"Come now, don't you know?" Crystal Seer asked.

The floating crystal balls changed and Alexis could almost make out images in them. They were too far away and were moving too fast for her to see clearly what was going on, but what she could see was clear enough.

"I didn't do it on purpose, you know," she said.

"I know. But you did all the same."

Crystal Seer's hand peeked out from under her robe and one of the crystals floated down into the palm of her hand. "You have little choice. If you do not become more powerful you will not be able to reach the Queen and if you do not reach the Queen you will not be able to return to your own world."

"Before we discuss that, why don't we discuss my fee?" Crystal Seer said.

Alexis gave her a look. She had a feeling she knew where this was going. "I suppose you want to be paid with sex?"

"My usual fee is gold. Though when I deal with the Sanctuary, I am usually paid with the use of one of the many tomes they have here."

"Right, right," Alexis said, getting up. "The fairies want to get rid of me."

"What does that mean?" Alexis asked.

"I'm sure you will found out soon enough."

"Well then," said Alexis, "goodbye, I guess."

"Fare well," said Crystal Seer.

Alexis nodded to the veiled woman and entered the portal.
