Song I don't own is What Hurts the Most as sung by Rascal Flats
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me*
"It's been raining for the past three days."
"It's fall. It rains in the fall."
"Yeah but for three fuckin' days? Non stop. Fuckin' rain."
"Ryou says it rains five to six days out of the week in Britain. He lies a lot though. I think it's Bakura's fault."
"Yeah." A deep sigh came from barely parted lips.
"What...Are you okay? I mean I know it must be hard for you."
"He's been gone for three weeks. I'm over it."
"Still three weeks isn't long when you where together for three years."
"Five years."
"Huh?"
Honda pushed away from the wall he had been leaning against and wandered over to sit at Yugi's desk. He flipped the chair around and straddled it to better see his friend who was sitting on the couch. "We were together for five years. We just didn't tell anyone because, well, because I didn't want to."
Amethyst eyes blinked up at him. "Why not? I mean we're your friends we would have been fine with it. We wouldn't have cared. We would have been happy for you. How'd you keep it a secret for so long?"
"It was easy."
"It would have killed me."
"I know. But Yug' you gotta understand. Tough guys don't fuck other guys. It's not manly. It's not...right."
"That's..." Yugi paused as if considering what he wanted to say or maybe just how he wanted to phrase it. "The dumbest thing I think you've ever said."
A bitter laugh filled the air. "You should talk to Otogi sometime. I've said worse. That's why he left after all. You know Jou may have been the punk but I still had a reputation to maintain and pretty boys with long hair and a dice fetish wasn't part of it. I thought after we got out of high school it'd be easier but I guess some habits just die hard. He never asked much you know. Never asked be to go public with him, never begged me to go to any of his stupid company things hell he never even tried to guilt me into stay the night with him. Maybe he should have."
"Yeah but if he had would you have told him yes or no."
"I would have said no. It's not the manly thing to do remember. It was okay to fuck him as long as no one knew. To go out with him would have meant we were a couple. It's not okay to date another guy. Fucking is just a way to relive stress and hormones. Loving another guy isn't..."
*What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do*
"I did though. Love him. You know, I never told him."
"Because that wouldn't have been manly."
"You got it."
"Maybe you should have."
"Can't live on maybe's."
Yugi half shrugged and tilted his head to the side. Sometimes there wasn't a good retort.
"I would go over in the dead of night to fuck him then I'd go home. I never stayed longer than I had to."
"But you were with him during the day. Every day. We all saw you two together."
"As friends. Hell Yugi even you didn't know. You thought Otogi and I were just buds until I told you different. Besides how much longer do you think he would have been happy with the way things were?"
"He was content with it for five years. That's longer than I would have been by about four years and eleven months."
"You wouldn't have to hide your relationship though. You like girls."
Another half shrug. "I like the human body. I t doesn't matter much if it's a guy or a girl as long as they can get me off."
It was Honda's turn to blink in surprise. Several times. "I'm going to make a list. Little known facts about Yugi Mouto."
"It'd be a very long list. I don't think you have enough paper. Now quit changing the subject."
"What were we talking about again?"
"Why you couldn't tell Otogi you loved him."
"Love. Still do. It's sad isn't it."
"Yep. It'd make a great song."
"So the question is why couldn't I tell him."
"Other than the fact that it's not manly."
"Because I'm not sure he loved me either."
*It’s hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I’m doin’ it
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone
Still Harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken*
"You were together for five years."
"Yep."
"And you're not sure if he loved you."
"He never told me he did."
"You never told him either."
"True. One time we went out, just the two of us. Not a date or anything like that. We were just hanging out having fun. We went to the mall and shopped around, well, he shopped I just kind of tagged along. Then after that we went to one of those cheap hamburger palaces for supper. It was fun."
"That's good."
"No. Because now every time I go out I think of that day. I go out with my friends and all I can think of is what Otogi said or did or how he made me feel when we were together. Jou knows something's up. He's also figured out that it started about the time 'Togi up and moved."
"How does that make you feel?"
"For the first couple of weeks it was all I could do to get out of bed in the morning. If I didn't have my shop I don't think I would have. I mean if I worked for a company like Kaiba Corp or in some other office there would have been nothing to convince me to. But now when he asks me what's going on I freak."
"Why?"
"Because I can't tell him."
"Why not?"
"Because."
"Okay. How's business at the shop?"
"Good. Who's changing the subject now?"
"I am. Because you obviously don't want to talk about why you can't tell your friends things."
"Hey. I told you about Otogi and I didn't I? I told you that we were together."
Yugi nodded and swung his feet up onto the couch. "Yeah. But why?"
"Because...because...I...I needed to talk to someone."
"Why?"
"Ask something different."
"Was it worth it? Did anything make it worth it?"
Honda started to pace. He just needed to move. He finally sank down beside his spiky haired confidant. "Yeah. The look in his eyes when we were together. It was worth it."
*What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do*
"I miss him."
"Good. If you didn't miss him I'd be worried. You spent five years of your life with him."
"Maybe I should get a girlfriend."
"Do you really think that would fix anything?"
"Nope. I can hope though."
"And?"
"Not worth the trouble. I need to...come to terms with what happened between Otogi and I."
"Don't say things just because you think I want to hear them."
"I'm not."
"I think the best thing you could do is talk to him."
"He won't talk to me. I tried. A lot."
"Give him time. Give yourself time. Think about what you want to say. Make sure you aren't going to say something you don't mean."
"I already did that. That's why he's gone."
"All the more reason to not do it again."
"Yeah."
Honda stood stretching so his back would pop. "I gotta go."
"Same time next week?"
"You know it."
Fact number two to add to his Yugi list. Yugi made a great consoler. Weird considering how everyone always figured he'd end up digging in the dirt like his grandfather.
"I'll see you around Honda. If you ever want to hang out as friends I'm game."
"Yeah. I'll call you."
"No you won't."
"Yeah. You're right."
*Not seeing that loving you
That’s what I was trying to do*
As he went to leave Honda hesitated with his hand on the doorknob. "I'm going to keep trying to call him. I need to tell him that I love him."
"Good luck, knowing Otogi you're going to need it."
"Yeah I know."
More dialog and less description than my usual song fics. Try something new and all.
I didn't realize how many people would like Beautiful Disaster. I'm thinking I should follow the wonderful reviewers advice and add another part to it. All in favor say Yay!
Any one else have any pairings or songs they would like to see? Let me know.
