Katenen stood on his balcony, looking down at the moonlit courtyard below. Despite the events of the day, he found himself unable to sleep. Whenever he thought himself close, whenever he thought that Nephtyys had blessed him with slumber, visions of Atem would come unbidden to his mind, causing more than his thoughts to stir and awaken.

Closing his eyes, Katenen pictured Atem from earlier that day, vividly recalling the love and desire that had shone in those eyes and that smile. For a moment, the blonde gave himself up to fantasy, imagining that mouth claiming his in a passionate kiss before sliding sensuously along his jaw to his neck, much like Atem's hand had done earlier that day. He imagined those lips finding purchase on his pulse point, nipping and suckling until Atem had made his mark, telling the world without words that Katenen was his.

The mere ~thought~ of being claimed as such sent a shudder of pleasure racing through Katenen's body, causing the light, loose material of his loin cloth to shift tantalizingly across the tip of the erection that his thoughts had created... almost as if a finger had danced teasingly along his cock head. Swallowing harshly, the blonde forced himself out of his daydream and into the here and now, a cool breeze from the desert night aiding him in returning to reality.

Turning back to his room, Katenen moved to his bed to pick up the light wrap that lie there and don it against the chill, when his eyes caught sight of another robe… the robe that Atem had so lovingly draped over his shoulders earlier that day. Bypassing his own wrap, Katenen picked up the borrowed one. Slowly he brought it up to his face, nuzzling the gauzy material lovingly and moaning as he felt his groin pulse in need upon inhaling Atem's scent. He wanted him… ~Ra~ how he wanted him.

His body aching for something, ~anything~ more, Katenen wrapped himself in the robe, relishing in the warmth that it provided. As the material settled around him, enveloping him in Atem's scent and caressing his body as tenderly as the god-king had caressed his face, Katenen knew. He knew that his feelings ran ~so~ much deeper than want. He ~loved~ Atem… needed him desperately. And he now knew what Herihor had meant when he'd implied that Atem's feelings toward him could be both need ~and~ love.

Katenen had loved Yugi, yes; he had loved him, and their love had been as pure and as passionate as only a first love can be. But this love that he had for Atem, whilst no less as passionate, ran deeper- permeating his body and consuming his very soul. And, whilst the loss of his first true love had left a hole in his heart that, to that day, was not filled, that pain was ~nothing~ compared to the sudden agony he felt at the thought of remaining apart from Atem one night, one ~second~ more.

Unable to deny himself or his love any longer, Katenen left his rooms in an almost-run, pausing outside of Herihor's chambers to inform him of his departure. However, when he quietly opened the door and peered through the crack, the blonde instantly changed his mind, a soft smile forming at the picture that met his eyes. Anhay was reclined in the chaise, her head resting on Herihor's lap whilst the infant Katenat-Ra lay snugly against her breast. The family of three were sleeping and, unwilling to disturb their much-needed peace, Katenen backed out, pulling the door closed behind him. The scene of tender devotion he'd witnessed made him yearn for Atem even more, and soon the blonde's pace was once again nearing a run.

Laughing a little over his eagerness, Katenen forced himself back into a walk. As he rounded the corner, his eyes landed on an exit that led to the courtyard that lay between his chambers and Atem's. Without hesitation, he stepped outside, knowing that cutting across the garden would save him time versus taking the halls, and hoping that the cool night air would calm him enough to permit him to at least ~greet~ Atem before falling upon him like a starving man to a feast.

`Not that I think that he'd mind,' Katenen smirked to himself, feeling his waning erection begin to harden again at the thought.

"Well, well, well…" a voice suddenly spoke to his left, causing the blonde to stop short in surprise. "I came, seeking out the mighty Atem Nisu, and instead I am presented with a veritable gift from the heavens." Abruptly Katenen turned toward the source of the voice, and instantly his color paled as his eyes landed on the unwelcome figure of Minnakht. The forgotten scene from earlier came flooding back to his mind, and the blonde struggled for composure, especially when the Tjehenu began to advance.

"Atem Nisu has retired for the evening," Katenen began, careful to keep his voice polite as he reminded himself that the man, still in all, was a dignitary. "Perhaps, if you'd like, I can arrange for a council in the…" The blonde's words broke off in a gasp as Minnakht moved to his side, grabbing him by the arm and drawing him close.

"What I want cannot wait until morning," the Tjehenu purred, staring lasciviously at the blonde. "And, now that ~you're~ here, Atem's council is no longer needed." Paling even further as he realized what the man was implying, Katenen tried to jerk away, crying out in pain as Minnakht wrenched the blonde's arm behind his back. "No screaming, now," his captor purred dangerously, placing a hand over the blonde's mouth as he dragged him into the sedges. "Not until I have you screaming beneath me, that is." Eyes widened in panic, Katenen began to struggle in earnest, but his efforts only caused the Tjehenu to laugh- especially when Atem's robe slid from around the blonde, revealing the fact that Katenen was clad only in his loincloth. "Atem's interpreter, indeed," the man sneered, tightening his grip on the blonde as the robe fluttered to the ground. "Atem's personal ahbe it would seem is more fitting. No wonder he was loath to part with you when I demanded you from him. But that is fine. It just means that I will not have to waste my time being gentle."

Finally deeming that they were well enough hidden, the Tjehenu roughly pushed Katenen to the ground, instantly straddling the blonde’s body and pinning him beneath him. Keeping one hand clamped firmly over Katenen's mouth, Minnakht brought the other one down to scrabble at the waistband of the blonde's loin cloth, only to draw back and curse in pain as his captive's teeth finally found purchase on his palm. However, before Katenen could take advantage and scream, the damaged hand came fast and hard across his face, splitting his lip, and causing his nose to run with blood. Blinking dazedly, the blonde recovered from the blow, only to feel the cold, smooth sensation of a blade against his neck.

"Make one sound and I'll slit your throat," the Tjehenu hissed, pressing the knife tightly against Katenen for emphasis. "It would not matter to me. Your body would still be warm enough for me to get what I desire." The man chuckled harshly as the blonde's body went limp, a look of frightened defeat settling in Katenen’s eyes. "I knew I was wise to bring this along," he continued, pressing the knife down again as he began to attempt to remove the blonde’s loin cloth once more. "Atem is stubborn, and he seems quite attached to his ahbe. But one way or another, I would have `persuaded' him to see things my way. And it came in handy in disposing of those guards that your so-called king posted outside my door.” The platinum haired man leered down at the blonde. “Now stop resisting, my pet,” he purred. “Would it not better for you to give yourself to me, than to have your King end up dead because of your stubbornness? Do not look so surprised," he chuckled darkly, noticing the expression of shock on Katenen's face. "I have killed before for people much less desirable than you. As a matter of fact, I ~prefer~ my methods over Atem's so called diplomacy." Minnakht paused to smirk in triumph as he finally managed to remove the blonde's last piece of clothing. "That is why your country will soon belong to us. When the ruler is weak, the nation can't help but fall. But enough talk," the Tjehenu concluded, eyeing Katenen hungrily as he pulled up his own linen kilt and loosened his loin cloth enough to permit his rigid length to pop out. "Spread your legs for me, ~my~ beautiful ahbe. Let me show you how it feels to be used by a real man, instead of that weak excuse of a king that is Atem."

"You are wrong," Katenen rasped out despite his captor’s threats, throwing caution to the wind in his desperation to defend his love. "Atem is strong and compassionate, and ten times the man than you will ~ever~ be. He has ~never~ used me; he loves me. And with all of my heart and my soul I return his love, ~despite~ the fact that I am less than worthy to do so." Tawny eyes flared in a final show of defiance. "And I will ~never~ submit to being taken by a muti like you!"

Minnakht's face twisted in rage and, with an infuriated howl, he raised the knife from Katenen's throat and pressed the point to his captive’s chest, just over the blonde's heart. "Well, then," he hissed as he applied enough pressure to draw blood. "If your heart and your soul are all that stand in my way, I can easily remedy the problem. After all, it's your body I desire, and not your love; as I said before, you need not be alive in order to sate me. Does that disgust you, my ahbe?" he purred, laughing coldly as he watched Katenen’s face drain of color. "I can tell that it does, but, no matter; in mere seconds, you won't be alive to care ~what~ I do!" His violet eyes flaring in a combination of rage and lust, Minnakht raised the knife to deal the fatal wound.

Closing his eyes against the blow, Katenen uttered a last prayer to Ra, his one regret being that Atem knew not of his love. Just as the point of the blade again penetrated his skin, the blonde's eyes flew open as he felt himself jerked almost violently to the side. Even so, he was overcome by a searing pain and, gasping for breath as the blood poured out of his body, Katenen' vision began to fade, just barely permitting him to catch a glimpse of crimson before everything fell into blackness.
