to where Ryou stood, shyly.
"Take of your shirt." He said, and Ryou slowly moved to obey. Bakura's eyes widened, and the others gasped and ran over when he did. There were angry red and black rings around Ryou's waist from where he had tied Bakura's life line to himself, and where his own life line had been tied. Bakura knelt, and gently touched the injuries, making Ryou gasp.
"How the hell could he sleep with those....?" Marik gasped. The ropes had rubbed the skin raw in places, and it seeped blood and other fluids from the sticky welts. Bakura swallowed, and got a bowl of fresh water and a cloth, and began to gently bathe the wounds, making Ryou whimper. When he finished, he gently spread the healing slave over them, and wound a bandage tightly around Ryou's waist, and then moved to his hands and arms, replacing the old bloody bandages with fresh ones, after washing the wounds and applying more of creacream. He did all this with such tenderness, that all present were pleasantly surprised. Ryou quietly thanked him when he was done, and Bakura nodded, then smirked slightly when Ryou's stomach growled. Bakura remember than the boy had only had one meal in over twenty four hours.
"I'm going to take him to the galley to get some breakfast." Bakura said to Marik and Yami.
"Before you do, come here and look at this." Yami said, and walked over to the rope on a table. He held up the ends and gave them to Bakura. Bakura blinked, and looked at them.
"So?"
"So, this was one piece of rope, Bakura, but it isn't any longer." Bakura blinked at Yami's words, not following. "How do you think they snapped?" Bakura felt the two ends, and checked the other ends as well.
"They didn't snap. They were cut. A very sharp knife, by the looks of it."
"On purpose?" Marik asked.
"Absolutely." Bakura said. "It's a rope. Who gives a damn?"
"That was your life line." Yami said, grimly, and Bakura froze. He slowly raised his to to Yami and Marik.
"C-could you repeat that?" He gasped.
"That was your life line, Bakura. It WAS secure yesterday. Someone cut it. Intentionally." Bakura's eyes flashed.
"Who?!" He demanded.
"We don't know. That's why we're telling you. Watch your back, Bakura. Someone on this boat wants you dead." Bakura swallowed and nodded, grabbing a knife off of the table and slipping it into his belt. He turned back to Ryou. Thinking to himself the whole time, Bakura helped Ryou dress, and flung a cloak over his shoulder and pulled a hood over his head, before doing the same with himself. Then, they left the cabin and headed out on deck. Ryou stumbled as th ship was tossed in the waves and Bakura put an arm around him, guiding him across the deck, ignoring the stinging rain whipping at his face. The wind howled around them as the sea raged, and the boat was constantly lit up by lightning. Ryou unconcsiously pressed closer to Bakura, who kept him from losing his balance. Slowly, the pair made their way across the deck and down the stairs into the galley.
Most of the crew was there, and all eyes turned to silently stare at the two albino boys. Bakura flung off his cloak and hung it on a peg by the door, and put Ryou's there as well. Slowly, he looked around and spotted a generally empty area at the end of a table in the corner; the corner Yami had concealed himself in the day before when Ryou was thrown on the table and threatened. Bakura led Ryou over to the spot he had chosen and nodded to Mako when he brought two bowls of steaming oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins, somethine the crew delighted in getting when they had stolen the rare spice and the dried fruits. Bakura ate in stony silence, watching Ryou struggle to hold the spoon in his injured hands, but Bakura refused to spoon feed the boy.
Bakura slowly let his hard gaze travel around the room, looking at every single person. One of these people could be the traitor... His gaze flew to Seto, as he stood up and came over, sitting across from him, followed closely by Tris, Otogi, and Jono. They all sat down.
"Any idea?" Otogi whispered, and Bakura blinked.
"Do you know who cut your rope?" Jono clarified. Bakura shook his head. These four men were the most loyal on the whole ship, and he knew for a fact that each and every one of them had risked life and limb on his behalf at one point, and sometimes, they had even shared a bed. He could trust them with his life.
"No." He said, quietly. "I don't know. The only people I have ruled out, are you four, Yami, Marik, and our three little guys." Here, he ruffled Ryou's hair. Then, he froze, and slowly turned to look at Ryou. "Do you know?" He asked. "You saw my rope was cut. You saved me. Did you see who did it?" Ryou looked down at his breakfast.
"N-no.... If I knew who it was, I would have told you right away."
"Do you know who was near the rope?"
"Sure."
"Who?" All five pirates hissed.
"Everyone. It was tied to the mast. The wave came up, and wre are all hanging onto it. Anyone could have done it without being seen." The five pirates all sighed, and looked down. They all looked up again when a figure appeared in the doorway on the side of the galley opposite to the stairs leading to the deck. It was a woman with brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a white blouse, a black bodice, and long bablacblack pants under a red skirt that was slit all the way up the sides. The men all grinned at her, and she gave them a smile and wave, before heading over to Bakura.
"Hey...." She said, sliding onto the table by Ryou, and crossed her legs. "Mai and Ishizu were telling me about the new prisoners, but I haven't met them yet." She said to Bakura, then looked at Ryou with a smile. "Hi, I'm Tea."
The first thought that ran through Ryou's mind was 'Oh, the whore.' But he fixed a slight smile on his face, and answered with, "Pleased to make your acquaintance. I'm Ryou." Tea smiled and blushed.
"Pleased to make your aquaintence, huh?" She said, loudly, attracting everyone's attention, which was the last thing Ryou wanted. "Well, it's about time there was someone on this ship who has manners and doesn't smell bad!" There were irritated shouts from all over the galley. "You dogs who call yourselves men could learn a lot from this charming gentleman here. At least SOME one knows how to treat a lady." Rex snickered.
"Lady? What lady? I don't see a lady...." He said, loudly, forgetting that he was sitting near Mai and Ishizu, who immediately threw their plates at him and hit him in the head. The other men, and Tea laughed. She turned to Ryou, giving him a saucy wink.
"See what I mean?" She said, laughter in her tone. "Pigs. All of them."
"I resent that....." Bakura snarled, in good humor. Tea looked at him. "And don't forget, you're the one who screws those pigs." Tea smirked.
"True. But at least these pigs are men in bed. Of course, they're not gentlemen like you, Bakura." She leaned over, lying on the table, her chest right in front of Ryou's face, to stroke Bakura's cheek. Bakura smirked.
"Fuck off, Tea." The man said with a chuckle. "We all know it's Yami you wanna screw." She frowned.
"Oh, shut up."
"Hey, don't get mad at me. It's not my fault that he prefers me and Marik over you." Tea scowled this time, and got on her hands and knees, facing Bakura straight on.
"One kiss, and he'll drop you two like a bag of worthless junk." She said, her eyes laughing. Ryou in the meantime was staring down, as Tea was nearly dragging her breasts through his oatmeal. He met Otogi's laughing eyes over Tea's back, and he winked.
"Don't worry, this is normal." He said, and Ryou quirked an eyebrow.
"Oh, will he?" Bakura drawled, and grinned. "Prove it." Tea smirked.
"Gladly." She hissed, and seized Bakura by the back of the head, and pulled him to her for a fiery kiss. Both moaned and Ryou stared, eyes bugging out, as Tea proceeded to eat Bakura's face. Then, he saw Bakura raise one hand and give a thumbs up. Jono and Tris stood, and the entire crew turned to watch. The two men then shoved down on Tea's back, and Ryou yelped and leapt back when Tea was shoved to the table top, and her chest into his oatmeal. Tea screamed, and Bakura stood, laughing.
"YOU BASTARDS!!!" Tea shrieked, and Ryou scrambled away, bumping into a tall beefy blonde pirate, who was laughing just as loud as the rest. Tea got up, and stared down at her chest, oatmeal oozing down into her shirt. "EEW! Disgusting!" The blonde behind Ryou laughed.
"I'll help you clean that up, Tea." He called.
"God, Keith...." Otogi said. "You have the most perverted mind I've ever seen. Aside from Marik, that is." That only added more laughter to the room. Ryou's eyes bugged out even more, and he blushed bright red when Tea stripped off her bodice and shirt, right there, not giving a damn the she was now topless in a room full of men. Bakura backed away grinning, as many of the men closed in on her. Ryou's eyes only, if possible, got wider.
"C'mon." Bakura murmured to Ryou. "I'll bet that this is going to lead to a massive orgy." Seto, Tris, Otogi and Jono were getting out as well as Ishizu and Mai.
"I think I'll take my shift now." Jono snickered when Tea began to loudly moan in pleasure.
"MAKO!" Bakura called, and the man looked at him from where he was trying to ignore what was being done in his kitchen. "Can you bring us lunch in our cabin?" Mako smiled, and nodded.
"Sure, Bakura!" He called, and went back to peeling potatoes. Bakura grinned, and re-dressed Ryou in the cloak, and put one on himself. He followed his four friends up to the deck where they tied life lines around themselves, and gave a tug on the life lines of the pirates on duty. They returned, and were informed of the activities below deck, and Seto, Jono, Tris and Otogi went to take over. Bakura gave them a wave, and led Ryou across the deck and back to the cabin. They entered, and Malik and Yugi looked up at them. Marik and Yami paid no mind as they fenced across the cabin.
"Oop!" Bakura said, grabbing Ryou"s shoulders and dragging him out of the way before Marik could back into him. They removed their cloaks and then watched the two pirates' competition. Finally, Yami disarmed Marik, and held him at sword point.
"See?" Yami said, looking at Malik and Yugi. They nodded. "Once you get the hang of it, fencing isn't that hard." He smiled at Bakura and Ryou. "How was breakfast?" Bakura laughed.
"Tea traumatized Ryou." He said, and proceeded to tell what had happened. Yami and Marik both slapped their foreheads.
"Figures." Marik said. Yami shook his head.
"I truly apologize, Ryou." He said. "Malik and Yugi are learning to fence. Would you like to?"
"Thank you, but I already know how." Ryou said. Malik and Yugi stared at him.
"You do?" Yugi asked. Ryou nodded, and Yami smirked.
"You are quite surprising, little one." He said, and tossed Ryou his sword, before relieving Marik of his. Ryou blinked and caught it, then looked at Yami, curiously. "Show me...."
